SOMEONE PINCH ME: I can support Democrat Hank Johnson 100 percent on his latest bill

Under President Obama -- who famously claimed (twice) that America needed a "civilian national security force just as powerful as the military" -- law enforcement agencies around the country have become the paramilitary wings of local governments.

Nowhere has this fact become more obvious than in Ferguson, Missouri in the aftermath of the shooting of a young black man.

Now, Democrat Hank Johnson is calling for a demilitarization of law enforcement.

A Democratic congressman plans to introduce a bill to restrict a Defense Department program that provides machine guns and other surplus military equipment for free to local law enforcement agencies across the country.

Democratic Rep. Hank Johnson said Thursday that the death of an unarmed teenager who was shot by a police officer in a St. Louis suburb highlights the need for the legislation, which has been in the works for months. The bill comes as members of Congress have called for the Justice Department to investigate the shooting of a black teen by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.

Police in riot gear and military garb have clashed nightly with protesters since Aug. 9 shooting of Michael Brown and at times have trained weapons on them from armored trucks.

A spokesman for the Defense Logistics Agency, the government's combat logistics support agency, said the Ferguson Police Department has been part of the surplus equipment program. It received two tactical vehicles — both Humvees — as well as a generator and a trailer and may have received other equipment, DLA spokesman Joe Yoswa said.

Johnson said city streets should be a place for businesses and families, "not tanks and M16s." He said a Pentagon program that transfers surplus military equipment to state and local law enforcement has led to police agencies resembling paramilitary forces.

Dear President Obama: American citizens are not ISIS. Save the impressive displays of force for the Islamonazis, okay?

5 Quotes That Capture the Spirit of the Day

Selected by our summer intern, Biff Spackle (@BiffSpackle):

Timothy H. Lee:

After inheriting a stabilizing Iraq in the aftermath of a Bush Administration troop surge (which Obama claimed in 2007 couldn't succeed), Obama's decisions have resulted in today's ghoulish genocide and deepening chaos. Per habit, therefore, he now reverts to scapegoating others and pleading that he's little more than a helpless bystander to inconvenient world events. This from a man who in 2011 practically claimed to have fired the shot that felled Osama bin Laden.

David A. Lieb:

The unarmed teenager whose fatal shooting by police ignited days of heated protests in suburban St. Louis was suspected of stealing cigars and pushing a clerk at a nearby convenience store earlier that day, police said Friday... [Michael] Brown and his friend, Dorian Johnson, were suspected of taking a box of cigars from a store in Ferguson that morning. Jackson said Wilson, along with other officers, was called to the area after a 911 call reporting a "strong-arm" robbery just before noon.

Lachlan Markay:

The top Democrat in the House of Representatives [Nancy Pelosi] steered more than a billion dollars in subsidies to a light rail project that benefitted a company run by a high-dollar Democratic donor and in which her husband is a major investor... Pelosi’s tireless advocacy for federal support for San Francisco’s light rail system has come under scrutiny for potentially enriching another liberal billionaire, hedge fund manager Tom Steyer.

Jeffrey Lord:

What are Americans seeing here? What do the rise of ISIS in Iraq, the return of the squeegee men in New York, the murder numbers out of Chicago, the endless stories on health care losses, IRS bureaucrat Lois Lerner — what do all of these events have in common?

This is the fulfillment of the liberal worldview crashing in on itself. A view of utopia — all of it. Every last bit of it. It was never real — it could never be real.

Jim Treacher:

You think you’ve got problems? Put yourself in President Barack Obama’s shoes for a minute: Everybody’s mean to you, bad stuff keeps happening even though none of it is your fault, and you never get to do anything you want to do. It seriously sucks, dude! ... Has any other president in American history ever endured such suffering? That’s a rhetorical question. Of course not.

Gang Violence May Destroy Mexico's Shale Oil Bonanza

By Nick Cunningham

Violence in Mexico could thwart hopes of a budding shale boom, as oil and gas companies operating in Texas may think twice about moving south of the border.

Mexico holds an estimated 545 trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable shale gas and 13 billion barrels of shale oil, but progress in developing those resources has been slow.

