Revenge of the Drones!

The left appears to be reeling from the mass defections of former Obama supporters who have begun publishing public apologia for their votes.

A handful of radical diehards have emailed me, expressing their displeasure with their party's quislings. And Republicans in general. But mostly the quislings. Let the reprisals begin!

I'm not sorry at all, except for the fact that the Republicans have yet to be carted off to the re-education camps in Baghdad or Riyadh where they belong, traitors to America all. -- David Huff

Much like Fox News your article made me laugh. I like your amusing descriptive: 'drones'. I find it much better than the other side (and your kind): 'fearmongers'. -- Brian Roberts

Seems like if you're going to post 2 fake photos of David Brooks in a row, you might want to brush up on your PhotoShop skills first. -- Bev Shaw

In reference to whatever you wanna call "We're Sorry," You actually took time to do that? The graphics really tell the whole story. What an amateur. Go publish that bulls***... (Unless you'd censor me) --Matt Selou

Sorry, I didn't vote for Mr. Wonderful Orator because as usual Talk is Cheap, now he has to walk the walk/Honeymoon Over! He can still earn my respect if he knocks Smiley Pelosi and Nerdy Reid down to size. Fat chance, right. Who the hell elected those two idiots? -- The Hunky

You suck. -- Stephanie Ferrero

Where can I get My “Don’t blame me“ bumper sticker.? -- Tim S.

Doug, I am not sorry that I voted for Obama. This has been a refreshing month of seeing the country move back toward a Constitutional Govt. I never expected that Obama’s election would fix the decade of Republican deregulation and wasted war spending. That is going to be a long term problem but we have a hardworking and intelligent man attempting to work on things. After the last eight years I will take integrity and complete sentences for a while. Sorry, but I am not sorry. -- Richard Horn

The only thing this 'drone' is sorry about is that you and your kind are such a**holes. Your desire to see this President fail overrides your desire for the country to do well? Some patriot you are. Go make out with Limbaugh or something and leave the real work to people who have hope that we can repair the damage inflicted on the country by eight years of your boy Bush. Your a flaming idiot propagandist of the most reprehensible ilk. You speak of responsibility, yet you are only resposible to peddling your crap to make a buck. Go f*** yourself. -- David Caldwell

Bite my shorts you nay-sayers. How about giving him a chance? -- Robert Taylor

Everyone is unhappy with Congress. Is there a way to get a vote on limited terms so that these "honorable" sobs can't make a career out of screwing American citizens and becoming wealthy on our backs? -- Linda W.

DUH! -- Papaw

You can present all the bulls*** articles you want,,,sorry mr. spin we’ve all lived these past years and I don’t forget! The government by the rich for the rich is over. Quit trying to send your propaganda. We all know who you are now! -- Jana Stacy

Grow Up! How can you blame someone for a republican's mess? We are all in this together, it's not his fault-you are the one that elected Bush, he's gone and living a wealthy life. Even if you didn't vote for Obama, he still would have won! Please remove your vote, because it is too many of us, black and white in this world that backs him and admire him for taking on this mess! You need to teach your child how to be a fighter regardless and stop placing blame and do something about it! Mad as hell! -- Joyce Jeffreys

I call top bunk in the re-education camp!

"We're Sorry" -- Obama voters express their regrets

The drones Obama voters have begun sending me photos expressing their sorrow in voting for the Won.

I'll post them all when I have a chance.

Update: Michelle Malkin suggested that David Brooks might want to join the apologetic crew. Sure enough, Junior Cub Reporter Biff Spackle snapped this photo of Brooks confirming his buyer's remorse.

And if you've got some that you'd like me to publish, just fire me an email.

Update II: As for the drones Obama supporters writing to insist we "give him a chance", I suggest you read the copiously illustrated Wisdom of Crowds and Obanomics.

And for those still attempting to pin the market meltdown on various Republicans, I proudly present The Scariest Chart Ever.

Go ahead and read 'em. I'll wait.

Update III: Chuck C. got Brooks to pose in his business attire.

Update IV: Paul B. located a couple of other shots.

Update V: Christopher E. snapped this exclusive shot:

Iran's Nukes, the Twelfth Imam and Apocalyptic Martyrdom

According to 'Twelver' Shi'a Mulims, Imam Hujjat al-Mahdī ( المهدى) is the twelfth Imam and the Mahdi, the ultimate savior of mankind. Twelver Shi'as believe that Muhammad was born in 868 and has been hidden by God (referred to as occultation) to later emerge to fulfill his mission.

