The Unappreciated Genius Doug Mataconis Says Ted Cruz is "Foolish" for Trying to Stop the Obamacare Trainwreck

99 percent of you have no earthly idea who or what a Doug Mataconis is (if that actually is his real name). Nor should any of you care, other than the fact that his website is home to dozens, if not hundreds, of woefully confused progressives. In his latest excretion, Mataconis takes Ted Cruz and fellow conservatives to task for daring to fight Obamacare.

Cruz’s advice requires anyone who follows it to ignore political reality to a significant degree. For one thing, 2013 is not 1995, and the Republican Party, especially in its Congressional incarnation, is not viewed nearly as positively today as it was nearly 20 years ago.

Gee, Doug, ya think it has anything to do with the fact that the Republican Party in its current state stands for absolutely nothing? Tell me, Doug, what does it stand for? Lower taxes? No. Secure borders? No. Investigating the Obama administration's unprecedented series of scandals? No.

Of course the Republican Party is unpopular. It spends its energy fighting the same conservative base that brought it to power in 2010 in an unprecedented beatdown of Democrats nationwide rather than the Marxist Left that is Cloward-Pivenizing the country into bankruptcy. And instead of embracing fiscal conservatism, the Tea Party, and First Principles, it repudiates them.

Its marble-mouthed "leaders" like John Boehner and Mitch McConnell have all the charisma of your average houseplant.

So, Sherlock Mataconis, if you're looking for reasons that the GOP is unpopular, perhaps you could add one (the far left Democrat kook movement) and one (the conservative base) and you'll come up with two (the answer).

More importantly, though, Cruz is making the same mistake that Republicans made in 1995, and which they have made several times already in the four years that President Obama has been President. He believes that by taking the Federal Government to the brink, they can somehow turn the tables and make the public believe that it’s President Obama who’s at fault for the fact that the Government has been, or is about to be shut down. They tried in in the Spring of 2011 when the government was about to run out of money, they tried it in July and August of that year with the battle over the debt ceiling, and they’ve tried it several times since then.

How many shutdowns did the Republicans pull off? Oh, that's right: none. So comparing a shutdown to a Boehner surrender is like comparing monkeys to cashews.

Let me get this straight: the GOP passes a CR that funds the entire government except for the wildly unpopular and destructive Obamacare cluster -- and Obama blocks it, shutting down the government.

Who do you think gets the blame? Oh, that's right: Mataconis thinks Ted Cruz will.

In reality, the GOP will be viewed as heroes by roughly 60 percent of the electorate.

Best of all, Obama will be on the hook for actually making a decision: (a) either shutting down the cancerous federal leviathan that grows in good times and bad; or (b) funding the federal government and starving Obamacare.

Either way, Republicans win.

So if you're relying on Doug Mataconis for political advice, I'd recommend using a Ouija Board instead. It's bound to offer more reliable counsel and it has a better chance of outwitting Ted Cruz than Doug ever had.

TRANSCRIPT: Mark Levin on Cavuto -- Obama's Scandals are Real, It's His Rhetoric That's Phony

Mark Levin, appearing today on Your World With Neil Cavuto:

This President could give a damn about serious investigations regarding the scandals swirling around his administration. And then his lackeys go on TV, including Fox News Sunday, and tell us there's no evidence? Their people plead the Fifth. The Attorney General doesn't conduct investigations.

And what's necessary is for the Republicans in the House to get their act together.

We don't need five separate House committees investigating Benghazi. We need one Special Investigative Commitee -- with former U.S. assistant attorneys and other types of prosecutors, who are serious people and have the resources necessary full-time to pursue these matters -- and put the information out on the table.

Same with the Internal Revenue Service investigation. We've got committees tripping over one another, claiming jurisdiction. Once again, we need experts, we need to pursue these things with a Special Investigative Committee.

And then the pressure builds for a Special Prosecutor. Even though Holder won't want to appoint one, over time enough information will come out where it will become necessary.

