Nola.com: Hurricane Isaac heading west to Mississippi, Alabama border; may disappoint crazed theocrats on the Left

The outstanding track records of meteorologists notwithstanding, it would appear that Tampa and the GOP convention will be spared Hurricane Isaac's wrath.

The National Hurricane Center has shifted the landfall of Isaac west to Dauphin Island, Ala., with landfall at 1 a.m. Wednesday as a Category 2 hurricane. NHC forecasters say Isaac will have maximum sustained winds of 105 mph and have posted a hurricane watch stretching from the mouth of the Mississippi River to Indian Pass, Fla., including lower Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes. The New Orleans metropolitan area is not included in the warning area.

But forecasters warned that confidence in the storm's long-range track forecast "is quite low, and it is too early to determine exactly where and when Isaac will make landfall along the Gulf Coast."

"Further adjustments to the track may be necessary later today," wrote Senior Hurricane Specialist Michael Brennan in his 4 a.m. discussion message.

Much of southeast Louisiana remains within the "cone of uncertainty," which outlines the possible forecast track error.

The Slidell office of the National Weather Service is forecasting winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts of 50 mph, for the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain on Tuesday night and early Wednesday. Along the coast, the winds are expected to reach 35 to 40 mph, with gusts to 60, and likely increasing.

The crazed theocrat Dana Milbank hardest hit.

Say, remember when Barack Obama listed his birthplace as Kenya to make himself appear more exotic and marketable to publishers?

As Jim Treacher reminds us, Obama himself was the O.B. [Original Birther]:

At some point over the next few days, until the next Election 2012 outrage crops up, a lefty may start shrieking “BIRTHER!!!” at you because Romney made an attempt at humor. If that happens, all you have to do is show the shrieking lefty this [at right]

This was the author bio Obama provided to his literary agent in 1991, and it was uncovered months ago by our friends at Breitbart.com. Obama used this bio for over 15 years, and it was revised a number of times. But he only changed it to indicate his true place of birth, Hawaii, once he decided to run for president.

He has yet to explain why he lied in the first place, but he doesn’t have to. He lied because he’s Barack Obama, and that’s what Barack Obama does.

So just show that to your high-strung lib friend, and watch the cognitive dissonance reduce what’s left of his or her brain to an even less cohesive puddle of mush. Better’n anything on the TV, at least.

You can read the entire curious history of revisions to the Obama biography here:

And, if prompted, remind your liberal friends who the O.B. really is.

QOTD: "So, as you might have heard, Michael Mann of Climategate infamy is threatening to sue us.

...Usually, you don’t welcome a nuisance lawsuit, because it’s a nuisance. It consumes time. It costs money. But this is a different matter in light of one word: discovery. If Mann sues us, the materials we will need to mount a full defense will be extremely wide-ranging. So if he files a complaint, we will be doing more than fighting a nuisance lawsuit; we will be embarking on a journalistic project of great interest to us and our readers." --Rich Lowry, responding to threats of a lawsuit by climatard Michael Mann

BANNED: Ads for European Chevy Volt Pulled for Misleading Viewers

Apparently GM doesn't have enough on its hands with lawsuits for channel-stuffing, 500,000 recalls for, uhm, vehicles that catch fire, the fact that it still owes taxpayers more than $35 billion, its thousands of excess workers around the world, its need for a bigger credit line to pay off its obligations, management turnover or hemorrhaging stock price.

Because now it's resorted to producing ads so misleading that they've been banned.

For carbon-conscious drivers, the advert for an electric car with an impressive 360-mile range seemed too good to be true.

Unfortunately, it appears it was, as the real range of the electric batteries in the Vauxhall Ampera [Ed: the European version of the Chevy Volt] is a rather more modest 50 miles... And to go beyond that, it relies on help from a somewhat less green source – a petrol engine.

...Now the commercial has been banned for misleading motorists who want to do their bit for the environment.

...Vauxhall insisted its claims about the Ampera were genuine and that once in ‘range extender mode’, it can indeed keep going for 360 miles... However, the ‘range extender’ consists of a small petrol engine which switches on once the battery has been exhausted.

