Nothing says "Arab Spring" like a crucifixion or two, eh, Hillary?

The ludicrous RINO hack Bill Kristol -- who joined Democrats and vintage media in celebrating 'democracy' in the Middle East -- hardest hit.

The Arab Spring takeover of Egypt by the Muslim Brotherhood has run amok, with reports from several different media agencies that the radical Muslims have begun crucifying opponents of newly installed President Mohammed Morsi.

Middle East media confirm that during a recent rampage, Muslim Brotherhood operatives, “crucified those opposing Egyptian President Muhammad Morsi naked on trees in front of the presidential palace while abusing others.”

Raymond Ibrahim, a fellow with the Middle East Forum and the Investigative Project on Terrorism, said the crucifixions are the product of who the Middle Eastern media call “partisans.” ...Ibrahim also says the victims can be anyone, including Egyptians and Christians.

...Ibrahim said extra brutality is reserved for Christians, but the crucifixions are because of Islamic doctrine, and are required by the Quran. The time and other details about the crucifixions were not readily available.

Center for Security Policy Senior Fellow Clare Lopez cited chapter and verse from the Quran to explain that crucifixions are not simply normal for Islam; they’re demanded.

“Crucifixion is a hadd punishment, stipulated in the Quran, Sura 5:33, and therefore an obligatory part of Shariah,” Lopez said. “It’s been a traditional punishment within Islam since the beginning, even though it’s not exclusively Islamic. The Romans used it too.

...Lopez includes a warning for Egypt’s Christians and compares the coming treatment of the Christians to the Jews in Germany... “The Copts must get out of Egypt as soon as possible – for the many millions who will not be able to get out, I expect things will continue to deteriorate – just as they did for Germany’s and Europe’s Jews from the 1930s onward,” Lopez said.

Former Muslim Brotherhood member Walid Shoebat has additional details from Egypt.

Suffice it to say that this -- along with a nuclear Iran -- is the price of President Obama's infamous "leading from behind" doctrine.

QOTD: "All those massive fundraising numbers you've read about? None of that can be spent by the Romney campaign until after the Convention, after he has been formally nominated. So he's had to run on the fumes of his primary warchest, and rely on the SuperPACs to pick up the slack.
From September onward, though? It's going to be the world's biggest hurricane of pro-Romney advertising, created and directed explicitly by his campaign to set the tone. All that money is going to explode into a blitz of TV, radio, internet advertising, and (most importantly) ON-THE-GROUND ORGANIZING.

I can't emphasize this last enough. That was the major advantage Obama had in 2008. He got his people to the polls. Folks, I have seen, up close with my very eyes, the swing-state turnout operation that Mitt Romney is assembling (openly) in Virginia and (quietly, on the down-low) in Pennsylvania. "Please Joe, Keep On Running"

Is there anything funnier than a Joe Biden speech? I mean, besides Michael Moore doing a Tae Bo video?

I would pay cash money to see Joe give a speech after three quick Jagermaisters.

Say, do you remember when we didn't need Keystone XL because we were awash in crude oil?

Keystone XL? What's that?

News out this afternoon is that Obama is looking into opening the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as a means to relieve pressure at the gas pump.  Someone at the White House woke up and realized that the welcome springtime fall in gasoline prices has reversed course and retraced its steps, as shown [below].  I can tell you that out here on the Left Coast, the price of premium gasoline has reached $4.99 a gallon at my nearest station, but then California deserves it.  (The recent refinery fire at Richmond, which will reduce capacity for a few weeks, clearly doesn’t help.)

But this isn’t the only chart that should be giving night sweats to Team Obama right now.  We and others have pointed repeatedly to the infamous “Stimulus” chart, to which we add today’s news...

...that the unemployment rate rose in 44 of the 50 states last month.

Why is the United States the only country on Earth that restricts access to its own vast reserves of energy?