The President of the United States -- it's been almost a year -- will still not tell the American people what he was doing for eight-and-a-half hours after our consulate was attacked in Benghazi...

The President uses his word phony [to describe his scandals]. It's actually a perfect word for him, because his speeches are phony, his promises are phony, his economy is phony, the whole damn thing is phony.

Let me tell you something... from my point of view, once more, the Speaker of the House, he's in charge of organizing these investigations... and he won't. They're flopping around, they're navel-gazing... because they don't think there's anything political in this. They're playing rope-a-dope, they're playing it safe, they want to push through the next election.

Boehner wants to remain Speaker, Cantor Majority Leader... the point is, the fact is, if they'd been running effective investigations, one committee -- a joint committee -- with some of the sharpest, toughest individuals we know investigating Benghazi, we'd be to the bottom of this already.

Same with the IRS scandal. The president should be served with an interrogatory. It's been done before...

What is everybody talking about? Weiner's weiner, for God's sakes... The Trayvon Martin case, that went on for a month.

Meanwhile, we have an Internal Revenue Service that was illegally attacking United States citizens because of their politics, because of their political viewpoints, because of their religion. I mean, for crying out loud, if that doesn't raise an uproar... we have four Americans dead and the President of the United States is running all over the country and refuses to tell the American people what the hell he was doing for eight-and-a-half hours. I think he was sleeping. But he won't say.

We have this NSA -- massive gathering of telephone numbers -- basically nationalizing the phone companies' records as if that's going to fight terrorism...

[On Christie's support of the NSA program and attacks on Rand Paul] ...Maybe this Chris Christie can get in front of these 9/11 families and tell us how this NSA program would have saved a single life or prevented a single terrorist attack. You know how these terrorists got into this country? The border wasn't secure and they overstayed their visas. What is Chris Christie's position on that?

Christie's weak on Amnesty. So I think it's a mistake for him to use 9/11 to attack who he believes will be his political opponents in a Republican primary...

We conservatives have been fighting against the Republican establishment for half a century, whether they take the form of Chris Christie, or Romney... or Gerald Ford or Richard Nixon.

This country needs to move in a new direction, economically, Constitutionally, when it comes to our Bill of Rights.

Hysterical, Hyperbolic Leftist Media Falls for the Old "North Pole is Melting" Gag Again

As if the tools in Praetorian Media haven't been embarrassed enough over the past four-plus years -- having to cover for their increasingly scandal-ridden failure in the White House -- their latest gaffe really is hilariously unhinged.

Al Gore’s “Reality Minions” think the North Pole is melting – except that’s NOT a photo of the North Pole

...It isn’t very hard to catch Al Gore and his Climate Reality project followers in ridiculous claims that don’t hold up. For example there was his statement on national television where he claimed the temperature of the interior of the Earth was “millions of degrees” and then there is his “Climate 101″ video that failed so they had to fake the results in post production. None of his followers call him out on such things, so it isn’t a surprise to find that they think this photo proves the North Pole is melting, far worse than before...

...Only one problem: that picture wasn’t take at the North Pole, it was taken over 300 miles away.

You see while they were busy lecturing the faithful, they forgot the one teensy-eeensy little detail about the source of this photo. It is from camera on top of the sea ice, and sea ice isn’t static, it moves. In fact according to the University of Washington who manages and tracks  these floating cameras and weather stations, while they started out near the North Pole, they aren’t anywhere close to it now. See the map:

Oh, my. Well that certainly is embarrassing. But the hapless Leftists didn't just stop there.

That was enough to spur the sans-factually emotive Huffington Post into action with a before and after comparator:

...Of course, like the Gore Reality Bots, all of these “journalists” also missed the simple fact that the photo was taken hundreds of miles away where the buoy had drifted to. They could easily check this themselves with about 30 seconds of work, visiting the source for the photo here...

...And as of today the “North Pole melt crisis” seems to be over...