...However, in a ruling published today, the Advertising Standards Authority said the car firm should have been more upfront about the use of the petrol engine... The watchdog said: ‘We considered that throughout the ad the emphasis was on the fact that the car was being driven electrically, and that most viewers would not understand that the car was in some circumstances being powered by electricity generated with a petrol engine.

‘Because it did not clearly explain how the vehicle worked in extended range mode, we concluded that the ad was misleading.’

Somehow I don't think we'll be reading this particular story in The New York Times.

THIS: "Obama is losing"

Those inside the twin echo chambers of the Beltway and Manhattan have no freaking clue how pissed off the American people are. But they're going to find out in November, as John Nolte explains.

It's 8:21 on a Saturday morning and according to this photo snapped by Sharon Broadie, this is the size of the crowd that showed up in Powell, Ohio, (just outside of Columbus) to see Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan:

Here's a look at the line to get in...

...and another look at the crowd from another source...

And a real jaw-dropper.

Meanwhile, President FailureTeleprompter is relegated to rationalizing his lack of turnout into a "deliberate" desire for smaller, more intimate crowds. Yeah, that sounds like the Mr. Greek Column we've all come to know and grow tired of.

Meanwhile, the media refuses to report on the size of either side's crowds.

Meanwhile, across the country, the documentary film "2016" has just opened wide on over 1,000 screens and in the heart of Hollywood's biggest season hit #3 at the box office.

Meanwhile, though their Media Palace Guards assure us this is not the case, the Obama campaign's increasingly desperate and shrill campaign is acting more and more like a campaign so far behind and so in fear of losing, they feel they have nothing to lose. From "felon" to "chains" to "Mitt killed my wife" to one bald-faced lie after another, President Obama has forsaken the dignity of the office and -- should he win a second term -- all hope of bringing the country together after the kind of scorched-earth campaign only the terrified wage.

Meanwhile, the media is behaving in a manner no less shrill and desperate than their Presidential Master. When the unemployment rate increases, the media tells us that's a good thing. When the economy shrinks from 4.1 to 1.5%, the media still call it "the recovery." When an idiot in Missouri says something stupid about rape and abortion, the media launches into a week-long narrative accusing Republicans of being soft on rape.

Meanwhile, Obama supports infanticide. Romney opposes abortion except in cases of rape, incest and when the mother's life is at risk. Yesterday CNN released a poll showing 62% of the American people agree with Romney and only 32% with Obama... This morning the media was still painting Romney-Ryan as the out-of-touch extremists on this issue.

Meanwhile, yesterday, Mitt Romney made a birth certificate quip and within thirty-minutes those few words received more media attention (and phony outrage) than the record number of American casualties currently mounting in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, as the clock runs down and campaign days grow more and more precious, three days ago, the Obama campaign felt it was a good use of the Vice President to send him to the supposedly safe state of Minnesota...

There's more.

And even some in vintage media appear to be sick of the lies coming from an administration orchestrating a de facto suicide of the U.S. economy

Good news: EPA slaps landlords with $40,000 fines for failing to provide "EPA-Approved" pamphlets to tenants

But remember, they're doing it for the children:

“Thinking of renting or selling a home or apartment?” asks the Environmental Protection Agency. “Make sure you disclose its lead-based paint history. Mr. Wolfe Landau did not and it cost him a $20,000 fine.”

Landau is one of the many landlords and realtors fined by the EPA for failing to provide an “EPA-approved” pamphlet to tenants seeking to rent or buy a house built before 1978... for the EPA, the non-compliance business is booming.

Juan Hernandez of Bridgeport, Conn., faces seven “Level 1” violations for failing to provide seven tenants with a copy of the “Protect Your Family From Lead In Your Home” pamphlet... The EPA filed a complaint against Hernandez on March 27, detailing notifying him that the agency plans to collect $49,980 from him, which works out to $7,140 for each pamphlet he failed to distribute...

...Hernandez’s total fine for other disclosure violations, such as supplying the property’s lead history and a “Lead Warning Statement,” reached $127,150, payable to the "Treasurer of the United States of America."

