Creepy, Omnipresent Obama Logo Even Hidden Deep Inside the President's Campaign Websites

You've seen the ubiquitous Obama logo -- sometimes dubbed "The Eye of Sauron" by certain irreverent wags -- appear on everything from airplanes to leather seat cushions. The mark is designed to brand Mr. Obama, to establish an iconography around the man that symbolizes, well, not hope and change any longer, but perhaps power and inevitability

And just when you thought you'd seen it all, it appears that the Obama fundraising website (http://www.barackobama.com/plans/budget, no hyperlink, intentionally) includes hidden logos, buried inside the markup -- or HTML -- used to construct the website. Performing a View >> Source on the Obama website reveals the following:

There is only one reason that a web designer would include the extra (and technically useless) markup: to further establish Obama's bizarre cult of personality.

The omnipresent logo is downright creepy and it smacks of something, at best, un-American and, at worst, totalitarian.

Remember in November.

QOTD: "No American has any idea whether recess appointments, executive privilege, executive orders, or filibusters are to be considered good, bad, or indifferent, since Senator/President Obama has damned and embraced them all. I vaguely remember that at one time Guantanamo, renditions, tribunals, and preventive detention were either of no value or unconstitutional, and trying Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in a civilian court and prosecuting CIA agents for supposedly too harsh interrogations were good. But that was all more than three years in the past, and hundreds of “Make no mistake about it”s and “Let me be perfectly clear”s ago.

I recall that there were once admonitions that President Obama could not by fiat enact amnesty or special programs for African-Americans based on race, and that he could not come out unequivocally for gay marriage. But who knows, since someone did enact amnesty, set up a special bureau for African-American education, and use support for gay marriage as a wedge issue in the 2012 campaign." --Victor Davis Hanson

Ruh Roh: Little More Than a Year Remains Until the the Polar Ice Caps Melt Completely

In 2008, while speaking at a museum in Germany, Nobel Prize-winner Al Gore made yet another sales pitch for Global Warming™. You know, that's the problem where humans are spewing too much toxic Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere. And that's the same problem that can only be solved by purchasing roughly $250 billion in "carbon offsets", preferrably from companies Al Gore is involved with.

Gore stated that because of man's outrageous use of Carbon Dioxide -- you may remember the molecule from a little-known process called "photosynthesis" -- the entire Polar Ice Cap will have melted by 2013. Seriously, he said that.

Gore's statement, in part, was: "The entire polar icecap [will be] gone... ...in five years, the period in which it is now expected to disappear."

You may remember that Gore's movie, An Inconvenient Truth, depicted rising ocean levels due to ice melt. And Gore predicted our shores will flood and coastal cities would sink beneath the water, thereby causing millions of homeless to relocate to Red States. In fact, the movie posits that melting ice could release enough water to cause a 20-foot rise in sea level "in the near future."

Pity that Gore's scientific knowledge is just a couple of notches below that of Britney Spears. Because even Brit-Brit knows that the loss of sea ice by itself can't contribute to a rise in sea levels, just as an ice cube that melts in a glass of water doesn't raise the level.

And, by the way, weren't we warned all this was going to happen by, say, 2010? I guess maybe it took a rain-check and now it's 2013. Put in simple terms for the liberals progressives reading along (moving their lips, I'm sure), global warming appears to be nothing less than a UN-backed bunko scam that aims to regulate and control the U.S. economy.

But just in case, I've created a Polar Ice-Cap Countdown Clock:

If the North Pole really does melt, I'm hoping Santa and his elves take over one of Gore's three mansions. Maybe the one in Nashville that consumes 20 times the average American household's electricity. At least the little toy-makers will be producing something useful.

Yes, Al, you hack. I remember these predictions. I'm like an elephant. I don't forget your B.S.

The EBT President

Joanne writes:

I've attached two receipts someone gave me within the last month.