...And, of course, photos actually taken at the North Pole by the US navy show that such open water in a regular occurrence in the past:

If it wasn't for global warming, maybe the kooks at HuffPo would have some ice to put on that.

Charles Payne: "President Obama would love to see civil unrest in this country very much like the Arab Spring"

In his eighth and most recent pivot to the economy, President Obama has begun channeling Saul Alinsky as though he's participating in a seance with the late Communist rabble-rouser. His rambling, 80-minute long, Castro-like speeches have increasingly revealed an inner anger with America (as noted by White House correspondent Keith Koffler).

Fox Business analyst Charles Payne sees an ominous method to the madness.

Stuart Varney: Obama used the term "inequality" more than he used the word "growth". And this is a problem, according to Charles Payne.

Charles Payne: It is a problem. He talked about [income inequality] being morally wrong. You know, Stuart, if you and I entered this building and there were different rules for each of us, that would be morally wrong. But if I dropped out of high school and smoked weed all day and you worked your way through college and made more money than I did, that's not inequality, that's just.

Here's what this president did: he tried to condemn capitalism. He tried to condemn success. He promotes mediocrity. And he's making excuses for people to fail in this country, instead of being honest about it.

His phrases: "people who lost their homes through no fault of their own", "people who lost their jobs through no fault of their own..." You know what: if I own a business and have 10 employees and things get bad, guess what? I'm not going to fire my best employees! Maybe you did lose your job because you weren't up to snuff!

The bottom line is this: the president is pushing this agenda. That America is somehow a mean-spirited country without opportunity and we're going backwards. When, in fact, every single year we get closer to that "more perfect union" that we strive for.

[On Obama's prediction that income inequality will increase and "social tensions will rise as various groups fight to hold on to what they have"]

In my mind -- and I hate to say this -- I think President Obama would love to see civil unrest in this country very much like the Arab Spring. I think what he's trying to do is to spark this revolution against the wealthy, against the "One Percent" who are holding us back, who are hoarding this money,

You know Democrats are trotting out this statistic about how much money the top one percent controlled in 1979 versus how much they control now. Well, it's quadrupled, as if it's the same group of people who've been greedy with money and greedy with opportunity.

You know who it is? It's a kid like Lebron James, who was in the bottom one percent and is now in the top one percent. And his salary skews that top one percent to make it look 400 percent better. What that number shows is that opportunities for America... not the bad part of America, the good part of America.

One of Obama's heroes was a man named Saul Alinsky. Community organizing got its start in Chicago under the direction of Alinsky, an avowed Marxist. Alinsky believed that poverty was the result of political inequalities.

Sound familiar?

What isn't widely known is that Alinsky also envisioned a power-grab by the "have-nots" of society, who would form massive, grassroots coalitions that would defeat the rich and redistribute their possessions.

An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released earlier this week revealed that "since January 2009, people’s opinion of race relations in this country has plummeted by 25 percentage points". Barack Obama and Eric Holder -- and their politicization of a single case in Florida involving a Hispanic and a Black -- have done their level best to foment anxiety.

If Payne is right, we are witnessing a modern-day Alinsky set the stage for civil unrest.

"Anthony Weiner Is A Sexual Predator Luring His Victims"

That's how Nik Richie describes would-be New York City mayor Anthony Weiner (NSFW):

My source is solid. She really thought Anthony Weiner and her were in love, they spoke on the phone daily multiple times a day for 6 months. Anthony Weiner played with her emotions and mind. Most calls were phone sex. He promised her many things including a condo in Chicago (1235 S. Prairie Ave) where they were planning to meet up to have sex. Anthony Weiner has a shoe fetish, particularly heels.

I know my source wasn’t the only girl he lured online (poked). Ladies if you exchanged sexual pictures with Anthony Weiner aka Carlos Danger please come forward.

Anthony Weiner is one very sick individual. These exchanges are said to have occurred after his first lewd photo scandal had cost him his job in Congress and nearly his marriage.

