Bankrupt 'Green Jobs Company' Received $535 Million in Stimulus Money, Was Coincidentally Headed by Huge Obama Contributor

If this Republic survives the Obama presidency, I truly look forward to the first comprehensive, tell-all biography of our 44th president. Because when it comes to stories like this one, I'm betting we've only seen the tip of the iceberg.

The Obama 'Green Jobs' Scam That Redistributed Half-a-Billion Dollars to His Political Backers

Solyndra, Inc. was supposed to have showcased the effectiveness of the Obama administration’s stimulus and green jobs initiatives, but instead it has become the center of congressional attention for waste, fraud and abuse of such programs.

According to a Feb. 17 letter signed by Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton, Michigan Republican, and Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Cliff Stearns, Florida Republican, to Energy Secretary Steven Chu, the Fremont, Calif.-based solar panel manufacturer should never have received a $535 million loan guarantee from the stimulus.*

...The Energy Department estimated in a March 20, 2009 press release that the loan guarantee would create 3,000 construction jobs and a further 1,000 jobs after the plant opened... And President Barack Obama and Vice President Joseph Biden each personally showcased Solyndra as an example of how stimulus dollars were at work creating jobs, during appearances at the company over the course of the following year...

...Obama made similar claims in a May 26, 2010 speech at the plant, but the 1,000 jobs he and Biden touted in their respective speeches failed to materialize...

Instead, Solyndra announced on Nov. 3 it planned to postpone expanding the plant, which put the taxpayers on the hook to the tune of $390.5 million taxpayers... It also announced that it no longer planned to hire the 1,000 workers that Obama and Biden had touted in their speeches and that it planned to close one of its older factories and planned to lay-off 135 temporary or contract workers and 40 full-time employees.

A closer look at the company shows it has never turned a profit since it was founded in 2005... And Solyndra’s auditor declared that “the company has suffered recurring losses, negative cash flows since inception and has a net stockholders’ deficit that, among other factors, [that] raise substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a growing concern” in ... March 2010...

A June 2010 Wall Street Journal report indicating that Solyndra’s majority owner, Oklahoma billionaire George Kaiser, was a major fundraiser for the 2008 Obama-Biden campaign...

In other words, your kids and grandkids will be paying back that half-a-billion dollars (with interest) -- which was borrowed from the Chinese -- to pay off a huge Obama contributor (coincidentally).

Destroyers, Stealth Fighters, Aircraft Carriers and Drones: China's Military Buildup is Anything But Benign

China is unquestionably behind the U.S. when it comes to defense technology, but there is little doubt it is ratcheting up dramatically.

...Some time ago it was revealed that in its rush to "catch up" with western military technology, China has now developed an aircraft carrier and a stealth fighter (reverse engineering efficiency notwithstanding)...

Now, it appears that China has developed its first ever unmanned drone...

...Wired has the latest: "It was another big reveal in a long history of them...

...Six months after the Chinese air force let the first photos of its new stealth fighter leak online, Beijing’s military has "accidentally" showed off another secretive weapon system: a small drone, apparently used to scout ahead of China’s fast-growing fleet of warships...

...Details of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle — gleaned entirely from a snapshot (PDF) taken by a Japanese navy patrol plane last week — are sketchy, at best. But the new UAV certainly represents a step forward in China’s development of American-style spy drones." Of course, the "leak" is anything but, and is merely another attempt to demonstrate its ongoing scramble to keep up with the US across all verticals.

And with Democrat politicians willing to sell America's technologies for campaign donations (Bill Clinton's Loral debacle being the most infamous and treasonous case), odds are the PRC will catch up far sooner than anyone anticipates.

Which makes Ron Paul's insane anti-military alliance with the hard left all the more egregious. America must be strong, period. And anyone who says otherwise is either ill-informed or a kook.

Grim Milestone: Obama HHS to send spies into doctors' offices

Or, as Don Surber puts it, "Obama’s new war is on doctors."

