GREAT NEWS: Obama Administration Says We're Not at War With ISIL!

Denial: it's not just a river in Egypt. Here's the feckless nincompoop and national security "adviser" Ben Rhodes writing at the White House website.

7. Is ISIL more dangerous than al-Qaeda right now?

While both are terrorist forces, they have different ambitions. Al-Qaeda’s principal ambition is to launch attacks against the west and U.S. homeland. That’s the direct threat that we have taken direct action against for many years. Right now, ISIL’s primary focus is consolidating territory in the Middle East region to establish their own Islamic State. So they’re different organizations with different objectives.

8. Are we at war with ISIL? Will we be sending troops back to Iraq?

No. There is no U.S. military solution to the larger situation in Iraq. The United States’ chief goals are to protect our personnel and facilities, and to prevent a potential act of genocide. That is the scope of these operations. As the President said, we will support Iraqis as they take the fight to these terrorists, but no American combat troops will be returning to fight in Iraq.

Both answers are flatly untrue. ISIL has stated unequivocally that it is coming for Americans in America.

As for the second assertion, gee, Ben, while the White House may not be at war with ISIL, I can assure you that ISIL is at war with us.

Yes, that's the White House.

HUGE DEMOCRAT DONOR AND AMBULANCE-CHASER PERMANENTLY DISBARRED: Ordered to Pay $42 Million in Restitution

The Democrats' massive, economy-destroying trial lawyer constituency is down one.

Onetime superlawyer and heavy Democratic Party contributor Stanley Chesley has been ordered to pay $42 million for his role in a scandal over fen-phen litigation that already cost him his law licenses in Ohio and Kentucky.

The husband of a federal judge and a $50,000 contributor to President Obama’s 2009 Inaugural ball, Chesley was last year found guilty of violating multiple ethics rules in Kentucky as part of a scheme in which lawyers took half the money they won for clients in lawsuits over the diet drug despite contracts that specified much lower fees.

The summary judgment order by Boone County Judge James R. Schrand represents an ironic turn for a plaintiff lawyer like Chesley, who earned the nickname “master of disaster” for his role in lawsuits over airplane crashes and other tragedies. Schrand applied the doctrine of joint and several liability, typically used by plaintiff lawyers to tap the deepest pockets in a case, to hold Chesley liable for the entire $42 million awarded to 382 former clients in a 2007 judgement. Two other lawyers went to jail over the scandal and the judge who awarded the excessive fees to Chesley and his co-counsel — and was rewarded with a post-retirement job at a foundation they set up with some of the proceeds — was disbarred.

Forbes reports that Chesley basically invented the mass tort approach to class-actions using the concept of "enterprise liability" (e.g., blaming the entire aluminum electrical wire industry for a devastating nightclub fire).

...The Kentucky Supreme Court today permanently disbarred lawyer Stanley Chesley, the prominent tort lawyer and Democratic Party kingmaker who got entangled in a scandal over fen-phen litigation that sent two other lawyers to jail and ended the legal career of the judge who approved the settlement.

The disbarment is a professional fiasco for Chesley, who rose to prominence as a mass-tort litigator and is married to U.S. District Judge Susan Diott. Under a reciprocal agreement with Kentucky, he might also lose his license to practice law in Ohio.

Chesley was found guilty of accepting $20 million in fees, compared with $46 million that was paid to the actual plaintiffs in the cases, and helping other lawyers cover up their excessive fees in the case. Chesley argued he didn’t really represent the 431 clients in the case because he was brought in merely to negotiate a settlement with fen-phen producer American Home Products.

Chesley was a huge Clinton fundraiser and would have been one of Hillary's favorite bundlers, we would assume. "Would have" being the operative phrase.

QOTD: "Iraq is unraveling fast. If reports of fighting between Maliki’s forces and troops loyal to President Masoum turn out to be correct, it means that the factional fighting that has torn apart the provinces has now spread to the capital—even as ISIS waits outside, licking its chops.

The fact that President Obama thought that the day of an Iraqi coup was a good time to hang on the Vineyard and get on the links is bad news. Either the President blew off warnings from his advisors, or the intel community got blindsided again. Both possibilities reflect badly on the management of the nation’s affairs.

