Today's headlines from a border that's as "secure as it's ever been"

Mexican Military Crosses into US Side of Bridge

The Progreso International Bridge was closed down for a short time following an incident with the Mexican military. The Mexican military were allegedly chasing a speeding driver of Dodge Nitro truck. The driver crossed from the U.S. into Mexico. At the Mexican checkpoint, the driver turned around and fled back to the U.S. The Mexican military followed and crossed the international boundary on the bridge... As a result, the Progreso International Bridge was temporarily shut down on both sides.

Border Patrol Agents Receive Fire from Mexico

Gunmen from Mexico open fire on border patrol agents in the Valley... It happened this afternoon in in the town of Fronton, near Roma. Officials say men armed with guns across the border in Mexico fired several shots at officers who were in patrolling in the Valley. Authorities say no one was injured...

Mexico demands U.S. stop deporting illegal immigrant felons

A coalition of mayors from Mexico is blaming the U.S. for the exploding violence on the border, arguing (with a straight face) that if we would just stop deporting dangerous felons back to border cities in Mexico, much of the violence would go away...

Brownsville PD: Targets specific in spillover violence

Brownsville residents have "nothing to fear" from the spillover of drug war violence from Mexico, authorities said... "The people that go about their business and lead a regular life really have nothing to fear from this," Brownsville Police Chief Carlos Garcia said. "If you are not involved in illegal trade or organized crime, this won’t affect you..."

Comforting.

White House continues push for immigration reform

A White House official on Tuesday continued the administration's push for comprehensive immigration reform, indicating that a debate over the emotional issue may be underway sooner rather than later... Speaking at a think tank event in Washington, White House Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy Melody Barnes noted that Bob Menendez, a Democratic senator from New Jersey, said he planned to introduce a comprehensive immigration reform bill in the near future...

Remember, folks, there's nothing to worry about.

If you're not involved in the drug-trade, or jet-skiing in the wrong place, or simply wandering into the line of fire, you're as safe as safe can be.

We know this because Janet Napolitano, DHS Secretary, told us that the border is "as secure as it has ever been."

Killing the Texas Boaters Americans Won't Kill

Rio Grande Valley's KRGV television reports that another American was killed on Falcon Lake by an 'undocumented worker'.*

The frantic 911 call a wife made after her husband was shot by Mexican pirates has been released. It's a first hand account of those terrifying moments on the water as David and Tiffany Hartley came under attack. In the end only Tiffany would survive.

Dispatcher: Hello? Ma'am? Yes. Okay. Are you sure that your husband got shot?

Tiffany: Yes. In his head.

Dispatcher: Okay. Yeah. Was he thrown out of the jet ski that he's in the water or something?

Tiffany: He was thrown off the jet ski and I couldn't pick him up to get him on mine. (sobbing) Oh God.

Dispatcher: Ma'am? Were you shot at on the Mexican side or on the US side? So it was the Mexican Side. Okay, did you see anybody?

Tiffany: There were three boats.

Tiffany Hartley told deputies she and her husband David were jet skiing near the town of old Guerrrero. Hartley told investigators her husband was shot in the head and killed. She says she was forced to leave his body behind as the gunmen fired more bullets at her... Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez Jr. thinks those boats were pirates working for the drug cartel. He's been warning residents for months to stay off the water. The pirates are patrolling the Mexican side of the lake and robbing boaters at gun point. Gonzalez wants authorities in Mexico to search for David Hartley's body, however he thinks it may already be too late.

...Hartley did tell authorities after the shooting she got help from a man on shore... The good Samaritan wants to remain anonymous because he fears for his life...

"Three boats approached them, waving guns talking in Spanish," he said. "They got scared, spooked then they heard the gunshots going on. She could see they were hitting the water and the water was coming up at them...all of a sudden she sees her husband flying off."

Tiffany told him she turned around to go take care of her husband but two pirates went after her jetski. One pirate held a gun to her head. Once he left she tried to pull her husband body onto her jetski but she didn't have the strength.