President Obama’s solution to a shortage of doctors caused by Obamacare? Spy on them. ...Of course, that is not the spin from the New York Times:

Alarmed by a shortage of primary care doctors, Obama administration officials are recruiting a team of “mystery shoppers” to pose as patients, call doctors’ offices and request appointments to see how difficult it is for people to get care when they need it.

The administration says the survey will address a “critical public policy problem”: the increasing shortage of primary care doctors, including specialists in internal medicine and family practice. It will also try to discover whether doctors are accepting patients with private insurance while turning away those in government health programs that pay lower reimbursement rates.

...“I don’t like the idea of the government snooping,” said Dr. Raymond Scalettar, an internist in Washington. “It’s a pernicious practice — Big Brother tactics, which should be opposed.”

So, American Medical Association, how’s that support of Obamacare working out for you?

The AMA doesn't care: its leadership is getting amply rewarded for its support of America's largest entitlement program.

When I sent Doctor Jay the article, he responded:

Thanks,

Actually, I was aware of it. What a waste of resources.

And what do they do with this info? Command Docs to accept government insurance?

Precisely, Jay.

In a wonderfully written article in National Affairs by Avik Roy, the imminent and inevitable collapse of Medicare is described in plainspoken terms that even liberals should be able to comprehend.

Something like the Ryan approach will be crucial to the future of Medicare. The program is set to go bankrupt in a decade, and seems past the point of small fixes or yet another tweak to the price-control formula (as proposed under Obamacare). A broader reform must come. Medicare's history, its importance to the seniors who depend on it, and the nature of its fiscal problems suggest that such a reform must take account of six factors.

First, we must remember that Medicare's primary achievement — protecting economically vulnerable retirees — is a salutary one, the preservation of which must be the cornerstone of reform ... As many have suggested (and as the Ryan budget proposes), reforms should be implemented only for future enrollees age 55 or younger, in order to allow for a gradual transition into a reformed system, and to preserve benefits for those who have long planned their retirements around the existing system.

Second, we must appreciate the power of cost-sharing ... from 2003 to 2010, Medicare's prescription-drug benefit contained significant cost-sharing provisions, in plans administered entirely by private insurers, and the program came in under budget as a result...

...Third, we must introduce means-testing into Medicare...

...Fourth, we should index the Medicare retirement age to life expectancy...

Fifth, we must address the substantial problem of Medicare fraud. It is estimated that $60 to $100 billion of annual Medicare spending — between 8% and 13% of the total — is fraudulent. Medicare processes over one billion claims per year, and is required by law to reimburse claims within 15 to 30 days. This makes it almost impossible to prevent criminal activity. Private administration of the program would do much to incentivize the development of more thorough auditing practices.

Finally, Medicare must evolve into a system in which individuals can shop for value in insurance plans...

This moment in our politics — when our long-term fiscal situation has suddenly captured public attention — might just offer the opportunity to attempt such [steps]. It is an opportunity we must not allow to slip by.

But instead of seriously addressing their own collapsing entitlement programs, Democrats instead demagogue serious plans like that proposed by Paul Ryan. They mock those would repair the system. They run commercials showing Republicans pushing Grandma off a cliff.

And they will spy on doctors and eventually enslave them. Too harsh a term? What would you call compelling doctors to work at wages dictated by the state? To serve the federal government in locations specified by the state --- whether they like it or not?

That, my friends, is the inevitable result of Obamacare. Indentured servitude at best, slavery at worst. In other words, Obamacare has nothing at all to do with improving health care in America. It is intended to control you. Your body, the physical container of your soul, so that the government -- not God and not family -- becomes the most important entity in your life.

It is a totalitarian system and antithetical to the America's founding, traditions and history.

I urge you to remember in 2012.

Good news from the failed blue state of California: number of retired teachers with $100K pensions jumped 650% in last six years

As if California didn't have enough problems -- from a massive budget deficit to runaway illegal immigration -- news that the powerful public sector unions are raping the system should certainly cheer taxpayers.

Thousands of newly retired school administrators will earn more during retirement than most Californians will make during their working careers.

