MEANWHILE, IN GUN-FREE CHICAGO: 7 Dead, 30 Wounded So Far This Weekend

These people are going to be in so much trouble when they get caught.

Seven people were killed and at least 30 others were shot in violence that plagued Chicago over Father's Day weekend.

Five of the fatalities and 11 other shootings occurred overnight Saturday leading into Father's Day, including the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy.

On the Southwest Side, five people were shot, one fatally, in two shootings in the Little Village neighborhood.

At 10:50 p.m. Saturday 21-year-old Ricardo Herrera was killed and two others were shot in the 2500 block of South Ridgeway Avenue, police said. The two injured were taken to Mount Sinai. There condition was not immediately know.

At 12:30 a.m. Sunday, an 18-year-old man was shot in the head, chest and shoulder in a drive by shooting that also injured a 22-year-old woman in the thigh near 31st Street and Pulaski Road.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai in critical condition, according to Police News Affairs Officer Mirabelli.
At 11:45 p.m. Saturday a 16-year-old boy was shot by a gunman on a bicycle in the 4100 block of West North Avenue, police said.

The boy tried to flee but collapsed a short distance from where he was shot... He was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center after sustaining gunshot wounds to the left arm and back, Mirabelli said... His death was ruled a homicide but police had no one in custody as of Sunday morning.

Just after midnight Sunday, someone opened fire in a nightclub in the Chatham neighborhood, killing one man and injuring three others... Todd Wood, 40, was killed in the shooting and three others were treated for gunshot wounds at area hospitals. One person is in critical condition, officials said... No one was in custody for the shooting as of Sunday morning.

As a commenter on NBC Chicago's website observed, "This is what three generations of federal handouts coupled with the land's strictest gun control laws looks like. This is the Democratic Party's vision for all of America."

SO VERY, VERY SAD: Democrat John Larson says it's "simply not fair" to subject Congress to Obamacare

Well, we wouldn't want members of our ruling class suffering with the rest of us.

When the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) was being debated, proponents were accused of saddling Americans with inferior and expensive health care while keeping generous coverage for themselves at taxpayer expense. To rebut that allegation and build confidence in the bill, a provision was added mandating that members of Congress – and their staff members – get their coverage through the new exchange system the bill set up. Now that the time to sign up for exchange coverage is nearing, a Democratic member, Rep. John Larson (D., Conn.), is saying that “this is simply not fair” – as key staff members head for the exits to avoid Obamacare.

Politico reports that “many on Capitol Hill fear it could lead to a brain drain” and notes that “[t]he problem is far more acute in the House, where lawmakers and aides are generally younger and less wealthy.”

What? Obamacare disproportionally hurts those with lower incomes? It may come as a surprise, but it shouldn’t. We’ve known this since before the legislation even passed.

More to the point, why did Rep. Larson vote to impose on the country a health coverage system that “is simply not fair”?

Sarah Palin is right. The problem isn't a few agents in Cincinnati "going rogue". And it's not a few reporters -- and their parents -- being targeted for doing their job. And it's not a couple dozen contractors leaking classified documents. The problem is government grown so big that it intrudes into every aspect of our lives.

ATTENTION, REP. GOODLATTE: Ask Eric Holder Whether He Knows Who Hacked CBS News' Sharyl Attkisson's PC

CBS News has confirmed that the personal computer of its outstanding investigative reporter was compromised on multiple occasions while she was working on exposing the Obama administration's handling of the Benghazi assassinations.

CBS News spokeswoman Sonya McNair said that a cybersecurity firm hired by CBS News "has determined through forensic analysis" that "Attkisson's computer was accessed by an unauthorized, external, unknown party on multiple occasions in late 2012."

"Evidence suggests this party performed all access remotely using Attkisson's accounts. While no malicious code was found, forensic analysis revealed an intruder had executed commands that appeared to involve search and exfiltration of data. This party also used sophisticated methods to remove all possible indications of unauthorized activity, and alter system times to cause further confusion. CBS News is taking steps to identify the responsible party and their method of access."

And who does the news organization suspect may have been behind the hacking?

Friday's announcement comes on the heels of last month's revelation that the Justice Department had seized the emails and phone records of Fox News correspondent James Rosen.

To be clear, the federal government has not been accused in the intrusion of Attkisson's computer; CBS News is continuing to work to identify the responsible party.

But the federal government certainly had the means, motive and opportunity to commit this crime.

