BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Boston Globe Climate Beclownment Spectacular

Oh, my heavens... my eyes are tearing up I'm laughing so hard. Hold on, I'm... gasping... for air. Stop... oh, damn, I can't breathe. Hold on a sec'.

Okay, I'm back. Take this headline from The Boston Globo Gym, please:

Boston faces deep risk from sea level rise

Brace yourself Boston: Sea level rise from climate change could jeopardize Hub assets worth $463 billion.

Pity these nearly bankrupt lard-asses can't bother to surf the inter-tubes like their readers. Some of the comments are priceless.

If this is based on Al Gore's "cooked" data, then there is nothing to worry about.

Get a clue Globo! The global warming thing's a hoax. Doesn't anyone at that rag read the papers?

Build Giant Sea walls like Denmark and London!

ClimateGate continues...let me guess, 50% tax on top of previously taxed income to help SAVE THE CITY FROM SINKING!!!

26 Inches in 20 years, uh-huh, ya right, based on what Empirical Data? I highly doubt the ocean has risen 26 Inches since the Pilgrims first landed in MA. More phoney-baloney Leftist Moondbat Pseudo-Science, another typical day for El Globo...

Yes! I'm getting waterfront property in Beacon Hill!

This would be interesting we didn't just learn that climate researchers have been engaged in massive fraud.

Wow- then all those overpriced condos really will be "underwater"!!!

Help us, Obama-wan Kenobi, you are our only hope!

We are not one with Planet.

Funny the Globe has not run a story about the global warming liars who have been caught trying to cover their rears.

When will the Globe do an article on ClimateGate? A report from the WWF is hardly newsworthy, if not a complete fabrication. The Maldives rising sealevels have turned out to be another hoax.

This just in: Boston also faces a huge threat from bigfoot. I would think that the massive fraud uncovered at the leading climate change think tank would be a higher news priority than this. Not that the news is slanted or anything....

So can someone explain to me what happened to the glacier that covered Boston 19,000 years ago? Was that global warming caused by man? It made a glacier retreat over most of New England and Canada. 26 inches huh? How thick was the ice that covered the same region?

I love it - funnier than the onion!!!!!! The World Wildlife Fund... oh man, too funny, really. Good stuff, guys!

Quick ! Somebody blame Bush !!

That's why we have boats right? Where is Dennis Quade when you need him?

We have choices to make:
A. We could all move inland.
B. We could build levies like New Orleans has now.
C. We could hire Moses to hold back the water.
D. We could all go back to the stone age, pre-fire.
E. We could forget that we read this article and go back to living normally.
Take your pick!

We need a topo map with the to-be-submerged areas marked for this to be useful information.

Does this mean we don't have to fund the Convention Center expansion?

This is horrible. I'm seeing scientific evidence of this already. I was at the coast in the morning, and by early afternoon the seas had risen quit a bit. But then later that night I saw they had receded. So I don't know what to think. Please Globe, or Al Gore, or some other neutral source of scientific data - tell me what to think.

It goes on and on and on. This really must be a parody. There's no other rational explanation.

Update: P.J. Gladnick catches a similar meme at the Houston Comical ("Climategate: MSM Writers Try to Ignore Scandal But Readers Bring Them Back to Reality").

'Hope is fading fast' --- the T-Shirt

The Left's disgust with the Obama administration is palpable. Emblematic of their disdain is a new T-shirt, called Hope Is Fading Fast, which Mediaite describes as "a devastating take on the iconic Obama poster."

A new offensive has been launched against President Obama, and if it catches on it may make as much noise as a Birther at a Town Hall. It’s the new... t-shirt from LA streetwear company Freshjive — a sad, disappointed take on the iconic “HOPE” poster by Shepard Fairey. Here’s how FreshJive describes it...

Pre-releasing on Black Friday is the t shirt design, “Hope is Fading Fast”. This is actually the first item releasing without the Freshjive brand name on it...

...Read the recent post on the World’s Got Problems blog regarding how the Obama administration is maintaining continuity with its disgraced predecessor.

Ouch. FreshJive founder Rick Katz is well-known locally as both a streetwear pioneer as well as a provocateur (he was protested, for example, by the Jewish Defense League with two controversial Palestinian-themed shirts last June). This shirt will probably cause a more conflicted reaction as Democrats debate whether it’s fair or unfair, and Republicans will probably love it. What makes this image significant, of course, is that it comes from the left: In October 2007 Katz said, “Really in the end what drives me is making that one t-shirt that says ‘F*** off, Bush.’” Two years later, he seems to be sending Obama pretty much the same message.