The short hand "MRBL SHT CKE" is for a decorated marble sheet cake that costs $46.99.

In both cases, each were paid with food stamps or EBT cards as they are known today.

That's right, two different people, supposedly down on their luck, paid for birthday cakes with your money. Did they get box of Betty Crocker cake mix, a container of frosting, and some eggs for less than $5 and make their own cake?

Nope! Instead, they billed a premium -- some would say non-essential -- party item to the taxpayer. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

With scanners and UPC's, items like this could easily be excluded from purchase under the EBT program. Yet, in essence, our government is subsiding the lifestyles of those on welfare.

It's like what Texas Senatorial candidate Ted Cruz said earlier today:

Right now, we’re engaged in a national debate over big government solutions versus individual responsibility and I think this issue powerfully illustrates the different approaches between President Obama and Governor Romney.

In my view, there are three critical failings behind President Obama’s new policy on welfare. Number one, it’s fiscally irresponsible. At a time when our nation has sixteen trillion dollars in national debt, the idea that this president would eliminate one of the key requirements that reduced the welfare caseload and reduced federal government spending makes no sense.

Number two, it is yet another action of executive arrogance by this president—President Obama, if he disagreed with requiring welfare recipients to work or to seek work. He could have gone to Congress. He could have proposed new legislation. He could have tried to make the case to the American people. But he did not do that. He didn’t try to make the argument to anybody that work requirements were unnecessary or were counterproductive in welfare. Instead, he simply decreed it by executive order and this has been a pattern of this administration where they believe their own ideology trumps the views of the American people.

And the third critical failing of this new policy is that it hurts the recipients of welfare. The most compelling reason behind the bipartisan welfare reform that we saw is that helping those receiving government assistance to get jobs, to stand on their own feet fundamentally transforms their lives. We are not doing anybody a favor by giving them welfare in perpetuity and making them dependent on government.

Ted, it's called "The Cloward-Piven Strategy". It's time we referred to it by its proper name.

Geraghty: If Reid, Pelosi or Biden were struck by genuine neurological dementia, how would we be able to tell?

At the risk of ripping off borrowing too much of Jim Geraghty's latest at National Review, I can only respond by asking:

If, Jim? If? If???

Whomever Mitt Romney picks as his running mate, I hope that person understands the need to come out of the gate as a fighter... right now, millions of Republicans and independents feel like the world has gone crazy, and no one seems intent upon setting it right.

• Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is basically making things up, claiming that “a number of people” have told him about felony-level tax evasion by Mitt Romney. (Technically, zero is a number.)

• House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi declares, “it is a fact” in response to Reid’s charges and his unnamed sources, and labeling the opposition party, “the E. Coli club.”

• A new ad from President Obama’s SuperPAC declares, “Mitt Romney killed my wife.” (The man’s wife died seven years after Romney left Bain Capital.)

• The Obama “Truth Team” distributes a charge that Romney’s ad hitting Obama for changing the work requirements for welfare “has racial overtones.”

...If, God forbid, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, or Joe Biden were to be struck by genuine neurological dementia, how would we be able to tell?

...Reid, Pelosi, the president, his campaign, and his allies continue to throw out weapons-grade nonsense into the media environment with absolutely no consequence whatsoever.

...There was a time, not long ago, when if the Senate Majority Leader was going to accuse his opponents of a crime, he had to at least point to some evidence, lest he be derided as a McCarthyite, a demagogue, a liar and a toxic influence to public discourse. There was a time when presidential campaigns did not casually accuse their opponent of murder. There was a time when not every criticism of an opponent’s policy triggered a knee-jerk accusation of “racism!”

No one wonders why our political class is so disappointing. It’s because no sane person would want to step into the BS maelstrom that is modern politics... perhaps Romney thinks he can embody this by taking the high road. Perhaps he is correct... But somebody has to call out this nonsense for what it is – and I think many, many Republicans are waiting, with growing impatience, for someone to do that.

