QOTD: "We have to ask the question: who does it benefit for the talks to drag on, while Iran continues making more bomb-grade nuclear material? Who does it benefit when Iran suddenly decides to back away from any inspections, never mind the unannounced “snap” inspections we’ve been calling for? ...

...After all the questioning “why not walk away?” there’s just one question remaining: why would Obama want Iran to have a nuclear bomb? Because that’s exactly what he’s doing." --Steve Berman

RUH ROH: Bernie Sanders Rips Obama’s Fictional Labor Reports; "Real Unemployment is 10.5%!"

Self-professed Socialist and Democrat Senator Bernie Sanders is surging in the polls as Granny Catlady's campaign continues to implode. Most recently, Sanders drew a crowd of 7,500 in a city with 66,000 residents (in other words, over 48%, but I'm no mathematician, my numbers could be off).

Earlier today, Sanders ripped a key White House economic fable stating that the real U.S. unemployment rate is double what the Obama administration claims.
“When you talk about the economy we also have to have an honest assessment of unemployment in America,” Sanders told a crowd of 7,500 gathered at a presidential campaign rally in Portland, Maine.

“Once a month the government publishes a set of figures, and the last figures they published said that official unemployment was 5.4 percent,” the Democratic nominee continued, slightly misstating the Labor Department’s most recent report which put June’s unemployment rate at 5.3 percent.

“But there is another set of government statistics,” Sanders continued, “and that that real unemployment if you include those people who have given up looking for work and the millions of others who are working part-time 20, 25 hours a week when they want to work full-time, when you all of that together, real unemployment is 10.5 percent.”
Aside from being a radical Marxist kook, Sanders has plenty of other skeletons in his closet.

Pass the popcorn, Nahanni.

WHAT COULD GO WRONG? Iran Revolutionary Guards to Get Huge Cash Infusion From Obama’s Nuke Deal

By The Tower

The sanctions relief that is slated to accompany the emerging nuclear deal with Iran will likely enrich and further entrench Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Reuters reported on Monday.

The Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), created by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini during Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, is more than just a military force. It is also an industrial empire with political clout that has grown exponentially in the last decade, benefiting from the favor of former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, himself a former guardsman and, most recently, from the opportunities created by Western sanctions.

A Western diplomat who follows Iran closely told Reuters that the IRGC’s recent annual turnover from all of its business activities was estimated to be around $10-12 billion. …

It was the IRGC, unquestioningly loyal to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, that suppressed student protests in 1999 and also silenced the pro-reform protests that followed Ahmadinejad’s disputed re-election in 2009.

According to Reuters, $12 billion would equal about one sixth of Iran’s economy.

As Nuke Talks Grind On, Iran’s "Moderates" Call for Israel’s Destruction

By The Tower

Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, a former president of Iran and an ally of current President Hassan Rouhani, called for the destruction of Israel and described the country as “alien” and “temporary,” according to a report Monday in Iran’s official IRNA news agency. Rafsanjani, who heads the powerful Expediency Council, which advises Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, made the comments in an interview with a Hezbollah-affiliated news outlet.

In response to a question why the Zionist regime has done its best to prevent the path for reaching a nuclear agreement between Iran and the West, Ayatollah Rafsanjani said that even Tel Aviv knows well that Iran is not after acquiring nuclear weapons.

‘By doing so the Zionist wish to keep Iran engaged in problems permanently, knowing that the Islamic Republic’s political, economic, cultural and propagation status will all improve after such an agreement,’ he said.

Asked about the future of the Palestinian nation, Rafsanjani said that he still believes that eventually one day the forged and temporary Israeli entity, which is an alien existence forged into the body of a nation and a region be wiped off the map.

Rafsanjani, who along with Rouhani is often characterized as a moderate, appears to associate Israel’s destruction with the completion of the nuclear deal.

Iran’s top leaders have a long record of threatening Israel’s existence. Khamenei last year tweeted out “9 key questions about the elimination of Israel.”

The Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs published a study (.pdf) in 2012 cataloging the various calls Iran’s leaders have issued for Israel’s destruction.

TED CRUZ LEVELS POLITIFACT: ‘Noxious Yellow Journalism’

By Jon Cassidy

In his new book, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, calls out “a new, particularly noxious species of yellow journalism that is beginning to infect what passes for modern political discourse. It’s called ‘PolitiFact.’”

Cruz gives three reasons PolitiFact sucks: selection bias, liberal bias and inability to differentiate fact from opinion.

