ACLU: Bush administration quadrupled warrantless wiretaps. Just kidding. It was Obama and Holder.

Gee, and all this time I thought Democrats hated wiretaps and warrantless surveillance. The ACLU reports:

Justice Department documents released today by the ACLU reveal that federal law enforcement agencies are increasingly monitoring Americans’ electronic communications, and doing so without warrants, sufficient oversight, or meaningful accountability.

...The reports show a dramatic increase in the use of ... surveillance tools, which are used to gather information about telephone, email, and other Internet communications. The revelations underscore the importance of regulating and overseeing the government’s surveillance power.

...During that same time period, the number of people whose telephones were the subject of pen register and trap and trace surveillance more than tripled. In fact, more people were subjected to pen register and trap and trace surveillance in the past two years than in the entire previous decade...

...During the past two years, there has also been an increase in the number of pen register and trap and trace orders targeting email and network communications data. While this type of Internet surveillance tool remains relatively rare, its use is increasing exponentially... Earlier this year, the New York Times reported that cellphone carriers received 1.3 million demands for subscriber information in 2011 alone...

But, but, but... Bush! Cheney! Halliburton!

Let me guess: Fox News personalities, conservative talk show hosts, bloggers and others who oppose this administration's politics are among those who have been targeted.

I'm so nostalgic. I remember when dissent was patriotic.

This administration needs to go.

SCANDAL: Bumper Sticker o' the Day

Our prestigious Bumper Sticker o' the Day award goes to iOwnTheWorld for this gem:

This a full-fledged scandal.

And even collectible media -- including The Washington Post and The New York Times has been forced to cover it.

An Ambassador and three other Americans are dead. And everything the Obama administration told us about the disastrous terror attack in Benghazi was a lie.

And now, a public service message from Obamaphone

The following is a public service message from ObamaPhone.

Yes, everybody in Cleveland who's a minority got an Obama phone!

Keep Obama in President, you know!

He gave us a phone!

He gonna do more!

You shine up, if you on food stamps, you on social security, you got low income, you disability...

Romney? He sucks! Bad.

Chart: The [holding two fingers up] recovery

We've been reading about the "recovery" ever since Barack Obama took office. For most Americans, however, the recovery has yet to materialize. Cafe Hayek relays the following chart from the St. Louis Fed:

In [an] interview I did with John Taylor, he pointed out that the ratio of employment to population hadn’t rebounded at all in the current recovery. How common is that? Here is data from FRED that looks at the ratio of employment to population. You have to go back to the recession of the early 1960′s (and it wasn’t much of a recession) to see anything like the lack of rebound.

The gray periods are recessions. The ratio usually rebounds sharply in the recovery. But not for this one...

Question for you drones: what makes you think that after three-and-a-half years of this miserable failure on the employment front that things are going to get better?

Here's a hint: with 2013's fiscal cliff, the deficit cliff, and the Obamacare cliff, things are about to get decidedly worse if this disastrous administration is returned to office.

QOTD: "6) The avalanche of negativity spewing from the liberal media can be discouraging to conservatives, but the liberal media have steadily lost clout over the past 20 years, and the alternative conservative media have never been more robust. Not only are the liberal media less powerful but also conservative talk show hosts, bloggers, tweeters, columnists and Fox News react with lightning speed to counter every single lie they promulgate.

7) The polls can be discouraging, too, but we’ve seen this in previous elections. Some pollsters showing Obama significantly ahead have a dubious history of distortion and have used their polls to manipulate instead of report public opinion. Most polls showing Obama ahead are either oversampling Democrats (using 2008 as a model instead of more recent elections) or understating Romney’s lead among independents. The Weekly Standard reports that through 2004, every incumbent whose Gallup approval rating was less than 50 percent at this point — as is Obama’s — lost. In Ohio, thousands more Republicans have ordered absentee ballots than Democrats. Also, I’m skeptical that all poll respondents are being completely candid in their positive responses about Obama for fear of being accused of racism or of being out of step with the manufactured media narrative that Obama is a likable person.

