One of the core teachings of both Christians and Jews is the Ten Commandments. They appear twice in Torah, once in Exodus chapter 20 and then in Deuteronomy chapter 5. Depending upon how they are numbered the first few are directed towards God and the remainder are laws that regulate basic human interaction.

One of the Commandments forbids being untruthful. One forbids appropriating the property of others. One forbids coveting the property of others and even the spouse of another person.

When coupled with the rule of law, the Commandments that require the respect for private property and that a person be truthful form the basis of the free market. The free market must have one other thing: impartial adjudication of disputes. This in a nutshell is the foundation of capitalism.

Many forces today in our western society advocate that we must move away from the free market to an economy and society where decisions are made and resources allocated according to ideology. This is the trend towards socialism.

Socialism is the belief that society will be better in every way that counts when we use government to force everyone in a society to live at the expense of everyone else. But that is just the starting point. Socialism moves us towards a society where government forces everyone to stop making private decisions about all aspects of private life and look to ideology and the keepers of ideology to make those decisions for them.

In the last century, attempts to impose and to sustain socialism in societies cost over 100 million lives. How many lives has the free market cost in comparison?

-- theBuckWheat

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6034478.post-78891572761105754602017-01-16T23:26:51.624-05:002017-01-16T23:26:51.624-05:00we will not shirk from the need for corrective vio...we will not shirk from the need for corrective violence. the left knows we exist, now we must make them fear us.mattmindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17851399314494164666noreply@blogger.com
