PLAN OF ACTION: The Complete list of Holdouts Who Must Be Convinced to Form a Select Committee on Benghazi

Guest post by Walid Shoebat

As of this writing, there are 161 co-sponsors (all Republicans) of Rep. Frank Wolf’s HR-36. This resolution would require the formation of a Select Committee to investigate what happened in Benghazi on 9/11/12. Of course, with 234 Republican congressmen in the House, this leaves 73 Representatives who have not endorsed Wolf’s Resolution; their names and telephone numbers are listed below.

At first blush, it would seem that the Republican establishment has dug in its heels and is refusing to honor the spirit of the ‘Hastert Rule’, which states that no bill will come to the floor without the majority of the majority party being behind it. HR-36 is a Resolution that has nearly 70% of House Republican support. The names of all three members of House leadership – Speaker John Boehner, Majority leader Eric Cantor, and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy – are all absent from Wolf’s resolution. So is establishment wannabe, Paul Ryan.

Conservatives vs. establishment, right? Well…..

You’ll note that names like Jason Chaffetz (UT), Patrick McHenry (NC), James Lankford (OK), Darrell Issa (CA), and other bulldog conservatives in the Benghazi investigation are on the list of congressmen who have not endorsed HR-36 too. Why?

Let’s consider Wolf’s proposal. Remember what the makeup of a Select Committee would be under HR-36:

…in December 2012, I introduced a bill to create a House Select Committee on the Terrorist Attack in Benghazi, which would have full subpoena power to fully investigate what happened in Benghazi and the Obama Administration’s response. The committee would be comprised of the chairmen and ranking members of the committees on Intelligence, Foreign Affairs, Armed Services, Judiciary, Homeland Security and Government Reform and Oversight, with other members appointed by House leaders based on expertise.

What this means is that the only two members from the House Oversight Committee who would be guaranteed positions on the Select Committee would be Issa and Ranking Member / liar / registered socialist Elijah Cummings (D-MD). Chaffetz and McHenry sit on that committee and would be odd men out if they didn’t make the cut. Issa – and other chairmen – may not be signing on to the amendment because they want their best members involved. There is definitely something to be said for this.

For example, Chaffetz has been extremely close to the Benghazi investigation. He went to Tripoli in the weeks after the attack. He has been among the best of the best in demanding answers. There would be something wrong if he wasn’t on the committee while someone like registered socialist John Conyers was on it (as the ranking member of the House Judiciary, Conyers would be on the Select Committee).

We would suggest that Wolf might get more congressmen to jump on board if chairmen of committees that would be included had greater latitude in determining which of their members would be allowed to serve on the committee as well. Consider that, under Wolf’s Resolution, there are only seven positions on the Select Committee who are not already predetermined based on Chairman / Ranking member status, five of whom could be Republicans and two would likely be Pelosi’s Democrats of choice.

Assuming there’s no law restricting the size of a Select Committee, perhaps Wolf could make the tent bigger and get folks like Chaffetz, McHenry, Lankford, and Issa to join him if Committee chairmen are authorized to have a greater say in selecting additional members.

Check out some of the text from HR-36, via Congress.gov:

(a) The select committee shall be composed of…
(7) Five members appointed by the Speaker.
(8) Two members appointed by the Speaker after consultation
with the minority leader.

If the chair or ranking member of any such committee declines to serve
on the select committee, then the Speaker in the case of a chair, or
the Speaker after consultation with the minority leader in the case of
a ranking member, shall designate the member or members from that
committee to serve on the select committee.
(b) The Speaker shall designate one member as chairman and the
minority leader shall designate one member as the ranking minority
member of the select committee.

While it’s true that any Select Committee that’s formed may exclude the best conservative firebrands, it will also do what these firebrands have not been able to do to this point – put the scandal on the national media stage. A Select Committee would almost necessarily cause mainstream media coverage, which has been so egregiously lacking, despite extremely compelling hearings in the House committees.

It is for these reasons that we believe a House Select Committee – despite its downsides – is the best course of action. As such, we encourage you to contact the congressmen below and urge them to support Wolf’s resolution.

What is the urgency of being able to supply rations within 24 hours? Details here.

Not to worry, friends. Rest assured that despite "Civilian National Security Forces", a massive effort to collect data on the citizenry, all of your most personal health care records in the hands of the IRS, and a Constitution that is routinely mocked and ignored by the President, Congress, the Judiciary and the media, we have nothing to fear.

After all, this is standard fare for a country descending from first- to third-world status.