We’ve been pointing out those exact problems, and many others, for years now. In fact, among the dozens of articles we’ve done on PolitiFact’s shortcomings, there’s a 14-part series on this exact fight: PolitiFact vs. Cruz.

Now, W. Gardner Selby of PolitiFact Texas has already responded with a glib little column pointing out a slight error in Cruz’s book. Congratulations to Selby. That’s already more substantive than just about any of the attacks on Cruz he’s written.

The final score for our 14-part review was Cruz, 12, PolitiFact, 1; and one disqualification when both sides were wrong.

QOTD: "Amid all this leftish high-fiving about court decisions and executive orders, we forget political and electoral reality. Barack Obama has done more to destroy liberal political power in the Congress and in the statehouses than any Democratic politician since the 1920s. His executive orders and neglect of enforcing existing law have green-lighted the executive power of the next Republican president in a way that Richard Nixon could hardly imagine. He has discredited the idea of a disinterested media to such a degree that its biased audits of the next future Republican administration will be seen as laughable.

Europe and the United States are seeing glimpses of the ultimate leftist trajectory — a mixture of Greece and Detroit, de facto non-enforcement of the law, the Iranian nuke deal, a new McCarthyism, and race, class, and gender hatred — and are becoming afraid and perhaps appalled. A growing number of people sense that 21st century leftist elites are not pragmatic working people, but a privileged sect that callously experiments with other people’s lives on the understanding that they are insulated and immune from the inevitable disasters that follow from their own ideas.

A great pushback is awakening here and abroad, but its timing, nature, and future remain mysterious." --Victor Davis Hanson

GRANNY HILLARY: Obama’s Deal With Iran Won’t Stop Them From Launching Lots of Terror Attacks

I paraphrase, but only just a skōsh..

Leading Democratic presidential candidate, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, says that even with a nuclear deal Iran will still be “the world’s chief sponsor of terrorism,” Yahoo! politics reported Friday.

“But even if we do get such a deal, we will still have major problems from Iran,” she said. “They are the world’s chief sponsor of terrorism. They use proxies like Hezbollah to sow discord and to create insurgencies, to destabilize governments. They are taking more and more control of a number of nations in the region and they pose an existential threat to Israel.”

“So even if we are successful on the nuclear front, we still are going to have to turn our attention to working with our partners to try to rein in and prevent this continuing Iranian aggressiveness,” Clinton said.

Various critics of the nuclear deal with Iran have raised similar concerns that the deal will only fuel Iran’s efforts to destabilize the Middle East. These critics include Foreign Policy editor David Rothkopf, former secretaries of state Henry Kissinger and George Shultz, former State Department official Aaron David Miller, and Washington Institute for Near East Policy fellows Mehdi Khalaji, Soner Cagaptay, and James Jeffrey.

Last week, the U.S. State Department released a report calling Iran a state sponsor of terrorism.

So why isn't Hillary speaking out directly against this insane deal?

Alas, that too is a rhetorical question.

CHALK UP ANOTHER NEEDLESS DEATH: Thank the Democrats’ Treasonous Quest for Open Borders

By Dan Cadman

By all accounts Kate Steinle was a vivacious young woman with a bright future ahead of her — until she met her death at the hands of an illegal alien while strolling on a San Francisco pier with her father, who witnessed the fatal shooting. The alien was quickly apprehended by police and identified as Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, a citizen of Mexico with seven felony convictions and five prior deportations from the United States.

According to media outlets, Lopez-Sanchez was arrested by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents who discovered that there was an outstanding warrant for a drug violation and did the right thing: They turned him over to the police for prosecution and filed a detainer requesting that they get him back at the conclusion of the charges. That's where things went seriously wrong.

What did the district attorney's office do? They promptly declined to prosecute and the warrant was dismissed. (I would bet good money that, whether they admit it or not, the reason they wanted to drop the charges is because they figured the subject could just be dumped back on the federal government saving them time and headaches while compounding someone else's.)

Meanwhile, Lopez-Sanchez had been booked into the San Francisco County Jail. What did they do? Refuse to honor the detainer filed by the agents who had given them the subject to prosecute in the first place, simply releasing him instead to the street, where he wandered around until he shot Ms. Steinle to death.

The Dukes of Hazzard vs. Today’s Slave Markets

Yet another must-read from Sultan Knish, aka Daniel Greenfield.

