Lines o' the Day

Democrat Ed Rendell: "Keith Olbermann should be on the Obama payroll... If he’s not, he should be on the Obama payroll."

Time Magazine's Bobby Ghosh: "...every Iraqi who offers me a view on American politics seems to be praying for a McCain victory."

Clinton spokesperson Mo Elleithee: “If the hospital claims it [Hillary's fable regarding an uninsured pregnant woman who died because she did not have $100 for treatment] did not happen that way, we respect that.”

Pennsylvania organizer for the Obama Campaign, Darnell L. Williams: "So you all thought that Nazism were finished after World War II? No, only Hitler was finished, the party which was never outlawed out side Germany, moved on to infiltrate Western governments. They don't use that name any more. They just use other political parties to spread their agenda... President Bush is part of that movement. Below is the candidate for the next four years... [McCain is the] Third Reich candidate."

Hugh Hewitt: "...the MSM is allowing [Obama] to march to Denver without engaging in an extended conversation about what to do with the increasing militancy of Iran (and its proxy Hezbollah). This is one of the greatest failures of American journalism. Imagine the 1940 campaign being conducted without FDR or Wilkie commenting on the war in Europe... Senator Obama: what would you do about the Qods Force?"

The Left's Litany of Lies

You know what's startling? The fact that liberals (er, I mean, progressives) have blithely ignored a tidal wave of lies promoted by their ostensible leaders. And I don't mean routine buffoonery like Hillary's tale of Bosnian snipers disguised as child greeters or her mother's encounter with Sir Edmund Hillary in The Time Tunnel.

Instead, I refer to the Democrats' tectonic lies. Lies so foundational, so interwoven into Democrat lore that they can no more be removed from the party than its symbol -- the ass -- can be replaced with a platypus.

Some of the most outrageous lies marketed by the left include the following:

LIE #1: There is no terrorist threat. There is... No... Terrorist... Threat.... I repeat: There is no terrorist threat. None.

On April 2, 2008, the Department of Homeland Security issued the following statement: "Nuclear terrorism remains a threat." But perhaps the DHS is populated with partisan liars? Oh, wait, a report from the Congressional Research Service, a bipartisan team of scientists and researchers, opens with the following statement:

It would be difficult for terrorists to mount a nuclear attack on a U.S. city, but such an attack is plausible and would have catastrophic consequences, in one scenario killing over a half-million people and causing damage of over $1 trillion...

In combating nuclear terrorism, the standard for success for the United States is daunting — zero nuclear detonations, which may require stopping every terrorist or rogue state attempt to acquire and deliver a nuclear weapon — while a single nuclear detonation in the United States would constitute a terrorist success... ...studies have shown many potential weaknesses in U.S. ability to thwart nuclear terrorism.

Furthermore, there have been numerous documented attempts at nuclear terrorism in the past. And more appear to be on the way, with the Atlantic's William Langewiesche stating "the spread of atomic weapons can't be stopped."

The assertion that "there is no terrorist threat" is as baldfaced a lie as has ever been marketed to the American people even disregarding the stunning national security ramifications.

LIE #2: Iraq is a distraction from the War on Terror. This fabrication, unceasingly marketed across the entire swath of spectrum controlled by the mainstream and leftist new media, is as patently false as the assertion that Michael Moore is a celebrity endorser for Subway.

The website Hussein and Terror (authored by Deroy Murdock) is an excellent starting point for understanding Iraq's role as the central clearinghouse of terror. Abu Abbas, Abu Nidal, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Ansar al-Islam and Salman Pak are central to that level of understanding; those who can't define these terms believe this lie and those who know the terms comprehend why this is such an egregious lie.

Other facets to consider include A.Q. Kahn's offer of nuclear weapon design to Iraq and Kenneth Timmerman's analysis of recently released Pentagon documents:

“Despite their incompatible long-term goals, many terrorist movements and Saddam found a common enemy in the United States,” the report’s authors at the Institute for Defense Analysis (IDA) state... ...a Jan. 18, 1993 order from Saddam Hussein, transmitted to the head of Iraqi intelligence, “to hunt the Americans that are in Arab lands, especially in Somalia, by using Arab elements or Asian (Muslims) or friends.” ...In response, the head of the Iraqi Intelligence Service informed Hussein that Iraq already had ties with a large number of international terrorist groups, including “the Islamist Arab elements that were fighting in Afghanistan and [currently] have no place to base and are physically present in Somalia, Sudan, and Egypt.” In other words, al-Qaida.

Put simply, Hussein's Iraq was linked to a myriad of terrorist groups including Al Qaeda and its affiliates. Putting Hussein down was a blessing not only for the Iraqi people but also for the citizens of the West who would have suffered as victims of terror attacks sponsored by Saddam.

LIE #3: The Ripple Effect: not so much a single lie as an entire genus of lies in which falsehoods spread from left-wing anthills to the mainstream media.

A perfect example is represented by a recent (March, 2008) incident involving CNN's Glenn Beck. In an interview with pastor John Hagee, Beck noted that certain crackpots had emailed him with rumors that Barack Obama was the "Anti-Christ."