We have an administration that has relentlessly attacked the media, publicly and privately, for doing their job. The White House's public condemnation of Fox News, its massive net thrown over the Associated Press during the North Korea leak "investigation", and its unprecedented attacks on Fox reporter James Rosen are all examples of a government that will tolerate no dissent from the press.

Our media operate as they would under a third-world dictator -- think Hugo Chavez' Venezuela, for instance -- because we have heard only muted outrage from the press over these unprecedented, repeated attacks on the First Amendment.

As Attorney General, Eric Holder has been at the center of a series of scandals. His most recent disregard for the law, involved apparent perjurious testimony to Congress over the Rosen matter. Congress was sufficiently incensed by his statements, which were subsequently revealed as untruthful, that they had threatened him with yet another subpoena.

Attorney General Eric Holder has agreed to meet with House Republicans as part of their probe into whether he misled Congress or acted inappropriately in the Justice Department’s investigation of two separate leaks to media outlets.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) made the announcement late Friday after exchanging several weeks worth of testy letters with the nation’s top cop.

In agreeing to meet with the lawmakers, Holder staved off the threat of a subpoena from Goodlatte for a second time in as many weeks.

Some relatively sober observers believe the White House is the likely culprit behind the Attkisson hacking and that it smells like the makings of a true Watergate-level scandal.

This is obviously a politically-motivated crime, not a personally- or economically-motivated one. That doesn't mean the government had anything to do with it, but it certainly seems that someone favorably inclined towards the government did.

Perhaps one of those legions encouraged to "get in their faces," like the staff of the IRS.

Hacking is a federal crime, is it not? Can we expect Robert Mueller to get his Top Men (whoever they are, he doesn't know) on this like he did with the IRS scandal?

So, Rep. Goodlatte -- or any other members of the House with a patriotic bone in their bodies (seemingly in very short supply these days) -- perhaps you could ask Eric Holder the following question:

"Are you aware of any attempt -- by any party -- to hack, compromise or otherwise target any computing device of any member of the press?"

GEE, MARCO: What's in this Amnesty Bill for Us, the American People?

Could someone in the Republican establishment please answer a simple question for me: What aspect of this "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" bill will benefit the American people?

Can John Boehner step away from his bottle of Maker's Mark to tell us? Can John McCain peel himself away from the front of a camera to let us know? Can Karl Rove put the white board down, stop checking his E*Trade account for seven minutes, and explain? Can Paul Ryan take a break from PX-9 for a day and write a white paper explaining how this 1000-page monstrosity -- that, just like Obamacare, not a single person has read -- will benefit we, the people?

It's not to drive down unemployment, because legalizing millions of mostly low-skilled workers will drive wages down, starting with the lowest wage-earners and rippling upward.

It's not to improve border security, because they've already informed us they won't enforce the border as a pre-condition to passing the bill -- and they certainly don't enforce border security today.

It's not to begin addressing the deficit, because illegal aliens are net "takers", on average receiving thousands of dollars more government benefits than they pay into the system.

It's not to reinforce American traditions and values, because there are no enforceable language and education requirements in the bill that prevent the Balkanization of our society.

It's not to enforce the rule of law or drive down crime, because illegals today can commit multiple misdemeanors and even felonies without fear of deportation or imprisonment.

It's not to drive down dependency on government, because most illegals in the country today utilize food stamps, free health care, and other benefits subsidized by you and I.

Here's the straight truth: You and I, my friends, are second-class citizens. We pay for this government. We pay for this federal leviathan. We put our blood, sweat and tears into taking care of ourselves, our families, our churches, our charities, and our friends, sending 30, 40, 50, 60 cents of every dollar to the government for the privilege.

Some of us work two, three and even four jobs to send our kids to college. Some of us work 60, 70, 80, 90 hours a week to make a better life for ourselves. Some of us risk everything -- everything we possess -- to start a business.

But it is the illegal alien who is noble and virtuous. Not us. The illegal alien.

And Washington doesn't care. There's not a single redeeming aspect of this bill for us. Not one. It won't create jobs, it will destroy jobs. It won't help address the deficit, it will explode the deficit. It won't help national security, it will erode our security. It won't reinforce the use of the English language and teach our history, tradition and values, it will instead encourage multiculturalism and Balkanization. It won't drive down crime, it will encourage lawbreaking. It won't reduce government dependency, it will accelerate that addiction.

