Is Sarkozy The New Thatcher?
Dan from New York writes:
At last Thursday's Security Council meeting hosted by Obama, French President Sarkozy contradicted, if not mocked, Obama's utopian call for universal nuclear disarmament. Oddly enough, Sarkozy's remarkable retort went virtually unreported by America's Axelrod-run media but did show up last week in Canada's National Post (since pulled from their website) and the UK's Daily Telegraph.
Obama: "We must never stop until we see the day when nuclear arms have been banished from the face of the earth."Sarkozy: "We live in the real world, not the virtual world. And the real world expects us to take decisions."
"President Obama dreams of a world without weapons … but right in front of us two countries are doing the exact opposite."
"Iran since 2005 has flouted five security council resolutions. North Korea has been defying council resolutions since 1993."
"I support the extended hand of the Americans, but what good has proposals for dialogue brought the international community? More uranium enrichment and declarations by the leaders of Iran to wipe a UN member state off the map," he continued, referring to Israel.
The sharp-tongued French leader even implied that Mr. Obama’s resolution 1887 had used up valuable diplomatic energy.
"If we have courage to impose sanctions together it will lend viability to our commitment to reduce our own weapons and to making a world without nuke weapons," he said.
Mr. Sarkozy has previously called the US president’s disarmament crusade "naive."
Did you ever think you'd live to see the day when a French leader would lecture an American president on "courage"? Will Canada be the next to say "don't go wobbly on us, BHO"?

The Curious Case of the Four Edited Videotapes
Using Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, an attorney has secured access to security tapes that depict the aftermath of the 1995 Oklahoma City federal building bombing. The Oklahoman reports that Jesse Trentadue of Salt Lake City gave copies of the tapes to the newspaper as well as the AP.
The FBI and Attorney General Janet Reno had refused to release the videotapes, which led many to speculate that they confirmed the existence of "a third terrorist", reports of which had circulated for years. The tapes turned over by the FBI came from security cameras various companies had mounted outside office buildings near the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. They are blank at points before 9:02 a.m., when a truck bomb carrying a 4,000 pound (1,815 kilogram) fertilizer-and-fuel-oil bomb detonated in front of the building, Trentadue said.
"Four cameras in four different locations going blank at basically the same time on the morning of April 19, 1995. There ain't no such thing as a coincidence," [Attorney] Trentadue said...
..."The interesting thing is they spring back on after 9:02," he said. "The absence of footage from these crucial time intervals is evidence that there is something there that the FBI doesn't want anybody to see."
Trentadue said he is seeking more tapes along with a variety of bombing-related documents from the FBI and the CIA. An FOIA request by Trentadue for 26 CIA documents was rejected in June. A letter from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, which reviewed the documents, said their release "could cause grave damage to our national security."
Earlier today, Bob McCarty interviewed Jayna Davis, an author and investigative journalist who had written extensively on the Oklahoma City bombing. At the time of the devastating attack, Davis was an award-winning investigative journalist for NBC affiliate KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City. Davis was the first to uncover reports of a "third terrorist" -- a man of Middle East origin who allegedly helped orchestrate the attack. Her subsequent book on the subject became a New York Times bestseller.
In the book, Davis presents an immense body of evidence that a former Iraqi soldier named al-Husseini -- probably a member of Saddam Hussein's elite Republican Gaurd -- helped plan and execute the bombing. Extensive interviews support the contention that other Iraqis collaborated to assist in the attack. Lest you think Davis is just a lone crackpot, the former chief counsel of the House Judiciary Committee, the House Terrorism Office's chief and a former Clinton CIA director all agree that this evidence must be pursued further.
Using information provided by 23 eye-witnesses, affidavits (depositions taken under oath) and several senior intelligence officials, Davis builds a case for a significant cover-up.And why would the Clinton administration suppress evidence of an Iraqi link to a terrorist attack on the heartland? We obviously can't know all of the answers, but the administration's famous aversion to risk might explain a great deal.
Consider Clinton's treatment of terrorism as a law enforcement issue, beginning in 1993 with the first World Trade Center attack. An attack by Iraq would have devastated Janey Reno's "lawfare" approach to Islamic terrorism and have forced a military response.
It is hard to overstate the implications of these developments. Why did the FBI refuse, for over a decade, to release the security tapes? Why are the tapes all missing segments just before and during the catastrophic explosion?
Kudos to Jesse Trentadue, Jayna Davis and Bob McCarty for calling attention to a forgotten tragedy -- and the ominous implications of a few minutes of missing videotape.

