Obama's Egregious Abortion Lie

It's a strong term, that. Lie. But no other word does justice to Barack Obama's outrageous statement to David Brody.

Physical evidence (the actual IL General Assembly vote tally [below]) shows that on March 13, 2003, Barack Obama voted for an amendment making the IL Born Alive Infants Protection Act identical to the federal Born Alive bill.

Obama then voted against the amended bill, making him more pro-abortion that any other U.S. senator, who all voted unanimously for Born Alive. It makes Obama more pro-abortion than [even] NARAL... which went neutral on the federal Bill.

Yet after the Saddleback Showdown on August 16, 2008, Obama stood by his lie when asked about it by CBN's David Brody, as shown on CNN.

David Freddoso at the National Review puts it in stark terms.

Sen. Obama is currently misleading people about what he voted against, specifically claiming that the bill he voted against in his committee lacked “neutrality” language on Roe v. Wade. The bill did contain this language. He even participated in the unanimous vote to put it in.

Want to see the actual differences between the federal and state laws? Non-existent other than the stylistic changes for Illinois wording. The identical neutrality clause as added by Obama is present.

On March 12-13, 2003, the Illinois state senate committee chaired by Senator Barack Obama amended the proposed state Born-Alive Infants Protection bill (SB 1082) to exactly track the language of the already-enacted federal BAIPA, by adopting Senate Amendment No. 1, 10-0.  The committee then voted to kill the amended bill, 6-4, with Obama and the other Democrats on the committee voting against it.  The bill that Obama and his colleges voted to kill, as amended, was virtually identical to the federal law.  The entirely non-substantive points at which the state bill language still differed from the federal law are shown in brackets below (except we have ignored differences in capitalizing).

---------------------------------------------------------Public Law 107–207 [Illinois SB 1082]
107th Congress
An Act
To protect [Illinois: concerning] infants who are
born alive.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of
the United States of America in Congress assembled,
[Illinois: Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:  Section 5.  The Statute on Statutes is amended by adding Section 1.36 as follows:]

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Born-Alive Infants Protection
Act of 2002’’.
[Illinois: no formal title]
SEC. 2. DEFINITION OF BORN-ALIVE INFANT. [Illinois: Section 1.36.  Born-alive infant.]
(a) IN GENERAL.—Chapter 1 of title 1, United States Code,
is amended by adding at the end the following:
‘‘§ 8. ‘Person’, ‘human being’, ‘child’, and ‘individual’ as
including born-alive infant
[Illinois: lacks this section heading]
‘‘(a) In determining the meaning of any Act of Congress, [Illinois: statute] or
of any ruling [Illinois: rule], regulation, or interpretation of the various administrative bureaus and agencies of the United States [Illinois: this State], the words ‘person’, ‘human being’, ‘child’, and ‘individual’, shall include
[Illinois: include] every infant member of the species homo sapiens who is born alive at any stage of development.
‘‘(b) As used in this section, the term ‘born alive’, with respect to a member of the species homo sapiens, means the complete expulsion or extraction from his or her  [Illinois: its] mother of that member, at any stage of development, who after such
[Illinois: that]
expulsion or extraction breathes or has a beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, regardless of whether the umbilical cord has been cut,
,   Illinois: no comma] and regardless of whether the expulsion or extraction occurs as a result of natural or induced labor, cesarean section, or induced abortion.
‘‘(c) Nothing in this section shall be construed to affirm, deny,
expand, or contract any legal status or legal right applicable to any member of the species homo sapiens at any point prior to being ‘born alive’ [Illinois: no quotes] as defined in this section.’’.

(b) CLERICAL AMENDMENT.—The table of sections at the beginning
of chapter 1 of title 1, United States Code, is amended by
adding at the end the following new item:
‘‘8. ‘Person’, ‘human being’, ‘child’, and ‘individual’ as including born-alive infant.’’.
[Illinois: Section 99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect upon becoming law.]

