Comeback Kid, Part Deux

Dan Riehl observes that Hillary's "Comeback Kid II" meme may be significantly overblown.

The [local poll] results were there all along, [they] just didn't generate any buzz:
                                                       Obama Hillary
Suffolk/WHDH 01/05 - 01/06 500 LV 35 34
Concord Monitor 01/04 - 01/05 400 LV 34 33
CNN/WMUR/UNH 01/04 - 01/05 359 LV 33 33
Suffolk/WHDH 01/04 - 01/05 500 LV 33 35
Reuters/CSpan/Zogb 01/03 - 01/05 844 LV 30 31
Mason-Dixon 01/02 - 01/04 600 LV 33 31
CNN/WMUR/UNH 12/27 - 12/30 521 LV 30 34

Larwyn predicts the endgame: a "Hillary-Obama ticket, don't laugh, don't shiver."

No one over here is laughing. Because a McCain nomination doesn't stand a chance against either Dem front-runner.

Charlie Foxtrot wonders where the extra votes came from:

In 2004, in a desperate battle to try to unseat the facist Bush war regime, the Dems managed a grand total of 217,401 votes in the pivotal NH primary.

This year, and a much more open, and winnable, race for the Presidency, the Dems have a total of 215,315 votes.  But that is only with 79% of the precincts counted.  If you project this rate out to 100%, that would predict ~272,500 total votes.

So I guess my question is... where did those extra 55,000 votes come from?  I am sure there are a number of factors, from new voters, to the wandering NH independents.   But I also have to wonder how many of those were Hillary supporters who were shipped in to pump up the volume and might have... stuck around to vote?  What are the NH polling place criteria anyways?

OK, I know I am cynical...

Cynical? Or a realist? I seem to remember reports of Illini voters getting bused up to Wisconsin in 2004 in a bid to take the latter state for John Kerry. But Democrats would never resort to vote fraud. Would they?

The Democratic Primary Google Map (above) does show that the closer to Boston one got, the better Hillary's support became.

Go tell Carville, stranger passing by...

Building on Don Surber's 'toast' observation (okay, some would call it "ripping off", but let's not quibble)...

Stick a fork in her, folks. She's done.

Of course, at this point, James "Gollum" Carville is advising Hillary to start playing dirty.

Quick Takes

Clinton boo-boo

Dan Riehl:

You need to appreciate Democrat politics to really understand how significant this could become, even beyond Hillary if she gets the nomination. Video here. It sounds like Obama's camp is going to run with it and it could destroy Hillary in South Carolina...

"Dr. King's dream began to be realized when President Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act," Clinton said. "It took a president to get it done."

...As far as political instincts go, Hillary apparently just doesn't have them. Playing down the role of King in the Civil Rights movement while heading into South Carolina next week is simply dumb...

I forget. Which state was Hillary's "firewall state"?

Friday, January 4, 8PM Cable viewers:

FOXNEWS O'REILLY: 3,019,000
ALL OTHERS: 2,958,000
  CNN COOPER 915,000
  MSNBC OLBOREMANN 845,000
  CNNHN GRACE 699,000
  MSNBC HARDBALL 499,000

People must really love their faux news. Or perhaps the faux news is exactly what viewers have shunned. Ever consider that, Keith Pelosi-Schumer?

Is Norman Hsu out of prison yet?

Karen Tumulty at Time writes that Hillary's cash position is running dangerously low (hat tip: PrairiePundit).

"...by every measure, I hear they are in a real financial crunch," says one prominent fundraiser. "Here's the dilemma: You have a situation where there clearly is a full court press to raise more money, but considering the state of decline of the campaign, there's a real question of whether people are going to want to give. It's more than just raising money; you've got to give people a sense of potential."

...One reason for the new drive to raise cash quickly is the fact that Clinton spent lavishly on what turned out to be a debacle in Iowa. Numbers circulating among fundraisers — but not confirmed by the campaign — suggest that the campaign may have as little as $15 million to $25 million left on hand.

Being Hillary Clinton

Must... be... more... human...      Planted... question... should... help... poll... numbers...

"Hillary, my question is very personal, how do you do it?"

I don't want to see us fall backwards... no...

This is very personal for me... it's not just political...