The EPA says the penalties are justified because lead exposure – a concern when the paint is flaking -- can be hazardous to young children and can lead to damage to the brain and nervous system. Thus the agency requires landlords to provide information about the risks involved.

The pamphlet offers tips to “protect your family,” such as keep play areas clean, keep children from chewing window sills or other painted surfaces, and clean up paint chips immediately.

Available in six different languages, including Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic and Somali, the pamphlet is “printed with vegetable oil-based inks on recyclable paper,” it states.

For those familiar with the story of the involvement of Barack Obama and Valerie Jarrett with the Grove Parc housing debacle, this news should prove especially ironic.

After all, Jarrett collected millions even as the housing development she ran was declared "uninhabitable" by federal inspectors and eventually condemned. Lead paint and all.

Congratulations to Mayor Rahm Emanuel for Chicago's successful gun control policies: only 19 shot in 18 hours yesterday!

Well done, Mayor Tu-Tu: your continued support of draconian and unconstitutional gun control measures is working!

Nineteen people were shot across the South and West sides from Thursday evening through early Friday morning -- 13 of them wounded over a 30-minute period, authorities say.

The overnight shootings peaked between 9:15 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. That's when eight people, many of them teens, were shot at 79th Street and Essex Avenue about 9:30 p.m.

Then two men were wounded in the Ida B. Wells / Darrow Homes complex at about 9:25 p.m., police said. The men, 27 and 33, were shot in the 600 block of East 37th Street and taken to the University of Chicago Hospitals, police said. The younger man was shot in the head and the other in the right arm, Gaines said.

Around the same time, two other men were wounded in the arms in a drive-by shooting in the 2900 block of West 39th Place in the Brighton Park neighborhood.

About 15 minutes later, a 24-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to Jackson Park Hospital from the 7200 block of South Jeffery Boulevard, Gaines said. He was treated and released. The man told police he was talking on his phone when he heard a single shot and realized he was wounded.

Earlier Thursday evening, four men were wounded in a shooting in the Little Village neighborhood about 5:20 p.m. Thursday, police said.

They were walking in the 3200 block of South Kedzie Avenue when at least one person inside a vehicle with three others opened fire, police said, hitting the group. Three 19-year-olds and a 22-year-old were wounded.

Just after midnight, a 17-year-old was shot in the back and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said. He was walking in the 7100 block of South Vincennes Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood when someone inside a passing car opened fire, police said.

Another 17-year-old was shot after 1:30 a.m. Friday in the 3500 block of West Grenshaw Street in the Homan Square neighborhood. He's in good condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. Someone walked to him and started shooting, police said.

Curious how the cities that are most restrictive when it comes to law-abiding citizens possessing firearms to protect themselves and their loved ones are also the cities that are awash in violent crime.

Shhh... here's a hint for you drones: police can't be everywhere.

The unvarnished idiocy of the green agenda in a single picture

Together, the 48 contiguous states are comprised of 2,959,064 square miles (which excludes bodies of water).

There are 640 acres in a mile. There are about 4,840 square yards per acre.

To calculate the number of square yards in the United States, we multiply 640 * 4,840 * 2,959,064, which yields 9.17 trillion square yards in the United States.

There are also about 300 million citizens living in the United States. If you had everyone in the U.S. stand next to each other -- let's say they each have their own square yard to stand in -- how much of the contiguous land would be filled?

Answer: about 96 square miles or the size of Plymouth, Massachusetts.

This estimate ignores, of course, the immense land mass known as Alaska as well as Hawaii. Humans would be even less consequential if we took those areas into account.

Each time you fly over the United States, remember how inconsequential humans really are.

Humans represent the metaphorical gnat on an elephant's posterior. And human activities have about as much to do with carbon dioxide, photosynthesis and the rest of the earth's organic processes as Al Gore had to do with the invention of the Internet. Which is to say: none.