What's in this bill for us? Not a thing. This bill is for the ruling class, the Beltway elite, and it is designed to accelerate the fundamental transformation of America into something more malevolent, corrupt and tyrannical. For that is the way of the Statists who today treat us as subjects and not free men and women. These non-representatives do not have our best interests in mind and they are no longer operating with the consent of the governed.

NV Gov. Sandoval delivers sharp, openhanded, stinging slap to pint-sized, would-be dictator Michael Bloomberg

Here's a little bit of good news for regular Americans -- not irregular Americans, progressives, drones and other kooks -- that might just bring you a smile. Yesterday marked a particularly nice victory for gun rights and an especially painful smackdown for Bloomberg (the scale-model Fuhrer, not the news service).

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval just vetoed SB 221, an unconstitutional, New York-style bill that would punish law-abiding citizens for exercising their Second Amendment rights.

Gov. Brian Sandoval vetoed a bill Thursday that would have required a background check almost any time a firearm changes hands in Nevada, carrying through on his earlier promises to kill legislation that attracted interest in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting and a rampage at a Nevada restaurant in 2011.

In his veto message, Sandoval said the universal background checks provision "imposes unreasonable burdens and harsh penalties upon law-abiding Nevadans, while doing little to prevent criminals from unlawfully obtaining firearms."

[It] would have required a background check almost any time a firearm changes hands — regardless of whether the exchange is permanent or a loan — and enacted certain improvements to laws relating to mentally ill people and guns... Sandoval praised the mental health reporting requirements in his veto message, but the hotly contested background checks provisions constituted an "erosion of Nevadans' Second Amendment rights."

...It is a significant defeat for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's gun control advocacy group, Mayor's Against Illegal Guns, which spent hundreds of thousands of dollars working to get the bill passed.

The group bought numerous ads on social media sites, news websites and television, in addition to mailing out materials attacking select lawmakers who voted against the bill during the session. Video ads pressuring Sandoval to sign the bill surfaced immediately following the Assembly nod of approval.

...Notably absent in the veto message was any mention of the call records to this system. In the days leading up to the veto, tens of thousands of calls were being registered daily — with about three callers urging a veto for every one caller supporting the bill.

The NRA notes that it took "an extraordinary grassroots effort, thousands of concerned Nevadans called their representatives and Governor Sandoval's office in Carson City to oppose this legislation and remind those lawmakers that their duty is to protect our rights."

Well done, citizens of Nevada. And well done, Gov. Sandoval. We salute you.

PERFECT: Obama's Total National Surveillance Dragnet Excludes......... Wait For It......... Mosques

Guest post by Investors Business Daily.

Homeland Insecurity: The White House assures that tracking our every phone call and keystroke is to stop terrorists, and yet it won't snoop in mosques, where the terrorists are.

That's right, the government's sweeping surveillance of our most private communications excludes the jihad factories where homegrown terrorists are radicalized.

Since October 2011, mosques have been off-limits to FBI agents. No more surveillance or undercover string operations without high-level approval from a special oversight body at the Justice Department dubbed the Sensitive Operations Review Committee.

Who makes up this body, and how do they decide requests? Nobody knows; the names of the chairman, members and staff are kept secret.

We do know the panel was set up under pressure from Islamist groups who complained about FBI stings at mosques. Just months before the panel's formation, the Council on American-Islamic Relations teamed up with the ACLU to sue the FBI for allegedly violating the civil rights of Muslims in Los Angeles by hiring an undercover agent to infiltrate and monitor mosques there.

Before mosques were excluded from the otherwise wide domestic spy net the administration has cast, the FBI launched dozens of successful sting operations against homegrown jihadists — inside mosques — and disrupted dozens of plots against the homeland.

If only they were allowed to continue, perhaps the many victims of the Boston Marathon bombings would not have lost their lives and limbs. The FBI never canvassed Boston mosques until four days after the April 15 attacks, and it did not check out the radical Boston mosque where the Muslim bombers worshipped.

The bureau didn't even contact mosque leaders for help in identifying their images after those images were captured on closed-circuit TV cameras and cellphones.

One of the Muslim bombers made extremist outbursts during worship, yet because the mosque wasn't monitored, red flags didn't go off inside the FBI about his increasing radicalization before the attacks.

This is particularly disturbing in light of recent independent surveys of American mosques, which reveal some 80% of them preach violent jihad or distribute violent literature to worshippers.

