NO FREE WILL: Public Employees in 23 States Forced to Pay Union Bosses Whether They Like it or Not

By Jason Hart

Taxpayer money goes to mandatory labor union “fair share” or “agency” fees in Washington, D.C,. and 23 states.

Public employees can be forced to pay a labor union as a condition of employment in the states highlighted on the map below.

Nearly half of all U.S. states allow public-sector union contracts to require mandatory dues as a condition of employment, based on a review of U.S. Department of Labor records, state labor laws and a National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation study from 2012.

Many of these states and local governments automatically deduct union fees from public employees’ pay, funneling taxpayer money directly to labor bosses.

Words of Wisdom from the Most Brilliant President Ever...

...Also known as the man who gets everything wrong.

POTUS visted the United Nations today, reiterating his commitment to diversity and tolerance. His words were sheer, unmitigated genius:

...the United States will never be at war with Islam. Islam preaches peace. Muslims the world over seek only to live with dignity and a sense of justice.

And when it comes to America and Islam, there is no ‘us and them,’ there is only us because millions of Muslim Americans are part of the fabric of our country.

And who is to blame for all of the problems in the Middle East?

Leadership will ... be necessary to address the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis. As bleak as the landscape appears, America will never give up the pursuit of peace. The situation in Iraq, Syria and Libya should cure anyone of the illusion that this conflict is the main source of problems in the region; for far too long, it has been used in part as a way to distract people from problems at home. And the violence engulfing the region today has made too many Israelis ready to abandon the hard work of peace. But let’s be clear: the status quo in the West Bank and Gaza is not sustainable. We cannot afford to turn away from this effort – not when rockets are fired at innocent Israelis, or the lives of so many Palestinian children are taken from us in Gaza. So long as I am President, we will stand up for the principle that Israelis, Palestinians, the region, and the world will be more just with two states living side by side, in peace and security.

All of the Christians and Jews living openly in Saudi Arabia could not be reached for comment at press time.

QOTD: "Lo and behold, it seems that the media itself has a domestic violence problem. Ten cases discovered at first Google. Which is twice as many, to be specific, as the five cases that have had the media in such a frenzy over domestic violence in the National Football League. Where are these ten cases to be found? Two cases at ESPN, with the rest spread out over affiliates of ABC, CBS, NBC and, yes, the New York Times. And there are others for television stations not affiliated with the major networks. With all this massive focus on what the Wall Street Journal calls ‘moral preening’ in the media about domestic violence in the NFL — isn’t it a tad curious that the same ‘moral preening’ is absent, that the camera never swings around to the media itself?" --Jeffrey Lord

Please Don't Feed the Eco-Intellectuals

By Alan Caruba

I confess I have always been wary of intellectuals. They love arcane theories that often have little to do with real life and this is particularly true of eco-intellectuals who have embraced a panoply of lies and claims about the “environment”, “fossil fuels”, “sustainability”, and other notions that permit them to bloviate without once addressing reality.

This has been a week of eco-propaganda on a global scale. On Sunday there were “Climate Marches.” On Tuesday there will be a UN “Climate Summit”, and there will likely be an avalanche of nonsense in the media intended to make us believe we have control, influence, or impact on the climate when it is obvious to the rest of us that we—the human race—have none.

In the past nearly two decades we have all been experiencing not a warning, but a cooling of planet Earth. It has nothing to do with us and everything to do with the Sun that has been in a low cycle of radiation—less heat!

A friend alerted me to an article in the August 22nd edition of the New Republic, a famously liberal magazine. “Global Warming Is Just One of Many Environmental Threats That Demand Our Attention” is the title of Amartya Sen’s article. He is a Nobel laureate in economics, a winner of the National Humanities Medal, an author, and teaches at Harvard University.

There were two immediate red flags that caught my attention. First was that he is an economist and the second was that he was writing about “global warming” as of it was happening.

In early September I had written about another economist who had an opinion published in The Wall Street Journal. It was ludicrous in terms of his complete lack of even the most basic science he was either addressing or ignoring as he too warned of horrid environmental portents to come. Economists should stick to economics.

If you suffer from insomnia or have a fondness for reading sentences filled with words rarely used in common communication, you will find that Sen’s article will either put you to sleep or, more likely, give you a migraine headache. The article is an insufferable platform for him to demonstrate his Nobel certified intellectual brilliance, while possessing very little understanding of science or what we ordinary people call common sense.