Obama's bald-faced fabrication is shocking. Perhaps that's the "Audacity of Hope": he hopes no one will call him on this audacious lie.

Updates!: RedState:

Barack Obama opposed the Born Alive Infant Protection Act in Illinois. The law was pushed after State Senator Patrick O'Malley heard the horrific story about an infant born alive after an abortion from Jill Stanek, a nurse... David Brody can play it as straight as he wants to play it. But, Barack Obama voted against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. He said it was because the state statute lacked federal protections for abortion. Once the National Right to Life Committee proved that excuse a lie, Obama called NRLC liars until the campaign admitted that, regardless of the facts, abortion laws would have still been hindered by the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

STACLU:

All the spin will make you dizzy... After the media ignored the Obama campaign admitting that he lied about a vote he made in 2003... now Obama is accusing others of “attacking” him with “outrageous lies”! ....Don’t count on the media to do any fact checking. If they were interested in doing that, the documents and facts are easily available. I can see why Obama thinks he can get away with this. The media ignored his lies once, they’ll most likely continue to eat them up. Meanwhile, Obama’s arrogance and audacity will continue to reach uncharted levels.

On Anderson Cooper's CNN blog, "Larry" adds a delightful insight in the comments section.

The pastor should have considered himself fortunate to be on the same stage as Sen. Obama. Not once di [sic] the pastor ask Sen. Obama if he was comfortable and if he would like a better chair; such rudenes [sic]. You can be sure that pastor Wright would have been more curtious [sic] towards Sen. Obama and more agressively interrogative of Sen. McCain.

The only tide there will be is if Sen. Obama is denied his POTUS, and that will be a crimson tide on the streets of america[.]

It's hard to imagine a more warm and inclusive party than the modern Democratic Party.

Lightning Bolt

6'5" Usain Bolt made quite an impression on the track world with his easy victory in the Olympic 100-meter final.

The aptly named Bolt broke his own world record by finishing in 9.69 seconds, despite purposely slowing to celebrate in the final fourth of the race.

It is exceedingly difficult to imagine that Bolt could give Johnson's 12-year-old record of 19.32 seconds the same casual treatment in the final Wednesday. No one has seriously challenged Johnson's mark since he set it at the 1996 Olympics... For now, Bolt's personal best remains 19.67, but he clearly intends to beat that Wednesday...

More intriguing from a technical standpoint, there is the new paradigm theory, linked to Bolt's unusual 6-foot-5, or 1.96-meter, stature: three inches taller than Carl Lewis and two inches taller than Tommie Smith, the all-time greats to whom he is most often compared.

Both Boldon and Bailey see ample room for improvement in Bolt's early phase. "He's 21 years old and been really running 100 meters for four months," Bailey said. "He's raw." ...Both former sprinters can only marvel at the baseline speed Bolt displayed Saturday...

If NFL teams are looking for a Plaxico Burress-clone, they could do worse than start with Bolt.

Intrade says Obama's VP pick will be...

As of this afternoon, the crowd at Intrade had "Slow" Joe Biden leading Kaine by a huge margin.

If you're a believer in the The Wisdom of Crowds, Joe Biden would look to be the pick.

Proof that Men Have Better Friends...

Chris sends along a classic.

Friendship among Women:

A woman didn't come home one night. The next morning she told her husband that she had slept over at a friend's house. The man called his wife's 10 best friends. None of them knew anything about it.

Friendship among Men:

A man didn't come home one night. The next morning he told his wife that he had slept over at a friend's house. The woman called her husband's 10 best friends, eight of which confirmed that he had slept over, and two said that he was still there.

Tell the FCC to free the airwaves!

Remember that fuzzy static between channels on old TVs? Today more than 75% of those airwaves, also called "white space" spectrum, are completely unused. This vast public resource could offer a revolution in wireless services of all kinds, including universal wireless Internet.

The FCC will soon decide whether to open this unused spectrum for general usage, and your voice matters -- a lot. So if you agree that freeing the white spaces represents a vote for the future of the Internet, please sign our petition and help spread the word about this campaign.

