The day your neighborhood is overrun by a vicious gang
Elan Journo: With or Without Nukes, Iran Is a Mortal Threat.
Imagine that your neighborhood is overrun by a gang. These brutes are wielding crowbars, knives, and pistols in a frenzied spree of home break-ins and mugging and murder. Now suppose the police reveal that their grand strategy for dealing with this gang is to block them from getting submachine guns--as if without such weapons, the gang would no longer bother people.
Would you sleep soundly at night?
Or would you be outraged? Of course you would, because this gang--even without more powerful weapons--is already a serious menace that must be stopped.
Now, what would you say if this ridiculous what-if scenario resembled our actual response to the very real threat from Iran?
Yep.
Read it now.
AFP's exclusive new photo of Iran's missile launch
Yesterday Charles Johnson discovered that photos of Iran's missile launches had been doctored. Unfortunately Fox News, the New York Times and the Washington Post failed to credit him with the discovery, and instead left it up to various commenters.
Not to be outdone, Agency France Presse (AFP) just released a new photo of a devastating Iranian missile test that is certain to rattle nerves throughout the Middle East.

ABC's Radatz: a careful balance between left and further left
RWD:
My niece, Katelyn, stationed at Baluud , Iraq was assigned, with others of her detachment, to be escort/guard/watcher for Martha Raddatz of ABC News as she covered John McCain’s recent trip to Iraq.
Katelyn and her Captain stood directly behind Raddatz as she queried GI’s walking past. They kept count of the GI’s and you should remember these numbers. She asked 60 GI’s who they planned to vote for in November. 54 said John McCain, 4 for Obama, and 2 for Hillary.Katelyn called home and told her Mom and Dad to watch ABC news the next night because she was standing directly behind Raddatz and maybe they’d see her on TV. Mom and Dad of course, called and emailed all the kinfolk to watch the newscast and maybe see Katelyn.
Well, of course, we all watched and what we saw wasn’t a glimpse of Katelyn, but got a hell’uva view of skewed news. After a dissertation on McCain’s trip and speech, ABC showed 5 GI’s being asked by Raddatz how they were going to vote in November; 3 for Obama and 2 for Clinton... No mention of the 54 for McCain.
Maybe it wasn't bias --- maybe they just randomly picked five out of the 60 who didn't favor McCain. Never mind the odds of that happening are roughly 1 in 100,000. It was just luck of the draw! Luck of the draw, I tell you!

Obama's Rose Law Firm Files
I've got my own suspicions, but judge for yourself.
Barack Obama has made some strange decisions regarding secrecy and records. His state legislative records are missing and may have been thrown out, there are questions about his answers to his application to the state bar (keep in mind the DSCC demanded George Allen release his in 2006), and he released a one-page letter from his doctor summarizing his medical history (contrasted with McCain allowing reporters to examine nearly 1,200 pages of health records). He and his former law firm say Obama only did a few hours of work for nonprofit firms connected to convicted donor Tony Rezko, but no records have been released to confirm that.
Obama won't disclose his clients but the ones we know about, like Rezko, are as harsh an indictment of the candidate's judgment as you can imagine.
The backstory on Rezko and Obama:
In 1993 Obama found employment with the Chicago law firm Davis Miner Barnhill, which represented developers who built low-income housing with government funds. In 1995 one of the firm's clients -- the Woodlawn Preservation and Investment Corporation (WPIC) -- partnered with Rezmar Corporation in a project to convert an abandoned nursing home into low-income apartments. Obama was instrumental in helping Rezmar Corporation and WPIC strike their deal. Rezmar Corporation would also partner with WPIC clients in four later deals.
When Obama announced in 1995 that he was running for an Illinois Senate seat (which would be up for grabs in 1996), two of Tony Rezko’s companies donated a total of $2,000 to Obama’s campaign. Over the course of the entire primary season, Rezko raised between $10,000 and $15,000 of the roughly $100,000 Obama collected overall. Obama won the November 1996 election, and the district he represented included 11 of Rezko's 30 low-income housing projects.
Rezko served on the campaign committee for Obama’s failed congressional run against U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush in 2000, raising between $50,000 and $75,000 of the estimated $600,000 Obama collected for that race... In 2001 Rezko’s Rezmar Corporation stopped making its mortgage payments on the old nursing home it had converted into apartments, and the state of Illinois foreclosed on the building, which was located in Obama's Senate district.
In January 2008, the Washington Post reported:
Obama has denied doing any legal work directly for Rezko or his companies. During Monday night's debate, he said that he had done "about five hours worth of work" on a joint real estate development project involving Rezko and a Chicago church group...
...Obama's former supervisor at the law firm, William Miceli, said that the firm represented a non-profit group called the Woodlawn Preservation and Investment Corporation which redeveloped a run-down property on Chicago's South Side jointly with Rezko. He described Clinton's assertion that Obama represented Rezko in a slum landlord business as "categorically untrue."
Given that Obama's firm represented "developers who built low-income housing with government funds" -- like Rezko -- it's easy to imagine that the great community organizer was more entwined with sleaze than macrame dipped in manure. And that's precisely why he's hiding those records.