The obstacles to kick-starting Mexico’s shale industry have dampened the once lively enthusiasm surrounding Mexico’s historic energy reform. Mexico passed legislation last year that opened up the country’s oil and gas sector to private investment, ending a 75-year monopoly by state-owned Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex).

But the secondary laws that the government must pass to actually implement the legal framework for oil and gas development are proving much more contentious.

Political disputes over what could be 21 separate laws have thus far delayed passage, threatening to push back Mexican President Enirque Pena Nieto’s goal of producing 3 million barrels of oil per day by 2018. That would be roughly a 25 percent increase from the current output level of 2.4 million barrels per day, but it is looking increasingly difficult to achieve.

“We can increase, of course, but not enough to arrive at 3 million [b/d],” Fluvio Ruiz Alarcon, an independent board member at Pemex, told Platts on June 24 at a Wilson Center event in Washington, D.C. “I'm sure we're going to produce over 3 million [b/d] but not by 2018. Maybe 2020, but not before,” he added.

Even if the country’s congress can reach an agreement and move forward with the energy reform, there are other obstacles.

In order to access the potentially abundant oil and gas from Mexican shale, the government will need to rely upon the private sector. Under the energy reform, Pemex is given first refusal over any projects – meaning that it can keep the assets it really wants, but allows the rest to go to bidding for private companies. Pemex will likely stick with its wells that are already producing, and leave drilling new shale wells to incoming private companies.

However, many areas in the Burgos Basin – which lies just south of the rich Eagle Ford formation in Texas – are suffering from intense gang violence. Bloomberg News reported on the conditions in Tamaulipas, a state in eastern Mexico, which at times resembles a “war zone.” A power vacuum left over by the arrest of the leaders of the Zetas and Gulf Cartels last year has the eastern coast dealing with heightened violence – shootings along highways and burned down buildings are commonplace as rival drug gangs jockey for territory.

Further north, shootings and kidnappings plague Highway 2, which runs parallel to the border with the United States.

The violence poses an immediate threat to the oil companies working there. The Mexican Army is now escorting workers of Weatherford International, an oilfield services firm, to and from their drill sites after a drug gang shot up a hotel where the workers were staying.

Aside from violence, theft of oil and gas by drug cartels poses another threat to companies. In 2013, Mexican gangs stole around $790 million worth of fuel, which is siphoned off from pipelines and smuggled.

GREAT NEWS: Obama Administration Says We're Not at War With ISIL!

Denial: it's not just a river in Egypt. Here's the feckless nincompoop and national security "adviser" Ben Rhodes writing at the White House website.

7. Is ISIL more dangerous than al-Qaeda right now?

While both are terrorist forces, they have different ambitions. Al-Qaeda’s principal ambition is to launch attacks against the west and U.S. homeland. That’s the direct threat that we have taken direct action against for many years. Right now, ISIL’s primary focus is consolidating territory in the Middle East region to establish their own Islamic State. So they’re different organizations with different objectives.

8. Are we at war with ISIL? Will we be sending troops back to Iraq?

No. There is no U.S. military solution to the larger situation in Iraq. The United States’ chief goals are to protect our personnel and facilities, and to prevent a potential act of genocide. That is the scope of these operations. As the President said, we will support Iraqis as they take the fight to these terrorists, but no American combat troops will be returning to fight in Iraq.

Both answers are flatly untrue. ISIL has stated unequivocally that it is coming for Americans in America.

As for the second assertion, gee, Ben, while the White House may not be at war with ISIL, I can assure you that ISIL is at war with us.

Yes, that's the White House.

PLEASE, PRESIDENT JARRETT: Obliterate the barbarians who would "raise the flag of Allah in the White House"

By Investor's Business Daily

War On Terror: Having ignored Iraqi pleas for air strikes in ISIL's infancy, when the terrorists could have been decimated, the administration ignores the Kurdish peshmerga plea for the same American weapons that ISIL has.

Watching the modest airstrikes on ISIL forces, we are reminded of Secretary of State John Kerry's promise that any military action in Syria would be "unbelievably small." As it turned out, it was also nonexistent, and the carnage continues in the country where ISIL formed and trained under our watchful and indifferent eyes.