The number of educators receiving $100,000-plus annual pensions jumped 650 percent from 2005 to 2011, going from 700 to 5,400, according to a Bee review of data from the California State Teachers' Retirement System... [these retirees] get millions more than they put into the system.

Booming administrator salaries are largely behind the trend. Public school superintendents, on average, earned $168,000 in base pay last year, roughly 56 percent more than they did 10 years ago... A series of benefit enhancements a decade ago also explain the rise... as a result, more than a third of the state's six-figure pensioners earn more each year in retirement than they ever did on the job.

...Like other public pension systems, CalSTRS has financial problems. The value of its assets isn't enough to cover what it has promised in benefits. System officials estimate CalSTRS will be unable to fund benefits in about 30 years unless the Legislature implements higher contribution rates for school districts, employees or the state.

California isn't alone. The Manhattan Institute estimates that teacher pension systems around the country are, in aggregate, $1 trillion underfunded.

But California and its ludicrous governor, a product of the public sector unions, are completely off the rails. Like the blue states of Illinois and New York, the inevitable result of Democrat governance -- bankruptcy -- is obvious for all to see.

'Just When You Thought Our Fiscal Nightmare Couldn't Get Any Worse'

It is anything but cheery, but David Limbaugh's latest at Human Events is a must-read for every American.

...Projections of the nation's impending doom have worsened: We face destruction if we don't act, and the crisis is accelerating.

Last year, the CBO predicted our national debt would be 91 percent of gross domestic product in 2021. Now, just a year later, it is projected to be 101 percent in 2021.

It gets worse. The debt is forecasted to be 150 percent of GDP by 2030 and 200 percent by 2037. And, if you can even imagine this, it will proliferate more rapidly thereafter. On our present course, by 2035, federal interest payments will be 9 percent of our entire economy, compared with 1 percent today.

Adding insult to injury, Obamacare, which Obama fraudulently sold as an indispensable component of balancing the budget, will greatly drive up health care costs. The CBO says that mandatory federal spending on health care will increase by 86 percent, from 5.6 percent of GDP presently to 10.4 percent over the next 24 years. Don't say we didn't warn you... Adding aggravation to insult is the recently discovered "glitch" in Obamacare that allows for more than 3 million middle-class Americans to qualify for Medicaid...

What Limbaugh alludes to is a devastating problem: the estimates of Medicare collapsing in only a dozen years and Social Security imploding shortly thereafter assumes rosy growth and hiring projections that can't possibly happen in the current economic climate. In short, these disastrous entitlement programs will collapse much sooner than anyone is willing to admit.

Consider the current situation:

Real US GDP has risen 0.8% over the 13 quarters since the current recession began, compared to an average increase of 9.9% in past recoveries.

Obama’s trillion dollar stimulus failed.

The unemployment rate is still above a 9%.

Obama is the worst jobs president since the Great Depression overseeing the worst housing downturn since the Great Depression and the worst slide in home prices since the Great Depression.

And, just to make it official: "The Obama recovery is the worst ever since the Great Depression".

President Obama took what should have been a normal, run-of-the-mill recession and turned it into a full-blown depression.

By the time his first term ends, Obama will have nearly doubled the U.S. national debt. And just think: he spent it on a series of utterly failed programs like the "Stimulus", HAMP, Cash-for-Clunkers, Weatherization, Green Jobs Initiatives, Obamacare, "Banking Reform", drilling moratoriums, First-Time Home-Buyer Tax Credits, auto company takeovers and QE2, to name but a few.

These are the disastrous policy failures that our children and grandchildren will have to pay for, in the unlikely event our financial system hasn't already collapsed. This is Democrat child abuse, plain and simple.

Remember in 2012.

Sharia Today: Dearborn, Washington DC and CAIR

Each day we seem to read a few more reminders that Islam in the U.S. is a political system wrapped in the protective coating of a religion. Unfortunately, said political system is utterly and completely at odds with the Constitution and America's founding document, the Declaration of Independence.

Today's Exhibit A: "Peaceful Muslims threw rocks, bottles at Dearborn Arab fest."