CBO: Economic outlook brightening thanks to President Obama's stellar leadership. Just kidding: deep recession and 9 percent unemployment on the way.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) warned yesterday that a recession is "imminent" given the fact that the do-nothing Senate and the President have refused to pass a budget for over 1,200 days; have failed to address imminent tax hikes on America's greatest job creation engine (small businesses); and continue to blitzkrieg the balance sheet of the federal government with unprecedented deficit spending.

We are facing the largest tax increase in history—Taxmageddon, scheduled to take effect January 1—and what experts are calling a “fiscal cliff” of sharp and unforgiving budget changes that will send the country spiraling downward. Congress and the President have the power to prevent this, and when the August congressional recess is over, that is exactly what they should do.

In its new report, the CBO said that if Congress does not act, it’s not economic growth we should be worried about, because the economy will actually shrink next year. It will shrink by 0.5 percent, and the unemployment rate will spike to 9.1 percent.

Heritage’s Patrick Louis Knudsen points out several other sobering projections from the CBO report:

  • For the fourth year in a row, the federal government in 2012 will run a budget deficit exceeding $1 trillion.
  • The deficit is already $49 billion higher than CBO’s January estimate.
  • Debt held by the public this year will reach $11.3 trillion by October, roughly three-fourths of the entire economy.
In the middle of this fiscal disaster, the government has no budget. That’s right—Congress has abdicated its responsibility for producing a budget for the country. The Senate failed to produce a budget for the third year in a row. Congressional leaders keep passing temporary stopgap bills to continue funding government operations, but this is unacceptable. They have to take this seriously. Perhaps the CBO’s dire warnings will give them the sense of urgency they are missing.

I wouldn't bet five cents on the Democrats passing a budget this year. Never happen, not just before an election when their bloated Stimulus spending and failed crony green jobs programs have failed miserably and left the country on the edge of a fiscal abyss.

The only real quibble I have with the CBO report is the assertion we would "return" to a recession when we've never really left the original Obama repression of 2009.

Exclusive, must credit Biff Spackle: Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey, Juanita Brodderick to hold RNC panel discussion on protecting women from predators

Just kidding. But wouldn't it be appropriate?

Not to get too hung up on The Senate Candidate Who Shall Not Be Named™, but the fact that a disbarred, impeached, admitted pervert -- who was accused of rape by one woman, sued for molestation by another, publicly accused of fondling another, and who, eh, gave a cigar to an intern in the Oval Office -- is the keynote speaker at the Democrat National Convention is highly relevant to this discussion?

I join Mark Levin in calling for President Obama, Claire McCaskill, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer and Dee Wasserman Snider to demand that Clinton withdraw from his speaking engagement.

Otherwise, it's apparent Democrats are waging a veritable war on women.

As an aside, does Clinton have to notify his new neighbors each time he moves?

That thunder you hear in the distance...

...is the righteous fury of the American people building.

The first data-point was a historically accurate University of Colorado statistical study that predicts a dominating win for the Romney-Ryan ticket:

A University of Colorado analysis of election factors that’s accurately predicted the winner of every presidential election since 1980 revealed Wednesday that the 2012 winner will be Republican Mitt Romney.

“Based on our forecasting model, it becomes clear that the president is in electoral trouble,” said Kenneth Bickers, a political science professor at CU-Boulder.

According to an analysis that looks at economic data from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, President Barack Obama will win 218 electoral votes, well short of the 270 benchmark he must reach in order to win a second term...

...According to Bickers, election prediction models “suggest that presidential elections are about big things and the stewardship of the national economy. It’s not about gaffes, political commercials or day-to-day campaign tactics.”

But wait: there's more.

Amazon Election Heat Map Predicts Anti-Obama Landslide

Collectivists are fond of indulging in their perception of themselves as intellectually superior to their individualist opponents. No doubt they think they are much better read. Yet when the libs at Amazon put together an “election heat map” indicating which states are reading red (conservative) versus blue (moonbatty) books, the result was a countermoonbat landslide:

Only six states are selling more liberal books bought than conservative titles: Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maryland, New York and DC. DC is the bluest of the blue states, with 78% of political purchases coming in blue, topped by Barack Obama’s own two titles...

