Paul Krugman channels Sarah Palin, admits Death Panels will be required to keep Obamacare solvent

I'm guessing that Sparky McEnron didn't realize he was being videotaped:

Eventually we do have a problem. That the population is getting older, health care costs are rising... there is this question of how we’re going to pay for the programs. The year 2025, the year 2030, something is going to have to give...

We’re going to need more revenue... Surely it will require some sort of middle class taxes as well... We won’t be able to pay for the kind of government the society will want without some increase in taxes... on the middle class, maybe a value added tax...

And we’re also going to have to make decisions about health care, doc pay for health care that has no demonstrated medical benefits.

So the snarky version... which I shouldn’t even say because it will get me in trouble is death panels and sales taxes is how we do this.

"Death panels and sales taxes is how we do this"?

Say, I wonder if the ill-named "Politifact" will formally apologize for calling Sarah Palin's reference to Obamamcare's death panels its 2009 "Lie of the Year", when it's now been verified by President Obama's favorite economist?

Or if The Chicago Tribune, which also called Palin's assertions "lies", will issue a formal retraction?

Or if Obama apologist Glenn Kessler, the Washington Post's error-prone "Fact Checker", will change his "Four Pinocchio" rating to "Fact"?

Or whether the Huffington Post, Politico, Jezebel, Forbes' Peter Ubel, the execrable New Republic and Mediaite (to name but a few) will issue written statements of regret to Palin for their incessant denials of provable fact?

Krugman's not the only Obama apparatchik to admit that death panels exist; Steven Rattner, former Obama czar, has also confirmed that Obamacare will require Death Panels to ration care as the population ages.

Death Panels are real and everyone -- including Obama's advisers -- know it.

And the winner of the Superbowl was... Twitter!

Data assembled by the Altimeter Group indicates that Twitter was the dominant branding mechanism during the Superbowl, blasting Facebook in terms of volume.

Overall, we saw brands still hold onto corporate websites, although a big jump in hashtag usage, and decline in Facebook integration...

75% of Brands integrate second screen experience, up 7%. Overall, 75% of brand ads integrated social, mobile, hashtags, or apps in their $4m, 30 second spot (that’s $133k per second), this is up from 68% integration in 2012. This second screen promotion extends engagement to their websites and social sites, fostering a further integrated experience. Of note, Oreo was able to quickly create ads on social channels that tapped into the unexpected blackout, showing their advertising and marketing prowess, cross-screen. Expect this growth rate to only continue in 2014, as ads should cross the 80-90% integration rate.

Hashtags, presumably aimed for Twitter, dominate over Facebook. Hashtag integration in ads dominated the airtime, with 38% of ads including Hashtags in visual display on ads, up 31% out of a total of 64 ads. Twitter, a media-centric, network serves better for real time interactions of live events, rather than Facebook, which may spur deeper engagement through interactive media, social interactions, and applications...

And if you're not following me on Twitter, you're missing out on a veritable avalanche of borderline useful information.

A simple chart explains why things are going to have to get a whole lot worse before they get better

America's plethora of low-information voters say that the country is headed down the toilet. Yet, because many (or most) seem to get their news from The View, The Daily Show, Honey Boo-Boo, or NBC, they have largely disconnected the president's abysmal performance from the country's direction.

My contention, therefore, is that things will have to get much, much worse before the president's excuses, straw-men, and enemies lists finally begin to stink like the overripe corpses they are.

HAHAHAHAHA: White House actually commanded people not to photoshop the Obama gun picture with predictable results

How can people not Photoshop the hilarious image of President Obama "doing skeet-shooting"?

That's what @FlyFidelity asks, posting this classic from FreakingNews.

Oh, and can you believe it? The White House really did command you peons not to Photoshop the image. With predictable results.

Oh, here's a classic from SooperMexican:

Maybe they don't want people Photoshopping a Photoshop?

Update: Sad Hill News:

I assume Bill Ayers was with the president at Camp David.

And this.

Update II: Heh:

Update III: More mockery.

Update IV: The President hunts for supper:

President Obama's Busy Day

Brad emailed us this graphic:

And notes, "Here is a picture from the AP of Obama on Aug 4th - look at the watch."

"Look at the watch he is wearing in the shooting pic... how many people change watches during the day from a golfing watch to a shooting watch?"

Verrry interesting.

FOR REAL: White House Releases Photo of President Obama Doing "Skeet-Shooting All the Time"

Oh, my.

WHITE HOUSE RELEASES PHOTO OF OBAMA FIRING GUN

The White House has released a photo of President Barack Obama firing a gun, two days before he heads to Minnesota to discuss gun control.