I'll give you a hint: it starts with the letter D and ends with the letters e-m-o-c-r-a-t-s. Which is why these kooks need to be voted out in November. At every level of government, including -- but not limited to -- dog-catcher.

Headline hat tip: Power Line commenter Mike Tanis.

City Watch Los Angeles: California is on the way to becoming an enormous version of Detroit

I love California -- and the Palo Alto area in particular -- but the state is destined for a fall that will be hard, sudden, and very painful.

California has a $16 billion deficit that no one seems to notice. Brown’s budget “assumes” that California voters will pass massive tax increases on themselves. If they do not, the 2013 deficit becomes a mind-numbing $20 billion. The budget, mandated to balance by the Calfornia Constitution, has been billions in the red for 10 straight years. How could Californians re-elect the same politicians year after year that produce budgets with multi-billion dollar deficits?

To protect the endangered Delta Smelt, a fish known better as bait, water has been diverted from the Central Valley to the Pacific Ocean. Orchards in the Central Valley have been allowed to wither and die, resulting in unemployment in the Central Valley as high as 40 percent. Imagine Californians living in what was the breadbasket of American now living on food stamps. California voters rejected Republican Carly Fiorina for US Senator in 2010. She ran Hewlett Packard. Instead, they re-elected Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, who vowed to protect the Delta Smelt at the expense of the Central Valley.

California has 519 state agencies, like the state Blueberry Commission, that pay each of their commissioners more than $100,000 per year. State politicians, when asked to make cuts, fire teachers and fire fighters to inflict maximum pain on its citizens, while leaving these patronage commissions intact.

State politicians have elevator operators in the state capital to push the buttons for them. Their solution for the overcrowding of the state’s prisons is to release inmates or transfer them to local facilities in already bankrupt cities. Yet, they are re-elected by California voters in numbers consistently higher than the old Soviet Politburo.

California’s public education system, once the envy of the world, now ranks 49th in the nation. Its business climate, according to 650 CEOs measured by Chief Executive Magazine, ranked dead last.

Apple will take 3,600 new jobs to Austin, Tex. at its $280,000,000 new facility. Texas ranked first in the same survey.

California unemployment is consistently higher than 10 percent of its workforce, but it’s under-employed, according to a Gallup poll, is 20 percent. There are few jobs for college students who graduate with as much as $100,000 in student loans. Despite the overwhelming evidence that bad public policy is chasing away jobs, the same state politicians are sent back to Sacramento every two years.

In the last two months, three California cities have declared bankruptcy. Compton is next. More will follow. Some cities will simply cease to exist due to $500 million in unfunded pension obligations they simply cannot meet.

The reason Democrat politicians and their supporters are completely insane is this: we can see the results of their policies in failed states like California.

Collective bargaining for public sector employees... unchecked environmental radicalism... crony capitalism... incredibly dense layers of regulation... demonization of business and industry... all the primary planks of the Democrat Party at the federal level.

The alarm claxons are going off not only in Cali, but also in Washington.

November is coming.

Ponzi Government QOTD: "Transfer one more conspiracy theory into the conspiracy fact bin"

The indefatigable Tyler Durden notes a curious admission that I can guaran-damn-tee you won't be reading about in the weekend funny papers:

While one may wonder about the implications of the just announced "accelerated wind-down" of the GSEs, predicated in no small part by the surge in animosity between Tim Geithner and the FHFA's Ed DeMarco, there is one aspect of the announcement that is completely and utterly unambigious: as part of its justification to demand faster liquidation of Fannie and Freddie's "investment portfolio" Tim Geithner gave the following argument:

This will help achieve several important objectives, including... Ending the circular practice of the Treasury advancing funds to the GSEs simply to pay dividends back to Treasury

In other words not some fringe blog, not some "partisan" media outlet, not some morally conflicted whistleblowing former employee seeking immunity, but the US Trasury itself just admitted it had been engaged in circular check kiting scheme, which essentially has all the components of a Ponzi scheme in it, ever since the nationalization (about which there is no now doubt and which means the GSE's $6 trillion in debt is now fully on the Treasury's balance sheet) of Fannie and Freddie in 2008.