It's saying something that Democrat Ted Kennedy killed a woman, Democrat Barney Frank had a homosexual brothel operating out of his residence, Democrat Gerry Studds admitted to buggering underage pages, and Democrat Bill Clinton had a series of women accuse of him sexual battery -- and none lost their jobs as a result. So Weiner has that going for him.

Also: Eagle-eyed blogger Peter Ingemi noticed the Politico reference in the messages and started inquiring: is it typical for Democrats to offer gigs at Politico as a reward for favors?

Try and contain your shock.

40 Economic Factoids Ya Ain't Ever Gonna See in Legacy Media

Guest post by Michael Snyder

#1 According to the World Bank, U.S. GDP accounted for 31.8 percent of all global economic activity in 2001. That number dropped to 21.6 percent in 2011.

#2 The United States was once ranked #1 in the world in GDP per capita. Today we have slipped to #14.

#3 The United States has fallen in the global economic competitiveness rankings compiled by the World Economic Forum for four years in a row.

#4 Since the year 2000, the size of the U.S. national debt has grown by more than 11 trillion dollars.

#5 Back in the year 2000, our trade deficit with China was 83 billion dollars. Last year, it was 315 billion dollars.

#6 In the year 2000, about 17 million Americans were employed in manufacturing. Today, only about 12 million Americans are employed in manufacturing.

#7 The United States has lost more than 56,000 manufacturing facilities since 2001.

#8 The United States has lost a staggering 32 percent of its manufacturing jobs since the year 2000.

#9 Between December 2000 and December 2010, 38 percent of the manufacturing jobs in Ohio were lost, 42 percent of the manufacturing jobs in North Carolina were lost and 48 percent of the manufacturing jobs in Michigan were lost.

#10 Back in 1998, the United States had 25 percent of the world’s high-tech export market and China had just 10 percent. Today, China’s high-tech exports are more than twice the size of U.S. high-tech exports.

President Trayvon Soothes Racial Tensions With Historic, Healing, Lincoln-esque Speech

Earlier today, weighing in on the Zimmerman verdict for the first time, President Barack Obama said that "Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago." That is, if Trayvon had led a childhood of luxury in Hawaii and then somehow attended Columbia and Harvard using financial means yet undiscovered by modern media.

Bryan Preston:

Barack Obama had a moment when he could have stood above all the factions in the black community, indeed all the factions arguing over the verdict in that trial. He could have spoken to and for more than just one American community. He chose instead to insert himself and race into the story from the world’s largest bully pulpit, while refusing to use that bully pulpit to stand up forcefully for the rule of law.

Mark Levin:

Ronald Reagan always talked up America, never apologizing for it, but reminding everyone all over the world what a great country we have. But Obama never does that, he says, even though he’s traveled all over the country and has seen what a great people we have. Levin points out that Obama doesn’t sound like a man who is honored to lead America as her president. Instead he has a chip on his shoulder and is intent to balkanize America with speeches like he made today on race.

Instead of acting like a president, he acts like Al Sharpton – all the while more and more black teens can’t get a job and more black adults are rolling on to welfare. Yet no one ever talks about it. Ever.

Ace of Spades:

On Twitter, I challenged Buzz Feed's Ben Smith, who had claimed Obama always spoke "incredibly" about race, to apprise me as to what specific insights and memorable sentences he recalls from any Obama utterance, whether on race or any other subject; as of this 6 o'clock deadline, he has yet to respond to me. Almost as if it's unfair to ask for evidence of the Lightbringer's alleged eloquence and perspicacity.

Dave Blount:

By whipping up mobs that are already out of control, while simultaneously denouncing stand-your-ground laws that had nothing to do with the Trayvon Martin shooting, Obama appears to be setting up a row of dominos that will inevitably fall when one of the sociopathic punks he so openly identifies with attacks someone with a gun who defends himself. The aftermath will be Newtown + St. Skittles, hyped to the last extreme of absurdity by the cultural Marxists who run the media, with the short-term goal of attacking our fundamental right of self-defense and the long-term goal of creating a social divide so deep that liberals will be able to keep exploiting it indefinitely.