The targeted airstrikes ordered by President Obama last week near the Kurdish city of Erbil in northern Iraq, where we have a consulate, as ISIL forces lay siege to thousands of hungry Yazidi and Christian refugees in the mountains of northern Iraq, are welcome.

But they fall far short of what can be or could have been done if we really wanted to stop ISIL, considered by many a greater long-term threat than al-Qaida.

"The situation near Erbil was becoming more dire than anyone expected. We didn't want another Benghazi," an administration official told the New York Times. The reference was to the deaths of four Americans in the 2012 terrorist attack on our mission in Libya, where another gathering terrorist storm was ignored and a rescue or relief attempt was never made in time.

On Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham warned that ISIL threatens not just Iraqis, but also Americans here. Obama's strikes are insufficient to turn back ISIL and are meant just "to avoid a bad news story on his watch."

Graham envisions "an American city in flames" someday if the ISIL caliphate established in parts of Syria and northern Iraq becomes a new haven for global terrorism. Certainly there's already a price being paid for our past indifference to the growing ISIL threat.

CNN: Nobel Peace Prize Winner Obama "Powerless" to Deal With the World Chaos His Policies Have Sown

CNN -- yep, it's still in business -- says that Obama's multiple policy failures on every front are not his fault.

As we head closer to the November elections it’s clear that Obama’s continued massive foreign policy implosion is already having a deleterious effect on Democrat’s hopes, and unless there’s a sudden blossoming of Middle East peace, it will probably increase going forward...
This morning on CNN's Inside Politics, Politico's Manu Raju said that the president seems "powerless" to deal with the chaos in the world, which is "putting the Senate at risk" for the Democrats.

Gee, who could have predicted that a back-bencher state senator -- weaned on the philosophies of Marx and Alinsky and with literally zero executive experience -- would be an utter and complete disaster?

Oh, wait: several of us did, back in the summer of 2008.

NYT: Fear of "Another Benghazi" Political Debacle, Not Genocide, Drove Obama to Call For ISIS Airstrikes

The New York Times reports that it was not genocide in Iraq, it was not a humanitarian catastrophe, it was not to protect human lives that forced Obama's hand in ordering airstrikes against ISIS; it was all about politics.

On Wednesday evening, moments after finishing a summit meeting with African leaders at the State Department, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff delivered a stark message to President Obama as they rode back to the White House in Mr. Obama’s limousine.

The Kurdish capital, Erbil, once an island of pro-American tranquillity, was in the path of rampaging Sunni militants, the chairman, Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, told the president. And to the west, the militants had trapped thousands of members of Iraqi minority groups on a barren mountaintop, with dwindling supplies, raising concerns about a potential genocide.

With American diplomats and business people in Erbil suddenly at risk, at the American Consulate and elsewhere, Mr. Obama began a series of intensive deliberations that resulted, only a day later, in his authorizing airstrikes on the militants, as well as humanitarian airdrops of food and water to the besieged Iraqis.

Looming over that discussion, and the decision to return the United States to a war Mr. Obama had built his political career disparaging, was the specter of an earlier tragedy: the September 2012 attack on the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, which killed four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, and has become a potent symbol of weakness for critics of the president...

...As the tension mounted in Washington, a parallel drama was playing out in Erbil. Kurdish forces who had been fighting the militants in three nearby Christian villages abruptly fell back toward the gates of the city, fanning fears that the city might soon fall. By Thursday morning, people were thronging the airport, desperate for flights out of town.

“The situation near Erbil was becoming more dire than anyone expected,” said a senior administration official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe the White House’s internal deliberations. “We didn’t want another Benghazi.”

I'd encourage you read the entire article to get a sense of how feckless, incompetent and ideologically twisted this administration is.

As usual, it would appear that Michelle and co-President Valerie Jarrett helped make the decision to act.

Laced throughout the story is the party line among Democrats, which is the following sandwich of sheer, unvarnished idiocy:

ISIS Threatens To Kill Creator of Muslim Superhero Comic Series...

Relayed by Weasel Zippers, an important story from Digital Spy:

Muslim comic creator of The 99 threatened by ISIS

Which is ironic because the creator of The 99 wanted to show the “message of tolerance and peace” in Islam...

The Muslim creator of The 99 comic series has been threatened with death by ISIS.

