ATTENTION VOTER ID OPPONENTS: 44,000 Additional Bogus Voters Discovered in Virginia

Guest post by Kenric Ward

RICHMOND, Va. – A crosscheck of voter rolls in Virginia and Maryland turned up 44,000 people registered in both states, a vote-integrity group reported Wednesday.

And that’s just the beginning.

“The Virginia Voters Alliance is investigating how to identify voters who are registered and vote in Virginia but live in the states that surround us,” Alliance President Reagan George told the State Board of Elections.

George acknowledged that the number of voters who actually cast multiple ballots is relatively small. In the case of Maryland and Virginia, he revealed that 164 people voted in both states during the 2012 election.

But George said his group will expand their search for duplicate voters in the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia and Georgia.

“We are also determining the best way to identify non-citizens who have registered to vote and may have voted in past elections,” George said.

QOTD: "Forget the current polling as between Hillary and Elizabeth Warren. It pits Hillary against someone who “isn’t running.”

For all my criticisms of Warren, and they are extensive, I am convinced that if she ran, she would crush Hillary, just as Obama did.

Warren, as did Obama, has a unique ability to demagogue the core Democratic narrative of victimhood in ways that would make Hillary blush. She is more cunning than Hillary, more popular with the base, would bring an excitement the contrived Ready-for-Hillary movement could only dream of. Democrats may be “ready” for Hillary, but they don’t really want her." --William A. Jacobson

YEP, IT'S A GLOBAL EMERGENCY: Sierra Club Directors Drive Around in Gas-Guzzling Jaguars

Dammit, these liberals broke my Hypocrisy Meter again!

Members of the Sierra Club’s board of directors are driving around in gas-guzzling vehicles, despite the group’s support for the Obama administration’s increased fuel efficiency standards.

The Sierra Club strongly supported the Obama administration’s increase in minimum fuel economy standards to 54.4 miles per gallon (mpg) by 2025, but it seems the Club’s top officials don’t practice what they preach.

The Sierra Club’s 15-member board of directors own a combined 32 vehicles, less than one-fifth of which are hybrids or electric vehicles. Seven of the 32 vehicles are sports utility vehicles...

...Two of the Club’s directors buck environmental protection for riding in style, by owning luxury Jaguars which have an average fuel economy of 18 mpg — much lower than the U.S. average fuel economy of 24.8 mpg in 2013.

These people think we're stupid. They sit in their air-conditioned office buildings; they jet around the world; and they drive luxury automobiles all powered by fossil fuels.

They don't give a crap about the environment. They're Marxist low-lifes, bent on control.

ASKED AND ANSWERED: Ezra Klein wonders 'What’s the liberal equivalent of Climate Denial?'

RedState recently spotlighted an excerpt of Ben Domenech's The Transom, which featured a stunning smackdown of the 2013 World's Dumbest Blogger, Ezra Klein.

Ezra smarmily sneers “What’s the liberal equivalent of Climate Denial?” Domenech replies with the most perfect answer in the history of answers. “I assume by ‘climate denial’ Klein means an example where the bulk of real-world data, history, and experience indicate one thing, and liberals either deny its accuracy or say we ought to ignore it in order to pursue some higher aim via the policies they support. Perhaps one or two things may come to mind,” he says.

Caleb Howe was kind enough to render an answer.

"I believe the word you are looking for", Howe notes, "is BOOM."

CBO Purposely Understating Next Decade's Social Security Deficits by... One Trillion Dollars

Financial blogger Bruce Krasting has discovered a teensy, weensy accounting discrepancy between the Congressional Budget Office and the Social Security Administration. It only amounts to a hidden trillion dollar deficit... over the next 10 years.

As Krasting asks, "What's a trillion among friends?"

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) came out with its latest baseline estimates for Social Security (SS) this week... As an ex Wall Streeter I always go to the ‘Cash Flow’ numbers first, as cash flow is what drives most companies to success or ruin. The same rules apply for SS. I was surprised at the results presented by the CBO...

...CBO’s cash flow number for 2013 is a surplus of $38 [billion]... The difference between CBO and SS on the critical cash flow numbers is $106B in just fiscal 2013. The reason for this big discrepancy is the accounting treatment for interest. CBO includes interest income as a cash item, SS does not...