The Obama theory of "trickle-up economics" is what we thought it would be: trickle-down poverty.

The Suicidal History of Third Parties in America

Intentionally dividing your army into two distinct, warring factions would be unthinkable for a military commander. It is equally suicidal for a resurgent conservative movement. That is why talk of a third-party run is nonsensical and defeatist.

But don't trust me. Consider the history of third-party presidential candidates in America:

The Republican Party must be the vessel for conservatism to succeed. Ronald Reagan ran as a GOP outsider and won two successive landslides.

Conservatives must primary pseudo-Republicans like Dede Scozzafuzza (whatever) and boot them out of the party. We must stand for limited government, national defense, free markets, legal immigration, fiscal prudence and -- most of all -- the Constitution as the founders intended it.

That is why talk of a third party run must be dismissed. Consider it a fool's errand -- or the surreptitious work of a Pelosi-Obama-Reid Democrat.

The CRU Climate Scam In 90 Seconds

The cache of leaked documents from Climactic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia is a veritable treasure trove of fraud, cover-ups and faux science. London's Daily Mail reports:

The leak has been a huge embarrassment to the climate unit at the University of East Anglia, which is a global leader in its field.

The scientist at the heart of the climate change scandal was under growing pressure to quit last night.

George Monbiot, a leading environmentalist, said Phil Jones should resign from the Climatic Research Unit over leaked emails that appear to show researchers suppressed scientific data... More emails came to light yesterday, including one in which an American climatologist admitted it was a travesty that scientists could not explain a lack of global warming in recent years.

In another note, UK researchers dismissed the work of scientists challenging global warming as 'crap'... Another appeared to call for pressure on the BBC after a reporter suggested that evidence for rising temperatures since 2001 was thin...

Best of all, the scientists at the heart of the global warming scam -- like the reprehensible pair of Phil Jones and Michael Mann -- are now laughingstocks.

ClimateGate: Executive Summary of the CRU Warming Scandal

A contributor in the Gray Lady's communities offered this summary of the CRU scandal that blows a gaping hole in the UN's global warming bunko scam.

A Summary:

• Phil Jones writes to University of Hull to try to stop sceptic Sonia Boehmer Christiansen using her Hull affiliation. Graham F Haughton of Hull University says its easier to push greenery there now SB-C has retired.(1256765544)

• Michael Mann discusses how to destroy a journal that has published sceptic papers.(1047388489)

• Tim Osborn discusses how data are truncated to stop an apparent cooling trend showing up in the results (0939154709).

Analysis of impact here. Wow!

• Phil Jones describes the death of sceptic, John Daly, as "cheering news".

• Phil Jones encourages colleagues to delete information subject to FoI request.(1212063122)

• Phil Jones says he has use Mann's "Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series"...to hide the decline". Real Climate says "hiding" was an unfortunate turn of phrase.(0942777075)

• Letter to The Times from climate scientists was drafted with the help of Greenpeace.(0872202064)

• Mann thinks he will contact BBC's Richard Black to find out why another BBC journalist was allowed to publish a vaguely sceptical article.(1255352257)

• Kevin Trenberth says they can't account for the lack of recent warming and that it is a travesty that they can't.(1255352257)

• Tom Wigley says that Lindzen and Choi's paper is crap.(1257532857)

• Tom Wigley says that von Storch is partly to blame for sceptic papers getting published at Climate Research. Says he encourages the publication of crap science. Says they should tell publisher that the journal is being used for misinformation. Says that whether this is true or not doesn't matter. Says they need to get editorial board to resign. Says they need to get rid of von Storch too. (1051190249)

• Ben Santer says (presumably jokingly!) he's "tempted, very tempted, to beat the crap" out of sceptic Pat Michaels. (1255100876)

• Mann tells Jones that it would be nice to '"contain" the putative Medieval Warm Period'. (1054736277)

• Tom Wigley tells Jones that the land warming since 1980 has been twice the ocean warming and that this might be used by sceptics as evidence for urban heat islands.(1257546975)

• Tom Wigley say that Keith Briffa has got himself into a mess over the Yamal chronology (although also says it's insignificant. Wonders how Briffa explains McIntyre's sensitivity test on Yamal and how he explains the use of a less-well replicated chronology over a better one. Wonders if he can. Says data withholding issue is hot potato, since many "good" scientists condemn it.(1254756944)

• Briffa is funding Russian dendro Shiyatov, who asks him to send money to personal bank account so as to avoid tax, thereby retaining money for research.(0826209667)