Twelver Shi'as cite various references from the Qur'an and reports (Hadith) from Muhammad and the twelve Shi'a Imams. These texts predict the reappearance of Muhammad al-Mahdi which would, in accordance with God's command, bring justice and peace to the world by establishing Islam throughout the world.

Shi'as believe that Muhammad al-Mahdi will reappear when the world has fallen into chaos and civil war emerges between the human race for no reason. At this time, it is believed, half of the true believers will ride from Yemen carrying white flags to Mecca, while the other half will ride from Karbala, in Iraq, carrying black flags to Mecca. At this time, Muhammad al-Mahdi will come wielding God's Sword, the Blade of Evil's Bane, Zulfiqar (Arabic: ذو الفقار, ðū l-fiqār), the Double-Bladed Sword. This heralds the apocalypse.

As mayor of Tehran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is reported to have ordered the city council to build a boulevard to prepare for the Mahdi. A year later, as Iran's president, he budgeted $17 million for a blue-tiled mosque in Jamkaran that is directly tied to the Mahdi.

In 2006, the Washington Post reported:

The expansion [of the city of Qom] is driven by an apocalyptic vision: that Shiite Islam's long-hidden 12th Imam, or Mahdi, will soon emerge -- possibly at the mosque of Jamkaran -- to inaugurate the end of the world. The man who provided $20 million to prepare the shrine for that moment, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has reportedly told his cabinet that he expects the Mahdi to arrive within the next several years.

In a speech four years ago, Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stated, "Our revolution's main mission is to pave the way for the reappearance of the 12th Imam, the Mahdi. Therefore, Iran should become a powerful, developed and model Islamic society. Today, we should define our economic, cultural and political policies based on the policy of Imam Mahdi's return. We should avoid copying the West's policies and systems."

Anton La Guardia, writing in London's Daily Telegraph: "Iran's president actually relishes a clash with the West in the conviction that it would rekindle the spirit of the Islamic revolution and - who knows - speed up the arrival of the Hidden Imam."

In 2007, after additional UN sanctions were threatened, Ahmadinejad stated:

As God promised, the oppressors will have their noses rubbed in the dirt. Now they are fulfilling this promise by themselves... Let it be known that in whatever we do, I see the hand of God and the hidden imam at every moment.

Princeton professor Bernard Lewis states that "...there is a radical difference between the Islamic Republic of Iran and other governments with nuclear weapons. This difference is expressed in what can only be described as the apocalyptic worldview of Iran’s present rulers."

On the holy topic of suicide bombing (martyrdom), Ahmadinejad said: "Is there art that is more beautiful, more divine, and more eternal than the art of martyrdom? A nation with martyrdom knows no captivity."

Iran doesn’t fear retaliation if they attack Israel or the United States because a final global struggle against an evil enemy will present them with the privileges of martyrdom as taught in Islam, Lewis wrote. Death is not a deterrent.

The most dangerous leaders in history are those like Hitler and Ahmadinejad, fueled by totalitarian ideologies and mystical belief systems. Ahmadinejad believes in the imminent return of 12th Imam, which he further believes he can hasten. He also senses that he has a personal responsibility to expedite the return of the Mahdi and is therefore preparing Iran for the apocalypse.

Given the willful incompetence of the UN and the IAEA, Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons has continued unchecked. They now appear to have achieved their goal.

Furthermore, "Iran's success in firing a satellite into Earth orbit on board one of its own missiles serves notice that it effectively already has the capability to build intercontinental ballistic missiles that can put all of Western Europe and the Eastern Seaboard cities of the United States within range."

The clock is ticking.

Houses selling for $7,500 in Democratic Utopia of Detroit

No, I didn't forget a zero. Houses really are selling for seven thousand, five hundred dollars in the Democratic Utopia of Detroit.

Consider: a top-heavy local government; high state and municipal taxes; extremely high rates of unionization (third highest in the contiguous U.S. - PDF); ludicrous demands on utilities mandating "green" energy; and every other anti-business policy prescription imaginable.

And a twit of a Democratic governor whose mastery of socialism has driven the city and state into the ground.

John Mogk, a professor at Wayne State University Law School noted that "a thousand people are leaving the city every month and the city does not have the financial resources and the economic base to solve its own problems."