8) Obama is having some difficulty with his base, which is why his campaign is increasingly desperate and shrill. Some blacks are so angry over his liberal social views they may stay home. Some Jews are awakening to Obama’s mistreatment of Israel. If Obama were so confident, he wouldn’t be so flagrantly neglecting his official duties to feverishly campaign." --David Limbaugh

BUT THEY'LL DO BETTER WITH THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM: Postal Service to File For Second Default in Two Months

But I'm sure they'll do a much better job with 16 percent of the entire economy, i.e., the country's health care system:

Postal Service Prepares for Second Default in Two Months

The U.S. Postal Service will default this week on a $5.6 billion congressionally mandated obligation to pre-fund retiree health benefits, marking the second time in two months the cash-strapped agency has done this.

The Postal Service last month failed to pay $5.5 billion for its fiscal 2011 prepayment obligation, which originally was due in September 2011 but was deferred by Congress until Aug. 1. That was the first time it ever defaulted on a payment to the Treasury Department. The $5.6 billion due this week, on Sept. 30, represents this fiscal year’s obligation.

Before this year, Congress helped USPS defer pre-funding payments required by a 2006 congressional mandate. Postal reform has challenged this Congress. Lawmakers warn that when they revisit the issue after the November election they likely won’t reach agreement on as major an overhaul as some deem necessary. USPS lost $5.2 billion in the third quarter of fiscal 2012, $2.1 billion more than during the same time period in 2011.

Let me get this straight. The federal government's recent track record, just off the top of my head, is as follows:

• Medicare is bankrupt and headed for collapse in just six or seven years.

• Social Security is bankrupt and headed for collapse in the next 18 years.

• Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac went bust in 2008, taking with it the entire housing sector.

• The Postal Service can't adjust to the digital age and is hemorrhaging cash like a giant version of Solyndra.

But Obamacare will be the first government program of its size -- in fact, the biggest government program in world history -- to succeed?

You have to have a serious mental disorder to believe that. Or be a hard-core Democrat. Not that I'm sure there's a difference at this point.

SHOCK POLL: Obama Up 99 points over Romney in Latest CNN-NYT-Zogby-NBC-Dreamworks Survey

The ludicrous Jan Crawford -- if that is her real name -- hardest hit:

CRAWFORD: Both candidates are focused on Ohio this week. It is getting tough here for Mitt Romney. Our latest poll now shows the president is up by 10 points. The poll shows the president also has a significant lead with women voters in all three of those swing states that we surveyed. But here in Ohio the president is up by 25 points with women voters. Now, today Romney will be focused on the economy. That's an issue that's been the cornerstone of his campaign, but there's trouble in our poll there for Romney, too! In our poll, for the first time, the president has taken a lead on that key issue in all three states.

RUSH: That makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? Obama's ahead by 25 points with women in Ohio, and is finally taking a lead over Romney on the economy. Yeah, 'cause the economy's gotten so much better in the last week. If it's this good for Obama, I have a bunch of questions, but one central question: Why is he there? Why is he campaigning in Ohio today? If it's that wrapped up and he's got a 10-point lead, why is he there? Why not go to some other state where it's not that big a lead?

Exactly. Obama is in Ohio because he's in trouble in Ohio.

Rasmussen August 31st: Latest national party affiliation, Republicans up four over Democrats. That's never reflected in any poll. If, by the way, you do that, if you take all these polls and you change the samples... Some guy did this at Unskewed Polls or some such thing the other day. It's been all over the Internet. If you do this, if you take every one of these polls and you exchange the sample for what Rasmussen found?

You find Romney up by anywhere from six to nine points, and in some cases ten points. That's if you use an accurate sample of Republicans and Democrats as reflected by Rasmussen's party affiliation reported on August 31st.

Vintage media wants the American people to surrender. And this we will not do.

This election is just as much about defeating old media as it is defeating the Statist Obama agenda. Voting Democrats out of office at every level of government therefore is a two-fer.

I can't wait to flip from ABC to CBS to NBC to MSNBC to CNN on election eve, just to watch the expressions on their faces. It's gonna be great. I've got the DVR cued up and the popcorn ready.

2010 IS GOING TO LOOK LIKE A WARM-UP: Media skewing polls by double digits to make up for Obama enthusiasm gap

Call it the Obama reality deficit. The highlights of a roundup from Nice Deb should warm the cockles of your heart:

• Dick Morris: "I can’t predict what will happen November 6th, [but] if the Election was held today Romney Would Win by 4-5 Points. ... People need to understand that the polling this year is the worst it's ever been... this is the first election that where if I tell you who's going to vote, I can tell you how they're going to vote... and I'll be right two out of three times. Therefore, the issue is who is going to vote. Polling is very good at saying how you're going to vote, it's very bad at say who's going to vote. The models these folks are using are crazy. They're using a Democrat edge of six or seven points... I'm assuming a three point Democrat edge and even that is likely overstated. ...The people are overwhelming concluding that this guy isn't up to being President, and the media is trying to convince us [otherwise]."