• Kevin Trenberth says climatologists are nowhere near knowing where the energy goes or what the effect of clouds is. Says nowhere balancing the energy budget. Geoengineering is not possible.(1255523796)

• Mann discusses tactics for screening and delaying postings at Real Climate.(1139521913)

• Tom Wigley discusses how to deal with the advent of FoI law in UK. Jones says use IPR argument to hold onto code. Says data is covered by agreements with outsiders and that CRU will be "hiding behind them".(1106338806)

• Overpeck has no recollection of saying that he wanted to "get rid of the Medieval Warm Period". Thinks he may have been quoted out of context.(1206628118)

• Mann launches RealClimate to the scientific community.(1102687002)

• Santer complaining about FoI requests from McIntyre. Says he expects support of Lawrence Livermore Lab management. Jones says that once support staff at CRU realised the kind of people the scientists were dealing with they became very supportive. Says the VC [vice chancellor] knows what is going on (in one case).(1228330629)

• Rob Wilson concerned about upsetting Mann in a manuscript. Says he needs to word things diplomatically.(1140554230)

• Briffa says he is sick to death of Mann claiming his reconstruction is tropical because it has a few poorly temp sensitive tropical proxies. Says he should regress these against something else like the "increasing trend of self-opinionated verbiage" he produces. Ed Cook agrees with problems.(1024334440)

• Overpeck tells Team to write emails as if they would be made public. Discussion of what to do with McIntyre finding an error in Kaufman paper. Kaufman's admits error and wants to correct. Appears interested in Climate Audit findings.(1252164302)

• Jones calls Pielke Snr a prat.(1233249393)

• Santer says he will no longer publish in Royal Met Soc journals if they enforce intermediate data being made available. Jones has complained to head of Royal Met Soc about new editor of Weather [why?data?] and has threatened to resign from RMS.(1237496573)

• Reaction to McIntyre's 2005 paper in GRL. Mann has challenged GRL editor-in-chief over the publication. Mann is concerned about the connections of the paper's editor James Saiers with U Virginia [does he mean Pat Michaels?]. Tom Wigley says that if Saiers is a sceptic they should go through official GRL channels to get him ousted. (1106322460)
[Note to readers - Saiers was subsequently ousted]

• Later on Mann refers to the leak at GRL being plugged.(1132094873)

• Jones says he's found a way around releasing AR4 review comments to David Holland.(1210367056)

• Wigley says Keenan's fraud accusation against Wang is correct. (1188557698)

• Jones calls for Wahl and Ammann to try to change the received date on their alleged refutation of McIntyre [presumably so it can get into AR4](1189722851)

• Mann tells Jones that he is on board and that they are working towards a common goal.(0926010576)

• Mann sends calibration residuals for MBH99 to Osborn. Says they are pretty red, and that they shouldn't be passed on to others, this being the kind of dirty laundry they don't want in the hands of those who might distort it.(1059664704)

• Prior to AR3 Briffa talks of pressure to produce a tidy picture of "apparent unprecedented warming in a thousand years or more in the proxy data". [This appears to be the politics leading the science] Briffa says it was just as warm a thousand years ago.(0938018124)

• Jones says that UK climate organisations are coordinating themselves to resist FoI. They got advice from the Information Commissioner [!](1219239172)

• Mann tells Revkin that McIntyre is not to be trusted.(1254259645)

• Revkin quotes von Storch as saying it is time to toss the Hockey Stick . This back in 2004.(1096382684)

• Funkhouser says he's pulled every trick up his sleeve to milk his Kyrgistan series. Doesn't think it's productive to juggle the chronology statistics any more than he has.(0843161829)

• Wigley discusses fixing an issue with sea surface temperatures in the context of making the results look both warmer but still plausible. (1254108338)
• Jones says he and Kevin will keep some papers out of the next IPCC report.(1089318616)

• Tom Wigley tells Mann that a figure Schmidt put together to refute Monckton is deceptive and that the match it shows of instrumental to model predictions is a fluke. Says there have been a number of dishonest presentations of model output by authors and IPCC.(1255553034)

• Grant Foster putting together a critical comment on a sceptic paper. Asks for help for names of possible reviewers. Jones replies with a list of people, telling Foster they know what to say about the paper and the comment without any prompting.(1249503274)

• David Parker discussing the possibility of changing the reference period for global temperature index. Thinks this shouldn't be done because it confuses people and because it will make things look less warm.(1105019698)

• Briffa discusses an sceptic article review with Ed Cook. Says that confidentially he needs to put together a case to reject it (1054756929)

• Ben Santer, referring to McIntyre says he hopes Mr "I'm not entirely there in the head" will not be at the AGU.(1233249393)

• Jones tells Mann that he is sending station data. Says that if McIntyre requests it under FoI he will delete it rather than hand it over. Says he will hide behind data protection laws. Says Rutherford screwed up big time by creating an FTP directory for Osborn. Says Wigley worried he will have to release his model code. Also discuss AR4 draft. Mann says paleoclimate chapter will be contentious but that the author team has the right personalities to deal with sceptics.(1107454306)

Best Wishes

Remember, folks, Al Gore says the science is "settled".

