How bad was Obama's recycled mish-mash of a speech last night? So bad that even antique media panned it across the board.

QOTD: "When you are in a tight race with your political opponent, you should not recycle a Jobs Act speech that failed to even persuade Democrats in Congress to pass your signature re-election initiative...
But that’s what Barack Obama did. A day after Bill Clinton brought the house down, Barack Obama took to the stage and reduced, reused, and recycled old states of the union speeches that have failed him for four years...
This speech was unoriginal. He stacked it with straw men and ignored his own two major initiatives from the first term: Obamacare and the Stimulus.
This was a failure and you know it was because he failed to even bring up his own major initiatives. On Obamacare, he mentioned parts of it, but never defended it or referenced the “Affordable Care Act.”" --Erick Erickson

Surprise: Wisconsin sees improved revenues to state coffers while "tax the rich" California and Illinois continue to implode
Here's a question for you Democrats reading along -- albeit very slowly: when, in all of human history, has "taxing the rich" ever succeeded?
Don't worry, I'll wait here while you check.
In the mean time, please consider "Wisconsin's Economy Surging Without Tax Increases."
California and Illinois have taken an opposite tack: raise taxes on small businesses (you know, the evil "rich" who are generally small businesses that make over $200,000 in gross receipts and employ the lion's share of America's workers).
• In Illinois, even the left-wing rag The Stuffington Roast admits that Barack Obama's home state has the worst budget deficit in the land, totaling a stunning $43.8 billion, despite a massive 60 percent hike in personal income taxes.
• In California, the twice-failed Governor "Moonbeam" Brown is going for the trifecta. Despite massive tax hikes, the state is running a $6 billion annual deficit, its cities are declaring bankruptcy one after another, and the state pension system is in critical condition, having been raped by the malevolent, corrupt alliance of Democrats and their public sector union cronies.
So we know for a fact that raising taxes on "the rich" won't work. Yet Democrats -- without a shred of evidence -- continue to push for their destructive class warfare strategy. They know it won't work, which leads me to believe they are bound and determined to bring America to its economic knees.
The proper term for their deviant game-plan is "The Cloward-Piven Strategy". It's not a conspiracy theory. It's very real. And it's pure evil.
Don't worry, I'll wait here while you check.
In the mean time, please consider "Wisconsin's Economy Surging Without Tax Increases."
The day after the nation's debt surpassed $16 trillion, Wisconsin officials announced their state took in more tax revenue than expected -- without raising taxes.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, tax collections increased 4.7 percent in fiscal year 2012 to $13.5 billion, beating the ... Legislative Fiscal Bureau’s February estimate by $320 million.
The MacIver Institute notes that when Gov. Scott Walker came into office in January of 2011, Wisconsin faced a $3.6 billion deficit.
After Walker’s reforms, especially those concerning public sector unions, and spending cuts, Wisconsin started going down the path toward fiscal solvency.

Instant fact-check: Bill Clinton's assertion that no one could fix the economy in only four years
Is he a liar, just ignorant, or all of the above? Hint for you drones reading along -- moving your lips, no doubt -- that's a rhetorical question.
Ronald Reagan inherited a far worse economic crisis: double-digit inflation, double-digit unemployment, an energy crisis, a Soviet Union on the rise and an Iranian hostage crisis.
But he actually knew what he was doing. And -- strangely -- it was the complete opposite of Obama's agenda that includes punishing small business owners, restricting access to energy, killing our manned space program, and devastating our national security posture.