Guess who's still on the list of 'HUD Approved Housing Counseling Agencies'?
As of September 28, 2009, the Department of Housing and Urban Development still lists ACORN as one its "HUD Approved Housing Counseling Agencies."
Today, one of ACORN's biggest corporate partners -- Bank of America -- announced that it has "suspended current commitments" to Acorn Housing and "will not enter into any further agreements with Acorn or any of its affiliates" pending a review.
It's bad enough that ACORN has received the fourth-most taxpayer money -- roughly $25 million -- since late 2007 for distressed mortgage borrowers. It's an absolute disgrace they're still permitted to receive any funds from taxpayers -- through HUD or anyone else.

Clinton: Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy Still Exists, But Not 'Vast' Anymore
President Bill Clinton's wife earned notoriety by claiming that a "vast right-wing conspiracy" had orchestrated allegations of his adultery.
The ex-president is back in the spotlight after a visit to Meet the Press earlier today.
[He] told NBC's David Gregory... that the so-called "vast right-wing conspiracy" still exists and is "as virulent as it was," but has had its impact diminished by the nation's changing demographics.
"...It's not as strong as it was, because America has changed demographically. But it's as virulent as it was. I mean, they're saying things about him. You know, it's like when they accused me of murder, and all that stuff they did. … But … it's not really good for the Republicans and the country, what's going on now. I mean, they may be hurting President Obama. They can take his numbers down. They can run his opposition up. But, fundamentally, he and his team have a positive agenda for America. Their agenda seems to be wanting him to fail."
Vast right-wing conspiracy?
But I thought it was racism.
Or Karl Rove.
Or Glenn Beck.
Or the Tea Partiers.
Hey, Bill. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Chosen One got 52.7% of the vote. He outspent a weak GOP candidate -- "Mumbles" McCain -- by half-a-billion dollars. He had a cool logo designed by the NEA. He promised a post-partisan world of transparency and Utopian change. He had a great speaking voice. He read from a teleprompter better than Brian Williams. And he barely won.
Don't look now, Cigar-master, but the 2010 midterms are just around the corner. And I'm guessing we'll see real change.
Keith Olbermann's doing football highlights on NBC?
It's 6pm central time on a Sunday. Time to flip on the NFL highlights in high-def. Unfortunately, I selected the first pro football channel that came up. It was NBC.
Greeted with the discomfiting visage and intonation of Keith "Strap-On" Olbermann, I reflexively jammed the speed-dial for SportsCenter.
Ahhh, much better.I wonder if Nielsen could tell the geniuses at NBC just how much advertising money they're hemorrhaging using a despicable partisan hack on their football broadcasts. I'll bet it's in the tens of millions of dollars.
Update: BlackFive: "Boot Olbermann."
Bruce Bartlett: Dead Wrong on Tax Hikes
Bruce Bartlett is a Republican economist who served in the Reagan and Bush 41 administrations. While his history is that of a supply-sider, his recent writings -- including a column for this month's Forbes ("Fiscal Responsibility Requires Higher Taxes") -- indicate Bartlett has fully detached himself from reality.
Even with the economy flat on its back, Bartlett advocates raising taxes. What Bartlett fails to take into account, like so many misguided souls, is that economics is not a zero-sum game. Consider the following chart that compares historical tax rates to federal revenues as a percentage of GDP:
Put simply, raising taxes simply disincents productivity, drives businesses offshore and reduces innovation.Barlett also gives currency to the preposterous notion of a Clinton-inspired economic boom.
During Bill Clinton's administration, Democratic economists got religion on deficits. They believe that his 1993 tax increase sparked an economic boom.
Bartlett and the "Democrat economists" assert that some sort of magical policy measure, orchestrated by Bill Clinton, resulted in huge value creation and attendant economic growth. These pundits -- and many others -- have forgotten two tiny, inconsequential drivers of the stock market during the Clinton years:
First, Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Freaking Web.
Second, another immense boost to the economy was delivered by the "Year 2000" computer remediation effort (or "Y2K"). A huge repair investment -- estimated at between $300 billion to $500 billion -- occurred in the late nineties as governments and companies rushed to make their computer systems "Y2K-compliant."
Any serious observer recognizes that the economic surge of the nineties was the result of the invention of the web along with the Y2K remediation effort. These events had about as much to do with Clinton's stewardship of the economy as I have responsibility for the invention of the Fudgsicle ®.
Put simply, a trained dolphin could have been President during the late 90's tech boom. Come to think of it, even a philandering, disbarred former attorney who sold missile secrets to the Chinese for campaign donations while allowing terrorists to relentlessly attack U.S. interests could have been President.
Bartlett continues:
Everyone knows that fiscal discipline must be restored eventually, or we will face truly horrifying consequences--defaulting on the debt, nonpayment of Social Security benefits, a collapsing dollar, and double-digit inflation and interest rates. Everyone also knows that this will involve a combination of higher revenues and lower spending. The idea that we can restore fiscal health only with spending cuts is childish...
Cutting hundreds of billions in outlays can be accomplished easily. There is no need for HUD. For the Departments of Education, Labor, Commerce, the EPA and a myriad of other bureaucracies that arose in the wake of the New Deal and Carter-era radicalism.
Reducing taxes increases risk-taking, entrepreneurship and innovation. It promotes capitalism and free trade. It spurs hiring, grows new industries from whole cloth and improves the quality of life for all.
Reducing taxes while slashing spending on needless bureaucracies is a necessity for the country's economic health. It's a pity that a former Reagan-ite like Bartlett seems to have forgotten this crucial lesson.