Transfer one more conspiracy theory into the conspiracy fact bin.

The ludicrous hacks Jim Johnson, Jamie Gorelick and Franklin Raines -- all Democrats, all Clinton sycophants, and all of whom raped Fannie Mae like a Doberman let loose in a Toy Poodle pet shop -- should be serving time in federal lockup. Between them and a couple of other execs, they were somehow able to pull $200 million in compensation out of FNM just before the entire system imploded.

The history books, if they are written with a modicum of the truth, will remember these Democrat henchmen as the linchpins of the housing meltdown.

Political Banner o' the Day

This sign is a two-fer. Not only does this sign pertain to one of Joe Biden's predictably idiotic statements, but it also alludes to an op-ed in yesterday's Wall Street Journal by Senator Rob Portman (R-OH):

The Regulatory Cliff Is Nearly as Steep as the Fiscal One

The president has postponed damaging rules until after the November election.

After three years of bureaucratic excess, the Obama administration has been quietly postponing several multibillion-dollar regulations until after the November election. Those delayed rules, together with more than 130 unfinished mandates under the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial law, could significantly increase the regulatory drag on our economy in 2013.

The Labor Department, for example, is working on a regulation that would increase the cost of retirement planning for middle-class workers, to "protect" them from investment help... A study last year by the Oliver Wyman Group found that the Fiduciary Rule could result in higher retirement account minimums and cause 7.2 million individual retirement account (IRA) holders to lose access to investment advice...

...Then there is the mega-rule on the shelf at the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) that could block business expansion in many areas of the country. Proposed in 2010, the Ozone Rule would impose a limit on ozone (which creates haze from emissions from cars, power plants and factories) so strict that up to 85% of U.S. counties monitored by the EPA would be in violation.

Portman notes a 2011 Gallup survey in which small business owners listed overregulation as the "most important problem" facing them.

There's only one way to flush the left-wing regulatory state out of the cesspool that is Washington. Vote the straight Republican ticket. It's the only way to be sure.

QOTD: "...Forbes tells us GM is probably heading for bankruptcy again. Its stock price would have to more than double, to $53.00 per share, for taxpayers to recover their “investment.” Instead, stock values have declined by 39 percent in absolute terms, and 49 percent relative to the Dow average, since GM went public in 2010. Louis Woodhill of Forbes thinks political considerations would prompt Obama to “ride the stock down to zero” instead of cashing out at a massive loss to the public.

GM’s market share is also falling, as competitors beat its pants off in key vehicle classes. Disappointing new models will likely yield excess inventory that must be sold off at a loss in years to come. GM CEO Dan Akerson, who has mused on the record that it would be awfully nice if Obama made gas more expensive with higher taxes so GM’s electric cars would sell better, is “rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic” in Woodhill’s view, while more innovative and knowledgeable managers at competing companies run rings around him." --John Hayward

The Big Lie: Jay Carney attacks Ryan Budget for "not balancing the budget fast enough"

Words. Escape. Me.

Steven Dennis of the magazine Roll Call -- which is not what you would call a hotbed of conservative thought -- was incredulous after White House spokes-hack Jay Carney offered that Paul Ryan's budget didn't attack deficit reduction quickly enough.

How much hubris is required to make this kind of assertion? As James Pethokoukis reminds us:

The Obama budget leaves us on a path to fiscal collapse. Once again, here is a stunning long-term budget chart — produced by the White House (PDF) — from Obama’s 2013 budget:

And here is a comparison of the two paths, the Ryan path and the Obama path:

This is yet another example of the Obama administration's craven use of "The Big Lie".

His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.

As for the above paragraph: it is left as an exercise for the reader to determine its origin and subject.

QOTD: Krauthammer nukes the case for Obama's reelection

Oh, my:

There are two ways to run against Barack Obama: stewardship or ideology. You can run against his record, or you can run against his ideas.