...CHANNEL 5 NEWS has been tracking at least five violent incidents on the lake over the past 5 months.

-April 30th: Four heavily armed men boarded two boats near the Old Guerrero area demanding money.
-May 6th: Two armed men approached a boat near marker 14 and demanded cash.
-May 16th: Five armed men boarded a boat on the United States side of the lake near marker 7.
-Aug 31st: Falcon lake pirates, using a small boat marked "Game Wardin" tried to stop a Texas fisherman.

Then of course the worst violence incident to date happened on Thursday September 30th when David Hartley was murdered. Authorities say the robbers are believed to be members of a drug trafficking organization. They're heavily armed using AK-47s or AR-15 rifles to threaten their victims.

Rather than sealing the border and shutting down Mexican drug cartels operating with impunity in the southwest, the White House is instead suing Arizona and its law enforcement arms to prevent it from protecting American citizens.

Remember this outrage when you enter the voting booth in November.

Land's sakes, that Harry Reid's doing a mahvelous job: unemployment ticks up again in Nevada--this time to a record high of 14.4%

Perhaps Opening the Borders and Raising Taxes Will Help

Oh, wait. The Democrats are already doing that.

27 states experienced higher unemployment in August, double the number of states that saw increases the prior month. Topping the list, thanks to Harry Reid's masterful work, is Nevada.

The national unemployment rate may have only ticked up slightly in August, but on a state-by-state basis, the jobs picture continues to look a lot more grim in places like Nevada, Michigan and California... While the rate remained at 9.6% for the country as a whole, Nevada, Michigan and California have consistently racked up rates above 12%.

Nevada had the worst rate for the fourth month in a row, at a record high of 14.4%, up from 14.3% in July. Michigan followed with 13.1% unemployment, unchanged from the prior rate, and California was third with a 12.4% rate, an increase from 12.3% in July.

You happy with the economy, Nevadans?

If not, you better take action.

Because Harry Reid's about to unleash his union-fueled war chest on Sharron Angle. If you can spare a few bucks, help her fight back. You don't have to storm the beaches like our grandpappies did. You just have to help out any way you can.

Pond Scum lobby worried that Harry Reid is giving it a bad name

Look up 'pond scum' in the dictionary and you may see the man who is attempting to tie amnesty for illegal aliens to a defense appropriations bill.

That's right: while we have men and women on the battlefield, a Democrat is once again playing politics with bullets, body armor and MREs.

This Democrat is trying to attach stealth amnesty -- that will encourage illegal immigration -- to a defense appropriations bill.

This Democrat is, for lack of a better term, pond scum.

[Senate Majority Leader Harry] Reid has announced he’ll attach a DREAM Act amendment to the defense appropriations bill:

This work period, the Senate will consider the Defense Authorization bill. Along with critical support for our national security forces around the world, this legislation will address two other important issues that are long overdue.

Passage of this bill would overturn the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ rule for our armed forces. We will finally send a loud and clear message that everyone who steps up to serve our country should and will be welcomed regardless of sexual orientation.

We are also offering an amendment to pass the DREAM Act. This amendment will ensure that millions of children who grow up as Americans will be able to get the education they need to contribute to our economy. Students who come to America before age 16 and who have been here for five years should be able get their green card...

What is "The DREAM Act"? You'll love this:

S. 2075, the DREAM Act of 2005: Need a reward for sneaking into the country and then evading the police for five years? Well, how does amnesty and in-state tuition sound?

If my kids sneak out of the country and then back in, can they get the in-state tuition deal?

S. 2075 would grant in-state tuition and amnesty to illegal aliens under the age of 21 who had been physically present in the country for five years and are in 7th grade or above. Such a reward for illegal immigration serves as an incentive for more illegal immigration.

At what point can we stop questioning the Democrat leadership's patriotism and simply declare them enemies of the state?

Or is that too 'right wing'?