Bush erroneously says Iran announced desire for nuclear weapons
March 20, 2008: President Bush contended that Iran has "declared they want a nuclear weapon to destroy people" and that the Islamic Republic could be hiding a secret program. Iran, however, has never publicly proclaimed a desire for nuclear weapons and has repeatedly insisted that the uranium enrichment program it'soperating in defiance of U.N. Security Council resolutions is for civilian power plants, not warheads...
Bush Lies about Iran on Now-Ruz
March 21, 2008: On Thursday, Bush lied about Iran again: "President Bush said the Iranian government has "declared they want to have a nuclear weapon to destroy people . . ." The Iranian leaders have consistently condemned nuclear weapons as inhumane and denounced them and said that they don't want them and it would be illegal in Islamic law to use them...NIE Report on Iran Contradicts Bush Claims
December 3, 2007: A new U.S. intelligence report on Iran says that Tehran may be able to develop a nuclear weapon between 2010 and 2015. But the National Intelligence Estimate finds that Iran halted its nuclear weapons development program in the fall of 2003 due to international pressure — contradicting claims by the Bush administration...

I suppose it’s possible that opposition to the federal government’s annexation of one-sixth of the U.S. economy is being driven by nostalgia for segregated lunch counters. And no doubt, if you write for the New York Times or teach race and gender studies at American colleges for long enough, it seems entirely reasonable, listening to a patient profess satisfaction with her present health insurance arrangements, to respond, “You know, if you re-sewed the back of that hospital gown so your ass wasn’t showing, your Klan sheet would be as good as new.”
Thus, Melissa Harris-Lacewell, professor of African-American studies at Princeton, was invited on to National Public Radio to expound on the use of “racial code words” in “the current opposition to health care reform.” For example, explained professor Harris-Lacewell, “language of personal responsibility is often a code language used against poor and minority communities.”

What's your call: Audi RS 8 5.2 Quattro vs. Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing
You make the call. This:
2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro: "...giving the R8 more power — about the only area where the car could be considered lacking — was literally as easy as dropping in the direct-injected 5.2-liter V-10 from the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, that 552-bhp powerplant a descendant of the FSI V-10s Audi designed for the S6 and S8 sports sedans in late 2006. The main differences between the Gallardo and R8 engines lie in engine mapping and intake and exhaust tuning, which result in 525 bhp (DIN) and 391 lb.-ft. of torque, making the R8 5.2 the most powerful Audi production car ever..."
...Or this:
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing: "Under the SLS AMG's long hood is a version of the V-8 that we've seen powering every Merc of this generation with an AMG badge--although, this time the engine actually displaces 6.3-liters. Output has been tuned to 563 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque..."