Wesley Clark: the Keith Olbermann of failed politicians
Remember Wesley Clark's comments denigrating John McCain's service about a week ago?
Gen. Wesley Clark, acting as a surrogate for Barack Obama’s campaign, invoked John McCain’s military service against him in one of the more personal attacks on the Republican presidential nominee this election cycle... Clark said that McCain lacked the executive experience necessary to be president, calling him “untested and untried” on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” And in saying so, he took a few swipes at McCain’s military service....he hasn't held executive responsibility. That large squadron in the Navy that he commanded — that wasn't a wartime squadron,” Clark said.
“I don’t think getting in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to become president.”
Wesley Clark thinks that the Democratic candidate is more qualified than John McCain. Is that because of Barack Obama's incredible success as a state senator and as a "community organizer"?
Hold up. Let's rewind just a few months.
[Wesley Clark argues] that Hillary Clinton does have the right experience. That’s right. Wesley Clark claims that the type of military experience that John McCain has - 22 years in the Navy completing his career as a field grade officer, plus more than two decades on the Senate Armed Services Committee - doesn’t qualify him to be commander in chief of the U.S. Armed Forces. He goes on to explain how Hillary’s experience better qualifies her. Really. I am not making this up.Wes Clark is arguing that eight years as first lady beats McCain. He states her time as First Lady “plus her years in the Senate” uniquely qualify her. But wait, John McCain has three times as many years in the Senate as Hillary so that part of her resume is less qualifying than that of McCain. So it must be her time as first lady that gives her the experience that trumps McCain’s more than two decades as a Naval Officer and experience as a combat veteran. Really.
Really.
Update: Jackalope has more on the Democratic war on the military.
Quote o' the day: "Wait for the wind!"
If you were fed up with our beloved Democratic Congress before, check out this quote (courtesy of Don Surber and Larwyn):
Democratic congressional aide: "Right now, our strategy on gas prices is 'Drive small cars and wait for the wind'."
That's the quote from the Hill article on the Congressional Democrats's plan for tamping down $4 gasoline.
They are clueless.
And drifting.
And offering no answers.
None.
...In 2006, it was Mark Foley and the congressional page that pushed the Republicans out of the House.
In 2008, it may be $4 gasoline that brings them back in.
Congressional Democrats, in the spirit of Marie Antoinette, just told all of us where to go.
"Let them eat wind."
Only 9% of Americans approve of the job this Democratic Congress is doing. It's the worst result of any Congress since, well, there were Congresses.
Is there an adjective that means "Worse than Incompetent"?
"Can the world afford to sit and wait for Armageddon?" "Yes, we can!"
If there's one article you read this month, Pajamas Media's exclusive interview is it. An Iranian -- who infiltrated the Revolutionary Guard for U.S. intelligence agencies -- has implicated Iran's mullahs in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. A bomb hidden in a suitcase exploded aboard the flight and killed 270 people. Among the dead were entire families and many children, including toddlers and babies. And now, he reports, they are well on their way to nuclear weapons and a man-made apocalypse.
The men who ordered the destruction of the Pan Am flight over Lockerbie and the bombings of the Marine Corps barracks in Lebanon, the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, and the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia are pursuing the nuclear program in Iran and with one goal in mind: to obtain The Bomb.
And they want to destroy you.
After the Iranian Revolution, I was an officer in the Revolutionary Guards. I was also a spy... [and had] access to the Khomeini regime’s deep secrets and a firsthand look at the unfolding horror: torture, rapes, executions, assassinations, suicide bombers, training of terrorists, and the transfer of arms and explosives to other countries to support terrorist attacks. I risked my life and my family’s trying to expose this regime because I believed it should be stopped. Once again I incur such risks to bring awareness that lack of action endangers the world....Tehran knows full well it is in a race, and if it is able to perfect the technology, the West will have no choice but to live with a nuclear Iran. It also believes that after the current President Bush, the next U.S. administration (if led by a Democrat) will most likely reduce forces and slowly move out, leaving it for the Iraqis to sort things out, which ultimately will result in Iran’s domination of the region, with catastrophic consequences for the Free World. This has already happened with Hezbollah. Iran armed and trained Hezbollah into a political force in Lebanon which controls events on the ground, limiting the power of the Lebanese government and even confronting Israel as we saw in the 2006 Lebanon war...
...Iran’s current defense minister, Mostafa Najjar, was in charge of the Revolutionary Guards forces in Lebanon that facilitated the attack on the Marine Corps barracks in Beirut on Oct. 23, 1983, killing 241 U.S. servicemen with the largest non-nuclear bomb in history. The current deputy defense minister, Ahmad Vahidi... is currently on Interpol’s Most Wanted List for the attack on the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires on July 18, 1994. That attack killed 87 and injured more than 100...
...The most radical Islamists control the government in Iran. The Revolutionary Guards’ reach is all-encompassing: they control the vital industries in Iran, serve as ministers in President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s cabinet, are members of the Parliament, control events in Iraq, Lebanon and the Palestinian Territory through their Quds Force, and expand their terror network throughout the world, all the while making inroads in nuclear enrichment and missile-delivery technology.
...It is not an exaggeration to claim that the radicals belonging to the secretive society called “Hojjatieh,” who are devoted to the 12th Imam, have taken control of all vital positions in Iran. Ayatollah Janati, the head of the Guardian Council in charge of interpreting the constitution, supervising elections, and approving of candidates running for public office, has been very vocal about his opposition to the West: “We are anti-American and we are America’s enemy,” and “Non-Muslims are animals roaming the planet.” They believe that the 12th Imam supports their agenda of obtaining nuclear weapons and destroying Israel in order to start the chaos necessary for the final destruction of what they see as American imperialism and Israeli Zionism...
...Khamenei put out a statement to the world in 2008 that God would punish Iranians if they did not support the country's disputed nuclear program, and any stop in the continuation of the nuclear work would be against God's will. Ahmadinejad, in a recent 2008 speech, told the audience that the "enemy" (referring to the U.S. and Israel) and their superficial power are on a path to destruction, and that the countdown to their total destruction has begun....
The rulers in Iran believe it is their duty to prepare the circumstances for the reappearance of the 12th Imam. "Our Revolution's main mission is to pave the way for the reappearance of the 12th Imam, Imam Mahdi," Ahmadinejad said during a speech in 2005 to leaders from across the country. Shiites believe the reappearance of the 12th Imam will bring justice and peace to the world by establishing Islam throughout the world. They believe he will reappear when the world has fallen into chaos...
...It is believed the chaos will start in Afghanistan and then move into Iraq, where there will be blood and destruction everywhere (already in the works) and from there to the world with burning dark clouds (nuclear war). The 12th Imam will then come to destroy the "Dajjal," the False Messiah, free the world from oppression and aggression, and then bring justice where it will be heaven on earth for many years to come. It is said Jesus will reappear at the same time and fight alongside Mahdi.
Members of the Iranian leadership say they have a "signed contract" with the 12th Imam and are doggedly pursuing nuclear weapons to bring on that catastrophe. Iran's president, Ahmadinejad, has said that Israel must be destroyed (2005 "World without Zionism" speech, "Israel must be wiped off the map"). This is no idle threat...
[They believe] in Islam's conquest of the world through the coming of the 12th Imam mandates their actions, and — just as a suicide bomber — they are not even interested in their own survival and cannot be diverted from their chosen path. The question is: Can the world afford to sit idly by and wait for Armageddon?
If you're a "progressive", the answer to that question is "yes, we can!"