Although 10 arrests were made in connection with various anti-Islamic protests during last weekend’s Arab International Festival, the Dearborn City Council commended Police Chief Ronald Haddad Monday night...

...Several more arrests occurred within the Arab International Festival on both Friday and Sunday, as several anti-Muslim Christian groups vocally attacked Islam in and around the free speech zone guarded by Dearborn police and Wayne County sheriffs. The demonstrations drew the ire of hundreds–if not thousands–of festivalgoers, some of whom threw rocks, bottles and insults at the evangelist groups.

Despite the sometimes violent responses–a Sunday scuffle led to the arrest of one of the self-proclaimed “Bible Believers," as well as the man who attacked him–Dearborn officials were generally pleased with the weekend...

The violence occurred because last year's event was attended by a handful of Christians who tried to hand out proselytizing material. The conclusions?

• Dearborn Muslims and Arabs are so volatile and prone to violence that even the bizarre “free speech zones” have to be protected by police
• Some Muslims and Arabs threw rocks, bottles, and insults at those in the police-protection required free speech zones
• Despite police presence, Muslims and Arabs (and leftist tools) still responded violently with multiple arrests for physically attacking non-Muslims
• Dearborn officials were pleased with the Muslim – Arab response to free speech

Today's Exhibit B: a "Shariah Law Neighborhood [Will be] Established Six Blocks From the White House".

An investment arm of oil-rich Qatar is putting up the equity needed to fund the massive [$700 million] CityCenterDC project, officials said moments before breaking ground Monday at the site of the old downtown convention center six blocks from the White House...

...Even before the Qatari investors became involved, [developers] Hines and Archstone determined that leasing to banks would not help them... [But] their hesitancy on bank branches meshed with the policies of their financial partners, who adhere to the restrictions of Shariah, or Islamic law, including the ban on collecting interest. Restaurants will be able to serve liquor, but retailers whose primary business involves selling alcohol will not be allowed, Mr. Alsup said.

...So, no bars or banks for the biggest downtown construction project in recent memory! As Bill Alsup alluded to, banks aren’t all that great for a city streetscape, and it’s admirable that they planned to forego such a dependable and high-rent-paying tenant. It’s less advantageous, though, to not have business devoted primarily to selling alcohol. CityCenterDC is unlikely to be plagued by liquor stores, but it could definitely use a few places to be out at night drinking without getting a full dinner. Could Qatari money turn CityCenterDC into more of a black hole than the last piece of the puzzle in a living downtown?

And in related good news, the "Hamas-Tied CAIR [Has] Release[d] Its First Annual Hit List.

[CAIR's] report lists the "worst" Islamophobes and the "best" of those pushing back against growing anti-Muslim sentiment in American society and presents an initial set of recommendations for Muslims and Americans of other faiths to challenge Islamophobia.

Those commended for pushing back against Islamophobia include New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart, and MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, among others.

Those listed as actively promoting Islamophobia included Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, co-founders of the anti-Muslim hate group Stop the Islamization of America (SIOA); Act! for America leader Brigitte Gabriel; and GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich...

Recommendations in this first annual report are directed toward American Muslims and their institutions. The report states: "This is a reflection of our belief that American Muslims must take the lead in pushing back against Islamophobia. ... In a future report, we will offer recommendations to the public and private sectors."

At some point, the vast reservoir of goodwill possessed by the American people towards people of all cultures, colors and faiths will run dry.

And it will have been exhausted by countless exhibitions of intolerance and violence, exhibited on a daily basis around the world.

In pictures: the 'devastating ad' that calls out Obama's jobs failures

I think this is as good a 30-second overview of Obama's economic record as you'll find.

Help out here.

ICE agents warn Americans "to brace themselves for what's coming" as catch-and-release of illegals -- caught committing other crimes -- begins

You may have read that President Obama is now quietly offering a quasi-amnesty for illegal immigrants in a cynical attempt to rebuild his voting base.

Under his direction, new prosecution rules* put ICE agents in a bureaucratic box if they choose to prosecute illegals, with dozens of new, subjective guidelines. In essence, Obama is forcing ICE agents to release illegals even if they are caught committing crimes.

