A day late, a dollar short and plenty stupid

When will Harry Reid apologize for his claim last year that "the war is lost"?

Or, better yet, resign?

As for HuffPo genius Taylor "the truth will set you free" Marsh, who said:

Yes the war is lost... We will not apologize nor amend the remark. The war is lost and if you want to know why look no further than the president of the United States George W. Bush. If you don't like the truth don't yell at us. Take your anger out on him...

But the truth is no longer allowed in America, so amend we will.

Well, to be fair, no one's ever heard of him or her, so we'll give it a pass.

But Harry Reid? He's an unquestionable disgrace who should be jeered out of office and rolled out of town on a handcar.

More proof: Saddam Hussein had operational ties to Al Qaeda

In 2002 Saddam Hussein's intelligence organization wrote a letter to Al Qaeda chieftain Ayman al-Zawahiri requesting a meeting regarding the launch of terrorist operations. The invaluable MEMRI translation service reports

The Kurdish daily Kurdistani Nwe has published a 2002 letter from the Iraqi presidency that it says proves that there was cooperation between the regime of Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda.

The letter, which appeared on the paper's front page, was published by the intelligence apparatus of the Iraqi presidency and discussed an intention to meet with Ayman Al-Zawahiri in order to examine a plan drawn up by the Iraqi presidency to carry out a "revenge operation" in Saudi Arabia.

The lies about Iraq promoted by the hard left bank of American politics continue to unravel.

Put bluntly, there were proven ties between Hussein's Iraq and Al-Qaeda.

And even the left-leaning mainstream media is reporting that the longstanding 'Bush lied' theme was as phony as the bogus Obama presidential seal.

Disgraced Senator Harry "The War is Lost" Reid could not be reached for comment.

2004: WMDs! Mission Accomplished! Bush is a nuclear moron!

2006: We're losing the war! Get. out. now!

2008: The war's too expensive! The Middle East ain't strategic! Let Iran take over control of the gulf!

Books on my Amazon wish-list

I didn't get these for the holidays, so they are still on my wish list.

The protaganist of Harry Reid's novel is a Senator that receives a $1 million windfall in a land sale related to a controversial rezoning effort.

Rep. William Jefferson's complex, multi-faceted story is worthy of a John Grisham novel: a web of front companies, thousands of dollars stored in a freezer, and hundreds of thousands "sloshing through bank accounts."

Sandy Berger's exciting tale reads like a spy story: top-secret documents left at a "dead drop," a commission investigating a massive terrorist attack, and a coverup of extraordinary proportions.

Hillary Clinton's rags-to-riches story describes a working girl's savvy investment of $1,000; and how -- through determination and sheer grit -- she was able to turn that into nearly $100,000 in just a few months' time. It's inspirational material of the highest caliber!

Ted Kennedy's classic tale of a party, a girl, a bridge, and a soggy morning-after needs no introduction.

Once upon a time in Iraq

Gateway Pundit highlights a beautiful event.

The first snow in 100 years fell on Baghdad this morning. Residents said it was a sign of peace.

The Guardian reported:

Snow fell on Baghdad today for the first time in living memory, delighting residents who declared it an omen of peace.

"It is the first time we've seen snow in Baghdad," said 60-year-old Hassan Zahar. "We've seen sleet before, but never snow. I looked at the faces of all the people, they were astonished.

"A few minutes ago, I was covered with snowflakes. In my hair, on my shoulders. I invite all the people to enjoy peace, because the snow means peace."

Murtadha Fadhil, who works for the traffic police, huddled under a balcony to keep dry, and declared the snow "a new sign of the new Iraq"... He said the phenomenon was a sign of hope and purity...

But remember, folks, Vladimir Putin is Time's man o' the year -- not General David Petraeus.

Update: Don Surber: "Well, Harry Reid was right when he said hell would freeze over before we won in Iraq. It froze. We won."

Democratic Report Card: is there such a grade as an "F+"?

AJacksonian has issued a thoroughly documented report card for the 110th Congress and the Democratic Agenda.

...here is the group in question and their promises that they wish to be held to:

...This is the Majority in the US Congress, the august body that has been in session since mid-January of this year after winning a bare majority to get its candidates in office. As they came in espousing benchmarks for everything, it is time to apply their own benchmarks upon them to see just how they are doing...

Hint: it doesn't end well for the party of Pelosi and Reid.

Democratic-approved Interrogation Methods

After three days of screaming headlines about the CIA destroying videotapes in 2005 of the "harsh" interrogation of two terrorists, it now comes to light that in 2002 key members of Congress were fully briefed by the CIA about those interrogation techniques, including waterboarding. One member of that Congressional delegation was the future House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi.

In all, the CIA provided Congress with some 30 briefings on waterboarding before it became a public issue.