What other five-alarm jihadists are counterterrorism officials missing right now, thanks to restrictions on monitoring the one area they should be monitoring?

QOTD: "[The IRS' Lois] Lerner, it is prudent to assume, is one among thousands like her who infest the regulatory state. She is not just a bureaucratic bully and a slithering partisan; she also is a national security problem, because she is contributing to a comprehensive distrust of government.

The case for the National Security Agency's gathering of metadata is: America is threatened not by a nation but by a network, dispersed and largely invisible until made visible by connecting dots. The network cannot help but leave, as we all do daily, a digital trail of cellphone, credit card and Internet uses. The dots are in such data; algorithms connect them. The technological gathering of 300 billion bits of data is less menacing than the gathering of 300 by bureaucrats. Mass gatherings by the executive branch twice receive judicial scrutiny, once concerning phone and Internet usages, another concerning the content of messages.

The case against the NSA is: Lois Lerner and others of her ilk." --George Will

What is Lindsey Graham Hiding?

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) doesn't believe in the Bill of Rights. The Fourth Amendment, which protects Americans from random search and seizure, is a joke to Graham. How can I tell? Because he's defending the random collection of billions of domestic phone calls as lawful and proper.

“I don’t think you’re talking to terrorists, I know you’re not, I know I’m not, so we don’t have anything to worry about,” Graham said. “I’m glad the activity’s going on but it is limited to tracking people who are suspected to be terrorists and who they may be talking to.”

Well, Lindsey, FreedomWorks is asking you to turn over your email password. You know, since you're not talking to terrorists, what do you have to hide? You should lead by example.

Sign the petition and demand Senator Lindsey Graham reveal his email passwords. If Lindsey Graham is so eager to surrender our privacies as citizens, he should go first!

TRANSCRIPT: Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes' Complete Speech After Accepting the Bradley Prize

Earlier today Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes won the $250,000 Bradley Foundation Prize for creating Fox News Channel, deemed by the group to be a thoroughly American institution. Ailes donated the prize to a senior citizens charity. The following is the transcript of his acceptance speech:

America needs all of us to leave here tonight, renewed in our spirit and determination to turn this country forward to the future. I won’t say turn it around because yesterday is gone, so we must all focus on defining the themes for the future and lead the people to it.

My remarks tonight are my own, and don’t necessarily reflect those of News Corporation, Rupert Murdoch or Fox. I will say, however, that I didn’t give up my citizenship to create and run a news organization. I speak here with the highest authority and title anyone could ever aspire to -- citizen of the United States.

We must stop waving our extended arms in an effort to balance ourselves as we tiptoe along the edges of the Constitution, in an effort not to upset weak-kneed appeasers, with our unflinching belief in the ideas and principles that made our country different and yes, great!

Are we losing America to the inevitable onrushing tides of history? No. But we are in a storm, the mast is broken, the compass is barely functioning, and there is a big damned hole in the boat!

We have allowed ourselves to be manipulated by others, many of whom want to impose their culture and laws under the manufactured utopian idea that all cultures are equal and most are better than America’s. Of course all people should be proud of their heritage. They should teach their children to be proud of their history and traditions.

Immigrants will always be welcome here. But America is a culture, too.

MUST-READ: Mark Levin Smashes GOP Establishment on Comprehensive Democrat Importation Reform

Transcript by Mark Levin, 6/12/2013

So John Boehner says passing immigration reform is his number one priority. Not the economy. Not national security. Not the deficit. No. Immigration reform is his number one priority...

Congress has money for everything, it's got money for Obamaphones, everything. It's raining money in Washington. Seven of the wealthiest counties in the U.S. surround the District of Columbia, but they don't have money to secure the border.

What are we going to do with these 11 million people, they ask? What are we going to about these 11 million people?

First of all, as a result of over three decades of your incompetence, these people are here. That's number one.

Number two, our great president of the United States refuses to enforce the law.

Number three, our great Congress of the United States refuses to fund border security.

Number four, our great Supreme Court just undermined every state's ability to protect its own citizens.

Now what are we going to do about it? They create these messes and somehow you and I have to fix them?

Let me be as clear as I know how about this: Washington is incapable of reforming itself. Every single day behind this microphone, every single damn day, we're talking about what these people are doing to you and me. The NSA doesn't exist in a vacuum: the Congress is in control of that. The IRS doesn't exist in a vacuum; Congess is in control of that. The EPA, all the rest of it. All the rest of it, yet this is the number one priority of the Speaker of the House.