QOTD: "….Transnationalists want to rewrite the laws of war, do away with the death penalty, restrict gun rights and much more—all without having to win popular majorities or heed American constitutional limits. And these advocates are making major strides under an Obama administration that is itself a hotbed of transnational legal thinking….

To be clear, transnationalism isn’t a conspiratorial enterprise. In the legal academy, its advocates have openly stated their aims and means. “International law now seeks to influence political outcomes within sovereign States,” Anne-Marie Slaughter, then dean of Princeton’s public-affairs school, wrote in an influential 2007 essay. International law, she went on, must expand to include “domestic choices previously left to the determination of national political processes” and be able to “alter domestic politics.”

The preferred entry point for importing foreign norms into American law is the U.S. court system. The Yale Law School scholar Howard Koh, a transnationalist advocate, has written that “domestic courts must play a key role in coordinating U.S. domestic constitutional rules with rules of foreign and international law.” Over the past two decades, activist judges have increasingly cited “evolving” international standards to overturn state laws, and Mr. Koh has suggested that foreign norms can be “downloaded” into American law in this manner…." --WSJ via Tammy Bruce

HOLY CRAP: Chinese Hackers Caught Attacking a Decoy US Water Plant

But don't worry, folks: President Obama is systematically de-funding the United States military, so what could possibly go wrong?

Chinese hackers have been harassing the US in a series of cyberattacks, but we've started trying to talk it out and cool this all down. But in the meantime, a security researcher has just revealed that he caught a team of Chinese hackers hijacking a fake water plant he set up. And aside from spotting the fake, they knew exactly what they were doing.

Kyle Wilhoit, a researcher with security company Trend Micro, explained the details of the whole thing at Black Hat on Wednesday. The hackers that attacked the honeypot are known as APT1 or "Comment Crew," and have been tracked back to the Chinese Army before; this isn't just some group of high-tech hooligans.

According to Wilhoit, the whole thing was extremely and obviously deliberate. He put it this way to the MIT Technology Review:

You would think that Comment Crew wouldn’t come after a local water authority. I actually watched the attacker interface with the machine. It was 100 percent clear they knew what they were doing.

This isn't an isolated case either. Wilhoit also shared information about 12 other decoys that attracted some 74 deliberate attacks from APT1 and other groups, 10 of which were able to completely control of the fake water plants. If the targets had been real and not decoys, the attackers would have had no problem doing pretty much anything they wanted with the infrastructure they managed to snag...

As researcher Trevor Loudon has warned us for years, the People's Republic of China is at war with the United States. Right now.

THE KRUGMAN EFFECT: Value of Boston Globe Plummets From $1 Billion to $75 Million

Liberalism isn't just a mental disorder: it's also a horrible business model.

...After purchasing the Boston Globe in 1993 for a then-record $1.1 billion, the financially troubled New York Times just announced it sold the 141 year-old paper to Boston Red Sox owner John Henry for a mere $70 million. That’s a straight 93% loss. Figuring in two decades of inflation would only make it worse — as does the fact the Times retains the Globe’s pension liabilities, estimated at over $100 million...

...In 2011, the Times turned down a $300 million offer from Aaron Kushner, CEO of Freedom Communications, Inc., publisher of the Orange County Register and other newspapers in California. This offer even included the assumption of pension liabilities, which are currently estimated at $110 million.

The Times itself reports that today’s sale to Henry does not include pension liabilities. Apparently, those remain a Times’ responsibility and expense
...

Think about this for a second.

The New York Times turned down an offer 4 times as large that included the pension costs in order to avoid selling this paper to the owners of the Orange County Register...

• Imagine a Movie section where the liberal themes of a picture were noted and tweaked while the conservative themes were highlighted and celebrated...
• Imagine a culture section where events of a conservative nature were celebrated while liberals pressed to get the press...
• Imagine reviews of plays with conservative themes getting web space and print space and liberal themes hoping for a line or two...
• Imagine stories in the Sunday section celebrating historic places, people and sites that highlight America’s conservative History or people who are conservative doing great things for the community...
• Imagine a whole slew of conservative Journalists cutting their teeth of straight news instead of news with a liberal spin, imagine the farm team it would create...
• Imagine an editorial page giving conservative opinion day after day after day...

What’s $230 million dollars and pension costs to the shareholders when it’s held up against keeping those dirty conservatives out of the neighborhood? Particularly with a tough election coming up in 2014...

