T-Shirt o' the Day

F.R. sent this one in.

"Crushing"

That's one way you could describe the national debt. Along with "oppressive", "currency-destroying" and "an inter-generational catastrophe". The interactive U.S. debt clock is worth a visit if you enjoy a heart-wrenching shock.

Over the past eight decades, Democrats have implemented a series of budget-busting, epic failures -- Social Security, Medicare, "Great Society", AFT/NEA education monopolies, etc. -- that inexorably increase the size, scope and power of the federal government while leaving a tidal wave of debt for successive generations.

So what do the Obama-Pelosi-Reid Democrats do?

They nationalized the auto companies as a payoff to union bosses, they nationalized the banks, they passed unread "Stimulus" packages that have increased unemployment, they've tried to stifle economic development with a UN-inspired climate bunko scam and now they're earnestly trying to destroy the two-thirds of health care they haven't already ruined.

The Indian Health Service and the Veteran's Administration are the templates we can bank on the Democrats replicating if they shove socialized medicine down our throats.

The Anti-Stimulus In Pictures: Any Questions?

The complete, abject failure of the Democrats' "Stimulus Package" was easy to predict. Consider the following unemployment charts, courtesy of the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Encarta, which were modified to include major alterations in government tax or spending policy.

In February of 1964, President Lyndon Baines Johnson -- a Democrat -- signed the "JFK Tax Cuts" into law. Upon executing the cuts, Johnson stated:

There is no asset more precious to freedom. There is no guarantee more vital to liberty and a robust American economy. No one can bury us or bluff us or beat us so long as our economy remains strong. No economic system anywhere has ever had the success of the American economy by placing maximum reliance on the initiative and the creative energies of individual businessman and workers we have created here in our land, the most prosperous nation in the history of the world.

Kennedy and Johnson sounded more like modern conservative pundits than today's Marxist-in-Chief.

They would be pariahs in the modern Democrat Party.

"[Cronkite spent] the rest of his life steadfastly insisting his editorial judgment on Vietnam represented his honest and heartfelt opinion. When measuring an event of such enormous importance, it hardly matters what his deeply felt personal reasons were. What he did not do was simply and clearly report on the outcome of the Tet offensive, and allow his viewers to decide what they made of it. The Communists came to understand the value of their propaganda victory, with General Giap later saying “The most important result of the Ted offensive was it made you de-escalate the bombing, and it brought you to the negotiation table. It was, therefore, a victory… The war was fought on many fronts. At that time the most important one was American public opinion.” -- Doc Zero

Rant o' the Day

Behold Dr. James David Manning, via Vanderleun.

Doctor, stop dissembling and tell us how you really feel!

Obama Adviser Cites Google Search as Economic 'Progress'

The rocket scientists orchestrating the economy from a bunker deep inside the White House are grasping at straws. Looking for any bright spot they can find, the best they can come up with is citing Google search trends. And, like so many things involving this administration, they're cherry-picking.

Of all the statistics pouring into the White House every day, top economic adviser Larry Summers highlighted one Friday to make his case that the economic free-fall has ended. The number of people searching for the term “economic depression” on Google is down to normal levels, Summers said. Searches for the term were up four-fold when the recession deepened in the earlier part of the year, and the recent shift goes to show consumer

Summers didn't bother searching on the stuff that matters for folks who are suffering. Courtesy of Google Trends, the following graphs depict the change in volume of search terms by folks using Google.

best job site

how long does unemployment last?

cheap food

foreclosure notice

how to sell my car

I guess Summers forgot to try those. Maybe he's not "empathetic" enough, like Judge Sotomayor.

Get your Steve Driehaus Blog Widget!

Steve Driehaus is a Democrat from Ohio who ran as a "fiscal conservative" in a very red district (OH-1). Seriously. And yet he voted for every single one of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid economy-killers including Cap-and-Trade.

Now we find out, courtesy of Say Anything, that Driehaus sold out for a measly $2 grand in campaign cash. $2 grand.

Three House Democratic leaders who were whipping members on the climate change bill gave tens of thousands in campaign cash to party moderates around the time of the 219-212 vote on June 26, according to Federal Election Commission records... Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) doled out $28,000 to reps who eventually voted yes on June 24, two days before the big vote—on a day when House leaders were doing some heavy-duty arm-twisting.

Clyburn recipients who voted for the bill included a who’s-who of battleground district Dems: Steve Driehaus, D-OH ($2,000); Martin Heinrich, D-NM ($2,000); Suzanne Kosmas, D-Fla. ($4,000); Betsy Markey, D-Colo. ($2,000); Carol Shea-Porter, D-NH ($2,000), Baron Hill, D-Ind. ($2,000); Alan Grayson, D-Fla. ($2,000); Leonard Boswell, D-Iowa ($2,000); Jim Himes, D-Conn. ($2,000); Mary Jo Kilroy, D-OH ($2,000); Kurt Schrader, D-Ore. ($2,000); Jerry McNerney, D-Calif. ($2,000) and Tom Perriello, D-Va. ($2,000).

If you have a blog and you want to express your disgust with PelosiCons like Driehaus, please join me in posting a Steve Driehaus blog widget.

I can't guarantee it will lead to an additional 5,000 or 10,000 visitors to your blog, but I can say that you'll feel all warm and gooey inside after you post. While that could be constipation, odds are it's knowing you helped light a bonfire for 2010.

Steve Driehaus votes to steal $4,000 from your family. Thanks, Steve!

Let me know if you post the widget and I'll reciprocate with a back-link... and gladly pile on if you have a similar Blue Dog or Turncoat you're interested in politically targeting in 2010.

Yes we can!

The CBO's Greatest Hits

At his blog, the director of the Congressional Budget Office weighs in on the Obama-Pelosi-Reid Path To Economic Utopia™.

His most notable quotes include:

"the federal budget is on an unsustainable path"

"would depress economic growth in the United States"

"would cause substantial harm to the economy"

"CBO estimates that in fiscal years 2009 and 2010, the federal government will record its largest budget deficits as a share of GDP since shortly after World War II."

"This higher debt results in permanently higher spending to pay interest on that debt."

Gee, that sounds familiar.

Where do you liberals draw the line? How much federal government is enough for you? 60% of your income in taxes? 70%?

Or just North Korea-style? Their carbon footprint is very low and their health care is free!
