Sen. Ted Cruz fires a warning shot over Harry Reid's bow on "Obama's lawless amnesty"

Sen. Ted Cruz just pimp-slapped Harry Reid:

Senator Harry Reid
Majority Leader
S-221, The Capitol
Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Leader Reid:

We write to express our alarm with President Obama's announced intention to take unilateral executive action by the end of this year to lawlessly grant amnesty to immigrants who have entered the country illegally. The Supreme Court has recognized that "over no conceivable subject is the power of Congress more complete" than its power over immigration. Therefore, President Obama will be exercising powers properly belonging to Congress if he makes good on his threat. This will create a constitutional crisis that demands action by Congress to restore the separation of powers.

As majority leader of the Senate, you have the responsibility of not only representing the citizens of your State, but also of protecting the Constitution through vigilant exercise of the checks and balances provided under the Constitution. Therefore, we write to offer our full assistance in ensuring expeditious Senate debate and passage for a measure that preserves the power of Congress by blocking any action the President may take to violate the Constitution and unilaterally grant amnesty; however, should you decline to defend the Senate and the Constitution from executive overreach, the undersigned Senators will use all procedural means necessary to return the Senate's focus during the lame duck session to resolving the constitutional crisis created by President Obama's lawless amnesty.

Sincerely,

Sens. Ted Cruz, R-TX; Mike Crapo, R-ID; Mike Lee, R-UT; Pat Roberts, R-KS; Jeff Sessions, R-AL; and David Vitter, R-LA

A Warning for Boehner, McConnell, Priebus, Rove, the RNC, and (especially) the Chamber of Crony Capitalism

Election 2014: A Conservative Victory by The Conservative Victory Project

The American people sent an unmistakable message to Washington:  Voters expect Republicans in Congress to listen and fight for the conservative agenda they ran on.

-  Every single newly elected Republican Senator ran on the full repeal of Obamacare. In most competitive races it was the top issue. Over 40,000 ads against Obamacare were run on behalf of winning candidates. The Republican House and Senate must now keep those campaign promises and use reconciliation to send a bill repealing Obamacare to the President.

-  All but one of the newly elected Republican Senators ran a strong campaign in favor of securing the border and opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants.

-  Every single newly elected Republican Senator ran in support of an agenda for hard-working middle class Americans that reduces spending, lowers taxes, and balances the budget-not in support of corporate welfare, bloated government spending bills, and endless debt-ceiling increases.

-  Far from downplaying social issues, every newly elected Republican Senator is pro-life and supports legislation that would protect unborn life after five months of pregnancy. The liberal candidates who painted pro-life candidates as engaged in a “War on Women” were routinely criticized and defeated.

Simply put, successful candidates ran as conservatives and won.

Oppose a Lame Duck Surrender

The Washington establishment is already calling on Republican leaders to capitulate to the Left in the Lame Duck. This means that opportunities to pursue conservative reforms next year will be lost.  New and returning Republican members should only vote for Leaders in the Senate and House who commit not to cave-in to President Obama and outgoing Majority Leader Reid in the Lame Duck.  The newly elected Republican Congress must have the opportunity to govern and return competence to a broken Washington.

KNIVES ARE OUT: Harry Reid Rips Bumbling Community Organizer Whose Only Skill is Reading a Teleprompter

WaPo's Paul Kane has the details of Harry Reid's temper tantrum. Reid's chief of staff, David Krone, just went public with his six-years-too-late concerns about nominating an inexperienced, back-bencher state senator with a nice logo to the office of POTUS.

Nahanni, can you pass the popcorn, dear?

...tension [inside the Democrat Party] blew up Tuesday when Krone’s comments about Democrats’ dismal showing in the 2014 midterms went public. He accused Obama of paying “lip service” to concerns about helping finance the midterm elections and said the president was an anchor that took down Democrats across the country, costing them the Senate majority.

“The president’s approval rating is barely 40 percent,” Krone said. “What else more is there to say?”

ISIS, Ebola, food stamps and rampant unemployment: what's not to like?