The best quote from the article (paraphrased): no wonder homicide rates have declined... there's no one left to kill!

Consider Detroit a preview of the rest of the entire country should the Obama administration get its way with higher taxes, the ill-named "Employee Free Choice Act", carbon cap-and-tax, and the other policies aimed at crippling America.

Countries can and do go bankrupt. The United States, with its $65.9 trillion fiscal gap, seems clearly headed down that path. The country needs
to stop shooting itself in the foot. It needs to adopt generational accounting as its standard method of budgeting and fiscal analysis, and it needs to adopt fundamental tax, Social Security, and healthcare reforms that will redeem our children’s future. -- Lawrence J. Behind the marketing "magic" of Barack Obama

Doug Hall's revolutionary book Jump Start Your Marketing Brain (2005) was one of the first quantitative examinations of marketing programs.

Rather than relying upon subjective opinion or creative "breakthroughs" by self-proclaimed experts, it utilized decades of research. Its lessons were based upon statistical analysis of:

• 2,700 ads
• 12,600 brands
• nearly 300,000 retail consumers
• and more than 3,500 salespeople

It is through the lens of Hall's book that we can view the marketing strategies that lurked behind the curtains of the Obama campaign.

Strategies for achieving success of new initiatives

Hall identifies three tactics for success. Of the three, the Obama campaign utilized two:

Uniqueness -- "the uniqueness must be big enough and bold enough to be worth the hassle" -- Obama represented a truly unique candidate. His heritage, speaking ability and newcomer status to the political arena underpinned the "uniqueness" attribute.

Spend! Spend! Spend! -- "spending more money does work" -- the Obama campaign raised nearly a billion dollars, which was a record by a huge margin.

In fact, Hall recommends creating a "surge" in spending that will "break the will" of the opponent.

First to market

Being first to market can double success rates -- Obama informally announced he would be running for President on January 16, 2007. This beat his primary rival to the punch: Hillary Clinton announced the formation of her exploratory committee four days later.

Furthermore, research showed a five-fold improvement in marketing effectiveness when marketing offered "real news" rather than "less novel, established brands". Like the Clinton brand, for instance.

Hall asserts that it's not enough to be first -- when you are first to market, the ideal situation is to define your marketing with "a simple and dramatic statement" (e.g., "Change!"). Defining first as a combination is also a winning approach (e.g., "Hope", "Change").

And he states that marketers must "repeatedly articulate what makes you the first... articulate your point of difference everywhere -- at the start of every... advertisement, on every brochure, on your voice mail message, or your business cards, on your letterhead, and on every T-shirt, mousepad and coffee cup...

As for overcoming resistance to the change represented by a unique, first-to-market strategy, Hall recommends two tactics:

Focus on Serving Others: e.g., help for the "middle-class", Latinos, the LGBT community, etc.

Evoke the only emotion more powerful than fear: Greed: e.g., promising tax cuts for "95% of working Americans".

Tapping new markets

Hall's research also discovered a counter-intuitive insight: finding new customers is 2.8 more important than building customer loyalty. In other words, recruiting previously disinterested parties (e.g., "Obama's `Youth Mojo' Sparks Student Activism, Fueling Campaign") can help supercharge a marketing campaign.

To speed success, Hall also recommends targeting marketing resources on those who are "most open to trying new things." New media company MediaSauce described the Obama campaign's "use of digital and social media was the best executed integrated business initiative EVER implemented since the inception of the Internet."

Obama's use of social networking platforms like YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Flickr and blogs -- starting with a guerilla "1984" campaign that targeted Hillary Clinton -- was therefore key to his success.

Why? As Ed Keller wrote in The Influentials, "One American in ten tells the other nine how to vote, where to eat, and what to buy." Those words were never more true than in 2008.

Hall also says to "leverage your fanatics". Since all categories have fanatics (e.g., MoveOn.org), campaigns must use these "fan clubs" in different ways. For instance, give the club the first opportunity to experience new variations on the campaign; then seek help in spreading the word. And "Influentials" have a "passion for being smarter". They love to be seen as smarter; campaigns must therefore empower them with knowledge -- for instance, using technologies like "Obama Action Wires" -- to spread the word virally.

Donations, new and old

The Obama campaign also utilized a variety of other Hall approaches to capture donations, new and old:

Remove credit checks on orders: Obama's campaign appears to be the first to have removed all credit-card security. Furthermore, Obama's website was the only one that allowed unverified contributions from foreign sources, likely a direct violation of campaign law.