Given a proclivity for changing their minds on matters of national security (consider waterboarding, the Iraq War, or Alcee Hastings), Democrats have released a list of approved interrogation methods. Interrogators may:

Tickle with a feather (if tickling is performed by a child)

Allow the detainee to watch only Gilligan's Island re-runs

Limit dessert selection to Apple Pie Cobbler

Cancel the detainee's Delta Skymiles (although interrogators may not alter the prisoner's Medallion status)

Have Michael Bolton perform in the detainee's cell

Restrict club selection to irons at the Gitmo golf course

Prevent thermostat that controls air-conditioning from being set lower than 75°

Embroider prayer mats with tiny pictures of George W. Bush

* * *

Keep it up, terrorists, and the Democrats'll really start playing rough. Can you say "Richard Simmons?"

Operation Starfish

On July 9, 1962, a high-altitude nuclear test named Starfish Prime was conducted by the United States military above Johnston Island in the Pacific Ocean. Its unexpected electromagnetic pulse (EMP) effects caused disruptions in electrical systems and equipment in Honolulu 700 miles away.

The EMP shut down long-distance telephone calls and disabled three satellites in low earth orbit. Radiation resulting from the test later destroyed a total of seven satellites by knocking out their solar arrays or electronics.

A massive current of EMP could be unleashed with catastrophic effect on the United States if a nuclear weapon were detonated high above the earth. The energy of this pulse would disable and possibly destroy any electronic device and power grid in line-of-sight of the detonation.

Cars.

Buses.

Trucks.

Planes.

Trains.

Any vehicle with an electronic ignition or engine control system could be rendered useless.

The lifeblood of America -- food, energy, goods and services -- would be gridlocked.

The power grid: knocked out.

The phone system: gone.

Several years ago, an Iranian military journal publicly considered the idea of launching an electromagnetic pulse attack as the key to defeating the world's lone superpower.

Yet, Copperhead Democrats call the threat of Iran "hype" and "fear".

Frank Gaffney, author of Warfooting, states "If [EMP] hits the electrical grids of the United States... if it hits electronic devices, computers, chips of various kinds--the things, in other words, that power our society--they're likely to be severely damaged, if not destroyed."

This would wreak havoc on the country's electronic systems, and plunge much--if not all--of the continental U.S. into a pre-industrial state. A blue-ribbon commission created by Congress confirmed this danger in a report submitted in August 2004.

At a height of 300 miles, the entire continental United States would be exposed to EMP attack, along with parts of Canada and Mexico. Congress was warned of Iran's plans by Peter Pry, a senior staffer with the Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse Attack in a hearing of the subcommittee on terrorism, technology and homeland security.

Pry pointed out the Iranians have been testing mid-air detonations of their Shahab-3 medium-range missile over the Caspian Sea. The missiles were fired from ships.

"A nuclear missile concealed in the hold of a freighter would give Iran or terrorists the capability to perform an EMP attack against the United States homeland without developing an ICBM and with some prospect of remaining anonymous," said Pry. "Iran's Shahab-3 medium range missile mentioned earlier is a mobile missile and small enough to be transported in the hold of a freighter. We cannot rule out that Iran, the world's leading sponsor of international terrorism might provide terrorists with the means to execute an EMP attack against the United States."

Lowell Wood, acting chairman of the commission, said yesterday that such an attack – by Iran or some other actor – could cripple the U.S. by knocking out electrical power, computers, circuit boards controlling most automobiles and trucks, banking systems, communications and food and water supplies.

"No one can say just how long systems would be down," he said. "It could be weeks, months or even years." Wood said he could think of no other reason Iran would be experimenting with high-altitude detonations of missiles besides planning for an EMP attack.

One nuclear weapon. One missile. One motivated maniac.

Those are the realities of the situation, no matter how the Copperhead Democrats try to spin the NIE.

Senator Harry Reid vs. General David Petraeus

The Democratic leader noted that ...the surge has not been successful in allowing Iraqis to reach national reconciliation.

However, Reid acknowledged that the surge might be responsible for reducing the violence in the war-torn country. He was careful not to give the strategy too much credit and instead blasted Republicans for being “committed to an open-ended war in Iraq.”

“They’re boasting now about, if things work out well by next summer — that is, the summer of 2008 — the war will be six and half years in endurance [sic] at that time, they’re talking about maybe we can start drawing down troops...

"The surge hasn't accomplished its goals," Reid said. "... We're involved, still, in an intractable civil war."

Reid's comments show that Democratic leaders in Washington may not be on the same page as their rank-and-file members when it comes to interpreting results on the ground in Iraq. Reid, as a leader, still needs to maintain some negotiating leverage as Democrats try to figure out a way to give President Bush some $50 billion in temporary war finding while at least attaching some strings to the money so it's not a blank check for the war...
Q: What was the key? I remember your very contentious report in front of Congress. There was very great skepticism about the surge. Too little, too late was the predominant criticism. What do you think was the tipping point?