Please do it now: sign the petition and tell the FCC to do something to benefit the consumer -- rather than the telco monopoly -- for a change.

Researcher: Prepare for 'Little Ice Age' (will only last 80 years!)

The recent lack of solar activity could translate into a 'little ice age' within the next ten years, according to Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera, a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics at UNAM.

An expert... predicted that in about ten years the Earth will enter a "little ice age" which will last from 60 to 80 years and may be caused by the decrease in solar activity. Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera, a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics of the UNAM [who] teaches at the Centre for Applied Sciences and Technological Development...

Velasco Herrera described as erroneous predictions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), pursuant to which the planet is experiencing a gradual increase in temperature, the so-called global warming. The models and forecasts of the IPCC "[are] incorrect because only are based on mathematical models and presented results at scenarios that do not include, for example, solar activity..."

...The phenomenon of climate change, he added, should include other kinds of factors, both internal, such as volcanoes [,] human activity, and external, such as solar activity... "In this century glaciers are growing", as seen in the Andes, Perito Moreno, Logan, the highest mountain in Canada, and with Franz-Josef Glacier, New Zealand, said Velasco Herrera... [a little Ice Age] could arrive in approximately two years... satellite data indicate[s] that this period of global cooling could even have already begun, since 2005.

Lack of solar activity suggests the possibility of a "Maunder Minimum", which presages a massive cooling event.

Solar activity fluctuates in an 11-year cycle. But so far in this cycle, the sun has been disturbingly quiet. The lack of increased activity could signal the beginning of what is known as a Maunder Minimum, an event which occurs every couple of centuries and can last as long as a century.

Such an event occurred in the 17th century. The observation of sunspots showed extraordinarily low levels of magnetism on the sun, with little or no 11-year cycle.

This solar hibernation corresponded with a period of bitter cold that began around 1650 and lasted, with intermittent spikes of warming, until 1715. Frigid winters and cold summers during that period led to massive crop failures, famine and death in Northern Europe...

This aligns with June's pronouncement by the Australian Astronomical Society warning of global cooling due to diminished solar activity.

Canadian Climatologist Dr. Timothy Ball warns:

If we are facing [a crisis] at all, I think it is that we are preparing for warming when it is looking like we are cooling. We are preparing for the wrong thing.

And in March, NPR reported that independent studies of ocean temperatures point to one stunning conclusion:

...3,000 scientific robots that are plying the ocean have sent home a puzzling message. These diving instruments suggest that the oceans have not warmed up at all over the past four or five years.... Josh Willis at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory says the oceans are what really matter when it comes to global warming... "There has been a very slight cooling, but not anything really significant," Willis says. So the buildup of heat on Earth may be on a brief hiatus... Or it's possible that scientists need to correct for some other feature of the planet they don't know about... But what this does is highlight some of the issues and send people back to the drawing board."

So much for Al Gore's vaunted "consensus" of "settled science."

HuffPo attacks McCain for lack of ties to his wife's half-sister

Check out one of the 'headline posts' on Stuffington Roast, which links to an NPR article.

Cindy McCain's half-sister is angry she's been 'hidden' by the campaign.

No HuffPo commentary on Obama's ties to his half-brother Mark Ndesandjo. Ndesandjo's business in China helps promote "the flood of Chinese imports that are blamed by many Americans for destroying American jobs [and could prove] politically embarrassing."

And HuffPo is curious silent regarding Obama's relationship with his half-brother Malik Obama. ABC's Jake Tapper notes that Malik, when interviewed regarding his step-brother, stated, "I am a Muslim myself, and I don't think that my being a Muslim has got anything to do with my brother being the President of the United States." True enough. Of course, the AP photo of his school registration in Indonesia is food for thought.

Curious how the denizens of HuffPo forgot to mention the half-siblings of their actual candidate.