Krone joined Reid’s team as deputy chief of staff, helping guide him through a rocky 2010 reelection, and for the past four years as chief, Krone has channelled Reid. So his comments can reasonably be viewed as Reid’s views of Obama.

Nahanni, pass the butter, please.

EH, I THINK I'LL TAKE A RAIN CHECK: The solid gold Apple Watch could cost $5,000

Pass the Kleen-Ex, Tito: Ryan Whitwam has the bad news for the Apple fan-bois (and gurlz).

Apple pre-announced the much anticipated Apple Watch a few months ago, but neglected to discuss a price or exact launch date. Rumors are now pointing to a Valentine’s Day (February 14th) release in the US and a higher price than expected. The mid-tier stainless steel watch will sell for a somewhat high $500, but Apple will reportedly also offer the 18-karat gold “Apple Watch Edition” version for a whopping $5,000.

Any watch priced at $5,000 is a serious luxury item, and this device doesn’t even have all the intricate clockwork that watch enthusiasts love to geek out over. The rumored price is much higher than previous estimates based on similarly sized gold accessories. Jewelers estimated the gold watch could cost about $1,200. This version of the watch will also come with sapphire crystal and exclusive strap options. Still, that’s a lot to spend on a device that will be replaced with a new version in a year.

The entry-level Apple watch ("The Sport") is said to cost "only" $350.

Thanks, but I think I'll stick with my mechanical timepiece, which hasn't required a battery in -- oh -- about 25 years of continuous use.

WHERE ARE THE DAMNED HANDCUFFS?

That's the question posed by Karl Denninger:

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) admitted to the court that it failed to search any of the IRS standard computer systems for the “missing” emails of Lois Lerner and other IRS officials. The admission appears in an IRS legal brief opposing the Judicial Watch request that a federal court judge allow discovery into how “lost and/or destroyed” IRS records relating to the targeting of conservative groups may be retrieved. The IRS is fighting Judicial Watch’s efforts to force testimony and document production about the IRS’ loss of records in Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) litigation about the IRS targeting of Tea Party and other opponents of President Obama(Judicial Watch v. IRS (No. 1:13-cv-1559)). The lawsuit is before U.S. District Court Judge Emmett G. Sullivan.

The law requires that an FOIA search encompass all "reasonably retrievable" records, from which the party served can then argue for exemptions from disclosure.

It does not permit the target to choose not to look at its pleasure.

The foundation of any legitimate government is the Rule of Law.

We have lost that in this country, and until it is restored no progress will be made on any of the other issues that face us.

It's that simple, whether you're conservative, liberal or otherwise.

Amy Miller points to some relevant and maddening context.

The IRS admitted to Judge Sullivan that the agency failed to “submit declarations about any of the foregoing items because it had no reason to believe that they were sources from which to recover information lost as a result of Lerner’s hard drive failure.” [Emphasis added] Department of Justice attorneys for the IRS had previously told Judicial Watch that Lois Lerner’s emails, indeed all government computer records, are backed up by the federal government in case of a government-wide catastrophe. The Obama administration attorneys said that this back-up system would be too onerous to search. In the October federal court filing, the IRS does not deny that the government-wide back-up system exists, and acknowledges to the court that 760 other email “servers” have been discovered but had not been searched.

The IRS also refuses to disclose the names of the IRS officials who may have information about the IRS scandal, citing unspecified threats. The IRS says it pulled documents about the scandal from various employees into a “Congressional database” and that it has only searched this one “database” for missing records. Incredibly, the IRS has not searched any of the IRS’s regular computer systems for any missing records and admits that it has only searched a “database” that it knows does not contain the missing records being sought by the court, Judicial Watch, and Congress.

In other words, multiple agencies of the Obama bureaucracy have thumbed their collective noses at the law and federal judges.

The rule of law means absolutely nothing to the Left, and it's high time they were held to account.

QOTD: "On Tuesday, Mark Levin said it’s now time that conservatives take back the GOP once and for all. And he said Republicans must not relinquish the power of the purse during the lame-duck sessions of Congress...