We need a conservative fighter, not a squish (see: Pawlenty, Portman) or a centrist with questionable values (see: Christie).

Which is why either Marco Rubio or Allen West must be named Mitt Romney's running mate.

QOTD: "The difference could hardly be starker. What Obama says “has never worked” brought real per capita GDP back to its previous peak in four quarters and outperformed the Obama economy in post-recession per capita income growth by over ten percentage points.

Let’s split the difference, and assume that if Obama and his administration had done what they should have done instead of what they have done, real per capita GDP would have grown by five more points in the past three years than it actually has. If that were the case, the economy would currently be producing almost $2,400 more in goods and services (5 percent times the $47,589 trough seen in the first graph) for every man, woman, and child in America, or about $9,500 for a family of four. A majority of that would be making its way into the pockets of American workers and their families.

Instead, we have falling wages, rising poverty, dangerous levels of dependency on the government, and a previously unthinkable chance of turning into the 21st century’s Argentina. Only a change in who is in charge, accompanied by a wholesale housecleaning and permanent pruning of the federal leviathan, can alter this unsustainable situation." --Tom Blumer

Blue State Ransacking: "The fiscal mayhem has only begun."

The perfect Democrat Utopia of California -- governed by loopy environmentalists, public sector unions and La Raza -- is melting down as we speak. One editorial board in Southern California goes so far as to call the state's economic policies "Fiscal Ransacking":

Californians fill ... special funds, which are separate from the state’s general fund, through fees dedicated to specific programs. The fee on bottled drinks, for example, goes toward the cost of recycling bottles and cans. These special funds account for a sizable share of state spending: $39.4 billion this fiscal year, compared to the $91.3 billion general fund budget.

A hidden stash of special fund money does signal a disturbing fiscal carelessness. But a report issued last week by the Department of Finance also suggests recklessness in the handling of this money. The document shows that the state’s general fund owes $4.3 billion to hundreds of special funds across state government. Four years ago, the general fund owed only $749 million to the special funds, but the borrowing snowballed as the economy melted.

So the billions in special fund borrowing the state eventually has to repay, for example, includes $40 million to the Oil Spill Response Trust Fund, $139 million to the Vehicle Inspection and Repair Fund and $350 million to the State Court Facilities Construction Fund. The state also has to repay hundreds of millions of dollars legislators have grabbed in recent years from a variety of transportation special funds...

...Since 2011, the state has borrowed $616 million from a disability insurance fund — dollars from a payroll tax on California workers — to make interest payments to the federal government. The state required a federal loan to pay unemployment benefits, because the state’s unemployment insurance fund has a $10 billion deficit. The Legislature helped create that mess in 2001 by boosting unemployment benefits without providing any way to fund the higher costs.

Borrowing to cover ongoing expenses is a pathway to insolvency, and a sign of political — if not actual — bankruptcy. Ransacking specially funded programs and hoping the economy improves is not a workable plan.

It gets worse. Much worse.

California, Illinois, New Jersey and New York are even securitizing their future tax revenue—that is, not merely borrowing with bonds that must be serviced but selling their projected tax collections to investors. So to "balance" their budgets today, they're making it far harder to correct them in the future and locking in higher tax rates. Even Greece doesn't do that.

The message of the Ravitch-Volcker report is that some large portion of the states are replicating the dysfunctions of Washington—adding to entitlements that crowd out priorities like schools and bridges, and then concealing the real danger when they're not ignoring it. State and local governments now spend $2.5 trillion, and rising. Without 49 more Scott Walkers, the fiscal mayhem has only begun.

What do California, Illinois, New Jersey and New York have in common? They've suffered for decades under craven Democrat governance.

Vote accordingly in November. It may be your last chance.

Elegant: Serena Williams celebrates her dominating Olympic performance with... "The Crip Walk"

And all this time, I thought tennis was supposed to be the classiest of sports.

