Remember when "speaking truth to power" was celebrated on the left?

Those days are long gone.

PoliSci Students Forbidden From Using Fox News as a Source

Students in a political science class at West Liberty University were given an assignment recently to keep a “politics journal” in which they would record their reactions to various articles they had selected.

Not Rachel Maddow
The instructor at the West Virginia public institution included some possible news sources, such as The Economist, BBC, CNN and The Huffington Post...

But the instructor also specified that two sources could not be used. One was The Onion, which the assignment notes “is not news” and “is literally a parody.”

The other: Fox News, the only major media source of information that does not lean aggressively to the left. With the jarring hypocrisy that distinguishes liberals from those who suffer from less severe psychiatric maladies, instructor Stephanie Wolfe justified her ban by declaring that FNC makes her “cringe” because it is “biased.”

Anita Dunn Says Fox News’ “Alternative Universe” Is Crumbling

...former White House Communications Director Anita Dunn said that the departure of Dick Morris and Sarah Palin from Fox News signals that the network’s “alternative universe” is crumbling.

Dunn created a controversy in 2009 when she told Time magazine that Fox News is “opinion journalism masquerading as news,” and followed that up on CNN by saying that the network “often operates as the research arm of the Republican Party.”

I think what you’re seeing now with Fox is that the alternative Fox universe that they created for four years is crumbling, and Roger Ailes who is nothing if not an excellent television person and very smart executive, is realizing that the creationism of the past has to end, and so you see the Fox evolution.

Dunn and the liberal media have jumped on the fact that Fox hit a 12–year ratings low in January as evidence that Fox is now in decline, despite the fact that it still finished as the number one cable news network with more than twice the total audience of second place MSNBC... In addition, Fox had the top 11 cable news programs in 2012, not exactly a sign of a network on the verge of crumbling, as Dunn claimed.

After Fox News hires Herman Cain, vile libs cry ‘Uncle Tom,’ ‘house n***er’

The outspoken conservative and former presidential hopeful has joined Fox News as a contributor, and right on cue, hateful lefties are attacking him for thinking for himself and not toeing their preferred racial line...

Executive Summary: a Marxist professor, a Maoist, and a bunch of racists despise Fox News for gently opposing Statism. For resisting the inevitable expansion of centralized government. For praising individual liberty.

The Obama Agenda is a failure. It was a failure in February of 2009, it is a failure now, and it will have failed in 2016.

That Fox News occasionally reminds us of Obama's abysmal performance pisses off progressives to no end. Which is why you should watch it whenever you can. Yes, it's imperfect -- but it's the best we've got.

Just try to imagine life without it. It would be like North Korean television, 24 by 7.

LOVE IT: Six Firearms Manufacturers Tell New York to Get Stuffed

Six companies have thus far informed New York officials that they will not sell goods to any police or government organizations in the state.

LaRue Tactical
Olympic Arms
Extreme Firepower
Templar Custom
York Arms
Cheaper than Dirt

[We join in the calls] for all American gun owners to pressure Sig Sauer, Smith and Wesson and Glock to shut off sales to government agencies in New York State.

If you know executives in any of these companies, email them directly. If not, we’ve got some email addresses below for you... Keep it short and sweet. Long missives will not be read, so save your time for constructive endeavors.

Here’s a suggested message, tweaking on GRNC’s suggested message: We don’t live in a police state: If it can’t be sold to citizens, it won't be sold to State and local government.

Emails: publicsafetysales@sigsauer.com, dgrier@smith-wesson.com, LE.info@glock.us

The despicable, petty, half-pint tyrants of New York -- deeply flawed men like Andrew Cuomo and Michael Bloomberg -- are protected 24 hours a day by men with guns. But they want to deny you from enjoying those very same rights; the rights granted to us by God and codified in the nation's highest law!

Gun control isn't about guns. It's about control. And people like Bloomberg, who wake up each day with new ways to steal more and more of your liberty -- from salt, 16-ounce sodas, prescription painkillers and styrofoam cups, to name but a few -- are truly detestable.

It's high time everyone concerned with saving America steps up to the plate. For that reason alone, I salute these six companies. Make sure you give them your support and business.

Haggard, Botoxed, Would-Be Empress: $170K Salaries "Beneath the Dignity" of Congress

With Congressional approval hovering slightly below that of lice and John Wayne Gacy, this takes real chutzpah.