'Secure as it's ever been': Gun Battles--in Arizona--Now Breaking Out Between Mexican Drug Smugglers and Federal Agents

Gee, this Democrat border security strategy is really working out well. Nogales International confirms the impeccable law enforcement credentials of the Obama Democrats.

Border Patrol agents returned fire after being shot at by unidentified assailants west of Nogales last Sunday, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The Border Patrol notified the Sheriff’s Office of the exchange of fire shortly before 6 p.m. on Sept. 5 and deputies responded to Bellota Canyon, northeast of Peña Blanca Lake and 5 1/4 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Raoul Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said agents were patrolling the canyon on foot when three or four armed individuals began shooting at them.

“Luckily the agents were not injured and were able to return fire,” Rodriguez said.

Border Patrol saturated the area with aerial recon and also deployed its special response team, while sheriff’s deputies also searched for the shooters.

ICE: We've Caught-and-Released More Than 500,000 Illegal Aliens Who Are Now Fugitives--More Than Entire Population of Sacramento

There is something quite wrong with an administration that actively encourages illegal immigration while repeatedly suing a state that is trying to enforce immigration law.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) says that as of Sunday, Sept. 5, it had caught-and-released 506,232 illegal aliens who are now fugtives. That is more than the population of Sacramento, California, which currently numbers 486,189.

Fugitive illegal aliens are individuals who were apprehended ICE for being in the United States illegally and then were released ahead of their court proceedings and deemed fugitive when they failed to appear in court.

...In an earlier story on the number of fugitives that are in the United States illegally from countries other than Mexico, CNSNews.com asked ICE spokeswoman Gillian Brigham to define what DHS considers a fugitive... Brigham said a “fugitive” is defined as an individual who has been found legally deportable and has evaded authorities.

“A fugitive is an individual who has a final order of removal and has absconded,” Brigham said.

In other comforting news, the White House appears to be devoting more energy to catching carp at the border than criminals.

With 100% of the felon and deceased voting blocs in hand, SEIU wants amnesty for illegal aliens to add 8 million new Democrats to the rolls

A Labor Day reminder from NewsBusters: earlier this year, an SEIU executive stated that amnesty for illegal immigrants would 8 million new Democrat voters to the base.

If there are some old time, traditional JFK Democrats out there, they must be feeling a little overwhelmed. They are joined by the Democrat Socialists of America, ACORN, the SEIU, La Raza, CPUSA (Communist Party USA), the New Black Panthers, and various front groups funded by one-world globalists like George Soros.

There are no moderate Democrats any more. The party has ceased operating as a legitimate and lawful entity, because virtually every segment of its constituency is devoted, using one means or another, to the eradication of the United States Constitution.

And I dare anyone to challenge me on that.

Laser-focused on jobs, Obama 'Justice' Department files another Arizona lawsuit to intimidate employers into hiring more illegal immigrants

This should help the unemployment rate

The Washington Post reports that the Obama Justice Department has filed yet another lawsuit in Arizona. This one is intended to intimidate employers into more permissive hiring practices, which will translate into more jobs for illegal aliens. And therefore more undocumented Democrats.

The Justice Department filed another lawsuit against immigration practices by Arizona authorities, saying Monday that a network of community colleges acted illegally in requiring noncitizens to provide their green cards before they could be hired for jobs...

In Monday's lawsuit, Justice officials said the colleges discriminated against nearly 250 noncitizen job applicants by mandating that they fill out more documents than required by law to prove their eligibility to work. That violated the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, the department said... The government is asking a judge within the Justice Department unit to order the Maricopa colleges to pay a civil penalty of $1,100 for each of the 247 non-U.S.-citizen job applicants it says were required to produce the additional documents. It says the colleges ended the practice in January.

A quarter of a million dollar fine will definitely have employers thinking twice about checking job candidates' bonafides. And that is the intent.

And it's but one step among many.

Humiliating: The Obama State Department reported Arizona's new immigration law to the United Nations' Human Rights Council for its review. A bigger cast of despots, tyrants and torturers you'd be hard-pressed to assemble anywhere. The UN 'Human Rights' Council includes China, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Russia, Cuba, Pakistan, Tunisia and Egypt. The State Department is asking the council to review possible human rights violations by Arizona.