Serena Williams dropped it like it was hot on Saturday, celebrating her first singles gold medal by performing an impromptu crip walk, a short dance move popularized by gang members in her hometown of Compton.

The move mostly passed by without incident because crip walk controversies date from the same era in which a bare bottom on "NYPD Blue" was considered risque. The dance was just a dance, a nice homage to Serena's hometown. But then someone overreacted and ginned up a phony controversy on this side of the Atlantic and now the very fabric of our culture is threatened because Serena chose to do a rhythmic shout-out.

Hey, it's great that Serena won a gold medal for the U.S.

I'm just not sure about the wisdom of turning each tennis match into an NFL touchdown celebration.

The Real Poll Numbers: Don't Believe Vintage Media's Lies

Dick Morris does the heavy lifting that the Democrat-infested vintage media can't be trusted with.

The media is trying to create a sense of momentum and of inevitability about the Obama candidacy. One benighted Newsweek reporter even speculated about a possible Democratic landslide.

On Friday, I saw the real numbers. These state-by-state polls, taken by an organization I trust (after forty years of polling) show the real story. The tally is based on more than 600 likely voter interviews in each swing state within the past eight days.

The trend line is distinctly pro-Romney. Of the thirteen states studied, he improved or Obama slipped in nine states while the reverse happened in only four. To read the media, one would think that Romney had a terrible month. In fact, the exact reverse is true.

Romney is currently leading in every state McCain carried plus: Indiana, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Nevada, North Carolina, and Colorado. If he carries these states, he'll have 228 electoral votes of the 270 he needs to win.

To win the election, Romney would then have to carry Florida where he trails by two points, and either Virginia (behind by two) or Ohio where he's down by only one.

If he carries all three of these states and also wins all the others where Obama is now at 50% or less - Iowa, New Mexico, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey -- he will get 351 electoral votes, a landslide about equal to Obama's 363 vote tally in 2008.

The strong probability is that Romney does, in fact, carry Florida, Ohio, and Virginia and a share of the other states where Obama is below 50% of the vote.

So don't believe the garbage being put out by the media. The attempt to portray Romney as not catching on and as dropping in the polls is ludicrous. It is, at best, the product of incompetent polling and, at worst, the result of deliberate media bias. But Romney is winning and expanding his lead each week. That's the real story.

The ludicrous Taegan Goddard hardest hit.

Billboard Campaign o' the Day: Stop Digging

I like the idea.

Bankrupting America, a project of Public Notice, today announced the posting of 48 billboards in 10 different states across the country highlighting the harmful impact of America’s skyrocketing national debt and urging policymakers in Washington to take meaningful action to cut spending. This is part of Bankrupting America’s “Stop Digging” campaign sending the message to Congress and the president to focus on reducing the debt in the run-up to the November elections.

...The billboards are located in major media markets in Ohio, Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Nevada, Iowa, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. Three different designs, titled “Not-So-Sweet 16,” “$16 Trillion in the Hole,” and “The Debt Falls on Their Shoulders” – each conveying the severity of our fiscal crisis – will run from Aug. 6 through Sept. 30.

If you care to donate to the campaign, click here.

Oh. And there's always my favorite bumper-sticker, which isn't affiliated with the billboard campaign:

The state deficit is at $16 billion. Stockton went bankrupt; Fresno is rumored to be next. Unemployment stays over 10% and in the Central Valley is more like 15%. Seven out of the last eleven new Californians went on Medicaid, which is about broke. A third of the nation’s welfare recipients are in California. In many areas, 40% of Central Valley high school students do not graduate — and do not work, if the latest crisis in finding $10 an hour agricultural workers is any indication. And so on...