Pelosi: Pay Cut for Congress Beneath Their Dignity

If Democrats in Congress fail to prevent across-the-board spending cuts (AKA ‘the sequester’) their own $174,000 salary gets trimmed too, and Rep. Nancy Pelosi is offended by the notion.

“I don’t think we should do it; I think we should respect the work we do,” Pelosi told reporters in the Capitol. “I think it’s necessary for us to have the dignity of the job that we have rewarded.”

I’m confident we can work out a compromise so that Mrs. Pelosi and colleagues aren’t summarily stripped of their dignity. In fact, as representatives of the people, members of Congress ought to share in the blessings of the economic conditions they have fostered.

So, here are two suggestions:

1) Peg Congressional pay changes to changes in the median household income — down about 8.24% since 2007 — putting their pay at about $159,663. Of course, if they really wanted to identify with the people, we could set their pay AT the median household level, a cut of roughly $110,000. Members who serve inner-city districts could have their’s set to local rates.

2) If the first option also seems below their dignity, they could be rewarded according to their abilities, by putting them on straight commission, so their income increases with every dime they cut from the federal debt. It’s a ground-floor opportunity, and the sky’s the limit (actually, at $16.5 trillion in debt, the limit stretches above the sky).

I sometimes wonder whether Nancy Pelosi has facelift poisoning -- a term I just coined -- such that her brain cells are being starved of oxygen.

And aside from Pelosi, for Democrats in general, the question is often raised: is it ignorance or malice?

The correct answer is: both.

Feds: Jesse Jackson, Jr. Used $750,000 in Campaign Funds to Buy a Michael Jackson Fedora and Gold Jewelry, Wasted the Rest

Taste is, of course, highly subjective:

Former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. was charged today with violating federal law by misusing $750,000 in campaign funds...

Federal authorities allege that Jesse Jackson used campaign funds to purchase a $43,350 men’s gold-plated Rolex watch, $5,150 worth of fur capes and parkas, and $9,588 in children’s furniture. The purchases were made between 2007 and 2009, according to the criminal information, which authorities noted is not evidence of guilt.

Other expenditures listed by prosecutors include $10,105 on Bruce Lee memorabilia, $11,130 on Martin Luther King memorabilila [sic] and $22,700 on Michael Jackson items, including $4,600 for a "Michael Jackson fedora."

The government also alleged that Jesse Jackson made false statements to the House of Representatives because he did not report approximately $28,500 in loans and gifts he received.

As they say, the nut doesn't fall far from the tree.

QOTD: "Hundreds of reasons have been adduced for the fall of Rome and the end of the Old Regime in 18th-century France. Reasons run from inflation and excessive spending to resource depletion and enemy invasion, when historians attempt to understand the sudden collapse of the Mycenaeans, the Aztecs, and, apparently, the modern Greeks. In literature from Catullus to Edward Gibbon, wealth and leisure — and who gets the most of both — more often than poverty and exhaustion, cause civilization to implode.

One recurring theme seems consistent in Athenian literature on the eve of the city’s takeover by Macedon: social squabbling over slicing up a shrinking pie. Athenian speeches from that era make frequent reference to lawsuits over property and inheritance, evading taxes, and fudging eligibility for the dole. After the end of the Roman Republic, reactionary Latin literature — from the likes of Juvenal, Petronius, Suetonius, and Tacitus — pointed to “bread and circuses,” as well as excessive wealth, corruption, and top-heavy government.

For Gibbon and later French scholars, “Byzantine” became a pejorative description of a top-heavy Greek bureaucracy that could not tax enough vanishing producers to sustain a growing number of bureaucrats. In antiquity, inflating the currency by turning out cheap bronze coins was often the favored way to pay off public debts, while the law became fluid to address popular demands rather than to protect time-honored justice." --Victor Davis Hanson

Great news: Democrats in Missouri and Minnesota introduce identical legislation banning the Second Amendment

And none dare call them extremists?

This is an organized national effort folks... [Ed: I'd call it a conspiracy, but what do I know, Mr. Soros?]

This is not a coincidence. It is a concerted effort.

Missouri Democrats are pushing a bill to confiscate guns giving gun owners 90 days to turn in their weapons.

Minnesota Democrats are pushing the same bill.

