Porky Pig battles Arab Suicide Bombers... in 1941!

Hollywood touched upon some interesting cultural themes in this short cartoon film first shown in 1941.

You can see the whole clip at TAB. Somehow, I feel quite certain this is the fault of American intolerance. Or Israelis. Or Bush. Or all three.

A Turning Point for the Ground Zero Mosque?

Dan from New York writes:

All politics are local, and even though your president stepped into some serious NYC dog poop recently, that rule still applies to the Ground Zero mosque. Local political pressure is going to decide if the mosque gets built a punch ball's throw from the grave of 3000 victims of Islamic terror - and local political pressure is slowly building against it.

Yesterday, the Speaker of the New York State Assembly, Democrat Sheldon Silver of NYC, came out against the mosque. Silver, little-known outside the state, is New York's most powerful politician. His opposition to the site could be crucial, allowing other state and city pols to slipstream behind him. Moreover, 9/11 is fast-approaching and so is a mega demonstration on that solemn day downtown. That should keep the pot boiling and their feet to the fire. All in all, with over 60% of New York voters opposing the mosque at Ground Zero, opposing the mosque is becoming the smart political thing to do.

Most important, this chain of events turns the table. It trains the spotlight on the stonewalling Imam Rauf. Is he the healer and good neighbor he wants us to believe he is? Is he one of us or one of them? Just where do his loyalties lie? New Yorkers (and America) should have our answers soon.

In Touch: Deb Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) proclaims "the recession is over"

Rejoice, Floridians: just below this sentence and to the left is the kind of dynamic intellect representing you in Washington.

Interviewed on Fox News by Greta Van Sustern this evening, Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D) told viewers that the Great Recession is over. Those were her exact words: "the recession is over."

This should come as uplifting news for business owners and the unemployed, all of whom are suffering through one of the worst fiscal downturns in decades.

Wasser-Schultz is one of the more outrageous Democrats in Congress -- difficult though that may be to believe -- for her serial policy failures. For months now, WaSchultz has been proclaiming the success of the Obama Democrats' economic leadership. Plus health care. She really likes socialized health care.

...Insisting that her Congress and the Obama Administration are focused on “job creation and turning the economy around”, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz unloaded a whopper of a claim. As she was directly asked about our nation’s 10 percent unemployment rate, Rep. Wasserman-Schultz made the very dubious assertion that, “On the pace that we’re on with job creation in the last four months – if we continue on that pace – all the leading economists say it is likely that we will have created more jobs in this year than in the entire Bush Presidency."

Did I just hear a lie detector explode somewhere in the distance?

And this is the same rocket scientist who claimed a few months ago that there was no individual mandate in ObamaCare, stating: "We actually have not required in this law that you carry health insurance."

Even fifth graders know that's a freaking lie.

So what can you and I do? Support Karen Harrington for Congress. Seriously, donate a few bucks.

Delightful: DHS Now Looking to Spy On Its Own Employees

Amazing. Janet Napolitano's Department of Homeland Security doesn't want to keep tabs on illegal aliens, but does want to secretly monitor its own employees. Jacob Goodwin at Government Security News spotted an intriguing and bizarre RFP (Request for Proposal) from DHS this week.

Why would the Federal Protective Service want to spy on itself?

A recent solicitation issued by the Federal Protective Service unit of DHS for what it calls a 'Video Surveillance Rapid Deployment Kit' contained an intriguing requirement among its roster of technical specifications: 'Hidden internal camera and microphone that will allow a remote user to see and hear the operator of the system.'

That sounds as if a boss back at [DHS] wants to be able to watch and listen to the person actually carrying the video camera, without that camera person even knowing that he or she is being watched.

Strange.

...[After we asked, here's] what Michael Keegan, chief of public affairs for the Federal Protective Service, told GSN on August 17... “Due to operational security and potential officer safety concerns we are not at liberty to go into the details of the system,” Keegan added, “but rest assured that the equipment will be employed for security and criminal investigative purposes within the parameters of the law.”

That certainly didn’t tell us very much.

...The statement of work that accompanies the solicitation, which was issued on August 16 by the FPS office in Kansas City, MO, explains that the system ought to be transportable by one person and be able to “monitor critical assets and remote locations,” both indoors and outdoors... "The surveillance camera software should be navigated by a 17-inch touch-screen monitor accompanied by a special industrial-grade back-lit keyboard for nighttime surveillance operations..."

Plus, approved users should be able to log-in to the wireless camera system, with their cell phone, laptop or compatible wireless device, to look at live feeds or previously-shot video stored on the system’s DVR.