The stewardship case is pretty straightforward: the worst recovery in U.S. history, 42 consecutive months of 8-plus percent unemployment, declining economic growth - all achieved at a price of another $5 trillion of accumulated debt.

The ideological case is also simple. Just play in toto (and therefore in context) Obama's Roanoke riff telling small business owners: "You didn't build that." Real credit for your success belongs not to you - you think you did well because of your smarts and sweat? he asked mockingly - but to government that built the infrastructure without which you would have nothing.

Play it. Then ask: Is that the governing philosophy you want for this nation?

For you drones reading along (moving your lips, I'm sure), that's a rhetorical question.

Gutsy Call: President avoids White House Press Corps for two months, finds time for sit-downs with People Magazine and Entertainment Tonight

Because -- aside from the unemployment crisis, the debt crisis, the Iranian nuclear crisis, the Euro crisis, the health care crisis, the inflation crisis, the housing crisis and the energy crisis -- there are no tough questions for President Obama to address.

ABC News’s Jake Tapper noticed an interesting trend with President Obama. He hasn’t been around to take any questions from the press lately. In fact, he has evaded the national press corps for more than two months. However, as Tapper noted on his blog today, Obama did have time to talk to ”reporters from People Magazine and Entertainment Tonight.” In addition, “during his three-day Iowa bus tour this week, for example, he conducted three interviews with local radio stations, including a sports talk radio show, and a roundtable discussion with columnists from three Iowa papers, in addition to sitting down with People and Entertainment Tonight. On July 12, he did an interview with Charlie Rose for CBS This Morning.”

Obama’s “last news conference was at the G20 in June, when he answered six questions from three reporters on the European debt crisis, the conflict in Syria, and the notion of politics stopping at the water’s edge. The White House press corps has not formally been given the opportunity to ask questions of the president on U.S. soil since his appearance in the Briefing Room on June 8 (when he said “the private sector is doing fine.)”

That would be a good enough reason for the folks in Team Obama to advise their boss to wimp out on the press, but it’s even more embarrassing when Mitt Romney has been able to appear on CBS twice this week, while Obama seeks to mediscare the senior citizens of Iowa. Tapper noted that, “asked if the president will be holding a full-blown White House press conference any time soon, Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters Wednesday, ‘I don’t have any scheduling announcements to make about that.’”

Of course not. Given the president's daunting schedule of golf, fundraising, pickup basketball, fundraising, softball interviews, and fundraising, there's simply no time left for the White House Press Corps. Or leadership, for that matter.

X-51A WaveRider: New York to London in an hour?

It's not a Star Trek transporter, but it's probably the the closest we'll come to seeing one in this, the 20th century*.

A futuristic new hypersonic Air Force jet that promises transatlantic flights from New York to London in about an hour was tested on Tuesday over the Pacific. The X-51A WaveRider jet can go five times faster than the speed of sound without a pilot, and, in theory, could shorten the amount of time travelers have to spend airborne...

...The WaveRider — which is small, wingless, and resembles a shark — uses a special "scramjet" engine — shorthand for "supersonic combustion ramjet," says Daniel Lametti at Slate — to reach speeds of up to 4,500 mph. A standard Boeing 787, for example, tops out at 647 mph. The jet works by gobbling fast-moving air into an engine, where it mixes with fuel and is then ignited to produce thrust. Ordinary planes, on the other hand, require the help of turbines to achieve the same effect. As a result, the scramjet is able to reach "dazzling speeds" with no moving parts...

[The downsides?] For starters the jet can't start from a standstill, and therefore needs to be dropped from another plane to become airborne. "Since forward motion is what pushes air into the engine, the plane must be brought up to speed before ignition," says Slate's Lametti. That also means the WaveRider is incredibly difficult to start up: One military report likens producing thrust on the scramjet to "lighting a match in a hurricane and keeping it burning."