Here is an example of the "settled science" of AGW. In one of the emails from the CRU "hack", Dendrochronologist Edward Cook states the following:

Without trying to prejudice this work, but also because of what I almost think I know to be the case, the results of this study will show that we can probably say a fair bit about <100 year extra-tropical NH temperature variability (at least as far as we believe the proxy estimates), but honestly know fu**-all about what the >100 year variability was like with any certainty (i.e. we know with certainty that we know fu**-all).

I guess "fu**-all" is a sciency term for "the science is settled".

And as if emails, comments in the code and the code itself -- all designed to mislead, misdirect and avoid freedom-of-information requests -- weren't enough, there's this.

Perhaps indicative of a decided political agenda, it would appear that at least one member of CRU is on Earth Government's mailing list. Not to worry, the group just wants to create one world government. And what could possibly go wrong with that?

But remember folks -- they're just scientists with no political agenda whatsoever.

ACORN pwnage part II: Breitbart's BigGovt Lowers the Boom

When it comes to public relations strategy, most would acknowledge that Andrew Breitbart is the reigning grandmaster. His latest move is another masterstroke, the result of some dumpster-diving behind the offices of ACORN San Diego (National City). Little more than a week after Cali A.G. Jerry Brown announced a state-wide investigation of ACORN, the office "dumped thousands of sensitive documents" -- including personal information governed by privacy regulations -- into a publicly accessible dumpster.

And what did Breitbart's investigators find in the cache?

...ACORN’s political agenda is... exposed, with thousands upon thousands of documents revealing the depth of the political machine that is ACORN, and its disturbing ties to not only public employee labor unions but some of the most radical leftist organizations.

The laws governing how sensitive, personal information such as social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, immigration records, tax returns, etc. must be treated are very stringent, and thus it seems as if ACORN may have committed serious violations in that department alone, with thousands upon thousands of potential plaintiffs.

Included throughout this post are a couple of photos showing the dump site, as well as just a small sample of the type of documents summarily dumped by the San Diego office of ACORN....

Over the weeks and months ahead, BigGovernment.com will continue to release information from this shocking document dump by ACORN, slowly revealing the ugly truth of ACORN: the fact that their stated mission of helping the poor and downtrodden is just a ruse and a cover for an organization that is highly partisan and highly political, and thus rotten to the core.

If California Attorney General Jerry Brown and United States Attorney General Eric Holder refuse to truly investigate ACORN, and if the mainstream media refuses to engage in the investigative reporting that they used to do, then it will continue to be up to citizen journalists and investigators to expose the dirty, rotten underbelly of ACORN.

Why is this so important?

Recall that ACORN represents not only an arm of the Democrat Party but also one of Barack Obama's most important friends and allies.

Obama sued Citibank in 1994; one of hundreds of nuisance lawsuits filed by ACORN and its affiliates to loosen mortgage underwriting standards, a step that led directly to the subprime meltdown.

Earlier in his career, ACORN used Obama as a trainer for its community organizers, a fact that required Obama to alter his 'Fight the Smears' website -- because the 'smears' turned out to be true.

In 2007, Obama told a huge group of ACORN supporters that the group would drive his progressive agenda, stating, "We're gonna be having meetings all across the country with community organizations so that you have input into the agenda for the next presidency of the United States of America."

ACORN may have learned the trick from the Obama campaign; it has routinely 'scrubbed' its website to conceal its close ties to labor groups like the SEIU.

So it's worth paraphrasing an executive summary: Obama trained ACORN's paid agitators, he worked with ACORN in the 1992 election, he sued Citibank on behalf of ACORN, he was endorsed by ACORN, and he pledged to have ACORN help shape his agenda.

And ACORN appears to be laced with corruption -- from voter registration fraud, to embezzlement, to tax evasion, to violating the laws governing partisan activities among non-profits, and probably a dozen other crimes large and small.

Barack Obama is ACORN. And ACORN is him.