Was the management of The New York Times really willing to screw its shareholders out of hundreds of millions of dollars in order to keep its ideological propaganda machine pure?

If true, shareholders should be exploring retaliatory measures.

TRAVESTY: Former Sanford police chief eviscerates the race-baiters in government and the media

PoliceOne's Karen L. Bune has an exclusive interview with former Sanford, Florida Police Chief Bill Lee and Captain Robert O’Connor. Lee describes the utter madness of the Zimmerman charges, orchestrated by the DNC-Holder-Obama-Sharpton Racial Division Complex:

Following the incident, O’Connor was placed in charge of the Zimmerman investigation. Three canvasses of the neighborhood were done the night of the shooting. A video re-enactment was done, and George Zimmerman was cooperative...

...After 48 hours of investigation, the local State’s Attorney was given a run-down of the findings. Lee and O’Connor were told by the State’s Attorney’s Office that there was no criminal case, and there was no way to prosecute. It appeared to be a clear case of self-defense.

...[But when] the dissemination of sensational information began in national media outlets, the department’s Public Information Officer (PIO) was on leave for a family medical situation... By this point, it had become a national story, with both information and misinformation about how the encounter occurred and how Trayvon died.

“The biggest travesty by the media was showing Trayvon when he was 12-13 years old,” O’Connor said. “He was a six foot, 160-pound, 17-year-old young man. Those images of young Trayvon Martin did more to incite this case than anything they would have done, and they did it masterfully.”

Politicians — both near and far — entered into the situation...

After 15 days the investigation was pulled from the Sanford Police Department. The Governor of Florida assigned the case to Angela Corey, the State’s Attorney in the 4th Judicial District in Jacksonville, Florida.

Chief Lee was relieved of his duties and was informed the community no longer had trust in him.

The co-conspirators behind this travesty include Barack Obama, NBC and its deceptive audio-tape edits, Eric Holder, Al Sharpton and the rest of the usual suspects. In a sane world, these people would be laughed off the public stage.

The Benghazi "Phony Scandal": Dead Americans, a Stonewalled Congress, and an AWOL President

Guest post by Investors Business Daily

The Libyan Lie: Dozens more CIA operatives were on the ground in Benghazi than previously acknowledged. Were they running guns to Syrian rebels? And why are they and their families now being intimidated?

The only thing "phony" about the Benghazi scandal has been the cacophony of falsehoods and obfuscation pouring out of the Obama administration about the night four Americans, including the personal representative of President Obama, Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed.

Up to 35 CIA operatives were working in Benghazi the night of the terrorist attack, dozens more than previously reported, raising questions anew of why they were really there, what they were really doing and why the administration has tried so hard to fudge the facts and hide the truth.

One big unanswered question is why there was a CIA annex near to what was supposed to be a fledgling diplomatic outpost in Benghazi — a soon-to-be, we were told, diplomatic mission envisioned as the first fruits of the now-mythical "Arab Spring."

We may have the hint of an answer in revelations by Jake Tapper of CNN that dozens of previously undisclosed people working for the CIA were there that night, and that the agency is now going to great lengths to make sure whatever it was doing remains a secret.

THE GENIUS OF DEMOCRAT RULE: Illinois State Legislator Demands Military Occupation of Chicago

Perhaps we need a phrase to describe the decay of a city that suffers through decades of unchecked Democrat rule. Call it "The Detroit Effect", which Chicago is now experiencing as it follows the Motor City into the fiscal cesspool.

A longtime Chicago lawmaker Tuesday called on Gov. Pat Quinn to send the Illinois State Police and the Illinois National Guard into Chicago to help quell gun violence.

Rep. Monique Davis, a South Side Democrat serving in her 13th term in the House, said she wanted troopers and National Guardsmen “to come to Chicago and work with our mayor, Rahm Emanuel, to provide safety for the children, especially, and for all who walk in Chicago. We deserve. We’re important. Our kids are important.”

She also asked that Quinn appoint a task force to “guide the behavior of the National Guard. We don’t want them to have us fearing them also. We want them there for safety and protection.”

But only two other Democrats accompanying Davis at a Springfield news conference agreed...

QOTD: "...former federal judge Michael McConnell noted there are few means to stop a president who decides he is not obligated to execute laws as passed by Congress. So there's little reason to doubt we'll see more Obamaesque dismissals of established law, as with ObamaCare's employer mandate. Mr. Obama is pushing in a direction that has the potential for a political crisis.