GEN PETRAEUS: There have been a number of factors... The popular rejection of Al-Qaeda in Anbar was a catalyst. It gave other Iraqis an example of the fact that they could also reject this extremist form of Islam that is not Iraqi in all the violence... There is a momentum and the momemtum starts to have a positive effect.

Q: Your commanders though are suggesting that if they have not already won, they are winning the battle of Baghdad.

GEN PETRAEUS: There is no question that there has been impressive and enormous progress made in Baghdad by levels in attack, by civilian deaths, by coalition Iraqi security force casualties, you name it. There has been improvement... I would not have recommended what I did in September, if I would not have projected what we are now seeing in Iraq...

...This is a team effort. This is the new greatest generation of American soldier, sailor, air force, marines, coast guard and we have civilians that are out here in huge numbers as well... Our country should be very proud on the way our services have changed during the course of this."

Our country -- excluding the Copperhead Democrats -- that is.

I wonder which the average American trusts more: Harry Reid or General David Petraeus?

And suffice it to say that Reid and the Copperhead Democrats have left quite an impression on the U.S. military. That should work out well for them in 2008.

Outrage: Reid withholds funds for successful anti-IED program

Military wife Amy Proctor shines a spotlight on Harry's Reid's despicable actions. The Senate majority leader is withholding funds from a US military that has turned the tide in Iraq -- including a program largely responsible for defeating IEDs, a leading killer of the troops.

Military reporters who are also active duty soldiers report military news on the Pentagon Channel. This report focuses on Congress’ refusal to fund the military. This story looks much different through the eyes of a soldier than from the mouth of a Katie Couric or Wolf Blitzer.

If Congress does not provide the supplemental funding bill that the President will sign, money for defeating the largest killer of American troops in the Global War on Terror will run out for the Joint Improvised Explosive Devise Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) on December 1st.

GEN (Ret) Meigs (Director of JIEDDO) says the funding crisis comes at a time when IED attacks have dropped 55% since their high in June this year. And average daily attacks are down 42%. However, without an approved funding bill, the organization only has enough money to remain operational through April 2008.

Democrats are pulling out all the stops in their attempts to turn victory in Iraq into defeat. Why are charges of treason not out of the question for Democrats like Reid?

The United States of America vs. the MSM and Hollywood

Gateway Pundit has the latest numbers:

Violence in Iraq is down by 50%.
Civilian casualties in Iraq are down by 60%.
Baghdad casualties are down by 75%.
Basra violence is down by 90%.
Terrorist attacks in Iraq are down by 80%.

Even AFP is running positive stories on life in Iraq, so you'd think our mainstream media would've started to get the picture. But let's not hurry them.

"Even two or three months ago we would have been afraid to come here at night," said 20-year-old Hussein Salah, an off-duty soldier, slurping a milkshake with his wife, Shihad, at the Mishmesha (apricot) juice bar in Baghdad's relatively safe Karrada suburb.

"Now we sometimes sit outside here till one or two in the morning. It is quite safe. The security situation is vastly improved," said Salah, the orange light from a nearby flashing palm alternatively brightening and dimming his clean-shaven face.

Of course, Hollywood is sticking with their bankruptcy-inducing meme: the U.S. military is a bunch of bloodthirsthy, homicidal rapists. Michael Medved's review of Re****ed (you see, I've redacted its name) is short and to the point:

It could be the worst movie I've ever seen ... "[T]he out and out worst, most disgusting, most hateful, most incompetent, most revolting, most loathsome, most reprehensible cinematic work I have ever encountered. ... It portrays the members of our Marine Corps in the most disgusting way imaginable... This film is an atrocity. It is zero stars... I honestly was close to vomiting when I saw the film... It is a slander on the United States of America... Everyone associated with this film ought to be ashamed... Will it inspire future terrorists? Of course it will!

Back in the real world, TigerHawk compares 1864 and 2008:

In 1864 Americans were fed up with the Civil War, in which there were days on which more soldiers were killed than have died in four years of the Iraq war. "Mr. Lincoln is already beaten," wrote Horace Greeley, perhaps the leading journalist. And three months before the election Republican leaders told president Lincoln that he had no hope of reelection. As Peter Wallison of AEI recently recalled, the Democratic platform denounced "four years of failure" in the war effort and Gen. George B. McClellan, the Democratic candidate opposing Lincoln recommended making peace on Southern terms.

But on September 1 the news reached Washington that Atlanta had fallen to the Union army, and on election day it appeared as if the North was on the way to victory. Lincoln was decisively reelected. And, according to historian Allan Nevins, "The damage done to the Democratic Party by the platform could not be undone. Its … stigmatization of the heroic war effort as worthless gave the Northern millions an image of the Democratic Party they could never forget….and would cost the party votes for a generation."

Remember Senator Harry Reid's infamous proclamation declaring that "the war is lost"?

My prediction is that after a GOP rout in 2008, Mr. Reid will no longer have a job as Senate Majority Leader.