It's public, what's happening, and we have to reverse it...

And some people think... elections are a game...

Who's up and who's down...

It's about our country... it's about our futures... it's really about all of us together...

It's about change ... change... change... change... change... change... change... ...BZZZTTT!

Also: Did you know that the prescient Anchoress predicted that Hillary would experience a "genuine" moment and cry... days ago? (Hat tip: Powerline)

Your very own 'Ticked-Off Hillary' Gallery

Some vidcaps from the point in last night's debate that everyone's talking about: Hillary showing rage, fear and oh-so-shrill whininess. My life flashed before my eyes and I felt an impending sense of doom. Thankfully it passed after I took some Tums.

Here's a rush transcript. It may not be 100% accurate because I was nauseous during the segment.

Now wait a minute! Wait a minute!!

Making change is not about what you believe!

It's about making change!

Change!

Change!

Change!

I have 35 years of experience changing things! That's why things are the way they are!

What we need is someone who can deliver change! And electing the same people, over and over again, means change in my book.

I been changing like a chameleon for 35 years now! B***ches!

Like I said, it may not be completely accurate.

Line o' the day: Keep your head on a swivel, Nancy Benac

Gateway Pundit wins our oh-so-prestigious Line o' the Day award.

Nancy Benac of the Associated Press may want to sleep over at a friend's house tonight after this pieceon the Clintons...

In a presidential race where the Democratic candidates are competing as agents of change, Hillary Rodham Clinton's most reliable campaign prop is something of a political relic — her husband.

The former president was at her side to help put the best face on her third-place finish Thursday in Iowa, and he was beside her again when dawn broke the next day on the final push to Tuesday's New Hampshire primary... "I was never more proud of Hillary in all the days we've been together and all the days of this campaign than when she gave that speech in Iowa," the ex-president told New Hampshire voters.

No loyal spouse would say any less.

..."Senator Clinton needs to make this campaign about her vision, her plans and her strengths," says Brazile... The candidate's husband, meanwhile, tends to ramble on about himself.

[and] since when did Bill Clinton become a "loyal spouse"?

Apparently, Nancy's never heard the term 'Arkancide' before.

In 1992, the LA Times reported:

[Clinton friend and state medical examiner Dr. Fahmy] Malak's controversial rulings include:

* ...On June 28, 1985, Raymond P. Allbright, 50, of Mountain Home was found in his yard dead of gunshot wounds. Allbright had been arrested the night before on charges of theft. Malak ruled his death a suicide.

But Allbright had been shot five times; all five shots were in the chest. The weapon was a high-powered pistol. "We think," says Maggie Hall, Allbright's ex-wife, "he was murdered..."

* ...On Aug. 23, 1987, Kevin Ives, 17, and Don Henry, 16, were run over by a train near the town of Alexander. They had been lying squarely on the tracks. Malak ruled that they had been smoking marijuana and dozed off and had slept as the onrushing freight train bore down.

But a second autopsy indicated that Henry had been stabbed in the back, that Ives had been struck on the skull and that both boys probably had been placed on the tracks unconscious, maybe already dead.

A grand jury overruled Malak: The boys had been murdered...

Keep your head on a swivel, Nancy.

Today's Dear Hillary...

Dear Hillary, My husband is a very wealthy criminal philanthropist who had to flee the country due to some misunderstandings about certain "illegal" contracts with various foreign governments. I desperately want to see my husband again. What should I do?

Sincerely, Denise

Hillary answers: Dear Denise, If I'm elected President, I pledge to fight injustices like this one, even if it takes issuing a pardon for your husband. My recommendation is a $500,000 contribution to the DNC and a $1 million contribution to my husband's Presidential Library and Disco Lounge. Not that there's any sort of quid pro quo, of course. Because that would be illegal.

Kisses, Hillary

* * *

Dear Hillary, My husband went to prison when he was wrongly convicted of being one of three men who violently assaulted two females. He is an innocent man and was sentenced to 130 years! Now, we think there is new DNA evidence that will prove he was not one of the three men involved in the crime. We don't have any money, but are wondering if you can help?

Sincerely, Theresa

Hillary answers: Sounds like your husband is S.O.L. Tough break, kid!