...In a recent interview with The New Republic magazine, Obama said "yes" when asked if he has ever fired a gun. He said "we do skeet shooting all the time," except for his daughters, at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland...

Thanks to cub reporter Biff Spackle, this august journal had already published photographs proving President Obama's shooting prowess.

AT LAST: Important Merger Formalized

I guess this makes it official.

Martha Raddatz could not be reached for comment at press time.

Soros Mascots at Media Matters Used Illegal Handgun in DC, Attended Events with... Dianne Feinstein

The hypocrisy, it burns.

A staffer at left-wing Media Matters for America committed numerous felonies in the District of Columbia and around the country by carrying a firearm to defend the organization’s founder, David Brock, The Daily Caller has learned.

According to a knowledgeable source, multiple firearms used to protect the Media Matters founder were purchased with Brock’s blessing — and apparently with the group’s money.

TheDC has previously reported that Brock’s one-time aide, Haydn Price-Morris, carried a concealed Glock handgun as he traveled with the liberal leader to public events in Washington, D.C.

...Price-Morris was regularly armed when accompanying Brock on trips around the country, according to a source, and his firearm possession in Washington, D.C. constituted multiple felonies.

On at least one occasion, Brock — accompanied by his armed aide — visited California to attend a “Democracy Alliance” summit of major Democratic donors and lawmakers.

That gathering included such major figures in Democratic politics as billionaires George Soros, Peter Lewis and Bill Benter, former Service Employees International Union Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger, and the politician behind the federal government’s 1994 “Assault Weapons Ban,” California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Just when you think the hard left Democrat Party can't become any more hypocritical, they warp the space-time continuum and create brand new dimensions of sleaze.

Suffice it to say that Media Matters' felonious activities will go unpunished, presumably through the same "talk show loophole" that protects David Gregory.

Remember folks: we're the rabble. They're the elites. Laws don't matter for them, just as arithmetic, history, logic, facts and reason are irrelevant to the suicidal policies of the Democrats.

ABC's Martha Raddatz hosts Sen. Bob Menendez, fails to ask about FBI investigation into his alleged dalliances with underage hookers

Alternate headline: Exhibit 9,036 proving that the media is a fully-owned subsidiary of the federal government

ABC’s This Week invited Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) on the show this weekend to discuss current issues.

On Friday the news broke that the FBI has been investigating top Democratic Senator Bob Menendez for engaging in sex with underage Dominican hookers on junkets with a wealthy Democrat donor.

For some reason the ABC host Martha Raddatz forgot to ask Menendez about the hooker scandal.

That’s outrageous. You could imagine the grilling this man would get if he had an “R” behind his name instead of a “D”. Instead, ABC willfully keeps the public in the dark on this horrific scandal.

The federal government and the media have formally merged into a single, holistic entity bent on destroying the Constitution of the United States.

Which is why I urge all regular Americans to boycott ABC, NBC, CBS and the rest of the alphabet channels. Never watch them. Never link them. Never refer to them.

They deserve nothing but your ridicule.

What can and must be done about the media

An important post at Ace of Spades deserves our focused attention. Its title -- "We Must Do Something About The Media" -- hints at some trademark snark, but its theme is deadly serious.

I've mentioned this before, but I'm truly alarmed about it: What we are witnessing is the full and seamless fusion of media power with government power.

...The media no longer hides it in their actions. They are fully fused with the Obama Administration and DNC. The only way in which they do hide it is by simply lying when confronted about it: They'll issue a snide denial, then go about doing precisely what it is they were accused of doing.

...it is dangerous and ultimately fatal for democracy for media power to fuse with government power, that the adversarial press is vital.

...The media considers its adversarial function to consist of serving as adversaries to critics of Obama and the Democrats; thus Terry Moran shaming himself by rushing out to ask what right a Senator has to question the Secretary of State on matters of foreign policy.

...This is dark, and dangerous, and will lead to horrors. It always has [led] to horrors before.

...Consider: The government locked up a filmmaker because the filmmaker expressed his free speech rights in a way the president found politically problematic. Not only has the press shown no fears about this, they've actively campaigned for the man's jailing.

That's frightening. Even if you come down on the side that the guy did what he's accused of and all that... to have absolutely no trepidation about the government jailing people primarily for their Speech Crimes? That's something.

...I don't think I'm being alarmist. At every point in history when media power has fused with government power -- whether involuntarily or, for one of the first times in history, now voluntarily -- it has resulted in disaster and misery.