...Illegal immigration did its share. No society can successfully absorb some 6-7 million illegal aliens, in less than two decades, the vast majority without English, legality, or education from the poorer provinces of Mexico, the arrivals subsidized by state entitlements while sending billions in remittances back to Mexico — all in a politicized climate where dissent is demonized as racism. This state of affairs is especially true when the host has given up on assimilation, integration, the melting pot, and basic requirements of lawful citizenship." --Victor Davis Hanson

EXCLUSIVE PHOTO Must Credit @directorblue: Alleged Harry Reid Pederasty Victim Comes Forward!

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - With rumors of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's pederasty flying fast and furious, at least one reported victim has come forward.

At their request, we are protecting the victim's identity. However, the victim did visit our offices in Las Vegas to offer details of Reid's alleged crimes.

"Reid promised to take me to his own 'amusement park' and that we would get to ride on a really awesome new ride called 'The Sphincter'.

"Of course, we didn't really go to an amusement park and I later found out there isn't any ride called 'The Sphincter'.

Only one question remains: when will Senator Reid address these disgusting allegations?

That's a bold strategy, Cotton: Obama campaign appears to have spotted Mitt Romney the state of Indiana

David "Red Diaper Baby" Axelrod hardest hit:

Four years ago, President Obama became the first Democrat since 1964 to win Indiana. He looks unlikely to repeat that feat.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds challenger Mitt Romney picking up 51% of the vote while the president earns just 35%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and 11% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The Indiana survey of 400 Likely Voters was conducted July 31-August 1, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.

Aside from Rasmussen, I don't trust any of these polls that show Obama leading Romney.

My suspicion is that we will see the return of "The Bradley Effect" come November, as the most racially divisive president and attorney general in history are pink-slipped.

This may not be a precise transcript of Gibbs' comments because my dogs were barking during the show. But I'm pretty sure Robert Gibbs just insisted that Barack Obama reveal how he was admitted to top-notch, Ivy League schools despite his self-admitted drug abuse in high school. And Gibbs went on to ask that Obama's campaign reveal the president's grades.

Thank you, Robert Gibbs: the American people deserve to know. End the hiding, Mr. President.

QOTD: "The idea that the office on the corner will always be able to dispense Government Cheese does not reflect the normal historical experience. Rather it reflects that peculiar period of stability and prosperity which followed the end of the Second World War: the Pax Americana, which the Left hates. Our civilizational attitudes have been formed on the basis of the exception, not the rule.

But though they may hate the Pax Americana, the Greens probably can’t live without it. Can’t live without the Ipods, the connectivity, the store-bought food, the cafe-bought lattes — all the ugly things made by private industry. And by paring down the redundancies in the system as wasteful and unsightly; by reducing the energy reserves of the system in favor of such fairy schemes as windmills and carbon trading the Greens have made the system far less robust than it could have been. Because they are never going to need the Design Margin. Ever. Until they do." --Richard Fernandez

Indeed they do.

Photo: Female Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen looks perfectly natural to me

Oops. My bad. This is a photo of Vera De Milo.

On the other hand, this is Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen:

More than a few eyebrows were raised when Ye Shiwen, a 16-year-old Chinese swimmer, knocked five seconds off her personal best in the 400-meter individual medley. She even swam the last lap faster than [male] U.S. medal winner Ryan Lochte.

Commentators watching the race called it "unbelievable." But John Leonard, head of the American Swimming Coaches Association, went a big step further, saying her race "was reminiscent of some old East German swimmer."

... "If there are suspicions, then please lay them out using facts and data," Xu Qi, head of the Chinese swimming team. told the state news agency Xinhua. "Don't use your own suspicions to knock down others. This shows lack of respect for athletes and for Chinese swimming."

The final world from Olympic officials cleared the Chinese swimmer's name.

"She's clean. That's the end of the story," said Colin Moynihan, chairman of the British Olympic Association reporting on the results of official drug tests.

She looks perfectly natural to me, though she was reportedly ejected from a Tesco store for carrying around a six pack and two guns.

I'll be here all week. Remember to try the roast beef special... and to tip your waitresses.