Climate Fraud Smoking Guns: Highlights of the incredible CRU HARRY_READ_ME.TXT file

The hacked climate research files include a lengthy file of programmers' notes called HARRY_READ_ME. It appears to record the challenges that programmers encountered in trying to produce the results that the warming crowd wanted. If it is one-tenth correct, it is the single smoking gun (rather, a stick of dynamite) that will end the global warming bunko scam once and for all.

Consider the highlights:

I was going to do further backtracing, but it's been revealed that the same issues were in 2.1 - meaning that I didn't add the duff data. The suggested way forward is to not use any observations after 1989, but to allow synthetics to take over. I'm not keen on this approach as it's likely (imo) to introduce visible jumps at 1990, since we're effectively introducing a change of data source just after calculating the normals. My compromise is to try it - but to also try a straight derivation from half-degree synthetics.

So, first, we need synthetic-only from 1990 onwards, that can be married with the existing glos from pre-1990...

Here, the expected 1990-2003 period is MISSING - so the correlations aren't so hot! Yet the WMO codes and station names /locations are identical (or close). What the hell is supposed to happen here? Oh yeah - there is no 'supposed', I can make it up. So I have :-)

..You can't imagine what this has cost me - to actually allow the operator to assign false WMO codes!! But what else is there in such situations? Especially when dealing with a 'Master' database of dubious provenance (which, er, they all are and always will be)...

25. Wahey! It's halfway through April and I'm still working on it. This surely is the worst project I've ever attempted. Eeeek. I think the main problem is the rather nebulous concept of the automatic updater. If I hadn't had to write it to add the 1991-2006 temperature file to the 'main' one, it would probably have been a lot simpler. But that one operation has proved so costly in terms of time, etc that the program has had to bend over backwards to accommodate it. So yes, in retrospect it was not a brilliant idea to try and kill two birds with one stone - I should have
realised that one of the birds was actually a pterodactyl with a temper problem.

With huge reluctance, I have dived into 'anomdtb' - and already I have that familiar Twilight Zone sensation.

I have found that the WMO Code gets set to -999 if *both* lon and lat are missing. However, the following points are relevant:

* LoadCTS multiplies non-missing lons by 0.1, so they range from -18 to +18 with missing value codes passing through AS LONG AS THEY ARE -9999. If they are -999 they will be processed and become -99.9. It is not clear why lats are not treated in the same way!

* The subroutine 'Anomalise' in anomdtb checks lon and lat against a simple 'MissVal', which is defined as -999. This will catch lats of -999 but not lons of -9999.

* This does still not explain how we get so many -999 codes.. unless we don't and it's just one or two?

And the real baffler:

* If the code is -999 because lat and lon are both missing - how the bloody hell does it know there's a duplication within 8km?!!!

An interesting aside.. David was looking at the v3.00 precip to help National Geographic with an enquiry. I produced a second 'station' file with the 'honest' counts (see above) and he used that to mask out cells with a 0 count (ie that only had indirect data from 'nearby' stations). There were some odd results.. with certain months havign data, and others being missing. After considerable debate and investigation, it was understood that anomdtb calculates normals on a monthly basis. So, where there are 7 or 8 missing values in each month (1961-1990), a station may end up contributing only in certain months of the year, throughout its entire run!

The problem is that the synthetics are incorporated at 2.5-degrees, NO IDEA why, so saying they affect particular 0.5-degree cells is harder than it should be. So we'll just gloss over that entirely ;0)

ARGH. Just went back to check on synthetic production. Apparently - I have no memory of this at all - we're not doing observed rain days! It's all synthetic from 1990 onwards. So I'm going to need conditionals in the update program to handle that. And separate gridding before 1989. And what TF happens to station counts?

OH **** THIS. It's Sunday evening, I've worked all weekend, and just when I thought it was done I'm hitting yet another problem that's based on the hopeless state of our databases. There is no uniform data integrity, it's just a catalogue of issues that continues to grow as they're found.

Confidence in the fidelity of the Australian station in the database drastically reduced. Likelihood of invalid merging of Australian stations high...

I am very sorry to report that the rest of the databases seem to be in nearly as poor a state as Australia was. There are hundreds if not thousands of pairs of dummy stations, one with no WMO and one with, usually overlapping and with the same station name and very similar coordinates. I know it could be old and new stations, but why such large overlaps if that's the case? Aarrggghhh! There truly is no end in sight...

...I have the CLIMAT bulletin for 10/2006, which gives data for Rain Days (12 in this case). It doesn't seem likely that nothing was reported after 2002...