• John Giokaris of Townhall: "The liberal mainstream media and blogosphere are desperately trying to write Romney’s funeral using polls that oversample Democrats by as much a D+10, D+11 and D+13. In 2008, an historic election wave for Democrats, the electorate was D+7. In 2004, when George W. Bush won re-election, the electorate was evenly split. In other words, D+0. So was the 2010 midterm election: evenly split. The Democrat share of the electorate is not going to double this year. Given the well-noted enthusiasm edgefor Republicans this year, the electorate is going to be far closer to the 2004 and 2010 models than 2008. Any poll trying to replicate the 2008 is going to artificially inflate Obama’s support."

• Brian Cates of Draw and Strike: "...in 2008, Democrats DID outvote Republicans by +7. That was a historic wave election for the Democratic party; you’d have to go back decades to find another election where Democrats outvoted Republicans by anything like that kind of number. Usually the partisan split between Dems and Repubs is pretty damn close, and if it’s not tied within the margin of error, it’s between a +1 or a +3 advantage to whichever party gets the upper hand. So +7 was pretty damn eye-opening in 2008... Despite the fact that a lot has changed since 2008, many of these MSM pollsters are using a 2008 template for their polls... However, all the signs point to a big REPUBLICAN voter enthusiasm advantage in this election."

• John Nolte of Big Journalism: "If you’re going to believe the polls released from CBS/New York Times this morning — you know, the polls the media’s currently using to beat Romney senseless and to depress Republican enthusiasm, you have to believe that the turnout advantage for Democrats over Republicans will blow away every previous record and common sense."

• Jay Cost of The Weekly Standard confirms: "Yes, Most Polls (The Ones The Media Prefers) Are Giving Obama a Phantom 3-4 Point Edge"

Nice Deb herself observes: "They’re trying to wrap this up before the debates even start, because I think they’re worried about the debates. I think they’re trying to get this election finished and in the can by suppressing your vote and depressing you so that you just don’t think there’s any reason to vote, that it’s hopeless. They want you making other plans... Open your eyes – it’s beyond obvious, now what they are doing."

That, my friends, is the critical point: Democrats are scared to death of the public reality check represented by the debates, as I wrote in "IT'S OVER: The Left's Information Warfare Campaign Has Failed -- and Mitt Romney is Going to Win This Election":

Obama without TOTUS is like Joe Biden without the hair-plugs. Romney has been tempered through the fires of a dozen, hard-core, debate melees.

And Obama has had precisely zero debates and, for that matter, hasn't even entertained a serious interview in years. Without practice -- and with his increasingly questionable work ethic -- I have a prediction to make:

Obama is going to stumble in these debates. He will stumble badly. And he will reveal himself.

Furthermore, when you come right down to it, he's an easy mark. He has a record he must try to defend. And that record is downright ugly. He can blame Bush, Tsunamis, ATMs and the Euro for all of his failures, but if he tries, he'll sound even more like an unpresidential loser than usual.

The combination of being confronted with his failures -- one after the other, with no real way to spin or lie without blatantly appearing as a charlatan -- along with his documented case of Aggressive Narcissism results in my Lock o' the Week prognostication:

Obama will seriously stumble in these debates. It will be cringe-worthy.

Write it down. Take it to the bank. This is going to be fun.

BUMBLER-IN-CHIEF: ‘I Want to See Us Export More Jobs’

Of course he does. Each of our 57 states must export more jobs, according to the smartest man ever to serve as president, although we can't be sure just how much of a genius he is because his college transcripts are unavailable.

Obama misspeaks: "I want to see us export more jobs"

Speaking at Kent State University in Ohio on Wednesday, President Obama misspoke, stating, "I want to see us export more jobs." Quickly correcting his remark to be, "export more products," he joked, "I was channeling my opponent there for a second."

In fact, if you listen to the recording, he says, "Actually, I - I - I - I - I - I was channeling my opponent there for a second."