You think maybe our rulers within the Beltway are a little out of touch with the rest of the country? It’s either that or they just saw 2016 and they are desperately trying to figure out who we have in the White House.

One obvious possibility for the skew: a large percentage of liberals have no interest in reading -- or simply don't know how. It's certainly true that they ignore history, facts, logic and reason across the board.

QOTD: "White House records show that Exelon executives were able to secure an unusually large number of meetings with top administration officials at key moments in the consideration of environmental regulations that have been drafted in a way that hurt Exelon’s competitors, but curb the high cost of compliance for Exelon and its industry allies.

In addition, Exelon, which provides power to more than 6.6 million customers in at least 16 states and the District of Columbia, was chosen as one of only six electric utilities nationwide for the maximum $200 million stimulus grant from the Energy Department. And when the Treasury Department granted loans for renewable energy projects, Exelon landed a commitment for up to $646 million allowing it, on extremely generous financial terms, to finance one of the world’s largest photovoltaic solar projects." --Eric Lipton, The New York Times

Oh. My.

I've tried to avoid mentioning The Senate Candidate Who Shall Not Be Named for obvious reasons, but couldn't help notice this delightful advertisement:

"Chiping-in"?

I think that says just about everything we need to know. Look, if I lived in Missouri, I would vote for a freshly caught halibut over Claire McCaskill, because I'm pretty sure the halibut wouldn't regularly vote -- as McCaskill does -- to destroy our country with unsustainable levels of debt.

Yes, I would vote for TSCWSNBN. But I certainly don't have to like it.

Speaking of politicians uttering bizarre, incendiary remarks in public...

I refer, of course, to this newly unearthed videotape of State Senator Barack Obama (D-Grove Parc) endorsing third trimester abortions:

Q: Are you pro-choice?

Obama: I am pro-choice.

Q: In all situations, including [the] late-term thing?

Obama: I am pro-choice. I believe that women make responsible choices and that they know... uh... better the... uh... tragedy of... uh... a... uh... difficult... uhm... pregnancy... and I don't think it's the government's role to meddle in that choice.

As Jim Hoft observes, "[T]his political position in itself, makes Barack Obama the most radical president in US history. But, don’t expect the media to report on this."

In fact, Barack Obama -- as a state senator -- endorsing fourth trimester abortions, which is to say he explicitly voted on multiple occasions to legally permit a doctor to terminate a baby that had survived an abortion.

So which is more controversial: some crackpot statement by a guy in Missouri or the Obama record of -- not once, but twice -- voting to legalize infanticide?

For you drones reading along -- slowly, to be sure -- that's a rhetorical question.

Democrat Rep. Gauthier stays in race: He says having sex with 17-year-old boy at interstate rest stop is a "private matter"

There's delusional and then there's delusional.

Minnesota’s Kerry Gauthier... a DFL representative, was apprehended at a highway rest stop having oral sex with a seventeen-year-old boy. Gauthier described the incident as a “private matter.”

Gauthier’s fellow Democrats are trying to show him the door; one of them referred to him publicly as a “child molester,” while Governor Mark Dayton said, “I believe he is unfit to serve beyond this term.” The Minneapolis Star Tribune, however, reports that Gauthier says he will run for re-election in November

Is there any possibility he could win in November? One wouldn’t think so, but his Duluth district is heavily Democratic. His campaign will reveal, perhaps, whether Democrats have any standards whatsoever.

John Hinderaker, author of the cited article, should know better.

The party that called a man who drove a woman into a pond and left her to drown "The Lion of the Senate"?

The party that has as its convention keynote speaker this year an impeached, disbarred ex-president who admitted to molesting an intern in the White House and who was accused of rape or molestation by at least three different women?

The party that sent a man to 16 terms in Congress despite the fact that a gay house of prostitution was being run out of his residence?

The party that let a Congressman stay in office even though he admitted to having a sexual relationship with a male, 17 year-old Congressional page?

Somehow I doubt it.

No, all of the media outrage must be reserved for a doofus who said something idiotic, not Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Barney Frank or Gerry Studds, to name but a few.