So.. should I really go to town (again) and allow the Master database to be 'fixed' by this program? Quite honestly I don't have time - but it just shows the state our data holdings have drifted into. Who added those two series together? When? Why? Untraceable, except anecdotally.

It's the same story for many other Russian stations, unfortunately - meaning that (probably) there was a full Russian update that did no data integrity checking at all. I just hope it's restricted to Russia!!

And now the June 2000 histograms are much more interesting! And of course (for this is THIS project), much more worrying. The June 2000 plot for the new data (3.00) shows a fall at VAP ->0. This is in contrast to the other three, which show a more expotential decline from a high near 0 (though admittedly the 2.10 version does have a second peak at around 120). In fact, the June 2000 3.00 series has peaks at ~90 and ~300! Oh, help.

The big question must be, why does it have so little representation in the low numbers? Especially given that I'm rounding erroneous negatives up to 1!!

Oh, sod it. It'll do. I don't think I can justify spending any longer on a dataset, the previous version of which was completely wrong (misnamed) and nobody noticed for five years.

Looked at Bangladesh first. Here, the 1990s show a sudden drop that really can only be some stations having data a factor of 10 too low. This ties in with the WWR station data that DL added for 1991-2000, which aprently was prone to scaling issues. Wrote stnx10.for to scale a file of WWR Bangladesh records, then manually C&P'd the decade over the erroneous ones in the database. Also fixed country name from 'BNGLADESH'!

Case closed.

Bombs and Dollars Ranks the Conservative Blogosphere

Mitchell at Bombs and Dollars has published his own ranking of the conservative blogosphere. Proud though it makes me, his methodology needs a bit of fine-tuning, as we turn up ahead of American Thinker, Campaign Spot, Dan Riehl, Gateway Pundit and a host of other big leaguers.

The picture at right is Mitch with the unsurpassed Michelle Malkin. I'd call her the current reigning Goddess of the Blogosphere, but the ACLU might take offense.

Al Gore AWOL as China's Pollution Devastates Planet

While Al Gore tries to earn his second billion dollars perpetuating the warmal colding grift in the U.S., China's prolific polluters have somehow escaped his scrutiny.

Three months ago, a chemical plant in Hunan Liuyang was shut down after a "cadmium pollution" incident began killing off plant life. The event received national attention. Reporter Fang Qianhua visited the site and filed a shocking report illustrating the ravaging effects on local agriculture.

July of this year my partner Yang Xiaohong and I went to Liuyang in Hunan province together to cover the incident of cadmium pollution.

Centered at Xianghe chemical factory which was the source of the cadmium pollution, the fields within 1.5 kilo-meter radius were seriously polluted with cadmium.

At the time, the amount of the cadmium content in majority of the villagers’ body seriously exceeded the standard level.

Some of them were very young babies. Apart from this, large tracts of contaminated farmland and crops were too horrible to look at.

Those once familiar fruits and vegetables in the field became grotesque and disfigured beyond recognition, making people feel nausea and fearful when looking at them.

November of this year I once again returned back to the polluted areas to investigate and found many farmland were deserted, rarely seen crops.

However after walked through many villages we could still see some remaining fruits and vegetables in the corners of the deserted fields.

Because they were never cleared away, after a few months of pollution they have become more deformed, more shocking.

In order to find crops suitable for the photo shoot, I went there 4 times to couple of the villages to look for those polluted vegetables. To me, these deformed and sick fruits and vegetables are like a group of special patients.

Al Gore, Henry Waxman, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer were unavailable for comment as they were jetting about the country drumming up support for increased Statism.

The Milli Vanilli of Science: CRU Emails Unpeel the Warming Scam

The hacked climate research files -- at the heart of the global warming debate -- are now indexed and may be searched. It is obvious from reading through the files that a cover up of the first order was underway from the start.

In 2007 I wrote that the UN's climate change panel had engineered a trillion-dollar bunko scam. But it wasn't just the bureaucrats, consultants and businessmen who hoped to make some easy money out of the grift; even the scientists appear to be in on the game.

A small sample of emails (emphases mine) help illustrate the fraud.

Mike,
It would be good to produce future series with and without the long
instrumental series and maybe the documentary ones as well. The long
measurements can then be used to validate the low-freq aspects at least
back to 1750, maybe earlier with the documentary. There are some key
warm decades (1730s, some in the 16th century) which the Moberg
reconstruction completely misses and gives the impression that all
years are cold between 1500 and 1750.
Away Feb 6-10 and 12-20 and 22-25 (last in Chicago - on the panel to
consider the vertical temp work of CCSP).