Within hours, the odious (and failing) Media Matters website posted an "alert" that claimed Beck had seriously considered that Obama is the Anti-Christ. As you might expect, this alert was effectively read right off a teleprompter by an unhinged crackpot (and MSNBC "journalist") named Keith Olbermann. At which point, the New York Times picked up the story.

The whispering campaigns allege that Mr. Obama is a secret Muslim planning to impose Islamic law on the country. Incredibly, he is even accused — in earnest! — of being the Antichrist... Glenn Beck of CNN asked the Rev. John Hagee, a conservative evangelical, what the odds are that Mr. Obama is the Antichrist.

In other words, the Ripple Effect -- a series of increasingly shrill falsehoods -- spread from an inconsequential progagandist website to the New York Times (but I repeat myself).

On CNN, Beck predicted the outcry before it even occurred and also described a series of similar events that can all be categorized as outright lies.

LIE #4: the assertions of Obama's church - I need not rehash the all of the lies of Pastor Wright and his friend Louis Farrakhan.

The highlights: the U.S. government invented HIV as a means of genocide against people of color; that racist Louis ("The Jews helped Hitler get the Third Reich on the road") Farrakhan "epitomizes greatness"; and reprinting (in a church newsletter, no less) the lies of a murderous posse of terrorist thugs known as Hamas.

The church, now under greater scrutiny due to Obama's 20-year relationship with it, has done its best to airbrush its website, removing damaging newsletters and statements. Furthermore, references to Wright on Obama's website have been purged.

Both are moves reminiscent of the "bad old days of the Soviet Union."

Why do progressives buy into this tripe? Well, for one, they're Democrats.

And I'm just getting started. More leftist lies are on the way.

The midnight ride of Paulette Revere

Tom Elia, writing at the New Editor:

Senator Clinton says she feels like Paul Revere. Make that Paulette Revere.

"Senator Obama has been very timid and very unenthusiastic with doing anything with the economy," Clinton, D-N.Y., said at a tarmac press conference in Burbank, California on Thursday, "I feel like Paulette Revere -- the recession is coming, the recession is coming!"

Is Paul Revere really the proper reference?

Chicken Little or The Girl Who Cried Wolf might be more appropriate.

Or just plain, old "loser."

Obama hands out concert tickets to deter Clinton turnout

A more jaded person might call it buying votes.

As former President Bill Clinton was extolling his wife's credentials, Obama's campaign office in Bloomington began giving away tickets to Sunday's Dave Matthews concert at Assembly Hall.

..."I was leaning toward Obama, but this sealed the deal for sure," [one student] said. "The Obama campaign announced this right as (Bill Clinton) was about to speak, and it brought everyone from over there to over here."

Methinks Obama's campaign staff learned their tactics from the masters.

Hillary's Marauders

Don Surber calls her "Gomer Clinton, USMC." That would be our beloved Mizz Hillary. Hubby Bill claims she attempted to join the Army while fresh out of law school but was turned down due to bad eyesight.

In fact, Don also wins our prestigious line' o the day award:

[Yeah], the Army was real picky in 1973, turning down Yale-educated lawyers like that in favor of the GED crowd like me...

Methinks Bill inhaled. A lot. And often.

Really: is there anything the Clintons wouldn't say or do to regain power, no matter how outlandish?

As an aside, Junior Cub Reporter (Level II) Biff Spackle located this photograph, a scoop that could easily result in his promotion to a Full Cub Reporter (Level I) and its concomitant $0.18/hr. raise.

Bill Clinton's tirade stuns California superdelegates

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that last weekend's private meeting between Bill Clinton and California's superdelegates turned fiery. When asked about Bill Richardson's endorsement of Barack Obama, a "red-faced" Clinton exploded.

"It was one of the worst political meetings I have ever attended," one superdelegate said.

According to those at the meeting, Clinton - who flew in from Chicago with bags under his eyes - was classic old Bill at first, charming and making small talk with the 15 or so delegates who gathered in a room behind the convention stage.

But as the group moved together for the perfunctory photo, Rachel Binah, a former Richardson delegate who now supports Hillary Clinton, told Bill how "sorry" she was to have heard former Clinton campaign manager James Carville call Richardson a "Judas" for backing Obama.

It was as if someone pulled the pin from a grenade.

"Five times to my face (Richardson) said that he would never do that," a red-faced, finger-pointing Clinton erupted.

The former president then went on a tirade that ran from the media's unfair treatment of Hillary to questions about the fairness of the votes in state caucuses that voted for Obama...

Is it just me, or is the entire Clinton campaign imploding before our very eyes?

Enter your first-round winners in the comments!

Ask not for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee, Hillary.

A new book on Hillary Clinton's first years after graduating law school may signal the end of her final campaign for public office.