Maybe we should have a Navy corpse-man check him out.

Yet another reason that SCOAMF is the quintessential description of First Air Marshal Obama, the failiest man ever to serve as President.

Jimmy Carter just breathed a huge sigh of relief.

QOTD: "Obama’s flawless pro-choice voting record earned him a 100 percent approval rating from Planned Parenthood, which remains one of the most powerful organizations in Democratic politics at both the state and local level.

Other Obama votes that would appear to put him outside the mainstream of majority opinion on hot-button issues include his record on criminal enforcement, which received far less attention despite stories on his potentially problematic record, most notably in The Hill newspaper.

Chicago is currently caught in its worst wave of gang-related violence in decades. Despite having some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, at least 240 people were shot dead in the first half of 2012 alone, a number far outpacing the number of Americans killed in combat in Afghanistan over the same period. Fatal stabbings, meanwhile, are up 78 percent since 2011." --Will Rahn and Vince Coglianese, Daily Caller

HE JUST NEEDS MORE TIME: Household incomes fell again in August; have now dropped a shocking 8.2 percent under President Obama

Anyone who wants to give this man four more years seriously needs to have a full psychiatric evaluation (unless they're a campaign bundler, in which case they're simply taking advantage of the President's Solyndra-style payoffs).

In another sign that the economic recovery under President Obama is not producing gains for average Americans, median household incomes fell 1.1% in August to $50,678, according to a report released Tuesday by Sentier Research.

Since the economic recovery started in June 2009, household incomes are down 5.7%, the Sentier data show, and they are down more than 8% since Obama took office.

...Earlier this month, the Census Bureau released its annual report showing that the number of people in poverty was nearly 3 million higher in 2011 than in 2009, an increase of 6%.

That report also found that average incomes for middle- and lower-income households fell in 2011 after adjusting for inflation. They rose only for the wealthiest 20% of households.

I'm guessing those wealthiest 20% include Obama's campaign bundlers who profited from green scams like Solyndra, Abound Solar, and the dozens of other payoffs.

I've found the SCOAMF-o-Meter particularly helpful in educating intelligent Democrats. Drones, on the other hand, are a lost cause. Trying to use facts, logic, reason or arithmetic with them is roughly equivalent to trying to teach calculus to a goldfish.

THE FAIL IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE: Health Care Premiums Skyrocket. Unexpectedly.

On no fewer than 19 separate occasions, President Obama promised his new health care plan -- since dubbed "Obamacare" -- would lower premiums by $2,500 per family, per year.

The results are in. Try and contain your surprise:

John Merline over at Investor’s Business Daily reports that the new Kaiser Family Foundation employee benefits survey reveals that employer-based health insurance premiums have risen a whopping 9.5% in 2011 and another 4.5% so far in 2012, due in large part to the insurance “reforms” of Obamacare such as mandatory coverage of kids to age 26, mandatory loss ratios of 85%+, mandatory free preventive care, etc. So much for President Obama’s pledge to cut health insurance premiums by $2,500 in his first term.

Even worse news? Premium increases will skyrocket in 2014, when the (most expensive) remainder of Obamacare health insurance “reforms” kick in, including the mandate to buy health insurance, elimination of annual and lifetime coverage caps, mandatory community rating bands and prohibition of the use of pre-existing conditions for underwriting.

To get a sense for the problem with trying to cover preexisting conditions, picture the following scenario:

Lindsey Lohan (not the actress, some other made up person) crashes her $106,000 Porsche 911 into a school-bus while drinking from a flask of vodka and texting. Before the police can show up, she purchases full automobile coverage and a $15 million umbrella liability policy from Flo (not the Progressive spokesperson, some other made up insurance pitchman). Moments after getting her policies, she calls the insurer's Claims Department to begin collecting.

Whatever you call that kind of "underwriting", it has nothing at all to do with "insurance". In fact, it's specifically designed to bankrupt insurers and move the country to a Soviet-style, single-payer system.

First Air Marshal Obama Leads U.S. Military to its Worst Loss of Air Power Since Vietnam

Not that you'd read any of this in collectible media, mind you:

...the U.S. Marine Corps has suffered its worst air squadron catastrophe since Vietnam, and its prized VMA-211 squadron has taken its worst hit since its defense of Wake Island in World War II.