The unraveling of Iraq under the grimmest of circumstances is a major policy challenge for this president and for the United States as a whole. There’s nothing wrong with a president wanting some down time with the kids, but President Obama needs to be and be seen to be taking control of events. Going on vacation as the tanks roll in Baghdad and as Americans fly back into combat over Iraq is not where a leader needs to be." --Walter Russell Mead

PLEASE, PRESIDENT JARRETT: Obliterate the barbarians who would "raise the flag of Allah in the White House"

By Investor's Business Daily

War On Terror: Having ignored Iraqi pleas for air strikes in ISIL's infancy, when the terrorists could have been decimated, the administration ignores the Kurdish peshmerga plea for the same American weapons that ISIL has.

Watching the modest airstrikes on ISIL forces, we are reminded of Secretary of State John Kerry's promise that any military action in Syria would be "unbelievably small." As it turned out, it was also nonexistent, and the carnage continues in the country where ISIL formed and trained under our watchful and indifferent eyes.

The targeted airstrikes ordered by President Obama last week near the Kurdish city of Erbil in northern Iraq, where we have a consulate, as ISIL forces lay siege to thousands of hungry Yazidi and Christian refugees in the mountains of northern Iraq, are welcome.

But they fall far short of what can be or could have been done if we really wanted to stop ISIL, considered by many a greater long-term threat than al-Qaida.

"The situation near Erbil was becoming more dire than anyone expected. We didn't want another Benghazi," an administration official told the New York Times. The reference was to the deaths of four Americans in the 2012 terrorist attack on our mission in Libya, where another gathering terrorist storm was ignored and a rescue or relief attempt was never made in time.

On Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham warned that ISIL threatens not just Iraqis, but also Americans here. Obama's strikes are insufficient to turn back ISIL and are meant just "to avoid a bad news story on his watch."

Graham envisions "an American city in flames" someday if the ISIL caliphate established in parts of Syria and northern Iraq becomes a new haven for global terrorism. Certainly there's already a price being paid for our past indifference to the growing ISIL threat.

Every Day That This Regime is in Power, the Importance of the Second Amendment Becomes Ever More Clear

When you sow racial strife -- as this administration does seemingly every day -- you reap racial strife.

Exhibit 5,034:

Last night several businesses in Ferguson, Dellwood and North County were looted and torched following the death of 18 year-old Michael Brown...

A QuickTrip was burnt to the ground last night after it was looted in Ferguson... Several businesses were vandalized and looted during the rioting.

But not this one…...

Mike Gutierrez (left) and Adam Weinstein (third from left) brought guns to guard their store during the riots in Ferguson last night.

Remember when the idiot Daniel Schorr, the putz from National Government Radio, wrote the following?

The post-racial era, as embodied by Obama, is the era where civil rights veterans of the past century are consigned to history and Americans begin to make race-free judgments on who should lead them.

Post-racial began to come into vogue after Obama won the Iowa caucuses and faired well in the New Hampshire primary.

The Economist called it a post-racial triumph and wrote that Obama seemed to embody the hope that America could transcends its divisions.

What a dunce. What a clown. What a complete nincompoop. It's a freaking travesty that a single penny of our hard-earned tax dollars goes to support such a schmuck.

QOTD: "The tragedy of where we are — and this is not about President Obama. This is about President Bush. It’s about President Clinton. It’s about where the country has been now about radical Islamism probably for — probably since 1979 when the Iranians seized the American embassy. Nobody wants to tell the truth.

The truth is this is a radical Islamist group. They say openly if you don’t convert, we’ll kill you. It turns out they actually mean it. There’s no complexity. They’re exactly like Hamas. Hamas says openly we’re going to kill every Jew; that’s a direct quote from two weeks. We will kill every Jew. The difference is that is ISIS gaining power and they’re doing exactly what they said they would do.

And I think this, if you go from Boko Haram in Nigeria all the way across region, what you see is a radical Islamist force. Nobody in the American State Department, nobody in the White House, not just Obama, but for three or four administrations, we have not had the courage to confront how bad this is, and it’s getting worse.

By the way, yesterday there were — there were ISIS forces in Lebanon occupying a town in the middle of a fight with the Lebanese army in northern Lebanon. They’re in Syria. They are recruiting people in Europe and the United States. They see themselves as a worldwide fight, and so the president says we’re going to stop them from getting to Erbil. Well, what does that accomplish?" --Newt Gingrich

CNN: Nobel Peace Prize Winner Obama "Powerless" to Deal With the World Chaos His Policies Have Sown

CNN -- yep, it's still in business -- says that Obama's multiple policy failures on every front are not his fault.