So do we just sit there and take it? I'm no genius, but here are a few ideas for actions that each of us can take:

• If you have a subscription to any newspaper that advances the Statist agenda -- The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe foremost among them -- cancel that subscription. Enthusiastically encourage subscribers you know to cancel as well, even if they have no particular ideological bent. Tell them they can save money by reading the news on their iPad.

• For television, ignore all news programs save those on the Fox News Channel. Your cable box is likely sending your viewing information back to corporate headquarters. So don't give any ratings whatsoever to any of the alphabet channels' news program, or their insipid Sunday Talk Shows, or any of their propaganda efforts. Don't watch any of the Statist media's news shows. Ratings matter -- and each one of us can make a difference.

• Subscribe to Investors Business Daily, American Spectator, and other conservative outlets.

• Support new media outlets like PJTV by signing up or offering financial assistance.

• Don't take your favorite blogs and news sites for granted: many sites offer a voluntary "subscription" donation via PayPal. Even very small donations can help (and, no, that's not a personal bleg).

If you agree, tell your family members, friends and like-minded colleagues about the plan. It's time to stick it to the government's media complex. Each of us can make a difference.

YEP, I REMEMBER ALL OF THESE FAWNING, SYCOPHANTIC ARTICLES WHEN REAGAN AND BUSH WERE INAUGURATED, TOO

Rejected headline for this post: A cacophony of butt-smooching:

Fortunately, the market for hard left advocacy "journalists" is just as sustainable as the federal government's finances; thus, in most cases, we'll be offered the opportunity to wish many of these crackpots a fond adieu.

Keeping Al Jazeera Out of Your Home [Jack]

Jack:

Al Jazeera wants to be able to tell its anti-American story to everyone in the United States -- and it has begun by buying Current TV through Al Gore for an outrageous amount of money.

Their purpose is not to make money, but rather to be able to influence the American public. They are therefore prepared to buy their way into your home through your TV.

Money is no object to oil rich Qatar which has been ruled as an absolute and hereditary emirate by the Al Thani family since the mid-19th century. As the article below points out, most cable networks are paid by cable providers. However Qatar has so much money that it will pay your cable provider to be included in their mix of channels.

The only way we are going to stop this from happening is if we each advise our provider that we will drop their service if they include or retain Al Jazeera in their lineup.

Whether you are serviced by Time Warner, Comcast, Dish, Cox, Verizon, or AT&T, let them know now that if they begin to include Al Jazeera, you will switch to another provider.

Al Jazeera's New Channel Struggles for US Distribution

Al Jazeera's announced plans to establish a new U.S. cable news channel via the purchase of Current TV isn't even 48 hours old and already it finds itself in a vicious battle to retain distribution rights.

Al Jazeera's acquisition of Current TV is basically a pay-for-distribution play. The Qatar-backed network plans to replace Current TV in the more than 40 million homes where it is currently distributed with its own news network, tentatively dubbed Al Jazeera America. The new network's success is predicated on maintaining, if not increasing, that level of distribution.

One person with knowledge of cable TV deals said pay-TV operators will definitely seek more favorable terms from Al Jazeera since, "no one wanted to carry Current TV and they want to carry an Al Jazeera channel even less."

For instance upon learning of deal, which closed on Wednesday, Time Warner Cable immediately said that it would terminate its contract with Current TV, meaning its customers would not be seeing the new network to be named Al Jazeera America...

Al Jazeera has been trying to break into the U.S. cable market for years, but the network has so far failed to gain significant distribution largely for political reasons. The Pan-Arab network had been viewed by many as being anti-American particularly at the height of the U.S. War in Iraq.

Cable industry sources interpreted that statement to mean that Time Warner Cable would be open to distributing Al Jazeera America, just not at the same 12 cents per subscriber per month that Current TV was receiving, media consultancy firm SNL Kagan said... By comparison, SNL Kagan said Fox News averages 89 cents per subscriber per month, while CNN gets 57 cents and MSNBC collects 18 cents...

Interesting: the average Fox News viewer is worth more than four (4) times his or her MSNBC equivalent. Which pretty much says it all about the radical sixties retreads running MSFBC.

LEVIN ABSOLUTELY TORCHES BOB SCHIEFFER: A Very Sick Old Man

Doesn't CBS require employees to retire by age 115?

After CBS reporter Bob Schieffer compared taking on the gun lobby to ending segregation or America defeating the Nazis in World War II and passing civil rights legislation despite a segregationist South, conservative radio host Mark Levin bashed the journalist as a “phony” who is a “propagandist” acting as a “cheerleader” for the Obama administration...

"You should hear the media today. It’s pathetic. If we were talking about the First Amendment as I’ve said repeatedly, they’d be going nuts about a dictator. But because we’re talking about the Second Amendment, they cheer him on. Where’s this jerk from CBS, this Bob Schieffer, this dinosaur?