A principled opposition would speak out. Barack Obama is right that he isn't running again. But the Democratic Party is. Their Republican opponents should force the party's incumbents to defend the president's creeping authoritarianism.

If Democratic Senate incumbents or candidates from Louisiana, Alaska, Missouri, Arkansas, North Carolina, Montana and Iowa think voters should accede to a new American system in which a president forces laws into place as his prerogative rather than first passing them through Congress, they should be made to say so.

And to be sure, the other purpose of the shafted middle-class tour is to demolish the GOP's standing with independent voters and take back the House in 2014. If that happens—and absent a more public, aggressive Republican voice it may—an unchecked, unbalanced presidential system will finally arrive." --Daniel Henninger

Let's Play "Spot the Recovery"!

The White House says yesterday's unemployment "report provides further confirmation that the U.S. economy is continuing to recover from the worst downturn since the Great Depression."

Those outlets dutifully churning out "news" reports based upon the White House press release included Bloomberg, State-Run News/PBS (now reduced to blaming Baby Boomer retirements for the malaise), Newsweek, and US News & World Report, to name but a few. But the real picture is decidedly grim.

...this chart plots the employment-population ratio for the same period — that is, the percentage of Americans above age 16 who work for a living:

...You can see the downturn, of course, but where’s the recovery? We’re not “restoring” or “recovering” anything here. We have a working age population that’s growing too fast to employ at the levels we enjoyed for the last two decades.

The charts reflect an ever-greater number of people who would work in better times, but who are instead collecting disability or other government benefits, living in their parents’ basements, or borrowing money to earn extra, unnecessary degrees in hopes that the job market will have improved by the time they get out of grad school.

One of these days, perhaps vintage media could honestly answer the question: why is this recovery the worst since the Great Depression?

THE CLIMATE LIARS: Why would anyone believe a single word out of their mouths?

A brilliant post by Pointman:

Georges Clemenceau, the prime minister of France during WWI, famously remarked after yet another military disaster that war is too important to be left to the generals. In an analogous fashion, when a branch of science is being used to justify the complete restructuring of the global economy, it’s no longer a scientific issue but a political one.

More importantly, it’s the ordinary person who’s being asked to finance initiatives, which will lower their standard of living and significantly increase their tax burden for the coming decades. If you’re the one actually doing the paying, you very definitely want a say, even if you’re not a rocket scientist. He who pays the piper, gets to call the tune.

So, if global warming is too important to be left to the scientists, how can the ordinary person arrive at a reasonable judgement as to its validity? We all have our own way of getting to understand something and personally being a from first principles type of person, asking basic questions about it has always been mine. When it comes to people, meaning the climate scientists in this particular instance, I find the most revealing questions to ask usually begin with why, so let’s take that approach. The seemingly simple but difficult trick is to ask the blindingly obvious questions.

Why is it that every one of the cockups and blunders we uncover in their papers always err towards a warmer global climate?

Why do they persistently withhold the data on which their conclusions are based?

Why do they, in their own words, hide behind Freedom of Information laws, as a reason to keep such data hidden?

Why do they, in their own words again, hide behind Non-disclosure Agreements, as a reason to keep the data hidden?

Why are they so vague about the exact methods used on the data to derive their results?

Why do all their computer climate models run hot?

Why have they consistently overestimated the climate’s sensitivity to CO2?

Why don’t they ever design experiments attempting to disprove their theories?

Why do the Climategate emails reveal their deep private doubts about the science, which they’ve publically reassured everyone was settled?

If the science was so solid, why’d one of their number feel they had to resort to identity theft to discredit the opposition?

Why are they telling each other to delete emails to circumvent Freedom of Information requests?

Why do they feel they’ve got to “redefine the peer review process” to prevent dissenting science papers being published?

Why do they need to get science journal editors removed from their jobs because they dared to publish a dissenting paper?

Why, after being the beneficiary of billions of dollars of research funding in the last two decades, haven’t they by now proved their case beyond a reasonable doubt?

Why is anyone who simply questions the science being equated with a holocaust denier?

The list goes on and on and on.

Crimson Tide Buys Anti-Gravity Treadmill for Rehab Purposes

Even I might be able to run a mile on this thing.

Alabama Football Team's Anti-Gravity Treadmill Is Star Of New Facility: The Future Of Injury Rehabilitation

...Jeff Allen, UA Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, said that the program purchased the anti-gravity trainer a year ago to help current NFL running back Eddie Lacy recover from a toe injury...