L.O.L., Hillary

* * *

Dear Hillary, If you become President, I would like to become good friends with you. I have no ulterior motives whatsoever other than promoting a lasting friendship between the citizens of the United States and China. And if our peaceful peoople can get access to sensitive missile technologies along the way, so much the better! As you know, we have access to vast amounts of money and resources. We look forward to building our relationship with you!

Sincerely, General Zhu Chenghu

Hillary answers: Dear General Zhu, so lovely to hear from you! My personal take is that for a friendship to flourish, it requires a commitment by both parties involved. In your case, nothing says commitment like a $1 million check made out to the Democratic National Committee, through whatever appropriate cutouts make that sort of thing legal, of course. As for my commitment to you, look forward to an invitation to the White House after I take office. We can discuss deepening our countries' relationship and those missile thingies.

Cheerio! Hillary

Hillary's pulling out all of the stops in New Hampshire!

Just saw this ad in the Pansuckett (NH) Herald-Gazette Leader Dispatch.

One of Hillary's favorite "Hillraisers" gets three years in prison

Just in time for the New Hampshire primary, Hillary Clinton's key donation bundler -- Norman Hsu -- is in the news again.

A judge on Friday sentenced disgraced political donor Norman Hsu to three years in state prison... Hsu also faces federal fraud charges in New York...

His troubles began dogging Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and other big-name Democrats last summer when news reports revealed he was a fugitive who fled the state before he was sentenced for the 1992 fraud conviction. He turned himself in on Aug. 31 -- then fled again...

It looks like Hillary's adding to her already formidable record book. And just what is it with the Clintons, China and satellites, anyhow?

The 'Anybody-but-Hillary' Poll

Tom Maquire at Just One Minute takes note of the feverish "Anybody but Hillary" activities of sensible Democrats in Iowa.

I have long believed that Hilary could only win if the "Anybody But Hillary" Democrats (who I suspect are a majority of her party) failed to unite around a single alternative... it now appears that both Dennis Kucinich and Bill Richardson are asking their supporters to flock to the Obama banner as a second choice in the arcane Iowa Democratic caucusing procedure. ...If that support materializes, Obama will perform above his latest polls, which are already good.

Well - whether Obama wins by a little or a lot, Hillary will be the Terminator candidate. She can't be bargained with. She can't be reasoned with. She doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And she absolutely will not stop, ever... But that doesn't mean she can't be defeated. It'll just take a while, thereby compounding our angst and her ultimate humiliation...

A recent Rasmusen poll asked Americans to choose between Hillary and various other theoretical candidates. The results?

Hillary vs. Barry Bonds: Hillary wins by 6 points

Hillary vs. Josef Stalin: Hillary wins by 3 points

Hillary vs. Tipper Gore: Hillary loses by 12 points

Hillary vs. Johnny Quest: Hillary loses by 18 points

Hillary vs. Gumby: Hillary loses by 19 points

I hear Gumby is a fiscal conservative and is a very flexible thinker.

THE LAMENTATIONS AND WOE OF MANKIND WILL SOON REACH A BLOODY CRESCENDO!

BOW YOUR HEAD, MORTAL, BOW YOUR HEAD FOR BEELZEBUB!!
"

Hillary, Sinbad and Chelsea on a Secret Mission to Bosnia

Macsmind:

She just can't stop the embellishment of her "non-experience"... Ever since Barack Obama suggested Hillary Clinton's eight years as first lady were a glorified tea party a few days back, she's looked for an opening to strike back... On Saturday night in Dubuque she pounced, arguing she risked her life on White House missions in the 1990s, including a hair-raising flight into Bosnia that ended in a "corkscrew" landing and a sprint off the tarmac to dodge snipers.

"I don't remember anyone offering me tea," she quipped... The dictum around the Oval Office in the '90s, she added, was: "If a place was too dangerous, too poor or too small, send the first lady."

It turns out that Clinton wasn't quite flying solo into harm's way that day. She was, in fact, leading a goodwill entourage that included baggy-pants funnyman Sinbad, singer Sheryl Crow and Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, then 15, according to [her own] account...

Our outstanding cub reporter, Biff Spackle, has done it again. He scrounged up another exclusive photo, this time of Hillary leading the mission into Bosnia.