"We gotta kick the liberals out and then take back the Republican party,” Levin declared. “We must get a conservative nominated in 2016... “How many more times are we going to beat our head against the walls” with McCains and the Romneys in presidential elections?

The scholar and former Chief of Staff to Ronald Reagan’s Attorney General Ed Meese said the country is in a post-constitutional period. He warned Republicans not to surrender before the next Congress even starts.

He said that if Republicans leaders work with Democrats on a "massive omnibus budget bill” during the lame-duck session, “then they’ve just surrendered the power of the purse and they have nothing left to rein in Obama.” Levin said that the Framers felt that the power of the purse was “so crucial” that they gave most of it to the House of Representatives “because it’s the people’s house.”

He warned Republican leaders like current Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner to not work with Democrats to pass an omnibus bill during the lame-duck session." --Tony Lee

Retired Marine gets threats after guarding Canadian war memorial

Jeff Schogol, writing at Marine Corps Times, offers us an excellent testimonial to a true American warrior and patriot.

Retired Marine Maj. “Fox” Sinke says he has received threatening phone calls from Arabic speakers since he stood guard at Canada’s National War Memorial last week.

But as he told police: “If they’re looking for a fight, they came to the right guy.”

Sinke said he received at least two phone calls on Tuesday from people who screamed at him in Arabic and then hung up.

“The only words I recognized were ‘kill you,’ because I’ve heard them before,” he said.

When Sinke told police about the phone calls, he added, “I promise you this: If they come here, they’ll die here.”

A Caliphate grows in Sweden

By Investor's Business Daily

Political Correctness: The perils of multiculturalism and open borders have reached critical mass in Sweden. There are Muslim enclaves where postal, fire and other essential services — even police officers themselves —require police protection.

A police report released last month identifies 55 of these "no-go zones" in Sweden. These zones are similar to others that have popped up in Europe in recent years. They formed as large Muslim populations emigrating to politically correct and tolerant European states refuse to assimilate and set up virtual states within a state where the authorities fear to tread.

Soeren Kern of the Hudson Institute has documented the proliferation of these zones. They are de facto Muslim micro-states under Shariah law that reject Western values, society and legal systems. In these districts non-Muslims are expected to conform to the dictates of fundamentalist Islam or face violent consequences.

"A more precise name for these zones," says Middle Eastern expert Daniel Pipes, "would be Dar al-Islam — the House of Islam or the place where Islam rules."

Muslim immigration to Sweden has been fostered by an open-border asylum policy. In the 1990s, the country welcomed 100,000 refugees fleeing the conflict in the Balkans.

Matt Bracken Opens Up a Can on the Washington Post

On the night of the elections, the most transparent administration ever dumped more than 64,000 pages of documents related to Operation Fast and Furious, the ill-fated Obama gun-running operation.

The Washington Post -- in its usual effort to spin the news in favor of the administration -- failed to note that the documents were turned over only after years of litigation, pursuant to a federal judge's ruling against the Holder Justice Department for its patently bogus claim of "Executive Privilege".

Author Matt Bracken, commenting at WaPo's site, torched the Obama press release distribution outlet, and provided an excellent synopsis of the true motivation behind the eminently diabolical plot to eradicate the Second Amendment.

"The operation targeted Mexican gun traffickers, but two rifles involved were linked to the killing of U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry."

That is the official MSM Koolaid line, but it's a lie. Under Operation Fast and Furious, there was no attempt to track the guns after they crossed the border. We didn't even inform the Mexican government or law enforcement, or seek their cooperation in tracking the guns, because tracking the guns was not the objective. The objective was to buttress the false meme being promoted by Obama, Holder and Hillary Clinton that "90% of the guns found at Mexican murder scenes came from America." The actual objective, by spreading this lie, was to turn Americans against the 2nd Amendment.