As we head closer to the November elections it’s clear that Obama’s continued massive foreign policy implosion is already having a deleterious effect on Democrat’s hopes, and unless there’s a sudden blossoming of Middle East peace, it will probably increase going forward...
This morning on CNN's Inside Politics, Politico's Manu Raju said that the president seems "powerless" to deal with the chaos in the world, which is "putting the Senate at risk" for the Democrats.

Gee, who could have predicted that a back-bencher state senator -- weaned on the philosophies of Marx and Alinsky and with literally zero executive experience -- would be an utter and complete disaster?

Oh, wait: several of us did, back in the summer of 2008.

REVEALED: The Democrat Party's Secret Playbook for Stealing Elections

By James Simpson

Elections matter. President Obama proves it every day as he willfully seeks to wreck our nation. But this is very evident elsewhere, too. The 2010 elections reversed decades of Democrat majority control in state houses. Since then, GOP governors and legislatures all over the country have been restoring sanity to state government. Most Americans don’t know this of course, because the media won’t tell you.

One good example is North Carolina. Republicans took over the North Carolina legislature in 2010, and Charlotte’s popular Republican mayor, Pat McCrory, won the governor’s mansion in 2012. This gave the GOP full control of the state government for the first time since 1898. In 2013 Governor McCrory signed a new voter ID law, and a fairly strong Republican majority, willing to take political risks, took over leadership of the State Board of Elections (SBOE). The Democrats are having fits.

An interesting email received this week offers a window into how Democrats used to rig the voter game.

A History of Voter Fraud

Vote fraud has been a long-standing tradition in Democrat-controlled North Carolina. For example, in 2012 the Democrat-controlled NC State Board of Elections (SBOE) openly, blatantly violated state election law by partnering with the Obama administration in offering illegal online voter registration. The corrupt administration of Democratic Governor Beverly Purdue—who declined to seek a second term rather than face a certain punishing defeat by McCrory in 2012—did nothing.

Participating in Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s “Crosscheck” [PDF] program, North Carolina’s new GOP-led SBOE matched 765 voters registered in both NC and another state with the exact name, DOB and last four digits of SSN of those who voted in both states in the 2012 election. They found a total of 35,750 matching with the exact name and DOB who voted in two states in 2012 (many states don’t provide SSN information). They also found 13,416 deceased voters on the voter rolls, some of whom have come back from the dead to vote.

NYT: Fear of "Another Benghazi" Political Debacle, Not Genocide, Drove Obama to Call For ISIS Airstrikes

The New York Times reports that it was not genocide in Iraq, it was not a humanitarian catastrophe, it was not to protect human lives that forced Obama's hand in ordering airstrikes against ISIS; it was all about politics.

On Wednesday evening, moments after finishing a summit meeting with African leaders at the State Department, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff delivered a stark message to President Obama as they rode back to the White House in Mr. Obama’s limousine.

The Kurdish capital, Erbil, once an island of pro-American tranquillity, was in the path of rampaging Sunni militants, the chairman, Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, told the president. And to the west, the militants had trapped thousands of members of Iraqi minority groups on a barren mountaintop, with dwindling supplies, raising concerns about a potential genocide.

With American diplomats and business people in Erbil suddenly at risk, at the American Consulate and elsewhere, Mr. Obama began a series of intensive deliberations that resulted, only a day later, in his authorizing airstrikes on the militants, as well as humanitarian airdrops of food and water to the besieged Iraqis.

Looming over that discussion, and the decision to return the United States to a war Mr. Obama had built his political career disparaging, was the specter of an earlier tragedy: the September 2012 attack on the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, which killed four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, and has become a potent symbol of weakness for critics of the president...

...As the tension mounted in Washington, a parallel drama was playing out in Erbil. Kurdish forces who had been fighting the militants in three nearby Christian villages abruptly fell back toward the gates of the city, fanning fears that the city might soon fall. By Thursday morning, people were thronging the airport, desperate for flights out of town.

“The situation near Erbil was becoming more dire than anyone expected,” said a senior administration official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe the White House’s internal deliberations. “We didn’t want another Benghazi.”

I'd encourage you read the entire article to get a sense of how feckless, incompetent and ideologically twisted this administration is.

As usual, it would appear that Michelle and co-President Valerie Jarrett helped make the decision to act.

