FINALLY: “As of today, we are officially putting Iran on notice"

Who'd have thunk it? After eight interminably long years, we finally have a real life, actual, pro-American President.

...national security adviser Michael Flynn [announced today] that the U.S. is “officially putting Iran on notice.”

“There are a large number of options available to the administration. We are going to take appropriate action and I will not provide any further information today relative to that question,” a senior administration official told reporters... “The important thing here is we are communicating that Iranian behavior needs to be rethought by Tehran.”

QOTD: "One can only imagine the widespread media, political, and intellectual condemnation of Republicans and conservatives if, after the inauguration of President Barack Obama, they had gone on a violent and vicious tear all over the nation as did Democrats and liberals after the inauguration of President Donald Trump.

They committed acts such as assaulting Trump supporters, setting fires, and stoning police.

Suppose Republicans/conservatives had carried signs that read “F— Obama” or talked about “blowing up the White House.” The news media, instead of calling them protesters, would have labeled them evil racists, obstructionists, and everything else... The reason for the difference in treatment is simple. Republicans and conservatives are held—and hold themselves—to higher standards of behavior. By contrast, Democrats and liberals are held—and hold themselves—to less civilized standards of behavior." --Walter E. Williams

Judge Neil Gorsuch: A Worthy Heir to Justice Scalia

From NRO: "A Worthy Successor to Antonin Scalia".

Gorsuch is an originalist, as represented by this paragraph:
Judges should instead strive (if humanly and so imperfectly) to apply the law as it is, focusing backward, not forward, and looking to text, structure, and history to decide what a reasonable reader at the time of the events in question would have understood the law to be — not to decide cases based on their own moral convictions or the policy consequences they believe might serve society best. As Justice Scalia put it, “if you’re going to be a good and faithful judge, you have to resign yourself to the fact that you’re not always going to like the conclusions you reach. If you like them all the time, you’re probably doing something wrong.”

EXHIBIT 16 QUADRILLION AND 42: Why Donald Trump Is President

By Lawrence Sellin

In a recent interview with The New York Times, Steve “Darth Vader” Bannon, Chief Strategist and Senior Counselor to the President, said:

“The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”

I would add to that the Democratic and Republican party leadership.

QOTD: "The executive order Trump signed Friday afternoon instituted a 90-day suspension of immigrants from countries listed by the Obama administration as having a significant foreign terrorist organization presence. The reason is to give relevant agencies the breathing room to review their procedures and make sure that "adequate standards are established to prevent infiltration by foreign terrorists or criminals."

The order also suspends the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program for 120 days, giving Homeland Security and the Director of National Intelligence time to "determine what additional procedures should be taken" to make sure that terrorists aren't slipping in under the guise of refugees — a legitimate concern. It also sets a slightly lower 50,000 cap on refugees for this year than has been in effect over the past decade.

Trump's actions should not have come as a surprise to anyone who was paying even the slightest attention to the presidential campaign." --Investors Business Daily

ANALYSIS: TRUE. Is Google News Suppressing Center-Right News Sites?

The big story this evening is the fact that President Trump has fired the acting Attorney General, a far Left Obama holdover.

Her dismissal was well-deserved, given the fact that she ordered the Justice Department to ignore the Commander-In-Chief's entirely legal order, one similar to bans enacted by Presidents Obama and Carter.

But I was fascinated to see the Google News coverage of the event.

Check out the top story this evening:

GRAPHIC: Comparison of Number of Cabinet Nominees Confirmed by Senate

Once again, just when you thought Democrats couldn't go any lower, they begin excavating another sub-basement, Comet Pizza-style.

A quick comparison of President Donald Trump with his Democrat predecessors shows that his nominees are not being treated with the same courtesy that both Bill Clinton & Barack Obama received in the aftermath of their swearing-in.

Scenes from a Sanctuary City

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel recently pledged that "Chicago will always be a sanctuary city."

Perhaps the mayor could take time from his busy schedule of photo-ops and speechifying to investigate some of the root causes for rampant (and record-setting) gang violence in his city. In January alone, 51 people have been murdered and 246 wounded in what are predominantly a running series of gang conflicts. Last year, nearly 800 people were murdered in the city and roughly 5,000 wounded.