...Should interest be included in the calculation of cash flow for SS? CBO says “yes”, I would agree with SS, and say “no”. Interest is paid in scrip [IOUs] – not cash... CBO and SS disagree on the most basic definition of financial health – Net Cash Flow. CBO has projections going out to 2024. This is CBO’s forecast of Net Cash Flow as compared to the accounting treatment for interest at SS:

The cummulative difference between CBO and SSA is $1.2 Trillion over the the next decade! ... Why does CBO have such a dramatically different assessment of Net Cash Flow for SS? I can’t answer that. I did contact CBO for an explanation, I never heard from them.

And you never will, Bruce. You never will.

SURPRISE: Islamists Seek to Disguise Nature of Islamists' Attacks inside 9/11 Memorial Museum

Guest post by Investor's Business Daily

Death Of Truth: An imam objects to a film set to be shown at the National September 11 Memorial Museum because it might make people believe radical Islam was involved in the terrorist attacks. We're not making this up.

It has been said that the first casualty of war is truth. And in this age of political correctness, the war on terrorism — described by this administration as either over or merely a series of overseas contingency operations in response to man-caused disasters — is a classic example.

The lone imam on an interfaith advisory group to the National September 11 Memorial Museum, set to open May 21, has quit in protest of a seven-minute documentary narrated by NBC anchor and noted right-wing extremist Brian Williams because it might give low-information viewers the impression that the al-Qaida terrorists who attacked America and killed 3,000 people were, dare we say it, Muslims.

"The screening of this film in its present state would greatly offend our local Muslim believers as well as any foreign Muslim visitor to the museum," Sheikh Mostafa Elazabawy, the imam of Masjid Manhattan, wrote in a letter to the museum's director.

Failed Speaker Boehner Squeals and Whines to Mock Fellow Republicans for Refusing to Pass Amnesty

Unbelievable.

Bryan Preston explains:

As anyone who had paid any attention at all knows, the GOP has faced off against Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and the dishonest shills in the mainstream media for years. They have been called “racists” for trying to uphold the rule of law. They have been called “terrorists” and “arsonists” for trying to get rid of Obamacare, an unpopular law that the Democrats foisted on the nation against the majority’s will. And as anyone who has paid any attention at all knows, Obama has proven to be entirely untrustworthy with the basic rule of law.

Boehner himself has questioned whether Obama can be trusted to obey the law. Why, then, is he mocking Republicans? Does he believe that mockery is the way to earn trust? If that’s what he thinks, then he is every inch the unifying leader that Barack Obama is.

What did Boehner think he was accomplishing by mocking Republicans who doubt that Obama will enforce any provision of any immigration reform that he does not like? What did Boehner think he was accomplishing by mocking his own party as it is fighting to take control of the Senate? What kind of an idiot thinks that mocking your allies is any kind of useful or effective leadership?

John Boehner is pitiful. The sooner House Republicans vote him out of the speakership, the better.

The video really is shocking for the level of disrespect Boehner has for his colleagues and his constituents.

Boehner said he's been working for 16 or 17 months trying to push Congress to deal with immigration reform... EEK: Compare the Size of Asteroids to Places on Earth

Nancy Atinkson at UniverseToday:

So, how big is that space rock?

Sometimes when I see data on sizes and distances in relation to stuff out in space, it’s hard to get a frame of reference, since those two categories tend to lean towards the super-big. But now, I’ve got a little help. Space enthusiast and software engineer Ciro Villa has brought some of these references closer to home with these fun graphics that provide accurate size ratios and proportions of objects in space compared to places on Earth.

Villa calls these graphics “hovering celestial objects” and while all of these scenarios are impossible in real life, he’s placed large asteroids and moons next to Earthly locations to provide a good frame of reference for dimensions. Please note that most of these objects have absolutely no chance of colliding with Earth as they are not anywhere near our neighborhood and are not expected to visit it either.

“My representations are is purely for illustrative purposes,” Villa said. “I have maintained the size ratios and proportions as accurately as possible just to demonstrate the dimensions. This is mostly a ‘fun’ exercise.”

For example, I regularly drive through the St. Louis, Missouri metro area, so I have a sense of how big it is. Above, Villa places Asteroid 243 Ida — which has an average diameter of 31.4 km (19.5 miles) — to hover right above St. Louis. 31 km is about the distance from East St. Louis, Illinois to Creve Coeur, Missouri, which are the generally accepted eastern and western borders of the St. Louis metro area. I could probably drive across Ida in about 30 minutes — if it’s not rush hour, that is!

THANKS, DEMOCRATS: Prepare for Electrical Grid Failures

Guest post by Steve Goreham

Americans take electricity for granted. It powers our lights, our computers, our offices, and our industries. But misguided environmental policies are eroding the reliability of our power system.