300+ Mexicans and a pair of American agents murdered with F&F guns were the price Obama, Holder and Clinton were willing to pay. Mass murder abroad was the price they were willing to pay for a political objective at home. And what did we hear from American Pravda? Crickets. Operation Fast and Furious was pure evil, mass murder for political purposes, and the MSM was a willing partner.

American Pravda's motto today is "It's not a scandal if we don't report it!" "Look, a squirrel! Celebrities are having scandals! Pay no attention to our own government conducting a mass-murder operation to attain a political objective!" And with the help of the collaborating MSM, it worked.

The Washington Post just spent another week celebrating their Watergate scoops with the passing of Ben Bradley. How many people were murdered in the Watergate scandal? Zero, compared to 300+ Mexicans and at least 2 American federal agents.

And what do we get from the WaPo? Crickets, and an occasional article promoting the absurd cover story for Operation F&F, that it was intended to track the guns in Mexico.

Editor's Note: I recently finished Matt Bracken's outstanding trilogy on Kindle -- "ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC" -- and I can't recommend it highly enough. Buy it and read it now. Don't worry, I'll wait here.

QOTD: "...Campaign 2014 is another textbook example of media bias. According to the national media, Kansas and Georgia were going to turn blue. Kansas because of Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS)93%, but more importantly because Gov. Sam Brownback decided to force through “unpopular” tax cuts. For weeks, Chuck Todd has been gearing up to claim tax cuts are no longer a winning issue for the GOP. But Sam Brownback got re-elected, as did Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS)93%, and the Kansas Democrats lost seats in the state legislature. The media ignored so much in Kansas. In Georgia, the media bought into the Democrats’ narrative that the state was going blue. In fact, both Nathan Deal and David Perdue won without runoffs. Neither Jason Carter nor Michelle Nunn improved the Democrats’ position from 2010. In fact, in baseline races where there was no heavy partisan activity, Georgia Republicans averaged 58% of the vote. In Florida, Rick Scott beat Charlie Crist. Were you to believe the media for the past three months, there was no way Scott could get re-elected.

Likewise, the media spent months salivating over Democrats Allison Grimes, Wendy Davis, and Michelle Nunn. All three women lost. Meanwhile, the GOP is sending the first black female Republican to Congress with Mia Love. They’re sending conservative legend Barbara Comstock who won in Northern Virginia. And they’re sending veteran Joni Ernst from Iowa. Ernst, by the way, ran one of the best campaigns in America. But the media ignored the Republican women, focusing instead on the fashion choices of losing Democrats who stroked their world view.

By the way, not only did Wendy Davis lose the gubernatorial election in Texas, but her State Senate seat flipped to the GOP’s tea party candidate, Konni Burton." --Erick Erickson

QOTD: "The Obama Administration and Iran have developed closer secret diplomatic ties over the past months. A key player in this back channel deal making is Valerie Jarrett. It is now known that Jarrett had traveled to Iran for a series of secret ,top-level contact meetings. Jarrett is probably President Obama’s closest confident and advisor. From Obama’s very first political discussions and fundraising meetings, she was instrumental in his political rise. She has always been a close member of his inner group having hired Michelle Obama 1st into Chicago city government and then to be a vice president of the University of Chicago Hospital.

According to the WSJ and numerous US and Arab officials, Washington and Iran have been conducting secret discussions regarding mutual regional interests, and the fight against their common enemy, the Islamic State (IS or ISIS) terror group.

American officials told the WSJ that the Obama administration has passed messages to Tehran by using the offices of Iraq’s new Shiite prime minister, Haider al-Abadi, as well as Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, one of Shi’ite Islam’s most senior clerics. The WSJ also states that the Obama administration also has markedly softened its stance toward “Iran’s most important non-state allies,” namely, Hamas and Hezbollah.