Laced throughout the story is the party line among Democrats, which is the following sandwich of sheer, unvarnished idiocy:

QOTD: "This week the RNC wouldn’t even hear resolutions about the censuring of Henry Barbour for those racist ads that his PAC paid for. No, the Republican Party is not conservative, and it wants nothing to do with the tea party. And if there are huge losses in November, as I and others have warned about, because of the reckless indecent and immoral ways in which the current corporatist leadership deals with half of their constituency, no one will be able to blame conservatives or the tea party.

There can be no unity when the party doesn’t wish to build coalitions with, or at least appease their base. The Party has to change tactics and course.

Conservatives are angry, yes, but also sad, because we see the potential in every human being, being laid to waste by the policies of the progressive, totalitarian left. We are also angry and sad about a party with such potential, being abused by the unprincipled men eager to swim in the cash generated by fleecing America.

Conservatives know that there are dark days ahead for the country and the world while America is weakened by such men. Some may vote for the lesser of two evils and some won’t, but unity with a party that crosses the line of how they treat their own base, giving preferential treatment to who is supposedly their enemy, just ain’t gonna happen." --Jen Kuznicki

CHRIS CHRISTIE: Enemy of the Second Amendment

The Michelin Man is attempting to resurrect his presidential ambitions after "Bridgegate."

The portly purveyor of populist pablum ("We just have to win") has a troubling record when it comes to fighting Islamofascism, Common Core, the Global Warming Climate Change Scam, Amnesty for illegal aliens, and Obamacare.

But it is Christie's hatred for the Second Amendment that is most disturbing. Consider this story: "Single Mom with Concealed Carry Permit Faces up to 11.5 Years for 'Honest Mistake' of Bringing Gun into NJ":

Philadelphia single mom Shaneen Allen got a concealed carry permit (CCW) and handgun after being the victim of two separate robberies in the past year. After an "honest mistake" in which she drove into New Jersey with the gun in her car, she also received a court date and faces up to 11.5 years in prison for violating NJ gun and ammunition laws.

Fox News reports that Allen was pulled over on October 1 for an "unsafe lane change" after entering NJ and told the officer she had a CCW and a .380 handgun in the vehicle. The handgun was "loaded with hollow-point bullets."

Allen was charged with "unlawful possession of the weapon and possession of hollow-point bullets." She had only owned the gun for one week prior to her arrest and has no criminal record.

Mediaite.com reports that when Allen appeared in court on August 5 she learned that "she faces a maximum of 11.5 years in prison—ten for the [weapon] possession, 18 months for the bullets." Moreover, the judge in the case "refused Allen the ability to enter into a 'pretrial intervention' program to avoid jail time."

The prosecution offered Allen a "five year... plea bargain with no option for parole for 3.5 years."

Allen is the single mother of two young sons.

Chris Christie isn't a conservative. He isn't electable. He's a jerk.

HOLY SHNIKEYS: ESPN Contributes $6 to the Average Cable Bill, Whether You Watch it or Not

In an era of consumer choice and pricing transparency, cable companies and telcos offer neither. You want to pick your own channels? F*** you. You want to create your own bundles of services? F*** you.

The cable companies and telcos are the last vestiges of Ma Bell, the government-sponsored monopoly; and they are clinging to their monopolistic power by their fingernails. They take massive amounts of cash and slather it over K Street like butter on Michael Moore's waffles. Which is why they routinely receive the worst customer service ratings imaginable.

Consider Exhibit 1,029:

TV programming is a main driver of cost in your cable bill—and the price for both is going up.

...Cable and satellite providers such as Comcast, Time Warner Cable or DirecTV pay networks like ESPN and TNT a certain amount per customer for programming each month.

The wholesale cost per network is expected to increase 36% by 2018 according to media-research firm SNL Kagan estimates. Cable providers currently pay a total of $28.32 for a few dozen channels, depending on the provider and the cable package, with ESPN taking over $6 of that. Meanwhile median price paid for each channel a subscriber gets is 14 cents. ESPN is estimated to cost $8.37 per month in 2018, an increase of 39%... Despite the rise in programming costs, which cut into its cable TV margins, cable companies continue to generate healthy profits by bundling TV with phone and broadband, a high-margin product. Cable companies also add in ancillary fees on bills like equipment charges.