Demeaning: The Obama 'Justice' Department has also announced its intent to investigate Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Arizona's popular law enforcement official. His 'crime'? Pursuing illegal immigrants.

Destructive: In the midst of a civil war in Mexico, with at least 28,000 fatalities, President Obama decided to declare war -- on Arizona. Its lawsuit against the beleaguered state was preceded by a series of affronts.

The president has stiffed Gov. Jan Brewer's call for meaningful assistance in efforts to secure the border. And the White House has accused Arizona's junior senator, Republican Jon Kyl, of lying about an Oval Office discussion with the president over comprehensive immigration reform... [and] Brewer was appalled to learn the Justice Department's intentions not from the Justice Department but from an interview done by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with an Ecuadorian TV outlet.

This administration -- and its 'Justice' Department -- is completely out of control. It is acting without restraint and in clear violation of federal law. Its one goal is not protecting American citizens--it is to create as many Democrat voters for the midterm elections as possible.

America, it's November or never. And that's no joke.

Car Bombs -- With Texas License Plates -- Detonating in Mexico; White House Reaction? More Open Borders!

Runner-up headline: How's that Obama-Holder open borders strategy working out?

Stratfor Research reports that improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are becoming commonplace in Mexico (subscription required). Interestingly, CNN International also reported this story a few moments ago, but its mother network (CNN USA) is thus far mum.

At least two car bombs exploded Friday near the television studios of Televisa in Ciudad Victoria, the capital of Tamaulipas state in northeastern Mexico, authorities said...

...The car that exploded in front of the television studio was a red Chevrolet Corsica with Texas license plates, the attorney general's office said in a news release. The car in front of the transit office was a white Mazda, also with Texas license plates...

Tamaulipas is the state where authorities discovered 72 bodies this week on a ranch believed to be used by narcotraffickers. Authorities are investigating whether the 58 men and 14 women, who were migrants from Central and South America, were killed by the Zetas cartel.

Car bombings are a relatively new phenomena in Mexico.

But, as Big Peace's Frank Gaffney reports, these kinds of attacks shouldn't come as a surprise.

...Mexican authorities arrested a senior operative of the Lebanese terrorist group, Hezbollah, named Jameel Nasr... [Mexico] "foil[ed] an attempt by Hezbollah to establish a network in South America."

...Iran’s most dangerous terrorist proxy, Hezbollah, is operating with impunity in Latin America. The capture of Nasr comes as the President tells Senator Jon Kyl that the border must remain insecure until he gets a deal from congressional opponents of an amnesty for the many millions of illegal aliens already in this country.

The Nasr arrest also was revealed at the very moment the Department of Justice announced that the federal government was going to sue to prevent Arizona from enforcing federal laws on immigration.

Of course, this makes President Obama's open-borders policy all the more... eh... exciting.

But we already knew that, didn't we?

E-Z to follow instructions: get out of any traffic violation without a ticket, points on your driver's license, or other legal hassles

Stopped for a traffic violation and don't want to get hit with an expensive ticket? Just follow these simple instructions:

1. When the police officer asks for your driver's license and registration, state: "No habla ingles."

2. As the police officer figures out how to react, recite the following sentence (preferably using a exaggerated accent): "I am an illegal alien to the United States."

3. Before the police officer can react to your second statement, close the deal with: "You are not allowed to ask for my papers. Eric Holder said so."

4. After the police officer shrugs, closes his traffic investigation pad and sends you on your way, put the car in D (not R, heh) and slowly drive away from the scene. Try not to unleash an evil cackle.

Note: If you are hassled at all, contact La Raza or some other separatist front group for the government of Mexico and figure out how to sue the city, town or county in question.

After all, according to the Obama administration and the Holder DOJ, no one has a right to ask you for your papers. And anyone who does so must be profiling.