The WSJ warns that this shift could drastically alter the balance of power in the region, alienating key US allies such as Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, who are central to the coalition fighting IS.WSJ also quotes US officials who say that de-emphasizing deterrence against Iran could be destabilizing, signaling to the Revolutionary Guard that America will not take steps to counter Iranian measures in the Middle East and in the international arena. These back channel, secret arrangements are also raising anxiety in Israel that the US is making a deal with Iran that would allow Iran to continue its nuclear weapons agenda." --Israpundit

THE TIME IS NOW: Deliver an Anti-Amnesty Message That Democrats Won't Soon Forget

By Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)

A nation’s first loyalty must be to its own citizens.

But the immigration policies of President Obama and Congressional Democrats help only billionaire special interests, amnesty activists, and the citizens of other countries – while reducing jobs and pay for our own.

Every single Senate Democrat voted for the Obama-backed plan to provide immediate work permits to 12 million illegal immigrants – allowing them to compete for any job in America. This legislation would also double the rate at which low-wage guest workers are brought into the U.S. to fill jobs throughout the economy.

Further, the legislation would triple the rate of permanent immigration, giving lifetime work permits and citizenship to over 30 million immigrants over the next ten years.

Immigration lobbyists have so little regard for you, that they are meeting in secret with the White House right now to plan executive amnesty orders. These orders, planned for after the election, would implement by executive fiat the sweeping amnesty that was rejected by the Republican House.

America already has the world’s most generous immigration policy. The foreign-born population is at record levels, quadrupling since 1970. Since 2000, the U.S. has issued nearly 30 million lawful visas to foreign guest workers and permanent immigrants. During that time, all net employment gains among the working-age went to immigrant workers.

This large surplus of labor has also pulled down wages –family incomes are down more than $3,000 since 2009 alone.

Obama's Half-Hearted Airstrikes Mysteriously Fail To "Degrade And Destroy" Islamic State

By Investor's Business Daily

War On Terror: U.S. officials report that more than 1,000 foreign fighters are streaming into Syria each month as a United Nations report says that the terrorist influx has reached an "unprecedented scale."

According to the new U.N. report, a lot more terrorist boots are on the ground these days as an "unbelievably small" — to use Secretary of State John Kerry's phrase — air campaign, which has taken months to do what should have been done in a day, has failed to achieve the administration's proclaimed goal: to "degrade and destroy" the Islamic State.

More than 15,000 foreign fighters from as many as 80 countries have streamed into Syria and Iraq since 2010. The flow continues on "an unprecedented scale," according to the U.N. report, obtained by Britain's Guardian newspaper.

These fighters have come from such unlikely places as the Maldive Islands. The group's videos feature jihadists with Chilean, Norwegian and other backgrounds.

"There are instances of foreign terrorist fighters from France, the Russian Federation and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island operating together," the report notes.

An Islamic State video showed British hostage Alan Henning being beheaded by a fighter with a British accent. More than 500 British citizens are said to have traveled to the region since 2011.

The U.N. analysis dovetails with a report in the Washington Post that, according to U.S. intelligence and counterterrorism officials, more than a thousand foreign fighters are pouring into Syria each month, "a rate that has so far been unchanged by airstrikes against the Islamic State and efforts by other countries to stem the flow of departures."

SICKENING: Cuomo Appointee Behind Letters Threatening Democrat Voters in New York

By Rusty Weiss

Last week we reported on a letter that was sent out to over a million Democrat voters that not only shames party members into voting, but includes veiled threats that they better get out there … or else.

The letter states that “we will be reviewing” your “official voting records,” and ends with a rather sinister proclamation that “If you do not vote this year, we will be interested to hear why not.”

Fred Dicker at the New York Post reports that the letter was authored by Neal Kwatra, a Cuomo appointee.

Via the New York Post:

The menacing letter sent out to a million New York Democrats to bully them into voting was written by a top campaign strategist who was appointed by Gov. Cuomo himself, sources told The Post.

The revelation comes as a “circular firing squad” of finger-pointing has erupted over who is responsible for the letter, which was sent out last week by the New York State Democratic Committee and caused “panic” in the Cuomo camp, sources said.

...Neal Kwatra, appointed by Cuomo to be the state Democratic Party’s chief campaign strategist, was identified by two key Democratic insiders as the “author” of the mailer.