Missouri Democrats introduced an anti-gun bill which would turn law-abiding firearm owners into criminals this week. Gun owners will have 90 days to turn in their guns if the legislation is passed.

Dana Loesch has more details... Here is the language:

4. Any person who, prior to the effective date of this law, was legally in possession of an assault weapon or large capacity magazine shall have ninety days from such effective date to do any of the following without being subject to prosecution:

(1) Remove the assault weapon or large capacity magazine from the state of Missouri;

(2) Render the assault weapon permanently inoperable; or

(3) Surrender the assault weapon or large capacity magazine to the appropriate law enforcement agency for destruction, subject to specific agency regulations.

5. Unlawful manufacture, import, possession, purchase, sale, or transfer of an assault weapon or a large capacity magazine is a class C felony.

Then there’s this... Minnesota Democrats are pushing similar legislation using nearly identical language as the Missouri bill.

Here's a word of advice for the hard Left, Alinsky-inspired, Soros-controlled, Weather Underground Democrats: If you want to modify the Constitution, we have a process for that - it's called passing a Constitutional Amendment.

Barring that, any attempts to infringe upon the Second Amendment are unlawful. And my suspicion is that most Americans would respond with the following missive:

The Democrat Party may want to memorize it for future reference.

RUH ROH: Senate Democrats Blast Obamacare Implementation

And to think that a 2,200-page bill, which no one was allowed to read prior to voting on, would turn out be unworkable. The infamous mouthpiece of the conservative Tea-Bagging Right -- also known as Kaiser Health News -- explains:

Valentine’s Day Surprise: Senate Democrats Blast Obamacare Implementation

Senate Democrats on Thursday showed little love to the Obama administration for how it is implementing the federal health law.

Testifying before the powerful Senate Finance Committee, the administration’s top regulator on new health exchanges encountered criticism from several Democrats who helped push through the 2010 federal health overhaul — among them Chairman Max Baucus of Montana and Sens. Ron Wyden of Oregon, Bill Nelson of Florida and Maria Cantwell of Washington.

Baucus questioned how well the online health insurance marketplaces would interact with what he called “archaic” computer systems at Social Security and the Internal Revenue Service.

Cantwell blasted the administration for failing to meet a 2014 deadline to start a so-called Basic Health Program—an optional program that would allow states to offer a cheaper alternative to the individual health policies sold in new online marketplaces to lower-income people. “You are overwhelmed by the details and technology, I get that point. … It seems as if the agency is taking pages out of the law,” she said. Washington state, which has a program similar to this, was hoping to have the federal Basic Health Program running next year when its program expires.

Cantwell questioned whether the administration was delaying the Basic Health Program until 2015 as a way to increase the number of people who buy policies in the online markets...

...He told the committee that every state will have a new online insurance marketplace operating by Oct. 1 with coverage effective in January 2014—regardless of whether the markets are run by the state, the federal government or a partnership of the two.

The administration has given conditional approval to 17 states and the District of Columbia to run the marketplaces. But it is unclear whether all those states will be ready. Idaho, for example, has yet to hire an information technology vendor to set up its website...

And to think that a centralized, one-size-fits-all, authoritarian, Politburo-style command-and-control system of delivering health care, orchestrated by a panel of 15 masterminds in Washington, would turn out to be a disaster!

But, relax, folks: they're only getting started.

Yet another superb reason NOT to visit antique media websites

I mean, besides the censorship and naked malice for the Constitution.

LA Times website redirected users to exploit kit for over six weeks

A sub-domain of Los Angeles Times' website has been redirecting visitors to compromised websites hosting the latest version of the Blackhole exploit kit for over six weeks (since Dec. 23, 2012), says Brian Krebs, and estimates that some 325,000 visitors were exposed to the attack.

Alerted to the fact that something was wrong with OffersandDeals.latimes.com by some of its readers, he investigated the matter with the help of Avast's director of threat intelligence Jindrich Kubec, who checked it and confirmed that the tips were, indeed, true and correct.

When first contacted, LA Times spokeswoman Hillary Manning stated that the problem was tied to the recent hack of the NetSeer advertising network site, which resulted in Google blocking popular third-party sites - among them the New York Times, the Washington Post, ZDNet and the LA Times - that were serving ads provided by the ad network. She claimed that the problem had been solved and that there were no additional ones.