"We've had this for a year now. We purchased it when Eddie Lacy had his toe injury," Allen explained... "What this allows us to do is take a guy and run them at a lower percentage of their body weight. Theoretically, if you weigh 200 pounds, I can put you in here and set this to run you at what it would feel like to run at 50 pounds."

Manufacturers of this futuristic training device claim professional athletes as well as Olympians have felt its benefits that include a shortened rehab time. Woodway Treadmills even says that its G-Trainer can help ease amputee patients into a new prosthetic limb.

The patient is placed inside a bubble chamber that surrounds his or her lower body but exposes the upper body. Pressurized air lifts the user up, making him or her feel around 20 percent lighter. Those who have used it compare the feeling to running on water or floating.

Don't look for the Woodway at your local gym anytime soon. If your gym has to ask how much it costs...

QOTD: "The once-great city of Detroit lies in ruins. 50,000 feral dogs roam the city. Abandoned houses litter the landscape. It is a bleak and forlorn future that await Detroit. Creditors clamor for nearly $20 billion in debt. City employees wonder if they will be paid. There’s not enough money to even replace the streetlights in Detroit. God-forbid that a major fire breakout. At some level, I think that the President does care about Detroit; but today, all I can see is the billions of dollars- the billions of American tax dollars- that he chooses to send overseas.”

“The president sends billions of dollars to Egypt in the form of advanced fighter planes and tanks. Meanwhile, Detroit crumbles. Chicago is a warzone; more people will die in Chicago this year than Afghanistan… As Detroit decays, Chicago is a maelstrom of violence and yet no one questions sending billions of your dollars to Egypt, to despots, to dictators in foreign countries.”" --Sen. Rand Paul

LADIES: Here's your front-line in the War On Women™

Binders full of women, indeed.

If held to the same standard as any Republican, a Democrat couldn't have gotten elected Dogcatcher since July 18, 1969. That's the date Mary Jo Kopechne perished while an inebriated* Ted "Lion of the Senate" Kennedy fled the scene in Chappaquiddick.

While Obama slept and then partied in Vegas, wounded Benghazi hero David Ubben waited 20 hours for help

Guest post by Investors Business Daily

Scandal: The former commander of special operations in North Africa says he, like our president, was incommunicado during the Benghazi attack. We may soon hear from the hero who survived 20 hours waiting for help.

During the second wave of attacks on Benghazi, diplomatic security agent David Ubben was on the roof of the CIA annex with two former Navy SEALS. Eventually, several rounds of mortar attacks found their mark, killing Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty while shredding Ubben's right leg.

Ubben was stuck on that rooftop for 20 hours before help finally arrived. He can tell us and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton "what difference does it make" that help was not sent — at least two American lives. Ubben sustained injuries at Benghazi so severe he's still being treated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

DREW JOHNSON: "Take your jobs plan and shove it, Mr. President"

Guest post by Drew Johnson

Chattanooga Times Free Press opinion page editor Drew Johnson was apparently fired for writing a scathing article to Barack Obama, telling him to “Take your jobs plan and shove it...” It was reportedly the paper’s most-read article ever. In honor of Johnson's willingness to Speak Truth To Power (once considered a valued trait in the days when we had a free press), we reproduce his op-ed here.

President Obama,

Welcome to Chattanooga, one of hundreds of cities throughout this great nation struggling to succeed in spite of your foolish policies that limit job creation, stifle economic growth and suffocate the entrepreneurial spirit.

Forgive us if you are not greeted with the same level of Southern hospitality that our area usually bestows on its distinguished guests. You see, we understand you are in town to share your umpteenth different job creation plan during your time in office. If it works as well as your other job creation programs, then thanks, but no thanks. We’d prefer you keep it to yourself.

That’s because your jobs creation plans so far have included a ridiculous government spending spree and punitive tax increase on job creators that were passed, as well as a minimum wage increase that, thankfully, was not. Economists — and regular folks with a basic understanding of math — understand that these are three of the most damaging policies imaginable when a country is mired in unemployment and starving for job growth.

Even though 64 percent of Chattanooga respondents said they would rather you hadn’t chosen to visit our fair city, according to a survey on the Times Free Press website, it’s probably good that you’re here. It will give you an opportunity to see the failure of your most comprehensive jobs plan to date, the disastrous stimulus scheme, up close and personal.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 helped fund the Gig to Nowhere project, a $552 million socialist-style experiment in government-owned Internet, cable and phone services orchestrated by EPB — Chattanooga’s government-owned electric monopoly.