Democrat Panderfest Hits Another New Low: Illegal Alien to Speak at DNC, Presumably to Recruit More Illegal Voters
I'm just wondering: which laws do Democrats believe should be enforced -- and which ones should be ignored? That's a rhetorical question. We know that any laws are optional if they help Democrats retain their white-knuckled death grip on the reins of power.
As Frederic Bastiat wrote in his seminal work The Law:
The Democrat Party's wanton usurpation of the law to pursue its political ends will cease one way or another, either at the ballot box in November or through an inevitable breakdown of the civil society.
Tonight, for the first time, an undocumented immigrant will speak at a national political convention. Benita Veliz was brought to Texas from Mexico by her parents when she was 8 years old. She was threatened with deportation in 2009 after rolling through a stop sign and getting stopped by police.
An activist for the DREAM Act, which would grant permanent residency to some immigrants who graduate from U.S. high schools, Veliz was spared deportation last fall. President Obama, by executive order, subsequently stopped the deportation of some illegal immigrants who were brought to the country as children and allow them to apply for work permits. That policy went into effect in August.
As Frederic Bastiat wrote in his seminal work The Law:
"...unfortunately, law by no means confines itself to its proper functions. And when it has exceeded its proper functions, it has not done so merely in some inconsequential and debatable matters. The law has gone further than this; it has acted in direct opposition to its own purpose. The law has been used to destroy its own objective: It has been applied to annihilating the justice that it was supposed to maintain; to limiting and destroying rights which its real purpose was to respect. The law has placed the collective force at the disposal of the unscrupulous who wish, without risk, to exploit the person, liberty, and property of others. It has converted plunder into a right, in order to protect plunder. And it has converted lawful defense into a crime, in order to punish lawful defense.
...No society can exist unless the laws are respected to a certain degree. The safest way to make laws respected is to make them respectable. When law and morality contradict each other, the citizen has the cruel alternative of either losing his moral sense or losing his respect for the law. These two evils are of equal consequence, and it would be difficult for a person to choose between them." --Frédéric Bastiat, The Law, 1850
The Democrat Party's wanton usurpation of the law to pursue its political ends will cease one way or another, either at the ballot box in November or through an inevitable breakdown of the civil society.
Exclusive Transcript of Funniest Joke at Tonight's DNC
Biff Spackle intercepted the complete transcript for tonight's DNC speeches using his l337 h4x0r skillz. He says the best joke is the following:
A man takes the day off work and decides to go out golfing.
He is on the second hole when he notices a frog sitting next to the green.
He thinks nothing of it and is about to shoot when he hears,
Ribbit 9 Iron.'
The man looks around and doesn't see anyone.
Again, he hears, 'Ribbit 9 Iron.'
He looks at the frog and decides to prove the frog wrong.
He puts the club away, and grabs a 9 iron.
Boom! He hits it 10 inches from the cup. He is shocked.
He says to the frog, 'Wow that's amazing..
You must be a lucky frog, eh?
The frog replies, 'Ribbit Lucky frog.'
The man decides to take the frog with him to the next hole.
'What do you think frog?' The man asks.
'Ribbit 3 wood.'
The guy takes out a 3 wood and, Boom! Hole in one...
The man is befuddled and doesn't know what to say.
By the end of the day,
the man's golfed the best game of golf in his life.
He asks the frog, 'OK where to next?'
The frog replies, 'Ribbit Las Vegas ...'
They go to Las Vegas and the guy says, 'OK frog, now What?'
The frog says, 'Ribbit Roulette.'
Upon approaching the roulette table, the man asks,
'What do you think I should Bet?'
The frog replies, 'Ribbit $3000, black 6.'
Now, this is a million-to-one shot to win, but
after the golf game the man figures what the heck.
Boom!
Tons of cash comes sliding back across the table.
The man takes his winnings and buys the best room in the Hotel.
He sits the frog down and Says,
'Frog, I don't know how to repay you. You've won me all this money and I am forever grateful.'
The frog replies, 'Ribbit Kiss Me.'
He figures why not, since after all the frog did for Him,
He deserves it...
With a kiss, the frog turns into a gorgeous 15-year-old girl.
"And that, your honor, is how the girl ended up in my room.
So help me God.
Or my name is not William Jefferson Clinton."
The Democrats' Platform Face-Plant: They Meant to Do That
Dan from New York:
The Democrat Convention appears to be melting down right before our eyes. Yesterday, it was DNC Chairman-woman-person Dee Wasserman Snider getting caught in yet another blatant lie.
Then Little Dick Durbin threw a temper tantrum when asked in simple English why God and Jerusalem had been ripped from prior platforms.
I'm predicting, here and now, that Bill Clinton will be accompanied onstage by an empty chair representing the Gingrich-Kasich budget surplus for which Democrats always try to take credit.
It was like pulling teeth, but G-d and Jerusalem are back in the Democratic platform. They put it to a voice vote that some said the nays actually won.
[Ed.: Actually, Buzzfeed described it as "chaos"].
FoxNews.com, September 05, 2012
Democrats restore references to God, Jerusalem in platform
The Democratic Party has restored references in its official platform to "God" and to Jerusalem as the recognized capital of Israel.
The move comes after some had complained that the platform approved Tuesday omitted those references, which were included in the 2008 platform.
Many in the audience booed after the convention chairman, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, ruled that the amendments had been approved despite the fact that a large group of delegates objected.
He called for a vote three times before ruling.