Obama Campaign, Mainstream Media escape Cone of Sanity

After the Warren Forum discussion on faith and values, a tacit admission that Barack Obama lost decisively came in the form of wailing and gnashing of teeth.

[Warren] had to ask McCain [additional] questions because McCain answered his questions a lot more briefly and succinctly than did Obama... it was so bad for Obama that the kook fringe began a drumbeat Saturday night of accusing McCain of cheating! Now, McCain did not cheat. McCain was driving to the event when Obama was on, and when he got there, he was put in a secure "green-room". The rule was that the guy that went second was not allowed to hear the answers of the guy who went first, and McCain didn't.

So the Obama disinformation about McCain hearing the interview, I mean, it's priceless. We've got this little man-child that is being called The Messiah. He's got this deeply ingrained sense of entitlement, and when it doesn't go his way, it's just cry-in-the-sandbox time.

That's right. Obama's campaign and its public relations arm, the mainstream media, have accused John McCain of cheating. That's the same John McCain who has never taken an earmark and has likewise never been accused of dishonest behavior like, say, plagiarism.

He insulted Clarence Thomas... When he was asked about Clarence Thomas, "Well, I don't think he has the right exper..." He caught himself and said he wasn't qualified at the time he was elevated to that position -- and here's a guy who's been to Yale, a guy who's been to Holy Cross, who spent a year on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals. He worked for Ashcroft as assistant attorney general in the state of Missouri, and Obama is what? A street agitator with 140 days in the Senate, and Obama claims that Clarence Thomas is unqualified?

Obama vs. Clarence Thomas? Compare and contrast:

Thomas

Obama
• Missouri Attorney General's office
• Attorney for Monsanto
• Assistant Secretary of Education
• Legislative assistant to Sen. John Danforth
• Chairman of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
• Served on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, the nation's second most prominent court
• Supreme Court Justice since 1991
• "Community Organizer"
State Senator who voted "present" 130 times to avoid taking controversial positions
• Less than four years experience as a Senator, who has never held a hearing of note in his subcommittee

By any reasonable measure, I'd say Thomas is a hell of a lot better prepared to be commander-in-chief than Obama.

But that's just me.

Second Amendment Sentiments

Bernie sends along a missive entitled A Gun in the House.

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental. As John Steinbeck once said:

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

3. I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'

6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.

7. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have also brought my rifle.'

8. Beware the man who only has one gun. He probably knows how to use it!

I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. I said I did. She said 'Well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!' To which I said, of course it's loaded, can't work without bullets!' She then asked, 'Are you that afraid of some one evil coming into your house?' My reply was, 'No not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all loaded too.' To which I'll add, having a gun in the house that isn't loaded is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank.

Exclusive Transcript of Obama-Brody Interview on CBN

Parts of the interview faded out on my computer, but I'm pretty sure this transcript is accurate.

Q: The born-alive infant protection act, we get a lot of emails about it.

A: Let me clarify this right now. My opponents have not been telling the truth. And I hate to say that people are lying, but they're lying. I have said repeatedly that I would have fully supported the federal bill that everybody supported... That was not the bill that was presented at the state level, which would have undermined Roe v. Wade.

Q: Well, our researchers discovered this document from March 2003, which shows the state bill was amended to be identical to the federal bill... and that you then voted to kill the amended bill, which went down to defeat 6-4 with all of the Democrats voting to kill it.

A: Uh oh. I mean, well, I have said repeatedly that... that... can I get back to you on this one?

Q; We've noticed that when you resort to the phrase "I have said repeatedly" that you're generally getting ready to change positions, waffle, fib... a few examples: the death penalty for raping a child, on supporting the surge, on the born-alive infant protection act, on respecting Hillary Clinton, on moving troops out of Iraq in 16 months, on his campaign bringing people together, on whether he respects Sen. McCain's service to his country, on accepting $1.5 million from lobbyists, well... you get the picture...

A: I have consistently stated that my glib and forthright patter should not be judged for its veracity, but its tone and tenor.

