Donald Trump has risen to a new high and Ben Carson’s support has plummeted among Republican primary voters after a tumultuous month of international and domestic terrorism, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds...
...Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas has vaulted into second place, amid signs that he has picked up former Carson supporters. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida placed third in the survey, but the poll also carried evidence that he stands to benefit most when the big field of GOP candidates is winnowed.
QOTD: "Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz has surged ahead to become the latest front-runner in the campaign for the Iowa caucuses, dislodging Ben Carson and opening an impressive lead over a stalled Donald Trump, a Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register Iowa Poll shows.
The firebrand junior senator from Texas is backed by 31 percent of those likely to attend the Republican caucuses that start the presidential nomination season on Feb. 1. Trump is a distant second at 21 percent, up slightly from 19 percent in October, but below his peak of 23 percent in August...
...Cruz's 21-percentage-point jump since October is the largest surge between Iowa Polls recorded in at least the last five presidential caucus campaigns
When first and second choices are combined, he has the support of 51 percent of likely caucus-goers. The senator’s great leap forward comes largely at the expense of Carson, as Iowa’s evangelicals appear to have picked the candidate they want to get behind." --NewsMax
Trump Derangement Syndrome. In the first five years of Barack Obama’s presidency, the number of guns manufactured in the United States soared astronomically, according to a new report released yesterday from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy plans to sign the first executive order in the nation to ban the sales of guns to people on federal government watch lists.
"We intend to prevent, by executive order through my powers as governor, those on government watch lists from obtaining a permit to purchase a firearm in Connecticut," the Democratic governor said in a news conference Thursday.
That might pass muster if you'd been convicted of a crime.

— Patrick J. Egan (@Patrick_J_Egan) December 11, 2015QOTD: "Have you watched the news about President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton loudly demanding justice in the Laquan McDonald case in Chicago? No?
Me neither. I haven't seen word one from the mouths of Obama or Clinton about any of it. All I've seen are tepid, tapioca statements from their spokesmen.
That silence interests me. Sometimes, what politicians avoid, what they won't say, is more compelling than their dog and pony shows and photo ops.
Yes, Clinton did back a call for a Justice Department investigation of Chicago police when the mayor was still in denial. But since then, crickets. She and other national Democrats are keeping their hands off Chicago. And I'm sure you know why.
The guy who runs Chicago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, is their guy." --John Kass
The Islamic State may have gotten a passport printer, and could be using it to send militants into the United States carrying Syrian passports that are by all appearances authentic, according to a Homeland Security intelligence report.
ISIS likely obtained an intact passport printer and “boxes of blank passports” from a Syrian passport office in Deir ez-Zour when it took the city last summer, the report, obtained by ABC News, states. The group’s de facto capital, Raqqa, also has a printing office according to the document.
As the government’s funding deadline approaches, Senior Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) and Senate Judiciary Subcommittee Chairman Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) warn that unless changes are made, “The omnibus [spending bill] would put the U.S. on a path to approve admission for hundreds of thousands of migrants from a broad range of countries with jihadists movements.”
As we near a vote on the year-end government funding bill, we believe it is essential that Congress take strong steps to restore the security and financial integrity of our immigration system. In recent months, we have seen immigrants in the United States implicated in terrorist activity hailing from countries including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Somalia, Sudan, Ghana and Saudi Arabia, to name a few. The risk is not limited to Syrian migration, but encompasses a wide-range of countries and the ever-present threat of post-entry radicalization.

Writing at Pew Research, Conrad Hackett offers us five interesting data-points regarding the Muslim population in Europe. It is especially relevant today, given the mass migration of Libyan, Syrian and other Islamic refugees into Eurasia.1. Germany and France have the largest Muslim populations among European Union member countries...

“Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life,” Trump said in a statement.
QOTD: "Let’s be very, very clear: the Founding Fathers would have been appalled by the 2013 ordinance [banning semiautomatic assault weapons and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition] passed by Highland Park, and if the Founders were alive today, there is a good chance that Highland Park’s leaders would have been roughly pulled from their homes and tarred and feathered in disgrace before their homes were burned to ash. Men like Jefferson and Adams were patriots who had just won a long and costly war that was triggered by a gun control raid on April 19, 1775 in the towns of Lexington and Concord, and did not suffer fools.
Unfortunately, the Robert’s court is feckless and craven. They passed on hearing the case because they know that if they took it up, they must overturn it. Once they overturned it, the precedent would once and for all gut the basis of all assault weapons bans on any level of government, henceforth." --Bob Owens
Senators Kelly Ayotte (R – N.H.) and Mark Kirk (R – Ill.) expressed their concern on Tuesday regarding the White House’s lack of response to the two reported ballistic missile tests Iran carried out since the nuclear deal was announced.
In a letter sent to President Barack Obama, the senators wrote that “it is not clear” that the administration took any steps to confront Iran following the launch of a ballistic missile in October, and inquired about plans to address Iran’s latest test, reportedly carried out last month.
The terrorist couple from San Bernardino and their mother had stickers and certificates of appreciation for membership in the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) in New York, a group with known ties to terrorist organizations, and a group whose members and speakers have included Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, and Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical preacher who had significant ties with three of the 9/11 hijackers.
FBI Director James Comey said Wednesday that Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, began scheming to carry out a terror attack long before they were engaged and before she moved to the United States on a fiancee visa last year…
Moreover, Rubio’s views on foreign policy are also more in line with McCain-Graham pseudo-conservativism. It is a kind of naïve and radical interventionism, involving endless demands for American ground forces, that President Ronald Reagan would never have supported – and did not. For example, Rubio’s support for the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi, joining with Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and, of course, McCain and Graham, has not led to democracy. Instead, Libya has become another extremely dangerous and growing stronghold for Islamic terrorists and a direct threat to our country. “Democracy projects” have also led to the overthrow of the Shah of Iran during Jimmy Carter’s presidency, ushering in the current Islamic terrorist state that directly threatens America, as well as the more recent rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, which was eventually ousted by the Egyptian military, and so forth. Democracy requires more than an election. It requires, first and foremost, a civil society. I’ve talked about this a great length on my radio program.
But my commentary here is not intended as a thorough analysis of immigration and foreign policies, which may come in a later essay. This is a friendly warning to Marco Rubio and his campaign donors, advisers, and consultants that they cannot wash away some of Rubio’s less than stellar legislative actions and related positions and pronouncements by embracing and unleashing Saul Alinsky-type tactics against Ted Cruz or other conservatives. Such unprincipled ambition has not and will not go unnoticed by conservatives.