Last winter, bitterly cold weather placed massive stress on the US electrical system ― and the system almost broke. On January 7 in the midst of the polar vortex, PJM Interconnection, the Regional Transmission Organization serving the heart of America from New Jersey to Illinois, experienced a new all-time peak winter load of almost 142,000 megawatts.

Eight of the top ten of PJM’s all-time winter peaks occurred in January 2014. Heroic efforts by grid operators saved large parts of the nation’s heartland from blackouts during record-cold temperature days. Nicholas Akins, CEO of American Electric Power, stated in Congressional testimony, “This country did not just dodge a bullet ― we dodged a cannon ball.”

Environmental policies established by Congress and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are moving us toward electrical grid failure. The capacity reserve margin for hot or cold weather events is shrinking in many regions. According to Philip Moeller, Commissioner of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, “the experience of this past winter indicates that the power grid is now already at the limit.”

QOTD: "Professor Mark R. Rank of Washington University, co-author of Chasing the American Dream: Understanding What Shapes Our Fortunes, tells a different story [of so-called "Income Inequality"] in a review of his own and others’ research in last Sunday’s New York Times. Far from having the 21st-century equivalent of an Edwardian class system, the United States is characterized by a great deal of variation in income: More than half of all adult Americans will be at or near the poverty line at some point over the course of their lives; 73 percent will also find themselves in the top 20 percent, and 39 percent will make it into the top 5 percent for at least one year. Perhaps most remarkable, 12 percent of Americans will be in the top 1 percent for at least one year of their working lives.

The top 1 percent, as I have noted here before, is such an unstable group that it makes no sense to write, as so many progressives do, about what has happened to its income over the past ten year or twenty years, because it does not contain the same group of people from year to year. Citing tax scholar Robert Carroll’s examination of IRS records, Professor Rank notes that the turnover among the super-rich (the top 400 taxpayers in any given year) is 98 percent over a decade — that is, just 2 percent of that elusive group remain there for ten years in a row. Among those earning more than $1 million a year, most earned that much for only one year of the nine-year period studied, and only 6 percent earned that much for the entire period.

“Ultimately,” Professor Rank writes, “this information casts serious doubt on the notion of a rigid class structure in the United States based upon income. It suggests that the United States is indeed a land of opportunity, that the American dream is still possible — but that it is also a land of widespread poverty.” Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics finds that among the allegedly privileged 1 percent, inherited wealth accounts for only 15 percent of household holdings, a smaller share than it does among middle-class families." --Kevin D. AMORAL DECEPTION: The Democrats' "Voting Rights" Fraud

By Hans von Spakovsky and Peter McGinley

Last Friday, in a speech at Al Sharpton’s National Action Network conference, President Obama proudly announced that the Justice Department had taken on more than 100 voting rights cases since 2009. The problem with that claim is that, since 2009, the Justice Department has taken on only 39 voting rights cases—and as former Voting Section lawyer Christian Adams points out, only 13 were related to protecting minority voting rights. And, with respect to some of the cases in which the department has been involved, it lost spectacularly—such as its false claim that South Carolina’s voter ID law was discriminatory.

Perhaps President Obama misspoke when he overstated the number of voting rights cases by more than 60—or perhaps he was misinformed by his Attorney General, Eric Holder. In fact, the ever-criticized Bush administration had a much better enforcement record with much higher case numbers than the Obama administration, as was outlined in a report released by the Justice Department’s Inspector General in March 2013. President Obama also made no mention of his administration’s unjustified dismissal of the voter intimidation case against the New Black Panther Party—that would, after all, not fit the narrative he is trying to propagate. Regardless, President Obama’s exaggerated claims come as no surprise, especially given the setting of this particular speech.

Al Sharpton’s National Action Network conference in New York City, where Bertha Lewis, the former CEO of ACORN, an organization convicted of numerous voter registration frauds, participated in a panel discussion earlier in the week, was the perfect arena for the President’s inaccurate claims. In her remarks, Lewis declared that there is a “great fear” of what she called the “darker…new majority” that she says wields power in America. She went on to say that supporters of voter ID laws are attempting to implement a “South African apartheid-type thing where the masters of the universe still rule.” She is apparently unaware that Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s former president, supported voter ID laws or that South Africa today has much stricter ID requirements than any state in America.

More than 60,000 software engineers join lawsuit against Google, Apple, Intel and Adobe

Guest post by David North

"Silicon Valley Treats American Workers Like H-1Bs"

That should have been the New York Times headline for today's article about how the major IT employers have been sued "on claims of conspiring to keep their employees down".