PHOTO: Guess what happens to a Syrian fighter jet about three seconds after it crosses into Israeli airspace?

Can you say, "instant fireball"?

Israel said that the jet - identified as a Russian-made Sukhoi Su-24 - had crossed the battle lines of Syria's civil war and flew over its Golan Heights territory, perhaps by accident.

The incident coincided with but did not appear to be directly related to air strikes the United States and Gulf Arab allies mounted on Islamic State strongholds in Syria.

But it presented another challenge to Israel's oft-stateddesire to stay on the sidelines of a conflict on its northerndoorstep, in which al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front rebels took overa border crossing on the Golan last month.

The Israeli military said its U.S.-made Patriot missile air defence system shot down a Syrian Russian-built Sukhoi fighter plane that had 'infiltrated Israeli airspace' over the territory, captured by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war.

It was the first time in three decades that Israel had downed a Syrian warplane.

It's another historic Obama first!

Iran, Lies and Videotape

By Ken Timmerman

Aren’t you tired of the lies and obfuscations rolling off the lips of our most senior government leaders?

Last Friday, at a speech in Pensacola, Florida, for which he was paid the princely sum of $22,000, former CIA Acting Director Mike Morell pulled a Sergeant Schultz, saying he "knows nothing" about Iranians in Benghazi.

The question about the Iranian presence in Benghazi was written ahead of time and deliberately crafted by former U.S. intelligence officers to give him the opportunity to tell the truth without divulging classified matters.

Morell could have made a general comment to the effect that the U.S. has been concerned for years with the growing Iranian intelligence presence in many parts of the world. He might have mentioned Iran’s reckless eagerness to kill Americans, whether in Afghanistan, Iraq, or Washington, DC, where the top leadership of the Revolutionary Guards got caught by the Department of Justice sending a flunky to blow up the Saudi ambassador at a bustling restaurant...

Here was the question, as read out by the moderator to Morell:

“Was the CIA aware of the Iranian and Hezbollah involvement in Benghazi during the uprising against Qaddafi, and later, in the lead-up to the attacks on Sept 11-12, 2012? Was the CIA aware of the arrival on July 31, 2012 of a 7-man team of so-called Iranian Red Crescent workers in Benghazi?”

There were many ways Morell could have answered that question truthfully, even artfully, without getting into classified matters or jeopardizing the ongoing (and foolish) nuclear talks with Iran.

Instead, he chose a flat-out lie.

What Obama Doesn't Know Could Fill a Book

The Wall Street Journal's Bret Stephens lays down #44's litany of failure, noting that all presidents make mistakes, but what distinguishes Obama is "his ideological rigidity and fathomless ignorance."

...even at an elementary level, Mr. Obama often doesn't know what he's talking about. It isn't so much his analysis of global events that's wrong, though it is. The deeper problem is the foundation of knowledge on which that analysis is built.

You mean an inexperienced community agitator raised by Marxists doesn't have a realistic worldview? The hell you say!

In situation after situation, Obama has made the wrong call -- often obviously and catastrophically wrong -- each of which holds the potential for dire consequences around the globe.

QOTD: "[Lois] Lerner tears up describing how her legal team has become friends, willing to listen to her vent.

Then, in a flash, she’s defiant again, saying she’s “not going to let them ruin my life.”

They refuse to move from their home. And when Lerner leaves the house, she doesn’t try to hide by wearing sunglasses or a headscarf, though “someone told me maybe I should get a blond wig.”

Of course, that also means she can’t escape public humiliation when she is recognized. She’s been berated by strangers and told she is “going to be put away in the deepest, darkest dungeon, and they were going to lock me up and throw away the key.”

Maybe someday she’ll write a book. Maybe not. She doesn’t know when, or if, she’ll tell the full story of what happened, though she assures POLITICO that “you don’t hear half of what happened because they are picking and choosing.”