...This is one of these pretend journalists I talk about, a Potemkin journalist, a phony.

This guy needs to see a doctor in my humble opinion, Mr. Producer. This guy needs to be checked.

...Defeating the Nazis a more formidable task than taking on the gun lobby? You know what, Bob Schieffer, you’re a very sick old man. You really are. Your liberalism often now spews out, spews forth like somebody who’s heaving. You pretend you’re a newsman. You’ve been around for at least a century. How pathetic you are.

...I want to explain something to this phony journalist, to this pretend dinosaur here. We can’t stop murder in federal prisons you idiot. We can’t in state prisons, in county jails, in city jails where people are behind bars, where the government controls their every movement, when they take a crap, when they take a shower, when they eat their meals, when they exercise. Everything is controlled, and we can’t control murder and rape and assaults in our prison system. And suddenly, it’s not the country he remembers if we can’t prevent these things in the future.

The facts don’t matter to Bob Schieffer. Bob Schieffer’s a cheerleader. He’s a clapping seal. Somebody give him a ball so he can balance it on his nose."

Yes, setting the Constitution afire is just like combating the Nazis. That is, if you're a liberal kook disguised as a "journalist".

QOTD: Obama Declares Nothing Is Ever His Fault, Especially the Debt Since 2009

Jim Geraghty, writing at the peerless Morning Jolt:

Breaking: Obama Declares Nothing Is Ever His Fault, Especially the Debt Since 2009

Obama's press conferences, rare as they are, are going to be even more unbearable in the second term.

It's not like his rhetorical sleight-of-hand is all that complicated, and at this point, it feels like watching a magician perform very predictable and boring tricks. He insists that whatever he wants at that moment is "sensible" and insists that any cuts, of any program, be they discretionary spending or entitlement programs, fail to represent a "balanced approach" and "balancing the budget on the backs of the most vulnerable." The spending he wants is always characterized as "investments we need to make."

He says he's open to "making modest adjustments to programs like Medicare to protect them for future generations" without going into much detail about what they are; usually they amount to declaring the federal government will pay doctors less and hoping those doctors don't stop seeing Medicare patients, the way the Mayo Clinic did. Less than a month after getting the income-tax increases he started demanding the moment the GOP took over the House of Representatives, he's at it again, declaring, "We need more revenue, through tax reform, by closing loopholes in our tax code for the wealthiest Americans." He still complains that "a multimillionaire investor can pay less in tax rates than a secretary" and "tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans" as if nothing had changed on January 1.

Four years into his presidency, the problem is not of his making; he spoke about "spending that Congress has already committed to" and "debate with this Congress about whether or not they should pay the bills they've already racked up" as if he had nothing to do with the rate of federal spending since January 20, 2009.

Asking for statesmanship from a charismatic demagogue is somewhat akin to asking for diet tips from Rosie O'Donnell.

CHEESY: Why is THE BLAZE hotlinking images from ZERO HEDGE?

I just happened upon a very neat infographic at The Blaze (via BadBlue) that depicts the amount of gold that exists in the world.

I wanted to grab a copy of the image for myself and just happened to look at the source of The Blaze image to see where they were hosting it. I was shocked to find that a monstrous, well-funded news site like The Blaze was hotlinking the image from Zero Hedge!

In this case, "Hotlinking" basically means that The Blaze is using the bandwidth, storage and servers of Zero Hedge to host its content. This practice could be excused if, for instance, it was simply a n00b blogger who didn't know what the heck he was doing.

In the case of The Blaze, however, it seems to be just another in a series of somewhat cheesy practices.

I've heard from fellow bloggers -- big bloggers, in fact -- that their content has been, uhm, appropriated by The Blaze without attribution on several occasions.

In fact, I've seen a bit of this kind of behavior myself, where an entire post was copied with as minor an attribution as can be imagined.

Look, I like and frequently link to The Blaze.

But I suspect Mr. Beck has enough extra pocket change to avoid hotlinking images and otherwise engaging in practices that are considered, at best, poor form. Here's a plea to the folks at The Blaze for more responsible attribution and hosting practices.

NOW THIS IS SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER: Mark Levin shreds Obama Presser and "Pretend Media"

Earlier today, attorney Mark Levin appeared on FOX News Channel's America Live with Megyn Kelly and offered a blunt assessment of President Obama's press conference.

I'm not into imperial presidents who act imperial and speak imperial and Obama forgets there's a Constitution. Yes, he keeps telling us he won reelection. Congratulations, but guess what?