A leader attempts to unite his people. A ruler divides and conquers.

Dymphna asks, "Why Is Obama Trying to Start a Race War?":

Perhaps because there is a disappointing lack of widespread “burn-baby-burn-and-bust-me-some-cracker-heads” outbreaks across the country, our President chose to make a surprise speech today. That is, the occasion was a surprise, but the speech was the usual narcissistic insertion of himself into the story in order to generate a crisis. The man loves crises but mostly all he’s managed to create are scandals. And they go on and on. So he needs the race riots he keeps begging for ... Pray that we survive the power of the vile hatred in evidence at the White House. For those of you who don’t pray, please keep your fingers crossed for our country.

This may well be a turning point. If this evil plan works, there won’t be a way back. Obama burns bridges; he has no skill at building them and doesn’t want to learn.

USA Today asks: After Zimmerman verdict, can nation heal the racial divide we in the media created?

That's my paraphrase: the real headline represents the Dumbest Question Ever:

Charles Krauthammer dissects the idiocy of USA Today's question:

What's interesting here is that we saw every minute of the trial. There was nothing secret, there was nothing hidden. So, for all of those who want to make this into a racial incident, an example of racial prejudice, answer this: where was the racial taint in those hours and hours of that trial? Where was the bias? And what parts of the trial were not fair because the victim was African-American?

The way that these demagogues are comparing this incident to Emmett Till, who was lynched in the south half a century ago I think is a travesty and a desecration of the memory of Emmett Till who was a victim of real brutal racism in a country that at the time had legalized racism. Here was a trial that everybody watched and that was without any doubt a fair trial.

I think the media's attempt to turn this into a racial incident is disgraceful because the paradigm is white on black, except that Zimmerman is Hispanic. So, CNN and others had to invent a new category, the 'white Hispanic.' Up until now we had never heard of that. Why? Presumably because one of Zimmerman's parents is white. Well, that also applies to the president of the United States. Which means is he a white African-American? This is an absurdity and it's also a disgrace.

The media -- including the extremist known as Al Sharpton -- have behaved in as loathsome a manner as I can ever recall.

The Cover Photo Rolling Stone Should Have Run

You may have seen or heard about the latest cover of Rolling Stone magazine. It is intentionally designed to glamorize the scumbag terror bomber who I refuse to name.

Celebs have taken to Twitter to call for a boycott of Rolling Stone, and now CVS is joining everyone with an ounce of decency in condemning the magazine’s rock-star treatment of accused Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The company posted this message on its Facebook page:

CVS/pharmacy has decided not to sell the current issue of Rolling Stone featuring a cover photo of the Boston Marathon bombing suspect. As a company with deep roots in New England and a strong presence in Boston, we believe this is the right decision out of respect for the victims of the attack and their loved ones.

CVS received numerous requests to boycott the Rolling Stone issue.

The pathetic hacks who run this joke of a magazine could have, of course, gone with a different photo.

These are the innocent victims who will soon be dead or crippled, including an eight-year old boy (circled in blue) happily clinging to a rail watching the race with wonderment. And Rolling Stone's hero, the terrorist throwback from the seventh century (circled in red) has just dropped off his bomb.

You disgust me, Rolling Stone. You fill every molecule of my body with revulsion.

TRAYVON-INSPIRED RIOTS KILL 3 JOURNALISTS: Richard Cohen, Maureen Dowd, and Chris Matthews burned alive

Irony:

Now, in real life this horrific incident didn't happen.

But the point is, it could.

The same man hailed by journalists like these as the first post-racial president is a divider, not a uniter. He sows discontent, hatred, revenge, intolerance and unrest.

His attorney general has consistently lied to the public, lied to Congress, and helped foment race hatred.

And men like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, clinging to a picture of America many decades old, spread prejudice, bigotry and anxiety.