Okay, I'll ask the obvious question: why can't it be equipped with a traditional jet engine to get to sufficient speed on its own?

Joe Biden makes Dan Quayle look like Steven Hawking

Can you imagine what vintage media would say if Joe Biden was a Republican? Never mind. He'd have been run out of politics after his first few months in City Council, or wherever the hell he came from.

Keith Koffler offers us the quintessential summary of Biden's idiocy wrapped into a nice little package with a bow on top.

Biden this week suggested that Gov. Mitt Romney would put African Americans back chains and, in a separate appearance, indicated that we are all still living in the 20th century. The statements are just the latest in a series of mistakes – assuming the comment about African Americans was unscripted – in the past few months that have raised concerns about Biden.

Most famously, he blurted out on Meet the Press that he favored gay marriage, forcing President Obama to hastily emerge with his own statement of support.

He called Obama “President Clinton,” called Romney “President Romney,” suggested the Irish drink too much, crossed himself in front of a meeting of over 1,000 conservative rabbis, and paid a visit to Florida’s “Evergators,” as he put it.

Biden is to moronic statements what Michael Jordan is to basketball.

QOTD: "Picture it: It’s December, and folks like you and I are celebrating the recent presidential campaign victory of Mitt Romney. It wasn’t a landslide; something on par with the Electoral College map of Bush vs. Kerry, and Romney winning the popular vote by two or three percentage points.

In that scenario, do you envision President Obama accepting defeat gracefully? Do you picture him congratulating President Romney on his victory, and pledging to do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition? Do you think the president will be ready to move on to post-White House life, focusing upon memoir-writing, building his presidential library, some charitable and foundation work, and plenty of golf?

Or do you think President Obama, and David Axelrod, and Valerie Jarrett and all of the true believers will find some reason to believe the result is illegitimate? Some combination of SuperPAC spending and voter ID laws that they believe nullifies the results? I don’t mean a constitutional crisis where Obama refuses to recognize the results, I mean just a narrative of “Romney cheated” that will reassure liberals that their views really are popular, and a return to the natural order of their eternal string of victories is one election-law change away. (In liberals’ view of the world, they never suffer a legitimate defeat.)" --Jim Geraghty

Geraghty: Obama Campaign Launches Its Most Incendiary, Indefensible, False Attack . . . Since Their Last One

It is time for Jim Geraghty to juxtapose:

Do we want to have the same old attack politics we've become accustomed to, the same slash-and-burn politics? . . . We're not going to run around doing negative ads. We're going to keep it positive, we're going to talk about the issues. Candidate Barack Obama, April 28, 2008

Look at what they [Republicans] value, and look at their budget. And look what they're proposing. [Romney] said in the first 100 days, he's going to let the big banks write their own rules -- unchain Wall Street. They're gonna put y'all back in chains. Vice President Joe Biden, August 14, 2012

So . . . the man who once pledged to end the era of the "same old attack politics" is now okay with his running mate suggesting that their opponents, the party of Abraham Lincoln, want to bring back slavery.

...Romney responded Tuesday night, saying: "This is what an angry and desperate Presidency looks like. President Obama knows better, promised better and America deserves better. Over the last four years, this President has pushed Republicans and Democrats as far apart as they can go. And now he and his allies are pushing us all even further apart by dividing us into groups. He demonizes some. He panders to others. His campaign strategy is to smash America apart and then cobble together 51 percent of the pieces. If an American president wins that way, we all lose."

...By September, the Obama campaign will be Photoshopping Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan into Nuremberg rally photos.

As if the Sorons at MoveOn.org haven't already prepared those for next month.

Speaking Truth to Power: Iowa Deli Owner Caters Obama Event Wearing "Government Didn't Build My Business" T-Shirt

As Mr. Burns might say... exxxxxxxxxxxcellent:

Obama’s “you didn’t build that” remark continues to haunt him politically.

Photo credit: Nikki Kahn of the Washington Post

For proof, look no further than here…:

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Ross Murty likes business, but he doesn’t like President Obama.