Asked what she’d say if she could tell the world anything, she reiterated her innocence. Then, as she starts to get up to walk away from the interview, she added: “And, oh, one more thing: I’m doing just fine.”" --Rachel Bade, Politico

Even as the Stock Market Soars to Record Highs, the Ultra-Wealthy Swarm to Buy Physical Gold

By Michael Snyder

Did you know that the number of gold bars being purchased by ultra-wealthy individuals has increased by 243 percent so far this year? If stocks are just going to keep soaring, why are they doing this? On Thursday, the Dow Jones industrial average and the S&P 500 both closed at record highs once again. It is a party that never seems to end, and there are a lot of really happy people on Wall Street these days. But those that are discerning realize that we witnessed the exact same kind of bubble behavior during the dotcom boom and during the run up to the last financial crash in 2007. The irrational exuberance that we are witnessing right now cannot go on forever. And the bigger that this bubble gets, the more painful that it is going to be when it finally bursts. Those that get out at the peaks of the market are the ones that usually end up making lots of money. Those that ride stocks all the way up and all the way down are the ones that usually end up getting totally wiped out.

To get an idea of how irrational the markets have become, all one has to do is to look at Twitter.

Would you value "a horribly mismanaged company" that is less than 10 years old and that has never made a yearly profit at 31 billion dollars?

Well, that is precisely how much the financial markets say that Twitter is worth at this moment.

Even though Twitter will probably never be much more popular than it is right now, it continues to bleed money profusely. On a GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) basis, Twitter lost an astounding 145 million dollars during the second quarter of 2014...

Intruder Alert

Spotted at the always entertaining Hopenchange Cartoons.

The Secret Service is in some not-too-secret trouble following an incident Friday in which a man with a knife climbed over the White House fence, ran 70 yards across the lawn, and then entered the White House through an unlocked front door.

Fortunately, Joe Biden wasn't in the building because he very well could have followed his own advice and fired a shotgun through the door.

THE WAR ON POVERTY: 50 Consecutive Years of Failure

Robert Rector, writing in The Washington Times, writes the epitaph of the catastrophic disaster -- for all involved -- known as "The War on Poverty."

This year marks the 50th anniversary of President Lyndon Johnson’s launch of the War on Poverty. In January 1964, Johnson declared “unconditional war on poverty in America.” Since then, the taxpayers have spent $22 trillion on Johnson’s war. Adjusted for inflation, that’s three times the cost of all military wars since the American Revolution.

Last year, government spent $943 billion providing cash, food, housing and medical care to poor and low-income Americans. (That figure doesn’t include Social Security or Medicare.) More than 100 million people, or one third of Americans, received some type of welfare aid, at an average cost of $9,000 per recipient. If converted into cash, this spending was five times what was needed to eliminate all poverty in the United States.

By the government's own measures, the drop in the percentage of individuals qualifying as poor ended once the "War" truly got underway.

EXCLUSIVE: Luis Gutierrez, Obama’s Poster Boy for Amnesty, and His Unique Family "Fundraising" Business

By Lee Cary

Former Chicago Alderman, and now 11-term Congressman Luis V. Gutierrez (D. 4th Dist. IL) is described by one news outlet as a “59-year-old Illinois congressman [who] stands 5 feet 6 inches tall, which is only one reason he got his nickname, “El Gallito” — the little fighting rooster.”

As immigration chairman for the House Hispanic caucus, Gutierrez is fighting hard for a Presidential Executive Order granting amnesty to as many as 5 million illegal immigrants.

He says, ““When I see those children, I see my own daughter. I can’t help but see that. I see my nieces and nephews."

Gutierrez’s reputation in Chicagoland’s politics is not untarnished.  There’s that sweetheart deal he got from Tony Rezko in the purchase of a condo for his daughter.  There’s the $500,000 plus he paid in taxpayer money over 10 years to a Chicago lobbyist to advise his congressional staff.  And, the 2004 allegation that Gutierrez lobbied Mayor Daley for a residential development owned by a man who loaned Luis $200,000.   The developer was later federally indicted concerning the same development.

But forget all that – that’s all in the past.

Today, Gutierrez is firmly ensconced in one of the most gerrymandered congressional districts in America.  You need a GPS to find its boundaries.

These days, the 4th Illinois District Congressman is making political fund-raising a family business.

REMINDER: Mary Landrieu, Claire McCaskill, and 44 other Democrats Voted to Cede Your Gun Rights to the U.N.

Senate Amendment 139, proposed by GOP Senator James Inhofe, states simply the intent to "uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty."