The Federal Protective Service provided five pages of detailed technical specifications for the preferred DVR and surveillance cameras, but never got around to answering a fundamental question: What is the central mission for this rapidly deployable system?

What indeed?

Don't look for the ACLU to generate the same level of outrage over this sort of Orwellian activity as it once raised for the Bush administration's wire-tapping of terrorists.

And I wonder what the public sector unions think of this sort of monitoring activity? Fully supportive, no doubt.

Nation of Cowards: Eric Holder Hiring Linguists Who Can Understand African-American Dialects. Seriously.

Remember: they're uniters, not dividers.

This is non-fiction: an RFP from Eric Holder's Department of Justice, as publicized by The Smoking Gun, is fairly outrageous. In short, the DEA wants "Black English" linguistic experts to decipher the audio recordings of bugged calls.

Thought experiment: I wonder what legacy media would say if the Bush administration had tried something like this?

Ground Zero Imam: Despite freeing tens of millions of Muslims from despots, U.S. has more blood on its hands than Al Qaeda

Sounds tolerant to me.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf: "We tend to forget, in the West, that the United States has more Muslim blood on its hands than al Qaida has on its hands of innocent non Muslims...

...You may remember that the US-led sanctions against Iraq led to the death of over half a million Iraqi children. This has been documented by the United Nations. And when Madeleine Albright, who has become a friend of mine over the last couple of years, when she was Secretary of State and was asked whether this was worth it, said it was worth it."

Rauf's screed is an abomination.

George W. Bush freed tens of millions of Muslims from the Taliban and Saddam Hussein's despotic regime.

And the United States gets no credit from Rauf and his ilk.

Say, let's have him build a tolerance mosque in the Ground Zero debris field!

Please Congratulate Shane Goldmacher, Author of the 'Most Biased Top Story Ever Published In Any Free-World Newspaper'

That is how Tim Cavanaugh describes the verbal stylings of the Los Angeles Times' Shane Goldmacher.

In one of its many books of guidelines, the Los Angeles Times instructs employees to write so that a reader "cannot detect" the political views of the reporter. If there's any place where you'd expect this iron-age rule to be followed, it's in an A1, top-right-column story, which is traditionally considered the leading news story of the day.

So it's not Shane Goldmacher's opinion, just straight news, that the lame-duck governor of California is sending a "gubernatorial ransom note" and "holding the state hostage" in his budget negotiations, thus repeating a "shameful chapter in California's history" and alienating cooperative Democrats with his "ultimatums." It is furthermore objectively true that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is doing this not just from an honest desire to fix Sacramento's chronic budgeting problems but out of personal pique, that he is trying to retrofit a "fiscal system that has bedeviled California -- and him -- for years."

Sounds even-keeled to me.

Goldmacher seems awfully proud of Blue State governance. From the $578 million K-12 public school building to delayed school payments of roughly $3 billion, there's a lot for him to kvell over.

If you ever find yourself in Goldmacher's presence, please don't mention the public sector unions that control Democrat legislators. He still believes in the Tooth Fairy and the success of socialism.

Don't Question Her Patriotism, But Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA) Holds Huge Stake in Supplier of Military and Space Electronics to Iran

It turns out that one of California's radical Congressional Representatives is a bit more radical than she'd let on. Jane Harman (D-CA) appears to hold between $5 million and $20 million in companies that provide military and space electronics to Iran.

I have learned of financial ties between incumbent multi-millionaire Jane Harman and the distribution of "dual use" electronic goods in Iran. AKG Acoustics of Austria, a wholly owned subsidiary of Harman International, a U.S. company, distributes electronic products in Iran under the name of Fowzi Electronics, Ltd in Tehran, Iran. That information is corroborated on AKG's website and by recent reports in news blogs. In other words, AKG is materially assisting Iran's state sponsorship of terrorism.

Incumbent multi-millionaire Harman's financial disclosure form lists ownership of shares approximating $5 million to $20 million in value in Harman International. AKG is best reputed for the commercial and industrial use of recording devices, speakers, microphones, headphones, and wireless communication. But this equipment falls into dual-use technology that may also be employed in defense or aerospace.

Gee, you'd think our legacy media might have picked up on this story somewhere along the line. Maybe 60 Minutes or Family Guy, which are about equally respected.

While we wait for the media to run with this scoop, you may want to consider supporting Harman's challenger -- Mattie Fein -- who wants to put an end to Harman's outrageous support of a terrorist regime. And the anti-Harman video on her website is plenty entertaining.