Interestingly enough, this issue relates directly to net neutrality. Net neutrality isn't a conservative or progressive issue: it's a liberty issue. Should a few monopolies control your access to content or not? Net neutrality says they shouldn't be able to discriminate, period.

If we had actual competition in Internet or cable access, net neutrality's opponents would have a point. But the corporatist oligarchy -- a handful of cable- and telco companies -- spends enormous amounts of money and influence assiduously avoiding competition.

In 2006, Daniel Berninger wrote one of the best summaries of net neutrality I've read:

ISIS Threatens To Kill Creator of Muslim Superhero Comic Series...

Relayed by Weasel Zippers, an important story from Digital Spy:

Muslim comic creator of The 99 threatened by ISIS

Which is ironic because the creator of The 99 wanted to show the “message of tolerance and peace” in Islam...

The Muslim creator of The 99 comic series has been threatened with death by ISIS.

The jihadist group known by the full name of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant have called for the murder of Nayef Al-Mutawa, who they accuse of mocking Allah.

“Who can kill Nayef Al-Mutawa who makes fun of Allah’s names?” wrote ISIS on Twitter, according to Kuwait Times.

“Whoever finds him, kill him, and he will be rewarded.” […]

The 99 centres around a group of superheroes, each of whom embodies one of the 99 attributes of Allah.

Al-Mutawa created the series with the explicit purpose of celebrating the “messages of tolerance and peace” in Islam.

Which reminds me: I keep checking CAIR's Twitter feed to see if they've denounced the genocide of non-Muslims by the barbaric throwbacks called ISIL. Here's what I've found.

Those are crickets.

PARDON MY CHORTLING: California's Cap-and-Trade Scam to Spike Gas Prices as Much as $.70 a Gallon

Thanks to their religion of global warming, Democrat politicians will cause gas prices in California to rise as much as $0.70 a gallon next year.

...Beginning in January, fuel suppliers in California will have to comply with the Cap and Trade program. The 2006 initiative seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the state. And it seems generally expected that the coming change will lead to higher gasoline prices.

Projected increases range from 10 cents to 69 cents a gallon. In San Diego County, where the average price on Friday of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline was $3.894, that would be a significant jump into the $4 or more territory...

...Some politicians are worried about possible spikes in gas prices. Sixteen Assembly Democrats have sent a letter to Gov. Jerry Brown’s administration asking for a delay in the program, and a bill has been introduced that would postpone the change.

Political consultant Mike Madrid said politicians have good reason to be concerned. Voters would likely blame incumbents if gas prices go up, Madrid said.

“If gas prices were to go up 15 cents, you would start to see some political shake out. If it goes up 25, 30, 40 cents? You would see an earthquake," he said.

Are Democrats concerned about their insane policies, their impact on energy prices, the increased flight risk of businesses and productive individuals, and the ever-diminishing prospects of a once-great state?

No, of course not. They're worried about themselves -- their reelection chances.

QOTD: "Argentina’s central planners have pursued a slew of defunct monetary policies of the Keynesian, Monetarist and Mercantilist variety. Repeated default is the fruit of that labor.

Today, spendthrift governments who betray the trust of their creditors are the new normal. Over-indebtedness followed by default is becoming commonplace. It has been creeping up in the US, from Detroit to Jefferson County, and soon perhaps the entire Commonwealth of Puerto Rico (a US territory).

In a free world, no one in their right mind would give their hard-earned capital to Western governments. Sadly, we do not live in a free world. There is not a free market for money or credit in Argentina or the US. Guided by unfair laws and insidious regulations, people continue to entrust their wealth to institutions that are actively betraying them – promising to pay out in worthless, devalued paper." --Dickson Buchanan

COLOR ME SHOCKED: Chevy Volt Resale Values Plummet as Lease Returns Hit Market

By Mark Modica

It has been two years since General Motors admitted that there was little demand for the Chevy Volt (as reported here) due to there being "no plug-in market." Their answer was to "create market" to drive sales for the politically popular but economically-nonviable Volt. GM manipulated sales for the Volt through the use of subsidized leases at a time when President Obama's favorite, green wonder-car was being criticized for low sales as it failed to live up to the early hype.

GM was able to use taxpayer money in the form of electric vehicle tax credits to help drive down costs to lessees. Taxpayers chipped in $7,500 for each Chevy Volt placed on the road for terms as low as two years. The taxpayer subsidies, along with inflated residual values and other GM incentives, provided for low monthly lease payments and led to a full two-thirds of all Volt "sales" being attributed to leases. That's about three times the lease rate for the overall industry.