In July Adm. James A. Lyons (Ret.), former Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Fleet and a senior military representative to the United Nations, described the ominous goals of the "One World Government"-types as it pertains to firearms:

The Arms Trade Treaty “includes only a weak nonbinding reference to the lawful ownership, use of, and trade in firearms, and recognizes none of these activities, much less individual self-defense, as fundamental individual rights.” When coupled with the treaty’s ceding of interpretive authority to other countries, this poses a direct threat to the Second Amendment.

46 Democrats voted against the amendment, meaning they seek to surrender U.S. sovereignty to the U.N. by erasing the Bill of Rights, one by one.

According to Lyons, the treaty is exceedingly dangerous because it can be amended by a majority vote of signatory countries, which would negate the Senate's constitutional authority to approve treaties by ceding it to foreign countries.

In addition, the treaty could prevent the U.S. from providing arms to strategic allies like Taiwan and Israel.

In short, the ill-named U.N. "Arms Trade Treaty" -- like Agenda 21 -- is a Trojan Horse, explicitly designed to usher in an era of "One World Government".

And Senators Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO) both voted to give away your Constitutional rights to Third World dictators, despots, and fascists.

I hope you let your friends in Louisiana and Missouri know.

Democrat Congressmen Call Wounded Benghazi Heroes "Liars"

By Investor's Business Daily

Scandal: The California Democrat who suggested that his party boycott the Benghazi Select Committee as a waste of time now accuses those who fought on the CIA annex roof of lying "to promote a new book."

The last we heard from Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a member of the House Intelligence Committee, was in May. That's when he told Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday" he thought the planned select committee to investigate the 2012 Benghazi attack was a "colossal waste of time."

Calling the yet-to-be-approved committee a "tremendous red herring," Schiff said: "I don't think it makes sense, really, for Democrats to participate."

Well, the Democrats participated in the committee that conducted its first hearing on Wednesday, and Schiff, along with Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., finds himself one of the Democrats picked by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to sit on it.

In fact, it was Schiff who proposed that the first hearing focus on the Benghazi Accountability Review Board's post-attack review and recommendations, an idea that committee head Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., accepted.

But Schiff apparently is still not happy about the hearing, which pointed out the State Department's pre-Benghazi neglect of security, ignoring the security recommendations after the 1998 bombings of our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.

The State Department also brushed off the warnings of Ambassador Chris Stevens himself, who was killed by terrorists in the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on our diplomatic mission there.

The hearing came right after Kris Paronto, Mark Geist and John Tiegen, three CIA contractors who on that night fought terrorists from the roof of the CIA's Benghazi annex building, confirmed that there was indeed a stand-down order given that caused a critical half-hour delay.

“Immediately” makes Obama sound proactive. Kerry’s testimony was full of similarly active language. He used the word “immediately” three times in close succession. But cheap marketing tricks can’t cover up the fact that Obama’s “immediately” kicked in when ISIS was marching on Baghdad... If you wait until an Al Qaeda spinoff has nearly taken over two countries, then there’s nothing immediate about your actions.

Kerry’s statement was filled with such delayed immediacies. “Deliberately and decisively, we further surged the ISR missions immediately,” he told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee... In fact there was nothing decisive or immediate about it.

Obama significantly delayed the rescue of the hostages leading to the televised beheadings. He responded with air strikes only when actual genocide had begun taking place and Iraq appeared to be on the verge of falling to ISIS.

There’s nothing immediate about any of that." --Daniel Greenfield

LATEST SENATE POLLING: Rove and the Establishment GOP Nitwits May Have Committed Electoral Suicide

The geriatric and senile Republican establishment could very well have destroyed their ability to take the Senate this year, a year that should have been ripe for a GOP landslide.

From Mitch McConnell's vow to "crush the Tea Party" all the way to rampant vote fraud in Mississippi, the Reince Priebus- and Karl Rove-led band of numbskulls have wagered that corrupting the primary process, demonizing the conservative activist base, and using borderline criminal tactics would unify the party.

As it turns out -- despite an onslaught of horrific news regarding the very real policy failures of Democrat governance -- it now appears that the Senate may not change hands after all. The latest aggregate poll numbers assembled by RCP appear to have Rove's panties in a bunch as evidenced by his hilarious plea for more donations in The Wall Street Journal.