By the way: if I were better at making money, I'd turn this into a 30-minute infomercial and charge four installments of $19.95 for all of this valuable information.

So It Begins: DHS implements 'Backdoor Amnesty' and other startling immigration stories our beloved legacy media forgot to report

At the intersection of incompetence and ideology lies a crossroads called Legacy Media.

Feds moving to dismiss some deportation cases

Critics assail the plan as a bid to create a kind of backdoor 'amnesty'

The Department of Homeland Security is systematically reviewing thousands of pending immigration cases and moving to dismiss those filed against suspected illegal immigrants who have no serious criminal records... Critics assailed the plan as another sign that the Obama administration is trying to create a kind of backdoor "amnesty" program...

"They've made clear that they have no interest in enforcing immigration laws against people who are not convicted criminals," said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, which advocates for strict controls.

"This situation is just another side effect of President Obama's failure to deliver on his campaign promise to make immigration reform a priority in his first year," said U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas. "Until he does, state and local authorities are left with no choice but to pick up the slack for prosecuting and detaining criminal aliens."

...Tre Rebsock, the ICE union representative in Houston, said even if the efforts involve only a fraction of the pending immigration cases, "that's going to make our officers feel even more powerless to enforce the laws."

Myrick: 'Homegrown' terrorists are working within U.S.

Republican U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick warned a Huntersville audience Tuesday about the dangers of "homegrown terrorism" and new Iranian inroads into the Americas... [it was] when she was asked, "What keeps Sue Myrick up at night?" that her voice rose... "I'm extremely concerned about Iran and the situation in the Middle East," she said. "People don't want to face the fact that we have terrorist organizations operating in this hemisphere and this country."

Myrick, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said she's disturbed by reported activities in this hemisphere by the Lebanese-based Islamic group Hezbollah, seen by many as an Iranian proxy... Myrick repeated what she wrote in a June 23 letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano: that Hezbollah has increased its cooperation with Central American drug cartels and poses a threat to security on the southern U.S. border.

Myrick said she worries about Iranians learning Spanish and slipping through the border.

But Homeland Security spokeswoman Amy Kudwa said Tuesday that, "At this time, DHS does not have any credible information on terrorist groups operating along the Southwest Border."

Myrick also expressed her frustration with the case of Samir Khan. He was the former Central Piedmont Community College student who ran a radical blog from his parents' Charlotte home... Intelligence sources said last month that they believe Khan is the top editor of "Inspire," an online magazine designed as a recruiting tool for the group al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula... The first issue contained elaborate graphics and articles titled, "What to Expect in Jihad" and "Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom.

Mexican Military Finds 72 Bodies Near U.S. Border

Mexican marines found the dumped bodies of 72 people at a rural location in northern Mexico following a shootout with suspected drug cartel gunmen that left one marine and three suspects dead, the Navy reported late Tuesday.

The cadavers of 58 men and 14 women were found at a spot near the Gulf coast south of the border city of Matamoros. It appears to be the largest drug-cartel body dumping ground found in Mexico since President Felipe Calderon launched an offensive against drug trafficking in late 2006...

...The area has been wracked by bloody turf battles between the Gulf drug cartel and their one-time allies, the Zetas drug gang.

In May, authorities discovered 55 bodies in an abandoned mine near Taxco, a colonial-era city south of Mexico City that is popular with international tourists... In July, investigators found 51 corpses in two days of digging in a field near a trash dump outside the northern city of Monterrey. Many of those found were believed to have been rival traffickers. But cartels often dispose of the bodies of kidnap victims in such dumping grounds.

More than 28,000 people have been killed in violence tied to Mexico's drug war since the offensive began.

Perhaps one day, we'll open up our local newspaper to see all of these stories reported fully and accurately.

But, then, I'm a dreamer.

Delightful: DHS Now Looking to Spy On Its Own Employees

Amazing. Janet Napolitano's Department of Homeland Security doesn't want to keep tabs on illegal aliens, but does want to secretly monitor its own employees. Jacob Goodwin at Government Security News spotted an intriguing and bizarre RFP (Request for Proposal) from DHS this week.