Blago: Feds should reconsider talk of a retrial or someone at the White House could get hoit

Interviewed on Fox News Sunday, embattled ex-Governor Rod Blagojevich said he would call a a gaggle of high-profile Democrats to testify for the defense should federal prosecutors attempt a retrial.

Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich said Sunday that he would call a host of high-profile witnesses -- including White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel -- to testify if he is retried on corruption charges.

...Federal prosecutors have vowed to retry Blagojevich after a jury deadlocked on all but one of 24 criminal counts the government brought against the fiery Democrat.

The Hill named Emanuel, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), DSCC Chairman Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL) as potential defense witnesses.

Not named, but likely to be among those considered as witnesses are senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett -- one of Obama's favorites for his vacated seat -- as well as various SEIU officials.

Or, as I like to call them, Obama's Puppetmasters.

Iran: Yes, We Can!

By Mordechai Kedar

The Bushehr reactor was built to produce electricity, no doubt, and the Russians are obliged to share supervision with international bodies to make sure that the Iranians do not use it for military nuclear purposes. This reactor’s objective lies elsewhere. When the reactor is connected to the electricity grid in a few months it will begin to ease the pressure on the Iranian energy sector and reduce the impact of sanctions on the import of refined fuel. Therefore, the reactor itself does not contribute materially to Iran’s nuclear weapons program. The problem with it is more subtle than that.

The problem focuses on two other issues: One is the training of Iranian scientists in a way that can advance the military nuclear project, since the experience and expertise they will gain from operating the Iranian power reactor will serve them in the weapons project. Neither the Russians nor the world can hope to monitor this leak of knowledge. What’s more, the Iranians probably do not need more outside assistance. At this point, their accumulated knowledge from other sources such as North Korea and Pakistan is already enough to bring them to the bomb.

The other issue is the encouragement and morale which the ayatollahs derive from the opening of the Bushehr reactor. In their view, the Western-Christian world is crumbling and divided; so mush so, that Russia - which is an integral part of it - helped them on a crucial issue which the U.S., "the Great Satan," has vigorously opposed for many years. This affirms their belief that Iranian wisdom, wit and determination are able to manipulate the U.S., Russia, Europe and China to such a degree that now nothing can stand in their way to a nuclear bomb.

The International system was designed following the Second World War to deny any single state the ability to impose its agenda by force and weapons on the rest of the world. Iran proved yesterday that she could impose its agenda on the world, and the reactor at Bushehr gives the ayatollahs evidence that there is no power on earth which can resist their global intentions.

Today, the cheer that’s being shouted with broad smiles and high-fives in the corridors of power in Iran is actually in English: Yes, we can!

Dr. Mordechai Kedar (Ph.D. Bar-Ilan U.) Served for 25 years in IDF Military Intelligence specializing in Arab political discourse, Arab mass media, Islamic groups and the Syrian domestic arena. A lecturer in Arabic at Bar-Ilan U., he is also an expert on Israeli Arabs.

Control Freaks, Chapter Eleventy Billion: San Fran Ban of Happy Meals Imminent

In the future when I post an article on the constant encroachment by Democrats on our individual liberties, I intend to use the prefix Control Freaks. Because that's the best two-word summary I can come up with for the inane, arbitrary dictates dreamed up by the likes of Bloomberg (not the news service, the idiot mayor), who wants to ban salt in Manhattan restaurants.

San Francisco -- or, as I like to call it, Moonbase Pelosi -- is the latest local government to demonstrate a complete lack of restraint when it comes to regulating the citizenry. In this case, it appears a lunatic somehow broke into a meeting of the city's board of supervisors and introduced legislation to ban Happy Meals.

Supervisor Mar introduces Healthy Meal Incentive legislation, which sets nutritional standards for restaurant food that is accompanied by toys or other youth focused incentive items. This legislation is aimed at promoting healthy eating habits and to address issues related to childhood obesity...

...Fast food restaurants target children and youth by offering toys and other incentive items. The Healthy Meal Incentive legislation would encourage restaurants to provide healthier meal options. To provide an incentive item, meals must contain fruits and vegetables, not exceed 600 calories or 200 calories for a single food item and must not have beverages that have excessive fat or sugar.”

These leftist nutbags want to control your meals, your health care, your light bulbs, the size of your toilet tanks, what kind of cars you drive, how much water flows through your shower head, and every other aspect of your lives.

And, trivial though the Happy Meal example may sound, it is yet another reminder that these Democrat control freaks are bent on nothing less than tyranny. In fact, someday, they must hope to achieve a totalitarian form of government. Because they don't trust the individual. They don't believe in personal responsibility. And -- because they willfully defy their own oaths of office -- they are rapidly destroying the fabric of our society.