In fact, I'm guessing any real investigation would quickly reveal a significant element of these gangs are dominated by illegal aliens, from MS-13 to the Latin Kings and everything in between.

While I can't say whether all of the following fine looking men and women are illegal aliens, some of the facial paintery would appear to indicate that a decent percentage are*.

We know that terrorists are trying to infiltrate the ranks of refugees and other visitors. We know that immigrants from Somalia, for example, have launched jihadist attacks here at home and have sought to leave the U.S. to join ISIS.

Indeed, given the terrible recent track record of completed and attempted terror attacks by Muslim immigrants, it’s clear that our current approach is inadequate to control the threat. Unless we want to simply accept Muslim immigrant terror as a fact of American life, a short-term ban on entry from problematic countries combined with a systematic review of our security procedures is both reasonable and prudent." --David French

LATEST DEMOCRAT TANTRUM: Trump Immigration Orders Make America Less Safe or Something

By William Teach

What Mr. Trump should have done was sign an order resettling all of the Muslim “refugees” in rich, liberal-populated areas and near Democrat Party lawmakers' homes. Not just liberal cities, but near the posh areas.

It would have been interesting to see how Democrats would have objected. Instead, we end up with this bit by former Obama flunky David Benjamin:

IN LESS THAN A WEEK: POTUS Enacts 6 of the Top 10 Immigration Enforcement Actions

By Roy Beck

As the Trump Administration rolled out the new orders on immigration enforcement yesterday, we at NumbersUSA noticed a lot of very familiar ideas.

They were on our list of the 10 most important actions needed to reduce the current and future illegal population of the country. We assembled the list last summer. We looked over the dozens of actions that would be helpful and chose 10. We then arranged them in order of which ones would have the most impact on the reduction.

First, here is the statement I put out to the nation's news media yesterday:

MEXICO HARDEST HIT: Hey, It Turns Out Trump Wasn't Kidding About That Wall!

By Matthew Vadum

Blasting President Donald Trump for his Twitter-based demands that Mexico free up the pesos needed to build a U.S.-Mexico border wall, President Enrique Peña Nieto abruptly pulled out of a planned summit with Trump.

Answering Trump in kind, the Mexican head of state tweeted midday Thursday in Spanish, "We have informed the White House that I will not attend the working meeting planned for next Tuesday with @POTUS[.]"

The previous night Peña Nieto had reiterated his government’s opposition both to the wall and to his country paying for it. "I regret and reject the decision of the United States to continue building a wall that, far from uniting, divides us," he tweeted according to an apparently reliable English translation.

In an unprecedented round of refreshingly transparent social media diplomacy, Trump, the master negotiator, published two tweets baiting his Mexican counterpart:

QOTD: "The best study on the subject — a study that meets the Daubert standards for admissible evidence in a jury trial in a legal courtroom — provides substantial evidence that non-citizen voting alone likely reached over a million in this election. A trio of well-regarded scholars used scientifically approved methods to study the question of non-citizen voting in federal elections. The result of their study published in one of the best-regarded peer-review political science journals, Electoral Studies. The evidence from their study suggested upwards of 10% of non-citizens voted in 2008; given the issues implicated in this election, a higher number would be a reasonable inference for a jury to conclude. Given the increase in non-citizen members of the population, the same study’s conclusions would project out to millions of illegal votes from non-citizen voters in this election." --Robert Barnes

The Remains

I fell asleep on a plane and dreamed this short story. I beg your indulgence.

David Miller was at his desk. The forecast was clear – an Indian Summer day – and he hoped to cut out of the office early and get home in time for Rachel’s soccer game. There was nothing funnier than watching a group of seven-year-old girls play soccer. One or two might get the idea, but most of them carefully circled the ball like a terrified school of fish. They moved slowly, in a symbiotic group, never making physical contact with anything.

His heart had swollen almost to bursting when Rachel had scored her first goal. In front of the opponent’s goalie, her tiny frame had suddenly appeared with a rebound and he had willed her to kick the ball in. When the white sphere came to rest in the back of the netting, he had jumped with fists raised, as though he was a benchwarmer for an NCAA team that had just clinched the championship.