Why would the Federal Protective Service want to spy on itself?

A recent solicitation issued by the Federal Protective Service unit of DHS for what it calls a 'Video Surveillance Rapid Deployment Kit' contained an intriguing requirement among its roster of technical specifications: 'Hidden internal camera and microphone that will allow a remote user to see and hear the operator of the system.'

That sounds as if a boss back at [DHS] wants to be able to watch and listen to the person actually carrying the video camera, without that camera person even knowing that he or she is being watched.

Strange.

...[After we asked, here's] what Michael Keegan, chief of public affairs for the Federal Protective Service, told GSN on August 17... “Due to operational security and potential officer safety concerns we are not at liberty to go into the details of the system,” Keegan added, “but rest assured that the equipment will be employed for security and criminal investigative purposes within the parameters of the law.”

That certainly didn’t tell us very much.

...The statement of work that accompanies the solicitation, which was issued on August 16 by the FPS office in Kansas City, MO, explains that the system ought to be transportable by one person and be able to “monitor critical assets and remote locations,” both indoors and outdoors... "The surveillance camera software should be navigated by a 17-inch touch-screen monitor accompanied by a special industrial-grade back-lit keyboard for nighttime surveillance operations..."

Plus, approved users should be able to log-in to the wireless camera system, with their cell phone, laptop or compatible wireless device, to look at live feeds or previously-shot video stored on the system’s DVR.

The Federal Protective Service provided five pages of detailed technical specifications for the preferred DVR and surveillance cameras, but never got around to answering a fundamental question: What is the central mission for this rapidly deployable system?

What indeed?

Don't look for the ACLU to generate the same level of outrage over this sort of Orwellian activity as it once raised for the Bush administration's wire-tapping of terrorists.

And I wonder what the public sector unions think of this sort of monitoring activity? Fully supportive, no doubt.

Civil War Breaking Out in Failed Narco-State; President Obama Welcomes Combatants Into Arizona

23,000 people have died in Mexico as a result of its ongoing civil war. It's gotten so bad that business executives in the once-safe capital of Monterrey have taken out full-page newspaper ads pleading for help.

The growing violence in Monterrey, long one of Mexico's most modern and safe cities, is a sign that the country's war against drug gangs is spreading ever further from poorer battlegrounds along the border and into the country's wealthiest enclaves.

...Residents opened their newspapers Wednesday morning to find the ads taken out by Mexican business leaders, begging the government to send more military into the city. "Enough already," said the notice that ran in national and local papers, criticizing what it said was a slow response of police against "criminal bands that in every act look to establish a new boundary of terror."

Later that day, the body of Edelmiro Cavazos, mayor of the Monterrey suburb of Santiago, was found beside a highway. Mr. Cavazos had been abducted Sunday night, the latest in a string of attacks against politicians in Mexico's north.

His killing is another incident in a terrifying spell for Monterrey residents that began Saturday when armed gangs set up more than a dozen roadblocks on key boulevards of the city, paralyzing traffic for hours...

...The next day, a grenade was lobbed at the offices of an important television broadcaster. On Tuesday night, grenades were also hurled at several small businesses on the city's outskirts...

...The brutality of the conflict is escalating. Alleged gang hit men broke into the home of a Chihuahua state policeman this week and strangled to death his 4-year-old brother, authorities said...

...Across the country, mutilated and decapitated bodies turn up virtually every day, sometimes hanging from bridges.

It wasn't always this way in Monterrey. Mexicans know the city of 2 million as "The Sultan of the North," a nickname stemming from its wealth, generated by corporations such as Mexico's beverage titan Femsa S.A.B. de C.V. and U.S. businesses such as Whirlpool Corp. and General Electric Co., which have large offices in Monterrey. International architects built the city's skyline, which is framed by dramatic mountains.

As the civil war inside Mexico's failed narco-state spreads, border security will become an increasing concern.

