PHOTOS: Ricin Suspect (and Elvis Impersonator) Paul Kevin Curtis is a... Democrat Activist

His act is called "A Tribute to the Stars." I'm sure the "stars" are delighted.

The Clarion-Ledger has more background info.

Update: Bob Owens has additional detail on Curtis, who appears to have some, eh, controversial views about the local hospital system.

Update II: Lady Liberty and a pal seem to have discovered KC's identity well before anyone else. Oh, and he's a Democrat.

Well done, ladies! You can check out their scoop here.

MARATHON PHOTOS: Are These the Two "Persons of Interest"?

Dan Riehl: Possible Marathon Bombing suspect:

Orr said authorities have video of a man in a black jacket on a cell phone, wearing a gray hoodie and a white baseball cap backwards placing a black bag at the second bomb site outside of the Forum restaurant on Boylston Street and then leaving the area before that explosion.

And Jim Hoft adds this to the mix:

Two more from 4chan: this pair may match the persons of interest described here:

A federal law enforcement source told Fox News that investigators are looking for two men that are persons of interest in Monday's Boston Marathon terror attack and have distributed photos for “law enforcement eyes only.”

According to the reporter, one of the men has a backpack that appears to match the bag believed to have been used in the attack. The other man also appears to have a bag of some kind.

JOLTING: Nation's Largest Theater Chain Cuts Work-Week Thanks to Obamacare as Key Senate Architect Calls It a "Train-Wreck"

Jim Hoft relays the following dire news:

The nation’s largest movie theater chain has cut the hours of thousands of employees, saying in a company memo that ObamaCare requirements are to blame.

Regal Entertainment Group, which operates more than 500 theaters in 38 states, last month rolled back shifts for non-salaried workers to 30 hours per week, putting them under the threshold at which employers are required to provide health insurance. The Nashville-based company said in a letter to managers that the move was a direct result of ObamaCare...

“To comply with the Affordable Care Act, Regal had to increase our health care budget to cover those newly deemed eligible based on the law’s definition of a full-time employee... To manage this budget, all other employees will be scheduled in accord with business needs and in a manner that will not negatively impact our health care budget.”

Adding insult to injury, the loathsome hack Max Baucus (D-MT) -- one of the architects of Obamacare -- is now warning that history's largest entitlement program is, and I quote, "a train-wreck."

Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) said Wednesday he fears a "train wreck" as the Obama administration implements its signature healthcare law.

Baucus, the chairman of the chamber's powerful Finance Committee and a key architect of the healthcare reform law, said he fears people do not understand how the law will work... "I just see a huge train wreck coming down," he told Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at a Wednesday hearing. "You and I have discussed this many times, and I don't see any results yet...

"I'm very concerned that not enough is being done so far — very concerned... Small businesses have no idea what to do, what to expect," Baucus said.

You mean tens of thousands of pages of legislation and regulations -- that no one read before voting on -- is turning out to be a disaster?

Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?

Nostradumbass: Paul Krugman on the Euro

But first, a little context-setting: Walter Russell Mead describes the current reality in Europe as the dream of a single currency unravels at an ever-increasing pace:

...For the eurozone to survive as it now stands, house prices, wages, the cost of meals in restaurants, groceries, and so on would all have to fall by as much as 50 percent in the periphery. That can’t happen without massive losses to banks, which have lent money based on current price levels. These loans cannot be repaid if prices fall that far. And this kind of price adjustment also means massive unemployment, probably dragging on for many years...

...this situation means that Europe’s single currency has in effect already failed. €300,000 in Germany is not the same as €300,000 in Italy or Spain, and there is no way to equalize values without years of wretched and ruinous pain.

There are lots of consequences, but the one that may cause the most trouble fastest has to do with banking. If a Spanish euro is really worth much less than a German euro, sooner or later bank deposits in Spain are going to be worth less than bank deposits in Germany. Intelligent people will realize this and start moving their bank deposits out of Spanish banks and into German or even non-eurozone banks; those who fail to do this stand to lose a lot of money when the system finally snaps...

And now is the time when we juxtapose! Mr. Peabody, set the Wayback Machine to January 7, 2002 and turn the channel to The Nightly Business Report, where The New York Times' Paul F. Krugman offered the following commentary:

So now Europe has a single currency. Should Americans care? At first, the euro won't make much of a difference to you and me. Vacations in Europe will be a bit easier to arrange, but they will also be a bit more expensive because the arrival of euro notes will give the currency a boost.

It will take years, maybe decades, before the impact of the euro really hits home. But then it will rock your world. The euro, you see, isn't mainly about economics...

For Europe's economy is as big as America's; Europe's technological sophistication is a match for our own; Europe's population is by and large better-educated. What that means is that soon, for the first time since World War II, we will face a political and economic equal - not an enemy, but another power that offers an alternative model of how a modern society can and should be run.

Europe shares many of our values, including a deep commitment to democracy. But it also disagrees with us about some things, including the appropriate level of taxes and social benefits. Until now, we haven't had to take those differences seriously; we were a superpower and they weren't. Now that may change, and I think that's all to the good. I love big, multicultural democracies; I love them so much I want to see two of them, so we can learn from each other. Viva la difference! I'm Paul Krugman.