“It was the brainchild of Neal Kwatra,” said one of the insiders. “He wrote the letter and sent it out, and now other Cuomo people are trying to distance themselves from it.”

Kwatra wasn’t simply hired as a strategist for the Democrat Party in general New York state elections, but according to a Daily News article last April, he was brought in to aid Cuomo’s national image by giving him “a commanding victory in November.”

Another Daily News report indicates that while he will be paid by the state Democrat party, Kwatra “in reality” will “mostly be helping Cuomo with his campaign.”

QOTD: "At a recent hearing conducted by the Virginia legislature, federal Health and Human Services official Joanne Grossie told lawmakers that people shouldn’t view the cancellation of insurance policies due to Obamacare as losing insurance. It’s really an “invitation” to get another policy, Grossie said.

“If you got one of the notices that your policy was going to be discontinued because it didn’t adhere to the law, it meant that now you could go into the health insurance marketplace,” she said. “So, I just want to remind you that you weren’t losing insurance; you were just losing that insurance plan and were now being invited to go into the health insurance marketplace.”

...Your wages haven’t been stagnant thanks to President Obama’s economic policies. You’ve merely been “invited” to live an increasingly frugal lifestyle. You weren’t fired from your job. You were “invited” to look for other employment opportunities. Your spouse didn’t divorce you. You were merely “invited” to return to the single life." --The Oklahoman

Here's the entire article on Hagan-gate pulled by the Charlotte Observer - plus contact info for their executives

I'll let Legal Insurrection's Amy Miller set the stage.

American Commitment president Phil Kerpen recently caught The Charlotte Observer dumping an article laying out North Carolina Democrat Kay Hagan’s connection to potentially serious mishandling of stimulus funds.

Here's the entire article, no longer available at the Observer's site, but instead resurrected from the Google cache.

Memo: Grant given to company run by Sen. Hagan's husband needs 'legal review'

State officials say a stimulus grant given to a company run by Kay Hagan's husband needs "further legal review."

WBTV obtained a memo written by the Department of Energy and Natural Resources which includes a letter to the state's auditor from last month. The memo states that NCDENR is looking into potential conflict of interest claims involving Senator Kay Hagan.

NCDENR says they have reviewed grant records and found conflict of issue claims warranted further legal review. Kay Hagan's husband manages one of the companies in question, who received an energy efficiency grant money in 2010.

According to the NC Department of Energy and Natural Resources, the grant agreement included provisions prohibiting family members from receiving incentive payments, “these rules require, among other things, that no one with direct lineal relations may receive incentive payment. For example, the mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughter or a contractor working in this Program cannot receive Awards, contracts and subcontracts.”

The federal Department of Energy Assistance grant agreement had similar regulations that included members of the immediate family, partners, or people who has a financial interest in the firm selected for the grant.

The $250,644 grant in question went to JDC Manufacturing LLC. JDC Manufacturing is managed by John Hagan, David Hagan, and Charles “Chip” Hagan.

Chip Hagan is Senator Kay Hagan's husband.

Grant records show that other companies controlled by the Hagan family received money through this grant.

The NCDENR says the grant was for an energy-efficiency project at the company's building in Reidsville, NC. Plastics Revolution was the tenant of that building and the president of that company is John Hagan.

JDC Manufacturing hired SolarDyne, LLC to do the solar portion of the project, but SolarDyne was allegedly not the lowest bidder and is now registered to the NC Secretary of State as Green Street Power, LLC, managed by Tilden Hagan, Chip Hagan, and William Stewart.

Another subcontractor for solar instillation is owned by William Stewart and lists Tilden Hagan as an employee.

NCDENR sen the grant to the State Auditor's Office and the State Budget and Management Office to be reviewed on October 21 because the grant involved state funds.

If the State Budget and Management Office finds a conflict of interest connection between the funds and Senator Hagan, the issue will be sent on to the Attorney General and the SBI.

Here's the contact information for the Charlotte Observer's august executive team.