Unfortunately for the publication, that was not true, as Avast and other security companies continued to detect exploits coming from the sub-domain. In a statement released a few hours later, the LA Times conceded that the security companies' readings were accurate, and that they resolved the situation.

This type of attack is sometimes called a "Watering Hole", where a site known to be popular with the target(s) is exploited so that it can launch attacks when the target visits.

Consider this Reason #7,308 to avoid all legacy media distribution channels.

QOTD: "Listening to Obama’s address on Tuesday night, I was reminded of something I read last week from Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Letters and Papers from Prison. Bonhoeffer was, of course, a German theologian who lived during the Hitler era. Unlike today’s progressive poseurs, he spoke truth to power when it cost something. While sitting in a cell, awaiting death for that crime, he wrote: “For evil to appear disguised as light, charity, historical necessity, or social justice is quite bewildering to anyone brought up on our traditional ethical concepts.”

No, I’m not comparing Obama to Hitler. But I am saying that the never-ending stream of prevarication that emanates from the White House and its media toadies is indeed bewildering to anyone who tries to live honestly. And most of the propaganda is specifically designed to camouflage crimes against democracy like Obamacare. " --David Catron

Valentine's Day Guide to Dating Dictators

True romantics all:

Whether you are a young starry-eyed Utopian or have been around the eastern bloc for a while, everyone can benefit from these tips and guidelines for safe dictator-dating procedures...

Do not jeopardize your livelihood for a night out having fun. By observing the following tips, you can still have a great time and live.

• Define the degree of your compliance with his authority. Let him know if you find his dictatorial methods unacceptable; if this angers him, mark this as a red flag.

• Do not rely on the tyrant for transportation - you may wind up in a boxcar or in an armored vehicle, being interrogated by a dictator you don't really know that well...

IRANIAN MILITARY PHOTOSHOPS: They're Not Even Trying Any More

Having been caught Photoshopping missiles, naval vessels, tanks, and everything in between, you'd think Iran's government would have become a bit more careful when disseminating bogus photos.

And you would have thought wrong.

Oh, Iran. Your Qaher 313 stealth fighter jet sure looks intimidating but it will never get off the ground. So why do you insist on tricking everybody into thinking that the beast can fly? Iran's latest transgression is especially hilarious: they've photoshopped the Qaher 313 onto a stock image of Mount Damavand to make it look like it's flying.

Seriously, the stock image that Iran used of magestic Mount Damavand can be found at PickyWallpapers.com. If you brighten up the picture a little bit, it's the SAME EXACT THING. Iran floated the picture with the Qaher 313 superimposed on the mountain to "prove" that the fighter jet could fly.

QOTD: "So, to recap:

• His presidency, marked by massive gifts to special interests, should work for everyone.
• The most partisan administration ever wants “reasonable compromise”.
• Obamacare, over-reaching and over-promising, needs revision before it is entirely in effect.
• The middle class who cannot find jobs now, due to an anemic economy, need to be better trained. Then they will suddenly find jobs.
• Oil, which has been for over 100 years the driver of the American economy, needs to be replaced. Ostensibly with something that is as cost-effective and energy rich as petroleum.
• Road and rails will bring jobs. We need better roads and rails, and suddenly the jobs will begin flooding back into the United States from countries with potholes and uneven rails.
• Finally, minimum wage needs raising. Why? Because the workers who make it already are not being challenged enough by the Obama economy, and need another ball to juggle." --J. Brenneman

Memories

Todd Thurman asks, "Remember this?"

No, not really.

In all this excitement I kind of lost track myself.

Obama packs house to push gun ban agenda; millions of late-term aborted fetuses unavailable for comment

The hypocrisy, it burns:

President Barack Obama and Democrat cronies are packing tonight’s State of the Union address in the House Chambers with crime victims in an attempt to push the administration’s gun ban agenda, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

Press reports say Democrat House members have provided tickets to the annual event to victims of gun-related violent crime.

“President Obama has been claiming to want a balanced approach to solving the nation’s gun violence problem,” noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “If that was true, he would have invited people who have defended themselves with firearms to be in the audience tonight as well. Instead, anti-gun Democrats are packing the House.

Inexplicably, no late-term aborted fetuses were invited to the State of the Union address by the president.