But not to worry, gentle readers. Despite his train-wreck of a record -- including Enron and the "Housing Bubble", to name but a few -- Krugman can predict with absolute certainty the inconsequential ramifications of massive sovereign deficits as well as the dire environmental catastrophe that awaits us because of... Carbon Dioxide.

At least that's what passes for the intelligentsia on the Left would have you believe.

QOTD: "[Immigration Reform is] not exactly working out that way in Britain, and seems even less likely to do so in America. Were "comprehensive immigration reform" to bring all 11 million members (a lowball estimate) of the Undocumented-American community out of the shadows and put them on the "pathway to citizenship," how many would vote Republican? Two million? Three? Of the millions more parents, grandparents, and other relatives who would follow through "family reunification," what proportion of those dependents would be receptive to whatever remains of the GOP message? Twenty percent? Thirty? By comparison with the United States, Canada and Australia have genuinely diversified immigration programs drawing from across the planet, and conservatives have had some success in wooing Chinese, Indians, and other demographics to their banner. But the retrospective legalization of a vast, unrepresentative army of the Undocumented from one corner of the globe would transform America demographically into California, the once-golden state where no Republican can be elected except a pandering celebrity squish such as Schwarzenegger who is willing to serve as frontman for the Democrats." --Mark Steyn

PHOTOS: Suspect Has Large, Black Backpack Before Bombing, Appears to Have Shed It Moments Later [Updated]

Fascinating photos and accompanying descriptions from Jim Hoft (depicting the site of the first explosion).

These photos from yesterday’s marathon were forwarded to me from a trusted source and came from a Japanese Flickr account. This photo here shows the Boston crowd before the bombing...

Interesting. Notice the female in white who appears to accompany the male, even as he seems to depart.

In the final photo, she almost seems in position to access the backpack.

Speculation, to be sure, but certainly intriguing.

Update: Some zooms. I've been staring at this first photo for a bit. Note both hands on the backpack straps, as if the weight is substantial and he's trying to relieve the pressure. Furthermore, notice that he's not paying the least bit of attention to the race (ostensibly the reason he's there). He's staring straight down, head jutting forward as if to offset the weight.

In the second photo, he no longer appears burdened with the backpack. He's standing straight up and his hands are not in view. Did his companion help him shed the backpack?

Update II: Two more spotted at Deadspin:

Is this the same man spotted passing by the site of the second explosion?

Update III: Yet another black backpack spotted at the scene, seen at Dan Riehl's site (via BadBlue News).

Update IV: What happens when you give 4chan images of the Boston Marathon?

Update V: Dan Riehl: Possible Marathon Bombing suspect:

Orr said authorities have video of a man in a black jacket on a cell phone, wearing a gray hoodie and a white baseball cap backwards placing a black bag at the second bomb site outside of the Forum restaurant on Boylston Street and then leaving the area before that explosion.

And Jim Hoft adds this to the mix:

Two more 4chan.

Democrat Hack: Hey, Stop Blabbing About the Boston Bombings So We Can Pass Gun Control

These Democrats are the lowest of the low.

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., said that the families of Sandy Hook are grieving from a tragedy just as Bostonians are, as he called for Congress to focus on passing a gun bill.

“We’ve go to get back to work to make sure we can listen to the American people who still want us . . . to pass a background check,” Murphy said on MSNBC...

These tools are always in a hurry when it comes to relieving Americans of their wallets ... or their liberty.

Hey, Murphy: No one needs a pressure cooker that can hold three or more chickens! We need common-sense pressure cooker control, now!

Get to work, Murph: register all pressure cookers. License all dealers of pressure cookers. Eliminate the garage sale loophole for pressure cooker sales.

And we need to impose universal background checks on all pressure cooker purchases.

It's for the children, so hurry!

Crime Scene Photos of Pressure Cooker Bomb Leaked

Fox News Atlanta on items recovered at the location of the first explosion:

The bomb that exploded at the finish line of Monday's Boston Marathon sent shock waves across the country. Crime scene photos obtained exclusively by FOX 5 Atlanta are the first look at what is left of the first deadly device.

The investigation into the explosion is already well underway, as agents sift through the remaining pieces of the bomb-- hoping to draw a clear picture of how it was built, where it was built, and ultimately, who built it.

The Associated Press has reported that the device was a pressure cooker bomb-- common cookware throughout the world. The crime scene pictures obtained by the FOX 5 I-Team show pieces of a stainless steel pressure cooker with an Underwriters Laboratory number. One picture shows the imprint: Gas and Electric.

Another picture shows what appears to be a black, padded knapsack or duffel bag. Various news outlets have reported that the bomb was carried in a black bag.

WHDH Channel 7's photos depict the site of the second explosion:

Photos sent to 7News by a viewer show the scene just before and right after the bombs went off on Boylston Street.

7News has provided these pictures to the FBI as they continue their investigation. They are looking at the pictures to see if it's possible it could be the second bomb.