Create special new follow-up systems: the Obama campaign followed Hall's advice to the tee, continually asking overtly for repeat donations and scheduling follow-up solicitations.

Branding

Hall's advice on brand recognition:

Aligning your brand name with your benefit doubles customer recall: consider the endless series of Obama posters depicting the candidate's visage with simplistic messages espousing his "benefits", nebulous though they may be. Hope. Change. Progress. Yes we can.

Think graphically: Hall emphasizes the importance of icons and symbols; they must be analyzed for connections to the brand's values and core benefit. Hall believes that once you've "connected the dots" for customers, they'll always associate your graphics with your core message.

New brand name: Did you notice Obama's reluctance to use the name of his party or any Democratic branding? That appears to have been intentional. Hall's counsel: "with really unique new products or services, you'll be more successful with a new brand name than with an existing brand name."

Summary

Barack Obama's handlers have followed Hall's statistically developed advice to the letter.

No matter what happens to the economy under the disastrous stewardship of Barack Obama's big government policies, Republicans will have to emulate these mechanisms if they are to effectively capitalize on the Democrats' policy failures, which are as inevitable as the sun rising in the east.

Roasting Obama and the Depressocrats

The following are the highlights of Rush Limbaugh's speech at CPAC. Limbaugh was slated for a 20-minute talk but instead spoke extemporaneoulsy (no teleprompter, natch) for over an hour. And it was a thing of beauty. I picked out what I thought were the high points.

[T]ake a look at all the constituency groups that for 50 years have been depending on the Democrat Party to improve their lives. And you tell me if you find any. They're still complaining, still griping about the same problems. Their problems don't get fixed by government. And those lives have been poisoned. Those lives have been cut short by false promises, from government representatives who said don't worry about it, we'll take care of you. Just vote for us.

Ronald Reagan used to speak of a shining city on a hill. Barack Obama portrays America as a soup kitchen in some dark night in a corner of America that's very obscure. He's constantly telling the American people that bad times are ahead, worst times are ahead. And it's troubling, because this is the United States of America. Anybody ever ask -- I'm in awe of our country and I ask this question a lot as I've gotten older. We're less than 300 years old. We are younger than nations that have been on this planet for thousands of years. We, nevertheless, in less than 300 years -- by the way, we're no different than any other human beings around the world. Our DNA is no different. We're not better just because we're born in America. There's nothing that sets us apart. How did this happen? How did the United States of America become the world's lone super power, the world's economic engine, the most prosperous opportunity for an advanced lifestyle that humanity has ever known? How did this happen? And why pray tell does the President of the United States want to destroy it? It saddens me.

[T]he people who have achieved great things, most of it is not inherited. Most wealth in this country is the result of entrepreneurial, just plain old hard work. There's no reason to punish it. There's no reason to raise taxes on these people. Barack Obama, the Democrat Party, have one responsibility, and that's to respect the oath they gave to protect, defend and follow the US Constitution.

They don't have the right to take money that's not theirs and none of it is from the back pockets of producers and give it to groups like ACORN which are going to advance the Democrat Party. If anybody but government were doing this, it would be a crime. And many of us think it's bordering on that as it exists now.

What's the longest war in American history? [The] War on poverty. The war on poverty essentially started in the '30s as part of the New Deal, but it really ramped up in the '60s with Lyndon Johnson, part of the great society war on poverty. We have transferred something like 10 trillion, maybe close to 11 trillion, from producers and earners to non-producers and [non-]earners since 1965. Yet, as I listen to the Democratic Party campaign, why, America is still a soup kitchen, the poor [are] still poor and they have no hope and they're poor for what reason?

They're poor because of us, because we don't care, and because we've gotten rich by taking from them, that's what kids in school are taught today... You know why they're poor, you know why they remain poor? Because their lives have been destroyed by the never-ending government hay that's designed to help them but it destroys ambition. It destroys the education they might get to learn to be self-fulfilling... And it breaks our heart[s]. It breaks our heart[s]. We lose track of numbers with all of the money, with all the money that's been transferred, redistributed, with all the charitable giving in this country.