The jihadist group known by the full name of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant have called for the murder of Nayef Al-Mutawa, who they accuse of mocking Allah.

“Who can kill Nayef Al-Mutawa who makes fun of Allah’s names?” wrote ISIS on Twitter, according to Kuwait Times.

“Whoever finds him, kill him, and he will be rewarded.” […]

The 99 centres around a group of superheroes, each of whom embodies one of the 99 attributes of Allah.

Al-Mutawa created the series with the explicit purpose of celebrating the “messages of tolerance and peace” in Islam.

Which reminds me: I keep checking CAIR's Twitter feed to see if they've denounced the genocide of non-Muslims by the barbaric throwbacks called ISIL. Here's what I've found.

Those are crickets.

15 Photos of the Barbaric Treatment of Iraqi Christians You'll Never See in Legacy Media

Caution: Extremely graphic photos follow, which were provided by Catholic.org. Please use discretion in viewing the photos that follow the warning box.

The Islamic State has warned Christians, possibly for the last time, saying "there is nothing to give them but the sword." Across Northern Iraq, Christians are huddled in refugee camps, trapped in the desert, or trapped in their homes, waiting for death.

A week ago, Christians were warned to either leave the city of Mosul and other areas under Islamic State control, or they would have to pay a tax or be put to death. Today, nobody has heard from those Christians and nobody knows what is happening to them.

Are they being quietly "put to the sword" as this militant strain of Islam asks they be?

The Human Rights Watch reported on July 14 that homes in Mosul were painted with red letters to indicate Christian homes. Other homes of Shiite Muslims were also adorned...

THE UGLY TRUTH: The United Nations Promotes War Crimes

by Anne Bayefsky

As the terrorist organization Hamas breaks yet another ceasefire, it operates with the firm belief that it will be protected on the international stage. That’s because the modern United Nations has become an instrument of war, just seven decades after it was founded “to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.”

It is time to face an ugly truth: The U.N. encourages terrorism. U.N. enablers on the ground in Gaza and U.N. broadcasters in the diplomatic comfort zones of Geneva and New York are partners in incitement to genocide against Israel, the Jewish state.

Think back to Rwanda, where a radio station broadcast that Tutsis were “cockroaches.” The message received was that killing was justified, that Tutsis deserved what they got. Such broadcasts were criminal.

It is time to face an ugly truth: The U.N. encourages terrorism. U.N. enablers on the ground in Gaza and U.N. broadcasters in the diplomatic comfort zones of Geneva and New York are partners in incitement to genocide against Israel, the Jewish state.

The demonization of Israelis by the United Nations is similarly venomous, regardless of the diplomatic facade.

On July 30, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon accused Israel of “attacking sleeping children.” On July 23, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay told the U.N. Human Rights Council that Israel exhibited “disregard for…the right to life.” She alleged that it "was shockingly evident for all to see in the apparent targeting of…children playing.” On July 14, U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl told the press that Israeli crimes included “attacks against...civilians.”

Alleging that Israelis are baby-killers is not some throwaway line. It’s incitement.

"Not since the Civil War has the United States been so politically divided."

By Lawrence Sellin

From whence shall we expect the approach of danger? Shall some trans-Atlantic military giant step the earth and crush us at a blow? Never. All the armies of Europe and Asia...could not by force take a drink from the Ohio River or make a track on the Blue Ridge in the trial of a thousand years. No, if destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men we will live forever or die by suicide. --Abraham Lincoln

In a manner reminiscent of a pubescent potentate, President Barack Obama appears to be both disengaged and autocratic as he recklessly attempts to implement his catastrophic domestic programs and a feckless foreign policy.

The maniacal pursuit of goals so at odds with the country's values and traditions, or even its survival, can only be attributed to a flawed character and an uncompromising devotion to a demonstrably unworkable leftist ideology.

Obama, who often mistakes himself for a messiah, displays many of the characteristics of a narcissist: expecting constant praise and admiration; has a grandiose sense of self-importance; expecting others to go along with his ideas and plans; lacking empathy and taking advantage of others to achieve his own ends; regularly shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes; exaggerating his achievements or talents; thin-skinned, being easily hurt and rejected.