Just yesterday in Pennsylvania, ICE advised police to release three illegals who had been charged with speeding, driving without a license, without insurance, without registration, and providing police with false identification.

In response, the head of the ICE Agents' Union, which represents nearly 8,000 immigration enforcement personnel, has leveled withering criticism at the Obama administration for wantonly endangering American citizens.

"Any American concerned about immigration needs to brace themselves for what's coming," said Chris Crane, President of the National ICE Council which represents approximately 7,000 ICE agents, officers and employees, "this is just one of many new ICE policies in queue aimed at stopping the enforcement of U.S. immigration laws in the United States. Unable to pass its immigration agenda through legislation, the Administration is now implementing it through agency policy ... ICE worked hand-in-hand with immigrants rights groups, but excluded its own officers."

Agents say the policy is a "law enforcement nightmare" developed by the Administration to win votes at the expense of sound and responsible law enforcement policy. "The desires of foreign nationals illegally in the United States were the framework from which these policies were developed," Crane said, "the result is a means for every person here illegally to avoid arrest or detention, as officers we will never know who we can or cannot arrest."

..."Our officers are already under orders not to make arrests or even talk to foreign nationals in most cases unless another agency has already arrested them; you won't find that written in any public ICE policy."

..."I think the writing is on the wall for every person concerned about good government and effective immigration reforms - the things happening at ICE represent neither, said Crane, we are asking everyone to please email or call your Congressman and Senators immediately and ask them to help stop what's happening at ICE, we desperately need your help."

President Obama's new rules for U.S. immigration agents -- which can be legitimately described as a stealth amnesty -- are recklessly endangering American citizens.

Write your Congressman now and demand an investigation of ICE. Be polite, but firm. The lives of your family members may depend on it.

I'm no lawyer, but it would seem that this program and others like it -- Operation Gunrunner, for example -- could very well rise to impeachment level.

* Exercising Prosecutorial Discretion Consistent with the Priorities ofthe Agency for the Apprehension, Detention, and Removal of Aliens (PDF)

Hat tip: News you may have missed.

Foolproof method of avoiding the TSA's grope-down procedures

Not only can you avoid all of the intrusive TSA groping screening procedures when entering the country, you can also bypass customs. Just follow the example of the 700 illegal aliens who entered the United States using a single trail in Arizona over the course of one month last year, documented by a lone, courageous citizen. These trespassers didn't get groped or scanned or background-checked or tested for contagious diseases. Thanks to the Democrat Party -- which wants open borders -- no one gave them even a cursory look.

Talk of President Obama's DREAM Act-by-fiat is reportedly driving the numbers of illegal immigrants up.

Thousands of undocumented aliens pour over the border every day, unchecked and uncontrolled. They don't have to undergo a virtual colonoscopy at a TSA checkpoint, but you do.

No groping. No full-body scanners. No customs. No criminal background checks.

No terrorist watch lists.

No screening for infectious diseases.

No checks for weapons.

No checks for narcotics or illegal drugs.

Who are these people?

No one knows.

On March 27th, 2010, Arizona rancher Rob Krentz was brutally murdered on his own property by an illegal alien.

Today, Phoenix is the kidnapping capital of the world.

Of 75,000 violent and property crimes in 2009, only 18% were 'cleared' (solved).

Of 8,732 violent crimes in '09, only 2,921 arrests were made.

Of the 522 rapes that year, only 72 arrests were made.

Less than half of the murders that year were cleared.

This is not an indictment of the police. This is an indictment of a federal open borders policy that endangers citizens.

An illegal who commits a crime, like Rob Krentz' murderer, can easily disappear back into Mexico.

You can't board a plane or a cruise ship without copious documentation and a virtual strip search.

Someday soon, if it hasn't happened already, terrorists bent on destruction will enter the country through the swinging doors in the Southwest.

Millions of pounds of drugs pass through the porous border every year.

It's only a matter of time until chem-, bio- or radiological weapons make their way to our cities through similar means. In the mean time, you're the one who has to be strip-searched.