And so the co-owner of the Village Corner Deli here agreed to cater Obama’s visit Wednesday — but not before donning a t-shirt blaring the message: “Government didn’t build my business. I did."

It was a reference to a remark Obama made several weeks ago that his Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, has seized upon to portray Obama as anti-business...

Typical Washington Post spin at the end there. Mitt Romney has not portrayed Obama as anti-business.

OBAMA has portrayed Obama as anti-business. One could easily make the argument that Obama’s entire political philosophy and career is anti-business. He views success in business and the system of capitalism with total contempt.

I challenge any member of the so-called professional media or political class to name one thing Obama has done to help small business owners and entrepreneurs since taking office.

Name one.

Don't hold your breath, Glob. Unless, that is, you're being driven around Martha's Vineyard by a Kennedy.

The "Dude, Where's My Trillion Dollars?" Chart

The reason the Obama campaign's slogan is "Forward" is obvious: they don't want you looking back at their actual record.

Everything President Obama has done has failed, which is just as he intended it.

It's called The Cloward-Piven Strategy. Check it out and see for yourself.

Oh, my: Paul Ryan draws thousands to Miami University event

Shhh... no one tell vintage media that Paul Ryan may be exceptionally popular with college-age kids. Operatives for Karl Ushanka reported just moments ago from the scene in Oxford, Ohio, home of Miami University.

The crowd was estimated in the thousands for this hastily arranged event.

Ryan is an alumnus of Miami and could help the ticket significantly in Ohio.

Today begins the mad rush by illegal aliens to take advantage of Obama's illegal amnesty order

"No society can exist unless the laws are respected to a certain degree. The safest way to make laws respected is to make them respectable. When law and morality contradict each other, the citizen has the cruel alternative of either losing his moral sense or losing his respect for the law. These two evils are of equal consequence, and it would be difficult for a person to choose between them." --Frédéric Bastiat, The Law, 1850

Over the past five decades, no laws in the United States have been more abused by the political class than immigration laws. And no administration has been more breathtakingly lawless than the Obama White House, which has directed the federal bureaucracies to ignore immigration laws altogether.

Through an Executive Order, President Obama recently implemented the so-called DREAM Act by fiat, when it could not pass muster in Congress, even with a Democrat supermajority.

The result: millions of illegals began entering the workforce today without fear of punishment and millions more are certain to enter the country in violation of federal law to take advantage of Obama's lawless actions.

Obama’s lawless bypass of Congress in granting blanket amnesty to millions of illegal aliens began this morning across America.

Tens of thousands of illegals lined up early, and flooded into DHS centers to apply for nearly automatic 2-year stays from deportation and work permits, with far looser provisions and requirements than were ever imagined in any version of the 3-times defeated ‘Dream Act’ in Congress.

Thanks to Obama’s decree on June 15th, blanket amnesty for illegal aliens under 30 begins today as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) begins accepting applications for “deferred action” and work authorization.

To soften the public relations blow, the White House estimated that about “only 800,000″ illegal aliens would be covered under this amnesty, when Obama issued his edict – a complete fiction that he knew the media would not challenge. However, the figure was disputed by the Pew Hispanic Center, which estimated about 1.4 million beneficiaries. Then last week, the pro-amnesty Migration Policy Institute estimated that 1.76 million illegal aliens will be eligible.

In reality, the numbers will be higher – FAR higher. Why? Because, as House Judiciary chairman Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) told DHS Secretary Napolitano in an August 13th letter, there are no mechanisms in place to detect, deter, or to punish fraud.

Well, that should do wonders for unemployment.

No country is guaranteed to survive from generation to generation. And with political hacks like these in office that actively promote lawbreaking -- against the will of the people, Congress and the law itself -- the very fabric of the civil society is beginning to tear.

I will say it again: if we don't vote this pathetic excuse for a political party -- the entire Democrat machine -- out of office in November, this country could well be lost forever.