On Mad TV in the nineties, there was a routine where some fast-talking dude would pull out a business card with a flourish while intoning the word "Bam!"

And, Bam!

When Obama condemned Christianity for the Crusades, only a thousand years too late, in attendance was the Foreign Minister of Sudan; a country that practices slavery and genocide. Obama could have taken time out from his rigorous denunciation of the Middle Ages to speak truth to the emissary of a Muslim Brotherhood regime whose leader is wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity. But our moral liberals spend too much time romanticizing actual slaver cultures.

It’s a lot easier for Obama to get in his million dollar Cadillac with its 5-inch thick bulletproof windows, a ride Boss Hogg could only envy, and chase down a couple of good ole boys than it is to condemn a culture that committed genocide in our own time, not in 1099, and that keeps slaves today, not in 1815.

Even while the Duke boys were being chased through Georgia, Obama appeared at an Iftar dinner; an event at which Muslims emulate Mohammed, who had more slaves than Robert E. Lee. There are no slaves in Arlington House today, but in the heartlands of Islam, from Saudi mansions to ISIS dungeons, there are still slaves, laboring, beaten, bought, sold, raped and disposed of in Mohammed’s name.

Slavery does not exist under the Confederate flag eagerly being pulled down. It does exist under the black and green flags of Islam rising over mosques in Iraq, Saudi Arabia and America today.

What exactly does it say about a society -- and a political party -- that will tar a decades-old TV show while ignoring real crimes against humanity?

Talk amongst yourselves.

QOTD: "...when did Americans ever get asked if they wanted the Federal government to stop enforcing our borders? When did developed countries decide that having actual borders is a violation of basic human rights? I can’t recall any referendum on that.

This is an issue across the Western world. So far, only Australia and Israel have taken robust steps to halt migrant flows, but they have shown that admitting large numbers of illegal immigrants is a choice, not a fait accompli or a fact of life that developed countries can do nothing about. Given the enormous migrant flows facing Europe now, this is sure to become a bigger and more contentious issue in many countries.

All these are critical matters that merit serious discussion, not rabble-rousing. Yet when the mainstream powers-that-be stifle such necessary discussion, confining it to the fringes, don’t complain when fringe characters are the ones talking about it." --The XX Committee

6 MOST POWERFUL COMMENTS ON THE GREEK DEBACLE: Left-wing Fantasists vs. One World Fanatics

Fiat currency printed ad infinitum on presses controlled by the political class and their corporate cronies, eco-Fascists, and One World Government Marxists -- what could possibly go wrong?

Greece is only the first domino to fall, and fall it will, whether this month or next. Then the rest of the dominoes will follow, smashing creditors along the way on a path once called contagion. Though it's truly not a virus, it's mathematics triumphing over political fantasists. And the turn of the United States will itself eventually come, unless and until we begin electing leaders with virtue.

People in the mold of Reagan and Cruz. People apart from the system, willing to speak truth to power.

6. Janet Daley, The Telegraph
Greece has become a battleground for the worst ideas of the 20th century: Which of these do you find more repugnant: an autocratic European Union which is no longer bothering to conceal its intention to displace an elected government, or a shambolic clique of Left-wing fantasists who are propelling a country – and its hapless population – into economic ruin and political chaos?

5. The Z Man:
The Greek Revolution: The problem at the core of global finance is that there’s no market mechanism to restrain public debt. The whole point of a floating currency regime is to disguise public debt in order to avoid making tough choices about the welfare state. It’s not an accident that since the Louvre Accords the size and scope of government has skyrocketed throughout the West.

In other words, a currency system based on credit has worked at hiding the cost of government. In fact, it has been so good at it no one noticed that Greece was running up debt at an alarming rate. In the old system, Greece would have been facing double digit borrowing rates long before they reached this point...

...The only people with the ability to pay sovereign debt are the tax payers.

Wherein Gay Supremacist @GeorgeTakei Gets Pwnt by @Instapundit

I term radicals like George Takei gay supremacists because they believe their rights trump my religious liberties. There's no other way to state it. Because if I'm an observant Christian who owns a bakery and does not want to bake a cake that celebrates gay "marriage", the gay supremacists believe I should be forced to do so, even at gunpoint (by the police) if need be.

Perhaps George can answer my hypothetical question:

If we don’t want to add to the ranks of the poor, the uninsured and the welfare dependent, we should have fewer low-skilled immigrants — assuming saying that is not yet officially considered a hate crime.