Ladies and gentlemen, there ought not be any poverty except those who are genuinely ill equipped. But most of the people in poverty in this country are equipped for far much more. They've just been beaten down. They're told don't worry, we'll take care of you. There's nothing out there for you anyway; you'll be discriminated against. Breaks our heart to see this. We can't have a great country and a growing economy with more and more people being told they have a right, because of some injustice that's been done to them or some discrimination, that they have a right to the earnings of others. And it's gotten so out of hand now that what worries me is that... the Barack Obama administration is actively seeking to expand the welfare state in this country because he wants to control it.

When Obama talks about past economies, he somehow always leaves out the recession of the '80s as worse than this one. Why does he leave it out? Because you know why he leaves it out, America? He leaves it out because we got out of that recession with tax cuts... We got out of the 1980s recession with tax cuts. Do you know that President Obama, in six weeks of his administration, has proposed more spending than from the founding of the country to his inauguration?

[T]his is not prosperity. It is not going to engender prosperity. It's not going to create prosperity and it's also not going to advance or promote freedom. It's going to be just the opposite. There are going to be more controls over what you can and can't do, how you can and can't do it, what you can and can't drive, what you can and can't say, where you can and can't say it. All of these things are coming down the pike, because it's not about revenue generation to them, it's about control. They do believe that they have compassion. They do believe they care. But... we never are allowed to look at the results of their plans, we are told we must only look at their good intentions, their big hearts. The fact that they have destroyed poor families by breaking up those families by offering welfare checks to women to keep having babies... no more father needed... the government's the father, they destroy the family. We're not supposed to analyze that. We're not supposed to talk about that. We're supposed to talk about their good intentions. They destroy people's futures. The future is not Big Government. Self-serving politicians. Powerful bureaucrats. This has been tried, tested throughout history. The result has always been disaster. President Obama, your agenda is not new. It's not change, and it's not hope....

Spending a nation into generational debt is not an act of compassion. All politicians, including President Obama, are temporary stewards of this nation. It is not their task to remake the founding of this country. It is not their task to tear it apart and rebuild it in their image.

[Democrats are] going to overreach. At some point, at some point people have got to realize none of this is possible. You can't have people living in homes they don't pay for. You can't have people driving cars they don't pay for. I mean, you can for a while. But after a while the people paying for it -- screw this. We're not putting up with it. And you're going to see -- you're already starting to see evidence of these. All the tea parties that are starting to bubble up out there. Those are great. Fabulous. ...And here's the big question. Here's the big question. And I ask this again in the context of my first address to the nation... Aside from the bastardization of the Constitution that the Obama plans are, that TARP is, it's not constitutional. Aside from that, where is the evidence that the people offering all of this have ever succeeded in any similar plans before? There's none. There is no evidence it works.

Gore Effect strikes again! Giant DC snowstorm, bizarre cold temps to greet 'largest public protest of global warming ever in U.S.'

Update: The forecast has grown worse: DC under Winter Storm Warning: DC faces up to 1 foot of snow, bitter cold, blowing and drifting snow

The 'Gore Effect' strikes again: this time Mother Nature will sabotage NASA's token crackpot James Hansen.

Hansen, of course, is the same Climatard (I hear that's the term they prefer) who calls for "civil disobedience" to protest the use of coal.

Never mind that more than half of America's electricity is produced by coal. Never mind the numbing March temperatures. Never mind the unseasonable snow.

We've got faux science to promote!

NASA's chief climate scientist is in hot water with colleagues and at least one lawmaker after calling on citizens to engage in civil disobedience at what is being billed as the largest public protest of global warming ever in the United States.

In a video on capitolclimateaction.org, Dr. James Hansen is seen urging Americans to "take a stand on global warming" during the March 2 protest at the Capitol Power Plant in Southeast Washington, D.C. "We need to send a message to Congress and the president that we want them to take the actions that are needed to preserve climate for young people and future generations and all life on the planet," says Hansen, who has likened coal-fired power plants to "factories of death" and claims he was muzzled by the Bush administration when he warned of drastic climate changes...

But critics say Hansen's latest call to action blurs the line between astronomer and activist and may violate the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal employees from participating in partisan political activity. "Oh my goodness," one of Hansen's former supervisors, Dr. John Theon, told FOXNews.com when informed of the video. "I'm not surprised ... The fact that Jim Hansen has gone off the deep end here is sad because he's a good fellow." "Why he has not been fired I do not understand," Theon said.

Marc writes that "The Gore Effect" has a long and storied history.