Yes, we've learned out lesson about FTP. We're going to be very careful in the future
what gets put there. Scott really screwed up big time when he established that directory

Yeah, there is a freedom of information act in the U.S., and the contrarians are going
to try to use it for all its worth. But there are also intellectual property rights
issues, so it isn't clear how these sorts of things will play out ultimately in the U.S.
I saw the paleo draft (actually I saw an early version, and sent Keith some minor
comments). It looks very good at present--will be interesting to see how they deal w/
the contrarian criticisms--there will be many. I'm hoping they'll stand firm (I believe
they will--I think the chapter has the right sort of personalities for that)...

Just sent loads of station data to Scott. Make sure he documents everything better

there
is a Freedom of Information Act now in the UK, I think I'll delete the file

. Does your similar act in the US force you to respond to enquiries within
20 days? - our does ! The UK works on precedents, so the first request will test it.
We also
have a data protection act, which I will hide behind
. Tom Wigley has sent me a worried
email when he heard about it - thought people could ask him for his model code. He
has retired officially from UEA so he can hide behind that. IPR should be relevant
here,
but I can see me getting into an argument with someone at UEA who'll say we must adhere
to it !
Are you planning a complete reworking of your paleo series? Like to be involved if
you are.
Had a quick look at Ch 6 on paleo of AR4. The MWP side bar references Briffa, Bradley,
Mann, Jones, Crowley, Hughes, Diaz - oh and Lamb ! Looks OK, but I can't see it
getting past all the stages in its present form. MM and SB get dismissed. All the
right
emphasis is there, but the wording on occasions will be crucial. I expect this to be
the
main contentious issue in AR4. I expect (hope) that the MSU one will fade away. It
seems
the more the CCSP (the thing Tom Karl is organizing) looks into Christy and Spencer's
series, the more problems/issues they are finding. I might be on the NRC review panel,
so will keep you informed.
Rob van Dorland is an LA on the Radiative Forcing chapter, so he's a paleo expert

Dear Ray, Mike and Malcolm,
Once Tim's got a diagram here we'll send that either later today or
first thing tomorrow.
I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps
to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from
1961 for Keith's to hide the decline
. Mike's series got the annual
land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land
N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999
for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with
data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998.
Thanks for the comments, Ray.

Keith,

I also figured this might be what you say, and I understand where you've
coming from. This represents a bit of a dillemma too, as it seems
unprofessional at best that Zorita and Von Storch have not made their
code public, when we of course have made ours public.

There are other sources where we could have gotten the GKSS data--I'm
checking w/ Caspar for confirmation. I know that the Cane group has it,
and I believe other groups have it nows too. So frankly, it is
effectively now 'public domain' whether VS and Zorita like it or not!

I propose, hoping that their is no loud objection, that we will include
a line in our response indicating that we have confirmed that we get
similar results using the GKSS Erik simulation. We'll leave it at that.
We don't need to show that result necessarily, unless the
editor/reviewers demand to see proof
, and we certaintly don't have to
reveal where we got the GKSS data. As I mentioned, there are enough
groups out there that now have it, that VS and Zorita would not know the
source, and we would not reveal it.

We feel as if we cannot completely hide the fact that we have confirmed
our result w/ GKSS, hence the "compromise" suggested above. Meanwhile,
we can pursue a more thorough, official collaborative effort in the future.

Thoughts on this?

thanks,

mike

Tim,

I know about what Matthews has done. He did so without contacting Sarah
or me. He uses a statistical emulation method that can never account for
the full range of uncertainties. I would not trust it outside the
calibration zone -- so I doubt that it can work well for (e.g.)
stabilization cases. As far as I know it has not been peer reviewed.
Furthermore, unless he has illegally got hold of the TAR version of the
model, what he has done can only be an emulation of the SAR version.

Personally, I regard this as junk science (i.e., not science at all).

Matthews is doing the community a considerable disservice.

Tom.

PS Re CR, I do not know the best way to handle the specifics of the
editoring. Hans von Storch is partly to blame -- he encourages the
publication of crap science 'in order to stimulate debate'. One approach
is to go direct to the publishers and point out the fact that their
journal is perceived as being a medium for disseminating misinformation
under the guise of refereed work. I use the word 'perceived' here, since
whether it is true or not is not what the publishers care about -- it is
how the journal is seen by the community that counts
.

I think we could get a large group of highly credentialed scientists to
sign such a letter -- 50+ people.