Jerry Zeifman, a former counsel to the House Judiciary Committee for 17 years, takes you to a behind the scenes account of Hillary Clinton, in a book based on his personal experiences in dealing with her. In 1974, he had supervisory authority of a staff that included Hillary Rodham – who was then engaged in a variety of self-serving unethical practices in violation of House rules. In 1998, as consultant to a member of the Judiciary Committee that impeached President Clinton, he gained extensive personal insights into the unethical practices of Hillary Clinton in her White House “West Wing” office.

A lifelong Democrat, Jerry Zeifman has concluded that Hillary Clinton is ethically unfit to be either a Senator or President – and if she were to become President, the last vestiges of the traditional moral authority of the party of Roosevelt, Truman and Johnson will be destroyed.

Why is Zeifman so dead-set against Hillary?

At that time Hillary Rodham was 27 years old. She had obtained a position on our committee staff through the political patronage of her former Yale law school professor Burke Marshall and Senator Ted Kennedy. Eventually, because of a number of her unethical practices I decided that I could not recommend her for any subsequent position of public or private trust.

Dan Calabrese of North Star Writers Group provides an excellent summary.

...Zeifman fired Hillary from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation – one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman’s 17-year career.

Why?

Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said in an interview last week. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”

Aside from that, she was completely above-board.

Calabrese goes on to list a series of extremely disturbing practices initiated by Ms. Rodham, culminating in a startling turn of events. Hillary argued that the accused Watergate conspirators had no right to counsel.

The Judiciary Committee allowed [Justice William O.] Douglas to keep counsel, thus establishing the precedent. Zeifman says he told Hillary that all the documents establishing this fact were in the Judiciary Committee’s public files. So what did Hillary do?

“Hillary then removed all the Douglas files to the offices where she was located, which at that time was secured and inaccessible to the public,” Zeifman said. Hillary then proceeded to write a legal brief arguing there was no precedent for the right to representation by counsel during an impeachment proceeding – as if the Douglas case had never occurred.

The brief was so fraudulent and ridiculous, Zeifman believes Hillary would have been disbarred if she had submitted it to a judge.

So it would appear Hillary's pattern of ethical and behavioral lapses aren't exactly a recent phenomenon.

MorOn.org goes to war with Hillary

Our favorite Soros-funded posse of latte-sipping Communists -- MorOn.org -- has launched a major public relations strike against the Clinton Machine. Its most recent message to members pleads for an end to the Cattle Future Queen's campaign.

A few weeks ago, Speaker Pelosi told ABC News, "If the votes of the superdelegates overturn what happened in the elections, it would be harmful to the Democratic Party."

She's right, but Clinton's top fundraisers want her to back off. According to the New York Times, their letter "carries an ominous tone, which stops just short of delivering a threat. The donors remind Ms. Pelosi that they are 'strong supporters' of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee." Their language was careful, but their implied threat was universally understood. (Roll Call carried this headline: "Clinton donors threaten Pelosi and DCCC.")

They're the old guard, and this is how the Democratic Party used to function—the big donors called the shots...

Won't you please help? Go to MorOn.org's website and enter snide messages in their contact form.

And pass the popcorn as the civil war unfolds.

Line o' the Day: Bush... misspoke?

Ken Howell at 24hourcampfire:

"Bush lied."

"Bush lied."

"Bush lied."

"Bush lied."

"Bush lied."

"Bush lied."

"Bush lied."

"Bush lied."

Hillary "misspoke."

Hero of Bosnia

This collector's item poster offers conclusive proof that Hillary Clinton heroically braved incoming fire after she deplaned in 1996. So take that, you right-wing neocons!

Line o' the day: Dowd boils the Dem race to one sentence

Maureen Dowd (via News Buckit):

It is a tribute to Hillary Clinton that even though, rationally, political soothsayers think she can no longer win, irrationally, they wonder how she will pull it off.

Who's better at innovating: government or the free-market?

Charles Johnson alerts us to an ominous new threat to Google's dominant search engine:

The European Union is putting up $152 million to fund a search engine that will compete with Google.

Who was that snickering in the back of the room?

Government-funded innovation in action at the BMV

OK, maybe it was me. I can’t help it. I’m picturing an EU-approved search engine, and I can’t stop giggling.

EUgle! Bwa ha ha!

Big government spending bucket-loads of taxpayer money on innovation?

What springs to mind are the Democrats' rocket-scientist plans to fund clean energy technology (at taxpayer expense, of course). Hillary, for example, plans to spend $50 billion on a "Strategic Energy Fund" and a few more billion on "basic energy research."

No piker himself, Barack Obama plans to spend $150 billion on "clean energy", another $50 billion in clean venture funds, and an unknown amount to "Double Energy Research and Development Funding."

Funny. With $4 a gallon gas on the way, I thought there were plenty of free-market incentives to explore green technologies.

Like the Lexus Hybrid 400h. Or the BMW Hydrogen engine. Or the Saab Biopower engine. Or Volvo's flexifuel engine. Or Toyota's hybrids. Or VW's Passat powered by natural gas. Or Honda's Civic GX, also powered by natural gas.

But I suppose Obama and Clinton have the right idea. If given enough money, big government can out-innovate the free-market.

Can't it?