So, what happens to resale values of vehicles with little mass appeal that are forced upon the public with subsidies and manipulated leases? The result was predictable; those leased vehicles are now being returned and resale values are plunging. Having won many awards in the past, the Chevy Volt is now the front-runner to be the recipient of the highest depreciating vehicle award.

A search on the Manheim auction site, a primary indicator of vehicle wholesale value, shows that 81 Chevy Volts, model year 2012, were sold at auction for the week ending August 2nd. The average price was $14,871 for vehicles that are only two or three years old, primarily coming off of the manipulated leases. That equates to an absurd loss of values for Chevy Volts of about 65% in only two or three years.

15 Photos of the Barbaric Treatment of Iraqi Christians You'll Never See in Legacy Media

Caution: Extremely graphic photos follow, which were provided by Catholic.org. Please use discretion in viewing the photos that follow the warning box.

The Islamic State has warned Christians, possibly for the last time, saying "there is nothing to give them but the sword." Across Northern Iraq, Christians are huddled in refugee camps, trapped in the desert, or trapped in their homes, waiting for death.

A week ago, Christians were warned to either leave the city of Mosul and other areas under Islamic State control, or they would have to pay a tax or be put to death. Today, nobody has heard from those Christians and nobody knows what is happening to them.

Are they being quietly "put to the sword" as this militant strain of Islam asks they be?

The Human Rights Watch reported on July 14 that homes in Mosul were painted with red letters to indicate Christian homes. Other homes of Shiite Muslims were also adorned...

THE UGLY TRUTH: The United Nations Promotes War Crimes

by Anne Bayefsky

As the terrorist organization Hamas breaks yet another ceasefire, it operates with the firm belief that it will be protected on the international stage. That’s because the modern United Nations has become an instrument of war, just seven decades after it was founded “to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.”

It is time to face an ugly truth: The U.N. encourages terrorism. U.N. enablers on the ground in Gaza and U.N. broadcasters in the diplomatic comfort zones of Geneva and New York are partners in incitement to genocide against Israel, the Jewish state.

Think back to Rwanda, where a radio station broadcast that Tutsis were “cockroaches.” The message received was that killing was justified, that Tutsis deserved what they got. Such broadcasts were criminal.

It is time to face an ugly truth: The U.N. encourages terrorism. U.N. enablers on the ground in Gaza and U.N. broadcasters in the diplomatic comfort zones of Geneva and New York are partners in incitement to genocide against Israel, the Jewish state.

The demonization of Israelis by the United Nations is similarly venomous, regardless of the diplomatic facade.

On July 30, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon accused Israel of “attacking sleeping children.” On July 23, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay told the U.N. Human Rights Council that Israel exhibited “disregard for…the right to life.” She alleged that it "was shockingly evident for all to see in the apparent targeting of…children playing.” On July 14, U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl told the press that Israeli crimes included “attacks against...civilians.”

Alleging that Israelis are baby-killers is not some throwaway line. It’s incitement.

QOTD: "There had always been a degree of Jew-hatred in Europe, for hundreds of years, mostly at a low-level simmer - denial of full property rights, etc. But it only turned genocidal in the Third Reich. Just to walk that back very calmly to the anniversary we mark this week, the Great War destroyed the German Empire, the most cultured society on the Continent and the one in which Jews were most assimilated, and with a high degree of inter-marriage. What followed the German Empire was the Weimar Republic - ie, going to the grocer's with a wheelbarrow full of worthless marks. By 1930, millions of Germans were in the market for a scapegoat. Who to blame for the ruination of a great nation? "International bankers"? We all know who that means...

Half the country's Jews wound up leaving for Britain, Mandatory Palestine and America before the Second World War began, and that suited Germans just fine: All they wanted was for Jews to be ...elsewhere, just as today Palestine's supporters in the west increasingly want Jews to be ...elsewhere. Not many people circa 1933 thought they were signing on for enforced population displacement, trains to the east, concentration camps, gas ovens... The idea of a "final solution" was in that sense unimaginable.

But our generation doesn't have that excuse. Today's Jew-hate is worse than 1930s Jew-hate precisely because, unlike 80 years ago, it's déjà vu all over again. We can't plead ignorance." --Mark Steyn