The violence, drugs and refugees spreading into our country would tax even an economically healthy United States. And, thanks to the Obama Democrats, our country is anything but.

That is why the Democrats' failure to enforce immigration law is doubly insane.

Eric Holder's Outrage du jour: Will Sue Sheriff Joe Arpaio Next Week

Government Security News alerts us to Eric Holder's latest outrage. Rather than seal the southern border against an ongoing invasion of drug-smugglers, gun-runners, gang-members, criminals and other undocumented Democrats, the Justice Department will probably sue one of the best sheriffs in the country.

U.S. Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez warned attorneys for Sheriff Joe Arpaio, of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) in Arizona, in a letter dated August 3, that unless Arpaio voluntarily cooperates by August 17 with an investigation by the Justice Department’s civil rights division into allegations that Arpaio’s office has engaged in “unlawful searches and seizures, discriminatory police conduct, and failure to provide basic services to individuals with limited English proficiency,” the Justice Dept. “will file a Title VI civil action to compel access to the requested documents, facilities and personnel.”

...the Perez letter says, “In order to avoid litigation, please provide a complete response to the First Request and an agreement to permit access to all pertinent MCSO facilities and personnel no later than August 17, 2010.”

...According to an article by Channing Turner in the independent, Washington-based news site Main Justice, attorney Robert Driscoll, of Alston & Bird, LLP, who represents Arpaio, has described the Justice Department’s threat to sue the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office as premature and has indicated that Arpaio will cooperate with certain elements of the probe.

But Driscoll also claimed that Arpaio had previously handed over thousands of documents in a lawsuit involving allegations that Arpaio’s deputies had racially profiled Hispanics, and that arguments contained in the Perez letter “conflated the legal boundaries between two separate and ongoing investigations.”

Millions of illegals have entered the country. The southern border is wide open. The American people, by a huge margin, want the border sealed before there's any talk of a path to citizenship "immigration reform".

But the Democrats refuse to secure the border. They refuse to protect the lives of American law enforcement officers. They refuse to stop known terrorists from entering the country. They defy their most important mission -- to protect Americans.

So why do we have Customs inspections at ports of entry?

Why do we have full-body scanners at airports?

And why do we have a Justice Department that insists on civil rights for illegal aliens, but not American voters intimidated by racists at polling places?

There is something deeply, deeply flawed (I almost used a different F-word) with the modern Democrat Party. And all of us had better take action in November.

RED ALERT: Unanimous Vote by AFL-CIO Group Demands Obama Administration Stop Setting Illegals Free

Are you tired of getting riled up by a new affront each day? So am I -- believe me. But gird your loins, dear reader, because the two of us are about to experience new levels of progressive depravity.

It was unanimous. That is, 259 of 259 representatives of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement arm of the AFL-CIO voted to demand the removal of President Obama's DHS immigration heads. 100%. And, surprisingly, you won't read it in your beloved daily fish wrap.

In an unprecedented move within the Department of Homeland Security, the detention and removal officers and agents responsible for and sworn to enforcing our nation's immigration laws issued an exhaustive, scathing letter simply titled "VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN ICE DIRECTOR JOHN MORTON AND ODPP ASSISTANT DIRECTOR PHYLLIS COVEN" on June 11, 2010. The letter, acquired through sources, provides a litany of examples of how ICE's mission is being skewed towards supporting an unflinching goal of amnesty by refusing to allow agents to do their job; allowing criminal aliens to roam free; depleting resources for key enforcement initiatives that preceded this administration; and misrepresenting facts and programs, demeaning the extent of the criminal alien problem and geared to support amnesty.

The letter, authored by ICE Union President Chris Crane, begins as follows, noting that all ICE union representatives have signed on to a unanimous "Vote of No Confidence" in ICE leadership:

On June 11, 2010, the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council and its constituent local representatives from around the nation, acting on behalf of approximately 7,000 ICE officers and employees from the ICE Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), cast a unanimous “Vote of No Confidence” in the Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), John Morton, and the Assistant Director of the ICE Office of Detention Policy and Planning, (ODPP), Phyllis Coven.