It happened on September 14, 2012, northwest of the city of Lashkar Gah in southern Afghanistan. A team of fewer than two dozen Taliban fighters attacked the USMC's massive Camp Bastion base there, killing VMA-211 squadron commander Lt. Col. Christopher Raible and destroying or permanently disabling eight of the ten top-of-the-line Harrier AV-8B attack aircraft stationed under him. Out of production for more than a decade, these aircraft can never be replaced.

By the time the smoke cleared, roughly 7% of the total harrier fleet operated by the USMC had been wiped out on a single day by a small force of ground combatants whose most potent weapon was the suicide vest, one of which was used to breach the camp's perimeter fence.

Under Obama, the U.S. has taken 1,491 casualties in Afghanistan, over 70% of the total 2,121 casualties sustained since the fighting there began. Helmland Province, where Camp Bastion is located, has been the grounds for the lion's share of them, twice as many as any other region of the country. Things have gotten so bad that, in the wake of the attack on Camp Bastion, the International Security Assistance Force, which trains Afghan citizens to defend their country against the Islamic fanatics of the Taliban, suspended operations.

Even The Atlantic noticed that the media has virtually blacked out the story.

Ah, those bumps in the road can be so... annoying.

Despite his campaign promises, U.S. casualties have soared rather than falling, and the hand held by the Taliban has strengthened, not weakened. Obama said he would achieve disengagement with honor, but instead he has escalated the violence and carnage without improving our strategic position, and it is clear now that if the Taliban fighters can achieve victories like the one in Camp Bastion against the mighty alliance led by the U.S., then the feeble Afghan army has no chance against it and will surely descend into chaos if the U.S. leaves the field. Then we can expect the terrorist camps to spring right back, targeting the new tower rising over Ground Zero in New York City and many others besides.

And the same can be said of Obama's policy in Iraq. No less a friend of Obama's than The New York Times was forced to admit in a recent article that Obama has fallen "frustratingly short" on his withdrawal objectives in Iraq. He has failed to create a stable successor government, failed to establish security patrol oversight, and failed to establish a training program for Iraqi security forces. The NYT itself admits that the MSM has largely ignored these failures and that Obama has attempted to sweep them under the carpet. The NYT admits that Iraq is now "less stable domestically and less reliable internationally" than Obama promised it would be. And of course, Obama didn't keep his promise to have all U.S. forces out of Iraq by the end of last year, so the U.S. is getting the worst of all possible worlds.

In related, disastrous news (that you also won't be reading in obsolete media), the capture of America's Benghazi consulate represents "a catastrophic intelligence loss". Or "SCOAMF" for short.

The War on Women: Mammogram Edition

One of the political parties does indeed appear to be waging a "War on Women". That would be the Democrat Party and its bastard step-child from hell, Obamacare.

At the June 29, 2012 anti-Obamacare rally hosted by American For Prosperity, blogger Ari Armstrong captured this short video of Dr. Jill Vecchio explaining how Obamacare will force her to practice substandard medicine.

Pay close attention to her words, starting at 1:00:

According to the government, I can only recommend a screening mammogram for women over 50 every other year until 74, then never again. That violates the American Cancer Society guidelines … The American Cancer Society says every year after the age of 40 until the woman no longer wants to have a mammogram.

Screening mammography has been proven to decrease the number of women who die by breast cancer by 30-40% — just screening mammography. These government rules that I will have to abide by will cause me to violate my Hippocratic Oath. And I won’t do it. I will violate their guidelines every day, many times a day. As a result of that … I will be fined, I won’t be paid …

I will not be practicing medicine when this law takes effect. Neither will thousands of other physicians.

Dr. Vecchio also alluded to possible jail sentences, which could be imposed for failing to follow guidelines on the use of mandatory electronic medical records...

Obamacare will force doctors to choose between their patients and their government paymasters. If Obamacare is not repealed, many doctors will “go Galt” and quit medicine, rather than violate their medical consciences and betray their patients’ trust.

Ask yourself: When the doctors who are willing to practice in their patients’ best interests quit medicine, what kind of doctors will remain?

That wasn't a misprint. You read that right. Obamacare explicitly forbids women over the age of 74 from getting mammograms. It violates the American Cancer Society's guidelines for preventive care.

But, whatever you do, don't call these unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats "Death Panels".