Narcissists are frequently detached from reality, emotionally distant from others and have a deficit of self-awareness.

Hey, Remember When Jimmy Carter Personally Begged a Nazi-Hunter to Go Easy on a Captured SS Executioner?

Good times, good times.

Dan Friedman relays a 2006 article by former Justice Department official Neil Sher, who had played a key role in tracking down Nazis for the DOJ's Office of Special Investigations. Sher was renowned Nazi-hunter who worked in the Reagan administration under Attorney General Ed Meese.

...OSI announced the loss of citizenship and removal from the United States of a former Chicago resident. Martin Bartesch admitted to our office and the court that he had voluntarily joined the Waffen SS and had served in the notorious SS Death’s Head Division at the Mauthausen concentration camp where, at the hands of Bartesch and his cohorts, many thousands of prisoners were gassed, shot, starved and worked to death. He also confessed to having concealed his service at the infamous camp from U.S. immigration officials.

In Bartesch’s case, OSI researchers uncovered iron-clad documentary evidence of his direct, hands-on role in the Nazi genocide. Among the SS documents captured by American forces when they liberated Mauthausen was what we described as the Unnatural Death Book, a register of prisoners killed, along with the identity of the SS guard responsible for the murder.

Next Phase of Middle East Conflict Will Make Gaza Look Like a Picnic

By Alan Caruba

“We have been very clear to the Assad regime, but also to other players on the ground, that a red line for us is we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized. That would change my calculus. That would change my equation.”

Obama said that on August 20, 2012 in remarks to reporters. Realizing that he was close to having to engage in some kind of military action against Bashar Assad, Syria’s dictator, he was bailed out by the Russians who stepped in to remove the stores of poison gas and then, except for the “red line” gaffe, everyone promptly forgot about it.

The insurrection against Assad began in March 2011 and by September 2013 there were an estimated 120,000 dead Syrians and a million or more refugees. The conflict turned from local to regional as the extremist Islamic State (IS) emerged. It is backed by Iran and Turkey, but only for the purpose of defeating Assad, not for declaring itself the new Caliphate.

IS is now in control of much of Syria’s northern region and has taken control of central Iraq, challenging Baghdad as well as its Kurdish sector. On Sunday Islamic State fighters overtook the Lebanese city of Arsal where 100,000 Syrian refugees had fled. There were attacks in Tripoli as well. There is no accounting for how many have been slaughtered by IS at this point.

On August 4, The Daily Star, Lebanon, reported “The jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) group executed seven members of a single family from the Ismaili minority in the central Syrian province of Hama overnight, state media and an activist group said Monday. ‘An armed terrorist group committed a massacre in the Mzeiraa area near the town of Salmiya, killing seven people, including two aged 13 and 15 years old,’ Syrian state news agency SANA said.”

Three days earlier Breitbart News reported “The Islamic State, formerly known as ISIS, told Palestine the terrorist group will join its fight against the ‘barbaric Jews’ but urged patience until ISIS is finished in Arab countries.”

Hamas, Hiroshima, and Sleeping Giants

By Investor's Business Daily

Threats: As a somber anniversary nears, "proportional response" has replaced "victory" in the lexicon of war. But no nation facing an existential threat should apologize for winning or for saving the lives of its own people.

The other day Navi Pillay, the United Nations' high commissioner for human rights, after a meeting of the U.N.'s Geneva-based Human Rights Council, said that Israel, despite dropping leaflets, dummy bombs and even sending text messages and using social media to warn citizens in Gaza, was not doing enough to protect civilians — and "international law has been violated, in a manner that could amount to war crimes."

Among a litany of Israeli sins, Pillay even said that Israel's refusal to share its Iron Dome missile-defense technology with Gaza's "governing authority," otherwise known as the terrorist group Hamas, constituted a war crime, since it meant that Israeli citizens weren't dying in proportional numbers.

"No such protection has been provided to Gazans against the shelling," she said.

Pillay has in the past condemned the ongoing mass killings in Syria, South Sudan, North Korea, China, Pakistan, Sudan and Iran, all of which have served or are currently serving on the Orwellian-named council. And while she did condemn Hamas for using civilian areas and buildings to launch rockets at Israel and for storing 20 rockets at a school in Gaza operated by the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), Pillay routinely reserves her harshest criticisms for Israel.