Note that I am copying this view only to Mike Hulme and Phil Jones.
Mike's idea to get editorial board members to resign will probably not
work -- must get rid of von Storch too, otherwise holes will eventually
fill up with people like Legates, Balling, Lindzen, Michaels, Singer,
etc. I have heard that the publishers are not happy with von Storch, so
the above approach might remove that hurdle too.

These emails are a death blow for the "global warming" scam artists. And the corrupt officials, scientists, consultants and corporatists who conspired to profit from the scam should be run out of town.

Update II: Thomas Lifson: "Climate fraud continues unraveling."

Hu Jintao Wants a Kiss from Barack Obama

Last night's opening skit on SNL pilloried President Obama's trip to China and his attempts to lecture its leaders. President Hu Jintao responded by coarsely reminding Obama which country owes the other $800 billion. Obama replied with a firm promise that the money is certain be repaid.

INTERPRETER: Are we? Are we going to get our money? Because from what I read your country is in the middle of a serious recession.

OBAMA: Uh, while this is true, there are signs that our bailout has steadied the financial markets and our stimulus package has been effective in fixing the job crisis.

(Hu Jintao "speaks.")

INTERPRETER: I'm curious. How many jobs has it created?

OBAMA: Uh, so far, none.

(Hu Jintao "speaks.")

INTERPRETER: I see.

OBAMA: But our health care reform plan, we're confident, is going to lead to enormous savings.

(Hu Jintao "speaks.")

INTERPRETER: How exactly is extending health care coverage to 30 million people going to save you money?

OBAMA: I... don't know.

(Hu Jintao "speaks.")
...
INTERPRETER: You know, as I listen to you, I am noticing that each of your plans to save money involves spending even more money. This does not inspire confidence.

OBAMA: I assure you, you're going to get your money.
...
(Hu Jintao "speaks.")

INTERPRETER: Will you kiss me?

OBAMA: --- --- --- I'm sorry?

(Hu Jintao "speaks.")

INTERPRETER: Will you kiss me?

OBAMA: --- I don't understand...

(Hu Jintao begins screaming)

INTERPRETER: I like to be kissed while SOMEONE IS DOING SEX TO ME!

Funny, in a bittersweet way. After all, Doug Hornig of Casey Research poses the serious question alluded to by SNL: what if they stop buying our debt?

As recently as 1970, foreign holders of U.S. debt were essentially non-existent. But their slice of our obligation pie has steadily increased, especially over the past two decades, until now foreign governments and international investors hold about 35% of Treasuries, as the following chart reveals.

Of about $11 trillion in U.S. debt, foreigners have about $3.8 trillion, with China in the lead at nearly $1 trillion and Japan not far behind at around $750 billion.

Most likely, though, this trend has already leveled off. The Chinese, Japanese, Russians, and Indians have openly announced their decision to cut back on further purchases and existing holdings of U.S. government debt. Beyond that, the source of funds previously allocated to their purchases -- trade surpluses -- has declined sharply with the recession. As a consequence, going forward, foreign buying is more apt to shrink than increase... As the chart below illustrates, sales of long-term bonds to foreigners are way down.

So what does all this mean? ...It means that a big chunk of our prosperity during the past twenty years was due to a trade deficit that put billions of dollars into the hands of foreigners, who then turned around and bought Treasuries with them, helping the U.S. government finance its massive deficit spending. That’s over -- and the unwinding process has just begun.

Yet federal deficit spending, far from reflecting this reality, has grown by leaps and bounds. But who will finance it? Let’s extend our first chart out a few years.

As you can see, we project that foreign participation has plateaued. U.S. private domestic investors can probably increase their holdings moderately, now that households are consuming less and saving more, and financial institutions have money to invest in Treasury paper. The agencies and trusts (like Social Security) are really not a part of the equation, but rather reflect programs on 'auto-pilot' and quickly headed to the point where they will negatively impact, not help, the deficits.

Adding it all together, even under the most conservative of assumptions, there are simply not enough buyers to cover the accelerating federal deficits. That leaves the lender of last resort, the Federal Reserve, as the only remaining candidate to satisfy the government’s grotesque appetite for funding. There is no viable alternative.

The Fed will take up the slack in the only way open to it, by printing money out of thin air and exchanging it for promises from the Treasury. That means an escalation of monetary inflation and, somewhere down the road, serious price inflation as well. We don’t know exactly when that will happen, only that it must.

Those who don't learn from history are indeed doomed to repeat it. For this reason, an ironclad case can be made that today's Democrat Party is psychologically unfit to serve.