Q: Let's switch to spirituality for a moment. Your controversial church -- Trinity United -- espouses a "Black Liberation Theology", which "refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy.. [the] power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal." Many theologians believe that, beyond a non-loving God, the church is nothing more than a thinly disguised form of Marxism.

A: I have said repeated-- uhm, I have consistently stated that I never heard any of these divisive statements during my seventeen years as a congregant of Trinity. I could very well have been asleep during all of the sermons, but I know for certain that none of these hateful remarks ever penetrated my cranium.

Q: One last question: what do you say to those promoting the rumors that you're the anti-Christ or a Messianic, apocalyptic figure?

A: Absolutely not true, Pat. I have, on occasion, been consumed by evil spirits such as this one -- Iblis, the thrice-damned, a second-tier demon who wanders the Earth seeking opportunities to subvert Heaven's work. But those instances are few and far between and would never, ever cloud my judgment as commander-in-chief.

Q: Well, sir, th- tha- thank you for your time. I have an urgent, er, appointment... must be going...

Ukraine and Poland both want missile defense systems that Obama says are 'unproven'

Deutsche Welle reports that the Ukraine is prepared to join Poland in implementing the U.S. missile defense shield.

Perhaps it was the couple of dozen SS-21 Ballistic Short Range missiles that Russia fired into Georgia that convinced them.

Or the fact that Poland that was threatened with a "nuclear attack" by Russia if the former country implemented a missile shield.

You know, that's the same missile defense system that Senator Obama says is "unproven" and whose funding he promised to cut...

...the same missile defense system that 87% of Americans support in polling conducted by Opinion Research and CNN.

And the very same missile defense system that's achieved a 97% success rate since the decision to deploy was made in 2002.

Irony-meter breaks: Iran blames Michael Savage for 'Islamophobia'

Iran's media claimed today that Michael Savage's radio show is "fueling Islamophobia in US" (no mention of Iran's stated plans for "the destruction of Anglo-Saxon civilization" as a factor).

A recent lawsuit filed by radio host and author Michael Savage against Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is one of the latest acts of racism against Muslims in the United States... Savage, who is often criticized for his fascist and racist opinions, sued Washington-based CAIR for copyright infringement, saying the council had rebroadcast over four minutes from his radio show The Savage Nation on their website as an example of the bigotry and hatred against Muslims in the US.

The excerpts had placed the San Francisco-based host's hateful comments against Islam, Muslims and their holy book, Qur'an, on their website. Savage had also linked CAIR to terrorist organizations... However, the incident has indicated that there is a good deal of effort in US media to somehow make a connection between Islam and terrorism.

In his show, Savage linked CAIR with the September 11, 2001 attacks, proving that there are radio and TV programs which can freely express racist ideas just as there are magazines which freely publish insulting images of the Prophet of Islam and a Guantanamo Bay that desecrates the Qur'an... In line with Savage's accusations, the federal government has recently claimed that CAIR had once provided Hamas with $12 million in funds. Savage's claim was also backed by US Republican Sue Myrick, who says "Groups like CAIR have a proven record of senior officials being indicted and either imprisoned or deported from the United States."

Her comments come while CAIR vice-chairman received the ACLU's 2003 Liberty's Flame Award 'for contributions to the advancement and protection of civil liberties...' ...It seems [Savage] has cleverly used the federal court as a means to attract more listeners to anti-Islam comments on talk shows such as his, which are backed by authorities as a sign of support for the so-called freedom of speech.

Interestingly, Iran's president Ahmadinejad's radio show seems just a tad more inflammatory than Savage's, because it promises the destruction of both America and Israel.

We are in the process of an historical war between the World of Arrogance [the West] and the Islamic world, and this war has been going on for hundreds of years...

...Is it possible for us to witness a world without America and Zionism? ...you had best know that this... goal [is] attainable...

Shhh... no one tell the New York Times.

Troublesome Arctic sea ice defies alarmists, increases from '07

Believers in anthropogenic global warming (AGW) have some 'splaining to do.