In 2008, for instance, she accused Israel of "egregious war crimes" merely for defending itself against Hamas rockets.

UNRWA, in a statement, says it found the weapons in "the course of the regular inspection of its premises," adding that the school was vacant.

But, as a senior Israeli official told the Times of Israel, it goes a bit beyond that. "The rockets were passed on to the government authorities in Gaza, which is Hamas," the official said. "In other words, UNRWA handed to Hamas rockets that could well be shot at Israel."

This situation brings back memories on how UNIFIL, the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon, stood by for years, silently watching Hezbollah import its missiles and other weapon and dig its bunkers, all in preparation for using Lebanon and its people as human shields in the terrorist group's unprovoked attack on Israel.

BUT THEY'RE DOING IT FOR LOVE: Half of All Federal Crimes Occur Near U.S.-Mexico Border

By Judicial Watch

Crime is so high along the Mexican border that nearly half of all the criminal cases filed by federal prosecutors in the United States last fiscal year were concentrated in a handful of districts located in that region, according to the U.S. government’s figures.

It’s not as if this is new, but to see it spelled out in a government report with a detailed breakdown is truly alarming. The statistics illustrate that the Mexican-border region is a cesspool of crime that’s costing American taxpayers a chunk of change not to mention loads of grief. There are 94 federal court districts in this country and the five located near the southern border see a large portion of criminal cases, according to the Justice Department’s annual report on criminal prosecutions. The five federal districts also have the biggest number of defendants actually convicted of federal crimes.

Of the 61,529 criminal cases initiated by federal prosecutors last fiscal year, more than 40%—or 24,746—were filed in court districts neighboring the Mexican border. This includes Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California, Western Texas and Southern Texas. The two Texas districts each had more than double the convictions of all four federal court districts in the state of New York combined, according to the DOJ report. The Western Texas District had the nation’s heaviest crime flow, with 6,341 cases filed by the feds. In Southern Texas 6,130 cases were filed, 4,848 in Southern California, 3,889 in New Mexico and 3,538 in Arizona.

Not surprisingly, most of the offenses were immigration related. In fact, 38.6% of all federal cases (23,744) filed last year involved immigration, the DOJ report confirms. Nearly 22% (13,383) were drug related, 19.7% (12,123) were violent crimes and 10.2% (6,300) involved white-collar offenses that include a full range of frauds committed by business and government professionals. This is hardly earth-shattering news in fact, the nation’s southern border region has for years been known for its high crime rate compared to the rest of the country.

However, the problem has escalated at an alarming rate in the last few years. Last spring Judicial Watch reported that violence in the region has gotten so out of control that both Mexican and American journalists have largely stopped reporting it out of fear that drug cartels will retaliate against them and their families. Around the same time a small town paper in Reynosa, the twin border city of McAllen in south Texas, bravely ran a story describing the fear and panic that filled the streets during a three-hour firefight between rival drug cartels.

As Obama Golfs and Fundraises, China Unveils First-Strike Nuclear Missile Targeting U.S. Cities

By Investor's Business Daily

Nuclear Threat: Beijing's strategic military buildup continues with the unveiling of a road-mobile missile capable of delivering up to 10 atomic warheads anywhere in America. Time to show some flexibility, Mr. President?

While President Obama was playing the back nine, and as it was confirmed that the Russians had developed a cruise missile, the R500, which violates 1987's Intermediate Nuclear Forces treaty, the Chinese were busy as well. They now have a mobile intercontinental nuclear missile with no other purpose than to make war against the U.S.

The announcement of the DF-41's existence was not exactly approved by the Chinese government. As the Telegraph reports, the inadvertent original government Web post appeared to have been deleted on Friday, but the Chinese newspaper Global Times, which seems to have a penchant for revealing Chinese military developments, posted a screen capture.

The Telegraph account notes that the DF-41 is designed to have a range of 7,500 miles, according to a report by Jane's Strategic Weapon Systems, putting it among the world's longest-range missiles.

The Pentagon said in a June report the new missile is "capable of carrying multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicles," as many as 10.