Instead, the Times headline predicted the outcome of a class action suit by U.S. workers against Google, Apple, Intel, and Adobe with these words: "In Silicon Valley Thriller, a Settlement May Preclude the Finale".

The story was about a case brought against the big firms by 64,613 (presumably mostly citizen) software engineers for, again to quote the paper, "agreeing not to solicit one another's employees in a scheme developed and enforced by [the late] Steven P. Jobs of Apple."

The software giants, which trumpet the sacredness of markets in other arenas, apparently do not like to deal with the forces of a free labor market, in which there is open bidding for the most talented workers.

This should not be news to immigration watchers, as the firms have long used the H-1B program to keep wages down and to discourage competitive bidding for the services of the usually Indian or Chinese software programmers. But this time those tactics, the plaintiffs say, are being used on American workers.

CLOWARD-PIVEN: 18 Stats That Prove That Government Dependence Has Reached Epidemic Levels

Guest post by Michael Snyder

Did you know that the number of Americans getting benefits from the federal government each month exceeds the number of full-time workers in the private sector by more than 60 million? In other words, the number of people that are taking money out of the system is far greater than the number of people that are putting money into the system. And did you know that nearly 70 percent of all of the money that the federal government spends goes toward entitlement and welfare programs? When it comes to the transfer of wealth, nobody does it on a grander scale than the U.S. government. Most of what the government does involves taking money from some people and giving it to other people. In fact, at this point that is the primary function of the federal government.

Just check out the chart below. It comes from the Heritage Foundation, and it shows that 69 percent of all federal money is spent either on entitlements or on welfare programs…

So when people tell you that the main reason why we are being taxed into oblivion is so that we can “build roads” and provide “public services”, they are lying to you. The main reason why the government taxes you so much is so that they can take your money and give it to someone else.

We have become a nation that is completely and totally addicted to government money. The following are 18 stats that prove that government dependence has reached epidemic levels…

#1 According to an analysis of U.S. government numbers conducted by Terrence P. Jeffrey, there are 86 million full-time private sector workers in the United States paying taxes to support the government, and nearly 148 million Americans that are receiving benefits from the government each month. How long can such a lopsided system possibly continue?

#2 Ten years ago, the number of women in the U.S. that had jobs outnumbered the number of women in the U.S. on food stamps by more than a 2 to 1 margin. But now the number of women in the U.S. on food stamps actually exceeds the number of women that have jobs.

#3 The U.S. government has spent an astounding 3.7 trillion dollars on welfare programs over the past five years.

QOTD: "No aspect of this administration’s performance exemplifies its “bleep you” approach more than Obamacare.

Even in 2008, Team Obama instinctively knew that the American people would never accept the kind of state-dictated healthcare regime it wished to impose. Thus, the collection of guarantees they knew would not and could not be honored were born: “If you like your healthcare plan, doctor, medical provider, and prescription drug regimen, you can keep them, period.” False, false, false, and false — and delivered unilaterally with deductibles and out-of-pocket costs which would cause many workers in the public sector and at large private firms to begin planning their exit strategies. Too bad, so sad, suckers." --Tom Blumer

EXPERTS: U.S. Woefully Unprepared for EMP-based Blackout

Guest post by Josh Peterson

The catastrophic effects of an electromagnetic pulse-caused blackout could be preventable, but experts warn the civilian world is still not ready.

THEY’RE TESTING: The government testing electromagnetic pulses uses a simulator hanging over an airborne command post.
Peter Vincent Pry, executive director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security and director of the U.S. Nuclear Strategy Forum, both congressional advisory boards, said the technology to avoid disaster from electromagnetic pulses exists, and upgrading the nation’s electrical grid is financially viable.

“The problem is not the technology,” Pry said. “We know how to protect against it. It’s not the money, it doesn’t cost that much. The problem is the politics. It always seems to be the politics that gets in the way.”

He said the more officials plan, the lower the estimated cost gets.

“If you do a smart plan — the Congressional EMP Commission estimated that you could protect the whole country for about $2 billion,” Pry told Watchdog.org. “That’s what we give away in foreign aid to Pakistan every year.”

In the first few minutes of an EMP, nearly half a million people would die. That’s the worst-case scenario that author William R. Forstchen estimated in 2011 would be the result of an EMP on the electric grid — whether by an act of God, or a nuclear missile detonating in Earth’s upper atmosphere.