Black versus Hispanic. Hispanic versus White. Black versus Asian. Christian versus Muslim. Rich versus poor. Overweight versus underweight. Women versus Men.

Everywhere you look, the country has been divided by this man and his cronies into segments. Not Americans. Segments. Segments to be pandered to, to be agitated, to be bribed, to be rewarded, to be punished, to be incited.

And the civil society decays like a rotten tooth.

The irony is, media hacks like the ones mentioned above never saw it coming. Too blinkered, too stupid, too twisted, too ideological, they and their ilk will suffer with the rest of society as America unravels before their dumbfounded, stupefied eyes.

Latest Cover of New York Magazine Frightening Women, Children and Brothel Owners

I refer, of course, to this gem:

With disgraced politicians Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer running for mayor and comptroller of the big apple, New York Magazine decided to feature both of them on the cover.

The effect is rather… unsettling.

I can almost hear Igor in the background saying yes master…

Suddenly I don't feel like eating.

Trayvon Martin, Burglary Tools, and PCP-style Drug Cocktails

National media ignored some of the most significant aspects of the tragic Martin-Zimmerman case, among them Martin's suspected involvement with burglary, PCP-like drug cocktails, and/or drug dealing.

Burglary Tools:
Trayvon Martin’s phone was full of text messages, pictures and videos suggestive of drugs, violence and criminal behavior. [According to the Miami Herald,] Trayvon Martin was on his third suspension from school [and t]here is evidence Trayvon Martin had burglarized homes and/or school lockers:

In October, a school police investigator said he saw Trayvon on the school surveillance camera in an unauthorized area “hiding and being suspicious.” Then he said he saw Trayvon mark up a door with “W.T.F” — an acronym for “what the f—.” The officer said he found Trayvon the next day and went through his book bag in search of the graffiti marker. Instead the officer reported he found women’s jewelry and a screwdriver that he described as a “burglary tool” ...

Word of the incident came as the family’s lawyer acknowledged that the boy was suspended in February for getting caught with an empty bag with traces of marijuana [and his] backpack contained 12 pieces of jewelry, in addition to a watch and a large flathead screwdriver, according to the report, which described silver wedding bands and earrings with diamonds. Trayvon was asked if the jewelry belonged to his family or a girlfriend. “Martin replied it’s not mine. A friend gave it to me,” he responded, according to the report. Trayvon declined to name the friend. Trayvon was not disciplined because of the discovery, but was instead suspended for graffiti, according to the report. School police impounded the jewelry and sent photos of the items to detectives at Miami-Dade police for further investigation...

...That suspension was followed four months later by another one in February, in which Trayvon was caught with an empty plastic bag with traces of marijuana in it. A schools police report obtained by The Miami Herald specifies two items: a bag with marijuana residue and a “marijuana pipe.”

Drug Use:

There are a series of compelling articles on the web that describe Martin's alleged abuse of a powerful, home-made PCP-like drug called "Lean" (also known as "Skittles"). Its reported side-effects can include breaks with reality, extreme paranoia and fits of violence.

One of the most painstakingly documented summaries is excerpted below:

AWESOME: San Francisco TV Station KTVU Does Itself Proud...

...with some amazing, original reporting on the tragic KAL airliner crash:

On today’s Noon newscast on KTVU, the station claimed it had “just learned the names of the 4 pilots on board” Asiana flight 214 which crashed last Saturday. But the station was given bad information that made it all the way into the newscast. If you read the names it becomes immediately clear this is a joke, which went unnoticed by the newsroom, producers and the anchor.

You’ll recall earlier this week, KTVU touted its coverage as being not only first, but “100% accurate.”

“Being first on air and on every platform in all aspects of our coverage was a great accomplishment, but being 100% accurate, effectively using our great sources and social media without putting a single piece of erroneous information on our air, is what we are most proud of as a newsroom,” said News Director Lee Rosenthal at the time...

Heh.