The Constitution wasn't up for election, it's not up for a referendum or a plebiscite. He has to comply with it, too.

He was sent back to Washington, but he's got a strict list of rules that he has to follow as president.

When he gets up there and starts saying, if Congress doesn't do this, I'm going to do this unilaterally, it violates separation of power a lot of the times. And this is a man pushing the edge of the envelope as far as i'm concerned, whether it's the appointment clause, whether it's his unilateral action on immigration, whether it's trashing the commerce clause and the tax clauses under Obamacare.

Now they're talking about executive orders on the Second Amendment. They've issued regulations on First Amendment attacking religious liberty. This notion that he might be able to lift the debt ceiling, you know, unilaterally under the Fourteenth Amendment.

What the hell is this? He was elected president. Congratulations. This guy makes Richard Nixon look like a man who followed the law all the time. I think we have an imperial president, he sounds imperial, he's arrogant as hell and I'm furious about this and I'm going to tell you why.

We are a magnificent country. We don't need to be turned upside down. We don't need to run from crisis to crisis to crisis. He's bankrupting this country.

He said we've had a discussion about the debt. When did we have a discussion about the debt? We've had a debate about taxes. The man's never around to have a discussion about anything. So, yes, he causes me to be furious when I watch and listen to him.

Kelly also asked Levin about the gun debate and the debt ceiling discussion; what are "the big lies" that he so frequently speaks of and how is the media intertwined with the president's fabrications?

There are a lot of big lies with this president. First of all, I call [the mainstream media] the "pretend media". I mean, what do they do? When they talk about the 14th Amendment and the debt ceiling, do they say, "Mr. President, that's not the point of it, and that's never been done before, could you explain that being the constitutional genius that you are?"

No.

Can we actually talk about the debt?

No. It's all Bush's fault.

And let's talk about guns. There's not a single idea being leaked out of this White House that would have prevented this horrific mass murder.

They're dusting off all their wants and demands like they always do. We have a Second Amendment. The Second Amendment matters. It's not up for grabs. It's not up to Biden, and Obama, and the goofball governor from Maryland and all the rest of them. And yet, you would think the Constitution is just some other statute that these guys can play with.

This is why I'm furious. Because once we lose the Constitution -- and we're losing it, big -- what's left? How do we keep these people in check?

Let me just say for the record that Mark Levin is a national treasure. Download his free podcast every night and get a free, college-level course in American history as an added bonus.

BRILLIANT: Journal News Gun Map Leads Criminals to a House Where Break-In, Attempted Theft of Firearms Reported

Let the lawsuits begin!

BREAKING NEWS: ATTEMPTED GUN BURGLARY TIED TO JOURNAL NEWS GUN MAPS

...a burglary has been reported on Davis Ave. in White Plains, New York that evidently ties into The Journal News gun maps. It is reported that the burglar used The Journal News’ interactive gun map to target a home included on the map. Luckily the gun was locked up and no one was hurt.

“The Journal News has placed the lives of these folks at risk by creating a virtual shopping list for criminals and nut jobs. If the connection is proven, this is further proof that these maps are not only an invasion of privacy but that they present a clear and present danger to law-abiding, private citizens. Former convicts have already testified to the usefulness of the asinine Journal News ‘gun maps’ yet the reckless editors are evidently willing to roll the dice, gambling with the lives of innocent local homeowners,” said Senator Greg Ball.

...Ball will be publicly unveiling Senate bill (S2132) [that] would protect lawful gun owners, including thousands of retired and active law enforcement and victim of domestic violence survivors, from having their information publicly disclosed.

“The same elitist eggheads who use their editorial page to coddle terrorists and criminals are now treating law abiding citizens like level three sexual predators... Publishing this information on a website, as we have evidently just witnessed in the recent attempted gun burglary, provides criminals with a map of where they can steal firearms from lawful owners for later use in the commission of crimes. This legislation is critical,” said... Ball.

...the Vice President of the Affiliated Police Association of Westchester County, Robert Buckley, said in a letter, publishing these maps online is jeopardizing the safety of residents and is irresponsible.

The Affiliated Police Association of Westchester County Inc. is putting The Journal News on notice that we will hold [them] accountable for any incident where any of our over 25,000 members are involved with an incident where a criminal or ex-con presents themselves at the residence of one of our members as a result of their name being made public by [their] newspaper,” said Buckley.

The Affiliated Police Association of Westchester will be holding a press conference on January 15, 2013 at the Westchester County Courthouse located at 111 Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard, White Plains, N.Y. at 1:00 p.m.

Oh, but Officer Buckley: the media are facilitating gun crimes for the children!