IOWA - deadlocked
KANSAS - deadlocked (Pat Roberts defeated Tea Party-backed Milton Wolf in the primary)
NEW HAMPSHIRE - Democrat Shaheen leads by 12 points
GEORGIA - deadlocked
NORTH CAROLINA - Democrat Kay Hagan leads by 5 points over the establishment's Tillis
LOUISIANA - deadlocked
COLORADO - deadlocked
MICHIGAN - Democrat Peters leads by 7 points
MINNESOTA - Democrat Franken leads by 12 points
ALASKA - deadlocked
ARKANSAS - deadlocked
KENTUCKY - RINO McConnell leads by 3 points

In other words, "The Architect" and his band of highly-paid consultants, lobbyists, and sycophants -- in their selfish bid for "purity" -- could very well have squandered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

What a bunch of schmucks.

And anyone who gives Karl Rove a dime deserves everything they get, which is nothing.

RESET, INDEED: Ukrainian President Says That a "New Cold War" is About to Begin

By Investor's Business Daily

Eastern Europe: Addressing a rare joint session of the U.S. Congress, Ukraine's leader warns, like Churchill before him, of a growing and resurgent menace that has committed crimes in his country and threatens the West.

Back in 2009, after the Russian invasion of Georgia, we asked in the editorial recently reprised on the opposite page, "Is the Ukraine Next?" Well, it was. As President Reagan famously put it in a campaign commercial, there was once again a bear in the woods. Only this time we ignored it.

On Thursday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko gave a 40-minute speech to a rare joint session of Congress alerting lawmakers to the plight of his country under Russia's creeping "Anschluss."

Poroshenko once again pled for meaningful aid, including an affiliation with NATO, and warned that a new Iron Curtain may soon descend as Vladimir Putin tries to reassemble the Soviet Union whose demise he has publicly mourned.

"The war that these men are fighting today is not only Ukraine's war," he said. "It is Europe's, and it is America's war too. It is the war for the free world."

But once again Ukraine's request has fallen far short of being met.

In March, Ukraine asked for arms and ammunition, intelligence support, aviation fuel and night vision goggles. The Pentagon agreed only to provide the Ukrainians with supplies of U.S. military rations known as Meals Ready To Eat, or MREs.

QOTD: "...though the GOP establishment blames conservatives for not controlling the Senate, the establishment-backed Senate candidates in the 2012 election cycle lost in battleground states like Virginia, Wisconsin and even Montana, a race that should have been in the GOP column.

On his talk radio show this year, Mark Levin pointed this out: "noting that while candidates backed by Tea Party members like Mike Lee, Rand Paul, and Marco Rubio won in 2010, candidates heavily supported by Karl Rove and Mitch McConnell in Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Montana, New Mexico, and Wisconsin all got clobbered in 2012."

"All backed by Rove. All backed by McConnell. And all losers," Levin said. "We must not allow the Republican establishment and their friendly media to work with the liberal media to spin."

...Levin said that even though "the Republican establishment holds the blame for the GOP's minority status in the Senate," its "leadership wants to twist history to absolve themselves of that blame."

"But for the Tea Party, you'd be nothing, as you were before," Levin told the GOP establishment. "But for the Tea Party, Pelosi would be Speaker."" --Tony Lee

50 Objective Facts that Prove America is in an Unprecedented Decline Under Democrat Leadership

By Michael Snyder

What has happened to America? Please show these numbers to anyone that does not believe that the United States is in decline. It is time for all of us to humble ourselves and face the reality of what has happened to our once great nation. For those of us that love America, it is heartbreaking to watch the foundations of our society rot and decay in thousands of different ways. The following are 50 facts that show how far America has fallen in this generation, but the truth is that this list could have been far, far longer…

#1 According to a survey that was just conducted, only 36 percent of all Americans can name the three branches of government.

#2 Only 25 percent of all Americans know how long U.S. Senators are elected for (6 years), and only 20 percent of all Americans know how many U.S. senators there are.

#3 Even if you include same-sex couples in the numbers, the marriage rate in the United States is at a 93 year low.

#4 For the first time ever, single Americans make up more than half the U.S. population.

#5 31.1 percent of American young adults in the 18 to 34-year-old age bracket are currently living with their parents.