And look at this Kelly Ayotte, "Tea Party" candidate, slobbering all over herself, supporting this thousand-page bill she doesn't even understand. And I can go on and on, and I will go on and on. I've had it. I'll ask the question I've been asking for months:

What the hell does the Republican Party stand for? What does the Republican Party stand for today? Limited government? When? Where? How? Border security? National security? No. If you're not for border security, you're not for national security. So they're not for national security. So what are they for? Cutting spending? Where? When? How? Even when they controlled the whole damn government, did they control spending?

They think you're so stupid, they really do. What they learn from the liberals are techniques to bamboozle you. So the Speaker of the House, who famously says endlessly, "we only control one-half of one-third of the government", now he's taking the bull by the horns. To expand the government, to create new bureaucrats, to spend more money. And to legalize illegals.

QOTD: "The federal surveillance programs revealed in media reports are just "the tip of the iceberg," a House Democrat said Wednesday... Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.) said lawmakers learned "significantly more" about the spy programs at the National Security Agency (NSA) during a briefing on Tuesday with counterterrorism officials... "What we learned in there," Sanchez said, "is significantly more than what is out in the media today."

..."I can't speak to what we learned in there, and I don't know if there are other leaks, if there's more information somewhere, if somebody else is going to step up, but I will tell you that I believe it's the tip of the iceberg," she said." --Daniel Strauss

NOT-SO-GREAT SOCIETY: Fatherlessness in America

LBJ's "Great Society" represented a massive redistribution of wealth that built a permanent culture of dependency in America. And one of its senseless and tragic consequences was the dramatic rise of the single-parent family.

Sixty percent of kids in Richmond, Virginia, are without a dad in the home, reports First Things First of Greater Richmond... First Things First works to help men become actively involved in their children’s lives in Richmond, Virginia, because, as the group explains, often “it’s the fathers that leave the family.… [W]e have a major father absenteeism issue in Richmond.”

Across the nation, over one-quarter of all children live in single-parent households. Most of these children live with their mothers.

...When children do not have stable relationships with their dads, marked by frequent involvement, they are more susceptible to depression and are more likely to abuse drugs, or demonstrate delinquent behavior.

Children who live in single-parent households are also 82 percent more likely to experience child poverty.

With the unmarried birth rate high among young women with the lowest levels of education, single-mother households now comprise more than half of all families living in poverty. Without the relative financial stability marriage can provide, single parents and their children are at greater risk of government dependence. Of the roughly $1 trillion spent on welfare funding to low-income families with children, almost three-quarters went to single-parent—and often fatherless—households.

When fathers play an active role in the lives of their children, they make a tangible difference. Children whose fathers spent time with them doing day-to-day activities such as homework, eating dinner, or playing sports earned better grades on average than peers who had less access to their fathers.

COMFORTING: Obama Appointee Who Heads U.S. Nuclear Security Agency Is Hacked and Publicly Humiliated

When one asks -- pertaining to the Obama administration -- the rhetorical and semi-serious question "What could possibly go wrong?" the real answer is: everything.

The Obama administration official who heads the agency responsible for maintaining the country’s nuclear stockpile as well as securing “loose nukes” worldwide is the latest victim of “Guccifer.”

Neile Miller, acting administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) recently had her Facebook account breached by the notorious hacker, who also apparently illegally accessed one of Miller’s personal e-mail accounts.

In 2010, Obama nominated Miller, 55, for the principal deputy administrator’s post at NNSA (she was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in August 2010). Following the departure of the agency’s administrator in January, Miller stepped up into the post of acting administrator.

Miller, who has top secret security clearances, runs an agency with a broad portfolio of nuclear-related responsibilities, including managing and securing the nation’s nuclear weapons and keeping weapons of mass destruction “out of the hands of state and non-state actors.” The NNSA has a $12 billion annual budget, 2500 employees, and 35,000 other contract workers.

...Through an NNSA spokesperson, Miller--who last month announced that she was leaving her government post effective June 14--declined to comment beyond noting that “these were personal accounts and no classified information was accessed.”

...Several months into an online strafing campaign, “Guccifer” appears unconcerned about the law enforcement effort to capture him/her/them. “My end is far,” the hacker noted in an e-mail “Remember this is another chapter of the game.”

Feel better yet?