Providing numerous facts the media and public have not been privy to, the letter relates ICE leadership dishonesty and failure to abide by their oath to uphold the law. The letter also outlines the importance of local law enforcement referrals to ICE, and the striking symbiotic relationship between local enforcement and ICE on immigration matters. Exemplary are these two bullets:

• While ICE reports internally that more than 90 percent of ICE detainees are first encountered in jails after they are arrested by local police for criminal charges, ICE senior leadership misrepresents this information publicly in order to portray ICE detainees as being non-criminal in nature to support the Administration's position on amnesty and relaxed security at ICE detention facilities.

• The majority of ICE ERO Officers are prohibited from making street arrests or enforcing United States immigration laws outside of the institutional (jail) setting. This has effectively created "amnesty through policy" for anyone illegally in the United States who has not been arrested by another agency for a criminal violation.

In one uncharacteristic note of sarcasm, the outcome of the Obama Administration new detention policy is described as follows, including dance lessons and hanging plants for criminal aliens in detention facilities:

• ICE Detention Reforms have transformed into a detention system aimed at providing resort like living conditions to criminal aliens. Senior ICE leadership excluded ICE officers and field managers (the technical experts on ICE detention) from the development of these reforms, and instead solicited recommendations from special interest groups. The lack of technical expertise and field expertise has resulted in a priority of providing bingo nights, dance lessons and hanging plants to criminals, instead of addressing safe and responsible detention reforms for non-criminal individuals and families. Unlike any other agency in the nation, ICE officers will be prevented from searching detainees housed in ICE facilities allowing weapons, drugs and other contraband into detention centers putting detainees, ICE officers and contract guards at risk.

Interestingly, ICE Director John Morton told the Washington Post, in regard to this letter and other interest groups that call for his resignation (apparently this is quite common for him), that such letters are just, "part of the territory here." Mr. Morton, may I suggest that a significant problem with dismissing a No Confidence Vote from your entire employee population is, when you run an agency of 7,000 officers and agents, you can't do your job unless they do theirs? Oh wait, that is the whole point, is it not?

Dereliction of duty?

Impeachment?

Not sure... but what did Obama know -- and when did he know it?

Priorities: Eric Holder Threatens Legal Action Against Sheriff Joe Arpaio While Illegal Alien, Freed Twice by Immigration, Kills Nun

Juxtapose the following two stories to illustrate the country's woes under Democrat leadership in microcosm.

1. Holder Threatens to Sue Arpaio

The Justice Department says an Arizona sheriff known for his efforts against illegal immigrants has refused to cooperate with a civil rights investigation and the department is threatening to sue... Since March 2009, the U.S. Justice Department has been investigating Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office in Phoenix for alleged discrimination and for unconstitutional searches and seizures. Arpaio says the inquiry is focused on his immigration efforts.

Rumor has it that Holder is upset that Arpaio has repeatedly interfered with the administration's efforts to increase the number of illegal aliens undocumented Democrats.

2. Illegal Immigrant Awaiting Deportation Charged With Killing Nun

The man charged in connection with the Sunday crash that took the life of a Bristow nun is an illegal alien who was out on bond awaiting a deportation hearing, police said Monday.

..."The despicable thing is that this criminal was … handed over to ICE twice, and released by ICE twice. He’s gone out an killed a nun. That’s a perfect example of what’s wrong with immigration enforcement in this country," said Stewart, who has drafted legislation for stricter illegal immigration laws statewide. "The blame is on representatives in Congress for being so flaccid on the issue, and they continue not to fund the deportation of illegal immigrants in this country."

While the administration pursues law enforcement for its efforts to protect American citizens, the invasion of illegals, drugs and arms continues unchecked, documented on film by a few brave patriots who tread where Eric Holder dares not.

When will Americans and Democrats (yes, I said it) demand that Obama and Holder enforce federal law?

Remember November.