QOTD: "The devil is not in the details. It’s in the entire conception of the Iran deal, animated by President Obama’s fantastical belief that he, uniquely, could achieve detente with a fanatical Islamist regime whose foundational purpose is to cleanse the Middle East of the poisonous corruption of American power and influence.

In pursuit of his desire to make the Islamic Republic into an accepted, normalized “successful regional power,” Obama decided to take over the nuclear negotiations. At the time, Tehran was reeling — the rial plunging, inflation skyrocketing, the economy contracting — under a regime of international sanctions painstakingly constructed over a decade.

Then, instead of welcoming Congress’ attempt to tighten sanctions to increase the pressure on the mullahs, Obama began the negotiations by loosening sanctions, injecting billions into the Iranian economy (which began growing again in 2014) and conceding in advance an Iranian right to enrich uranium.

It’s been downhill ever since. Desperate for a legacy deal, Obama has played the supplicant, abandoning every red line his administration had declared essential to any acceptable deal." --Charles Krauthammer

SHAKING MY HEAD: How Can Scott Walker’s Team Hire Someone Like Brad Dayspring?

By John Hawkins

Scott Walker’s campaign caught flack for hiring Liz Mair earlier this year. Liz, whom I know and respect despite the fact she’s well to the left of me on a number of issues, made the mistake of slamming Iowa’s position in the primary system. Most conservatives don’t like Iowa having so much sway in the GOP primaries, but most conservatives also aren’t working for a candidate who’s running in those primaries either. After Walker caught flack from Iowans over Mair’s remarks, she ended up resigning. That’s too bad because Liz is an excellent digital media strategist, but once her comments became a big enough issue to actually hurt Walker in the primary, it put him in a very difficult position.

Today, he’s in a much worse position because Scott Walker’s Unintimidated PAC has hired Brad Dayspring.

Some people might excuse Scott Walker for this hire because he currently can’t coordinate with the PAC. However, people in the know realize that’s a cop-out. The PAC is run by former high-level Scott Walker staffers who would NEVER deliberately do anything he doesn’t agree with. Furthermore, you can be sure that there was PLENTY of coordination between Walker and his staffers right up until the moment he was legally unable to continue to do so. Is it possible that he personally approved the hiring of someone like Dayspring beforehand? Absolutely, but a big part of the value of PACS like this one is that they create a degree of separation between the candidate and the PAC. The PACs can run dirty ads and they can hire dirtbags who will undermine grassroots conservatives at every opportunity and supposedly, the candidate can’t be blamed.

Well, not this time.

Please support @GodfreyElfwick in his quest for #PregnancyEquality

Why not?

While Elfwick is a tongue-in-cheek persona, his message is more serious.

I can't help but ruminate on the Biblical message of Sodom and Gomorrah as Barack Obama races to arm a neo-Nazi terror regime with nuclear weapons.

THE SUPREME COURT’S CRIMES: Words No Longer Matter

By Richard Larsen

This week the Supreme Court struck another major blow to common sense and the English language. In a ruling upholding the subsidies afforded policies purchased on the federal insurance exchange, the SCOTUS opened a veritable Pandora’s Box of legal interpretation, and expanded power not only of the judiciary, but of the federal government itself.

Seven times throughout the Affordable Care Act (ACA) references are made to policies or individuals who are “enrolled in through an Exchange established by the State under section 1311 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act…” In each case, the context is citing policies purchased through insurance exchanges established and operated by the respective states. But the court ruled the actual legal language, and even the context, didn’t matter. What mattered was the “intent” of the congress. So reading “tea leaves” now has greater weight with our legal system than the literal words of legal documents!

To be clear, the case was brought to the court on that very issue, whether the literal meaning of the words of the statute were legally binding. The decision was not regarding the efficacy of the ACA, or whether it’s feasible. The decision was on whether the law could be interpreted to support federal subsidies for states with no insurance exchange or only those states that had established their own exchange.

Even Chief Justice John Roberts, who wrote the majority decision, conceded that a strict reading of the Act clearly meant only policies purchased through individual state exchanges were eligible for federal subsidies. He wrote, “While the meaning of the phrase…may seem plain when viewed in isolation, such a reading turns out to be untenable in light of the statute as a whole. Those credits are necessary for the Federal Exchanges to function like their State Exchange counterparts, and to avoid the type of calamitous result that Congress plainly meant to avoid.”