Sinbad, Sheryl and Chelsea were in the back of the plane and are not visible in this shot.

You know, if Biff keeps up this fantastic work, he may be eligible for a promotion to Senior Cub Reporter.

The Clinton campaign: an appeal to selective nostalgia

Weekend Opinion Journal ('Opening Day'):

...Mr. Obama has begun to challenge Mrs. Clinton on her central claim that her candidacy represents a return to the Age of Pericles, a k a the 1990s. The Clinton candidacy -- everyone knows it is a her-and-his affair -- is at its core an appeal to selective nostalgia. We are supposed to remember the lack of a hot war, not the "holiday from history" as al Qaeda gained strength. We are supposed to recall the late-1990s boom, not that it began only after the GOP took Congress and repudiated many Clinton policies.

And we are supposed to forget entirely about Travelgate, Whitewater, lost billing records, the Rose law firm, the Lippo Group, Johnny Chung, Harold Ickes, miraculous cattle-future winnings and lying under oath. So selective is our memory supposed to be that we are asked to credit Mrs. Clinton as a kind of co-President during her husband's eight years, while her husband blocks public access to his Presidential records that might let us examine her actual contribution...

One also wonders whether the Clinton archivists-cum-reviewers might be purging records that could compromise Ms. Clinton's presidential aspirations.

The mystery: Bill Clinton's role as 'First Husband'

Kyle-Anne Shiver's latest article in the American Thinker deserves an expansive audience. National, actually. Acting as a proxy for interested citizens, she poses a critical question to Hillary Clinton.

Exactly, precisely, specifically... what would define your husband's access and duties in your Presidency?

Bill Clinton is not just any former President... To this day he has the ignominious distinction of being the only sitting President cited for civil contempt by a federal judge, for lying in a deposition. Judge Susan Weber Wright, a former student of Bill Clinton's at the University of Arkansas School of Law, authored the citation... [and Clinton] lost his law license for five years.

...there is [also] the matter of the 177 pardons and commutations Bill Clinton issued as his final act of office, which were not fully investigated at the time... According to then FBI Director, Louis Freeh, no one in the FBI, nor the Attorney General's office, nor the Justice Department was ever even consulted for input before these last-hour pardons were issued...

...The pardon of Marc Rich, an infamous fugitive who had made a fortune dealing illegally with the Iranians, brought a bit of scrutiny and accusations of quid pro quo use of the Presidential pardon... [and] it came to light that Denise Rich, Marc Rich's ex-wife, had given more than $1 million to Democrat causes, and another $450,000 to fund the Clinton Presidential library... The more pressing issue now might be whether the pardoned Marc Rich has resumed dealings with the Iranians, at a time when Iran poses perhaps the gravest danger faced by America...

Then there was the largely ignored pardon of Bill Clinton's own brother, Roger, convicted of possession and dealing cocaine. The act of pardoning a relative would, in itself, seem to substantially weaken the integrity of the Office of the Presidency. But there's quite a bit more to this story...

[In 1984]... both brother Roger and pal [Dan] Lasater were convicted [of] possessing and selling cocaine. [Clinton also pardoned] old pal and co-fleecer of Arkansas taxpayers, Dan Lasater... ...Lasater's chief assistant, Patsy Thomasson... made her way into the Clinton White House. Clinton appointed her to the position of the White House's Director of the Office of Administration, and ironically, put her in charge of its drug testing program...

You must read the entire article. The only nitpick I have is that Hillary's own dealings may be more troubling than her husband's.

How does Hillary draw the line?

Would it be okay for you to break into an empty home because you wanted a nicer place to stay?

Would it be reasonable for you to break into a family's home because they had a spare bedroom and might be looking for a full-time nanny?

Would it be acceptable to crash a party at the Playboy mansion because Hef had plenty of extra food, drink and some really cute females?

Would it be fair to sneak into the local YMCA to work out because you didn't want the hassle of siging up and paying a membership fee?

Would it be justifiable to sneak onto a large corporate campus because they had advertised some jobs in the paper?

Would it be advisable to allow millions of non-citizens to enter the country without sanction, while paying for their health-care and use of public services?

* * *

I'm just wondering how that line gets drawn by folks like Hillary Clinton?