The BMW M-fighter from Lexus: the F
Deriving its name from Toyota's original code for the Lexus brand, the new IS-F harnesses 416 horsepower and reports a 4.6 0-60.
...the Lexus team unveiled their new black sheep at Laguna Seca racetrack. There, it took about, oh, two or three turns to realize the Nrburgring-tuned IS F is going to make serious trouble for the likes of the new BMW M3, the Audi RS4, and the Mercedes C63 AMG. The car is, quite simply, a monster: Acceleration is brutal, the brakes are wicked-strong, and handling grip is immense
Perhaps the F stands for Fire-breather. Or maybe Lexus is secretly dropping the F-bomb on BMW.

Larwyn's Link Kerplosion: Total FARC!
• Jeff G. of Protein Wisdom reacts to news that Saddam Hussein had 550 metric tons of Uranium, all of which was successfully transported to Canada.
Now, before you dull, neocon chickenhawk dupes (whose gullibility encouraged smarter and more discriminating Dem congresspeople to set aside their concerns and their principles and vote us overwhelmingly into a fake war based on the lying lies of lying liars who lied) get to feeling all vindicatey, please note that yellowcake itself — even 550 metric tons of the stuff — is not, without further enrichment, capable of causing anything more than a panic. And Saddam was far too busy writing romance novels and terrorizing Kurds and Marsh Arabs to even dream about further enriching the stuff.
My guess? He was just keeping it around in case Joe Wilson ever lipped off to him. Then he’d be all like, “you’ve been punk’d!”
So, you know, no harm, no foul.
In fact, I’m not sure what business it is of ours to worry about such a benign stockpile of harmless fluff. Perhaps if we spent less time removing 550 metric tons of yellowcake from the middle east and more time concentrating on the global warming climate change crisis and the rising cost of oil (and no, advocating for additional drilling, new refineries, and nuclear energy do NOT count as viable methods of amelioration, you greedy earth-gorging eco-robber barons), poor people who don’t give a flying fig about Iraq wouldn’t be forced to buy sub-standard arugula on theblackmarket of color.