Year-over-year the Arctic sea ice extent increased by approximately 30%.

RandomEngineer adds the color commentary: "The fact that 2008’s extent isn’t significantly BELOW the 2007 number because of the aforementioned claimed problem of lacking multi-year ice is simply remarkable. So much for the predictions of a worse year..."

"...The AGW alarmist’s 2008 predictions weren’t merely just wrong, they were in a class of abysmal prognostication skill that ranks up there with psychics..."

"...Witch doctors with chicken guts or orangutans with darts could have fared better..."

"...Oh, and it wasn’t the skeptics claiming things about wind and current. They got that from this outfit called NASA. You may have heard of them..."

Official Obama Blog: Hillary a Lesbian, Bill sexually abused Chelsea, Conservatives will assassinate The One

Think you've seen all 57 flavors of crazy? An official Barack Obama campaign blog authored by "Dr. Peter Calabria" introduces a brand new dimension of insanity.

...an analysis based on [a mathematical] equation indicates that the so-called war on terror will inexorably ratchet up to world war level, a pretty horrible thought given a world armed with nuclear weapons. For that reason we support Barack Obama as the only real anti-war candidate...

The value of our mathematics based analysis lies in its ability to objectively distinguish between the good guys and the bad guys. The technical aspects of the analysis make it slow reading for those without a science background, so we will give its conclusions first here and save the detailed reasoning for later....

...America has 7 million people in jail or otherwise under the control of the penal system. This is 16 times more per capita than the communist People’s Republic of China, where, we are told, there is no freedom or human rights... This is not to say that America is a police state, of course, for if it were you’d have heard about it on the evening news.

...Also notably absent in the media is another creation of the Clintons, the near million homeless [Ed: HUD just reported that the number of homeless as reported by cities and towns decreased in 2007 to 123,833 -- down 15% since 2005] people that wander the streets of Sacramento and Las Vegas and our other big cities. This sharp upsurge in homelessness came about inarguably as a result of Clinton legislature that ended LBJ’s war on poverty by terminating effective social protections for out of work people,

...Really, does any intelligent female over the age of 22 think that Hillary actually felt bad about Bill and Monica? Judging from the observable obvious that Bill is no more than Hillary’s showboat, the best educated guess is that is Hillary is lesbian, a married one, not that unusual in modern America...

...one would not be surprised to find that the unconfident Chelsea Clinton developed as such as a result of some form of child abuse. Chelsea does not look happy. Neglect by the Clintons is hardly to be overlooked as this ambitious pair had better things to pay attention to in their furious political rise to the top than their daughter. And sexual abuse is not to be totally ruled out either given Bill’s sexual tastes.

...Hopefully Obama will not be removed by the ruling class by assassination, which [conservatives] would do if methods to remove him don’t work...

Yeehaw! If I were an Obama supporter, I'd switch to McCain just so as not to be associated with this breed of whackjob.

BBC introduces new video advertising medium

The Beeb's created a new mechanism for Internet video advertising (first spotted at Powerline).

Not bad!

Kwame Obama: hey, it's only ten felony charges!

Barack Obama just breathed a sigh of relief.

A judge ruled that his good friend Detroit Mayor (and Democratic superdelegate) Kwame Kilpatrick could not attend the Democratic National Convention.

Just a few months ago, Barack Obama vocally endorsed Kilpatrick, embracing the mayor and stating that he had done "an outstanding job" and brought about a "renaissance" in Detroit.

"He is a leader not just in Detroit, not just in Michigan, but all across the country people look to him... we know he'll be doing astounding things in the years to come."

Astounding, alright. Ten felony charges including perjury, obstruction of justice, misconduct of office, and two counts of assaulting police officers.

As Jim Geraghty observed, "When video of Obama embracing Kilpatrick is playing, suddenly McCain's embrace of Bush doesn't look so bad anymore, huh?"

And since Democrats like to call the maverick McBush, I think it's fair to call the Democratic candidate Kwame Obama.