In the first picture you can see a bag next to a mailbox and up against a barricade along the marathon route. In the second, which we have blurred because it is very graphic, there is no sign of the bag. The viewer who took the pictures says there may be an hour or more between when the first and second pictures were taken.

QOTD: "At first look, the devices used in the attack appear to have been rudimentary explosive devices constructed with a common homemade explosive mixture. In other words, virtually anyone could have constructed them using readily available items. Although made of common items, it appears the bombmaker intended the devices to cause maximum casualties by adding shrapnel to multiple devices planted at a heavily congested event.

Still, investigators will painstakingly search the crime scene for evidence that could help identify the bombmaker. They will look for fragments of the device that they can use to potentially trace their origin. They will also be looking for evidence that could identify the bombmaker, such as fingerprints, fiber evidence and traces of DNA. If reports of multiple undetonated devices being located are true -- and they may not be, since in the wake of a blast everything tends to look like an improvised explosive device -- then the undetonated devices will provide a treasure trove of forensic evidence for the investigators to work with.

While any number of actors could have conducted this attack based on the simplicity of the devices, it took some degree of planning to create and place multiple devices. Many different types of groups have used multiple devices in terrorist attacks, so that fact alone does not help identify the culprits. But if there were multiple unexploded devices recovered from different areas in Boston in addition to the two that did detonate, this would indicate that more than one person carried out the attacks, meaning an organized group was involved rather than a lone wolf. Multiple unexploded devices could suggest some sort of tactical incompetence presented by the attackers. Long race venues such as the Boston Marathon also spread out security resources over large areas, likely allowing the attackers to more easily plant multiple devices throughout the city without being detected." --Stratfor Research

Boston Marathon Attack Map: Before and After Photos [Graphic]

Be advised: some graphic photos below.

First Explosion Site

Second Explosion Site

Fox News Catherine Herridge reports that a 20-year old Saudi national -- in the U.S. on a student visa -- is a "person of interest", hospitalized with severe burns. Former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino noted that the hospital area is being guarded by a Special Weapons Team, which would indicate more than a passing interest in the individual.

In 2012, 20,677 student visas were granted to Saudi citizens.

BOSTON TERROR AFTERMATH: CBS News joins New York Post in reporting that a "Saudi National" is in Custody

Via Dan Riehl, CBS Boston relays word that:

CBS News senior correspondent John Miller said there is “an individual in custody,” a Saudi national who was near the scene of the blast.

Miller said a civilian claims the person was acting suspiciously and chased him down and tackled him after the explosions.

The man is said to be cooperating with investigators and denies any involvement.

While unconfirmed by authorities, this jibes with an earlier report by The New York Post:

Investigators have a suspect — a Saudi Arabian national — in the horrific Boston Marathon bombings, The Post has learned.

Law enforcement sources said the 20-year-old suspect was under guard at an undisclosed Boston hospital.

Fox News reported that the suspect suffered severe burns.

It was not immediately clear why the man was hospitalized and whether he was injured in the attack or in his apprehension.

The man was caught less than two hours after the 2:50 p.m. bombing on the finish line of the race, in the heart of Boston...

In addition, Boston police have surveillance video of someone bringing multiple backpacks to the blast site, according to CBS News.

To be clear, this is preliminary information. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by this terrorist attack.

The 3 Most Dangerous Provisions of the Schumer-Toomey-Manchin Gun Grab Legislation

3 The Bill Will Lead to a Federal Gun Registry:
It would be a bad idea for Congress to give Attorney General Eric Holder the broadest possible discretion by empowering him to implement the STM background check legislation by regulations “notwithstanding any other provision” of the legislation. Perhaps the courts would say the anti-gun registry provisions prevail over the “notwithstanding” clause and there can be no step toward a gun registry, and perhaps the courts would say the “notwithstanding” clause displaces the anti-gun registry provisions and Attorney General Holder can start toward a gun registry.

The statutory rights of Americans to live free from a federal government registry of everybody who has firearms, what types of firearms they have, and where they have them should not be left to the judicial roulette of liberal judges in some courts and conservative judges in others.

2 It Eviscerates HIPAA Privacy Rights:
The STM gun control legislation eliminates any HIPAA privacy protection for mental health records in connection with the NICS system, leaving only what privacy protection the Attorney General cares to provide. The STM legislation says that information collected under the law by Attorney General Eric Holder to help him enforce the prohibition on firearms possession by mental defectives or people committed to mental institutions “shall not be subject to [HIPAA]

1 It Facilitates Undercover Busts of Innocents at Gun Shows:
Congress has made gun laws so complex that even the well-meaning, law-abiding citizen who owns firearms will have a hard time learning about and complying with every firearms law and regulation on the books. It is unreasonable to assume that every person at a gun show will automatically know that it is a crime to transfer a firearm without a necessary background check. The STM bill’s new undercover sting provision is a trap for the innocent.

Giving Attorney General Eric Holder unfettered power to further shred the Constitution is unacceptable.

This bill must be stopped.

Like Sarah Palin and Mark Levin, I will work to defeat anyone who supports this madness, starting with Pat Toomey.