Five Questions for NBC and Jane Stone, regarding BlackBerry-Gate
In case you missed the NBC scandal that erupted last night, the following is a brief synopsis of the events, based upon reports filed at Big Government.
Step 1: NBC Dateline producer Jane Stone receives an email urging Congress to defund ACORN. The email was sent by Alex Rosenwald, director of media outreach for Americans for Limited Government (ALG).Step 2: Stone (or someone who had access to her BlackBerry) is alleged by ALG to have sent a four word reply to Rosenwald, namely, "Bite me, Jew Boy!"
Step 3: Writing in Politico, Michael Calderone relays a vehement denial from NBC News President Steve Capus, who said he was "outraged that this reckless organization would go out with such a defamatory, irresponsible statement... We have done a complete email analysis, all of our IT, all of our records."
Step 4: ALG promptly issues a press release asserting confirmation that their email system did indeed hold the original "Bite me" message seemingly sent from Stone's account.
Step 5: NBC hastily offered a caustic retort, stating that "Americans for Limited Government has chosen to launch an outrageous, reckless attack and smear campaign against an NBC News employee. Faced with irrefutable evidence that our employee did nothing more than ask to be removed from an email mailing list, the organization has maliciously published a fabricated email... Our employee never sent any such email... She is completely innocent of the outrageous charges and is being used by an organization to make a self-serving point..."
And that appears to be where we stand at the moment.
Several questions spring to mind, aimed at NBC management, which could be answered in minutes by their IT specialists:
1. Why has Ms. Stone not provided photographs of the BlackBerry showing her sent email?
2. Why has NBC not provided a copy of Ms. Stone's sent email complete with all mail headers?3. Why has NBC not provided a screencap of the Microsoft Exchange Administration Panel showing Ms. Stone's message?
4. Why has NBC not provided a snippet of its mail gateway server log for the email in question?
5. Why has NBC not provided a screencap of its data-loss prevention system, showing Ms. Stone's message?
Any one -- or, better yet, a combination of these would provide first-pass validation of NBC's position. I'm sure Chris Matthews (host of Screwball on Screwball) and Keith "Strap On" Olbermann (host of Countdown to No Ratings) will fully investigate Stone-gate for their respective Monday broadcasts.
Obama Lied, Your Coverage Died
In his September address to Congress, President Obama stated that if you "already have health insurance through your job, or Medicare, or Medicaid, or the VA, nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have."

Senator Orrin Hatch decided to have Democrats put their money where their mouths are by proposing the following amendment:
The purpose of this amendment is simple. If the secretary of Health and Human Services certifies that more than 1 million Americans would lose the current coverage of their choice because of this bill, then this bill would not go into effect.

The Democrats are perfectly well aware that millions of Americans will lose the coverage they have under their proposal, whatever form it finally takes. In fact, that's their objective: in the long run--President Obama has said it may take 10 to 20 years--they intend to force all of us to lose our private health care and be forced into a socialized medicine system.
I know it seems hard to believe, but Obama lied about your coverage. If this cluster**** passes, your plan is toast.
Analysts: Government borrowing will lead to 'Armageddon', 'Collapse of our Capitalistic System', '$5000 per ounce' gold
Financial gurus Henry Blodget, Marc Faber, Peter Schiff and Julian Robertson represent a wide spectrum of political opinion but are unified in their assessment of Democrat spending policies. Unprecedented government borrowing -- in a climate hostile to small business -- is hastening the "collapse" of capitalism.
Henry Blodget: "...the economy is being sustained by one huge borrower that is taking on debt faster than it has anytime since World War 2: The government. Government spending and government lending is REPLACING private spending and lending. And if it wasn't, the economy would have collapsed... The government can't keep borrowing like this forever, though, or we'll become Argentina. So the hope is that consumers and businesses will start borrowing BEFORE the government has to get itself under control. The history of financial crises suggests that this transition is unlikely to be smooth."
Marc Faber: "The future will be a total disaster, with a collapse of our capitalistic system as we know it today, wars, massive government debt defaults and the impoverishment of large segments of Western society."
Senate candidate Peter Schiff: "The worst is not over... the Dow will fall another 90% from current levels when measured against gold... gold [will hit] $5000 per ounce in the next couple of years..."
Julian Robertson: "You're in for some real rough sledding... we are borrowing so much money that we can't possibly pay it back... unless the Chinese and Japanese buy our bonds... it's tragic that we've let ourselves be put in this position... it's almost Armageddon if the Chinese and Japanese don't buy our debt. I don't know where we could get the money. And-- maybe we-- end up printing it-- and-- taking-- a million dollar bill-- bill to the grocery... which you have to do now in Zimbabwe. But I think we've let ourselves get in-- in [a] terrible situation... we're totally dependent on the Chinese and Japanese."These suicidal policies represent, as I have believed for some time now, an intentional attack on the backbone of world capitalism.
I mean, what else would you expect from a man raised by Communists, Marxists and grievance-mongers? A man who signed up with the Democrat Socialist New Party in 1995?A man who constantly demonizes and attacks both private enterprise and the profit motive -- including the financial services industry, the insurance industry and energy services for starters?
What else would you expect from a man who travels the world apologizing for America while promising unilateral disarmament? America -- the country that liberated tens of millions from the slavery of Nazism, Communism and Islamofascism? The country that has produced more good for humanity -- from lifesaving medical innovations to the Internet -- than any ten other countries combined?
Why would the President bumble around the world apologizing for the most humanitarian society the world has ever seen? Put simply, I think Barack Obama despises capitalism and wishes it dead. His agenda must be stopped in Congress, before it's too late.