Democrat National Convention Downgraded to a Conven.
Like America's credit rating, the Democrat National Convention appears to have suffered multiple downgrades.
• Obama DNC Speech Downgraded From 75,000 to 15,000 Seat Arena:
• Michelle Obama gets 400,000 fewer viewers than Ann Romney:
In all fairness, many Republicans tuned into the DNC for sheer entertainment value alone, kind of like the car wreck you can't look away from.
• Obama DNC Speech Downgraded From 75,000 to 15,000 Seat Arena:
The DNC just moved their final night from the 75,000 seatBank of AmericaPanther Stadium to the 15,000 seat basketball arena...
...A FOX News analyst just said it was because they could not fill the stadium. “They were scrambling to fill a large majority of the stadium.”
• Michelle Obama gets 400,000 fewer viewers than Ann Romney:
[Michelle Obama] gave a strong performance, but, unfortunately for the Democrats, not many people saw it. Overall, the speech attracted around 11 million viewers on the three broadcast networks. That's about 400,000 fewer viewers than watched Ann Romney's speech. But, the really bad news for Obama is the massive drop in viewers from 2008.
NBC won the coverage, as it did for the RNC last week. But, its viewership was down 24% from '08. For its RNC coverage on the first night, viewership was actually 8% higher than '08. CBS and ABC have even starker declines, dropping 45% and 38% respectively, compared to '08. Their coverage of the RNC was down also, but a more modest 25% and 38% from '08.
In all fairness, many Republicans tuned into the DNC for sheer entertainment value alone, kind of like the car wreck you can't look away from.

QOTD: "New income data from the Census Bureau reveal what a great job Barack Obama has done for the middle class as President. During his entire tenure in the oval office, median household income has declined by 7.3%.
In January, 2009, the month he entered office, median household income was $54,983. By June, 2012, it had spiraled down to $50,964. That’s a loss of $4,019 per family, the equivalent of losing a little less than one month’s income a year, every year. And on our current course that is only going to get worse not better." --Peter Ferrara

Ohio Senate candidate Josh Mandel, a man in the mold of Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan [Amalaur]
Correspondent Amalaur reports from southwestern Ohio's Hamilton County -- possibly the most important single county in the U.S. for the presidential race -- where Senate candidate Josh Mandel spoke at a fundraiser.
Folks, Josh Mandel is the real deal. He's another Marco Rubio or Paul Ryan. If you've got a couple of bucks to spare, consider helping him defeat the radical Leftist Sherrod Brown. Brown needs a pink slip in the worst way imaginable. Maybe he'll gain a new appreciation for the private sector in his next gig, preferably servicing drive-up customers at JiffyLube.
Brian Thomas, morning host of WKRC 550-AM, introduced Ohio's treasurer and U.S. Senate candidate with the following existential question:
I struggle with this every day. Are the people on the other side of the aisle nefarious or stupid? After many years of consideration, I've finally arrived at the answer: they're nefarious and stupid.
With that statement as ice-breaker, Thomas quickly gave way to Mandel.
Josh Mandel spoke with an impressive, eloquent and deeply passionate voice. Mandel sounds like Paul Ryan's younger brother. All of the facts, statistics and salient details of state and national policy positions were at the tip of his tongue.
Curiously, the man speaks sans teleprompter and notecards.
Mandel said that when he entered the Treasurer's office, the agency was an "ethics nightmare". Since the takeover, Ohio's credit rating has been ratcheted up (not down, got that, Democrats?) and his department has voluntarily cut its budget two years in a row.
Contrast that with the philosophy of today's Democrats who treat businesses -- small and large -- as enemies of government, not partners. Who believe that people don't build businesses on their own, and therefore don't deserve the rewards they achieve.
Mandel highlighted the ideological differences between conservatives and the modern Democrat Party: "It's not two shades of gray... it's two completely different philosophies."
This is why, Mandel insists, that Obama and his opponent -- the Marxist kook Sherrod Brown (my words, not Mandel's, for the most liberal Senator in Washington since Obama surrendered his seat) -- are trying to make the campaign out of small things, tiny things.
Do you care if Mitt Romney released two years or 10 years of tax returns? Do you care if Mitt Romney used to have a horse? How does that affect your life?
80% of Sherrod Brown's (and the vast majority of Barack Obama's) ads are negative. Mandel asserts that 80% of his ads are positive, focusing on what should be done to repair Washington.
Mandel is 34 years old, served two tours in Iraq with the U.S. Marines, received a Bachelor's from Ohio State and a law degree from Case Western.
Many of his family members are entrepreneurs and involved with the medical industry and therefore understand how destructive Obama's policies are. Consider, he said, a businessman who grows his company from 1 person, to 2, to 20, and then to 200.
According to Obama, Pelosi and Brown, you are to be vilified and castigated.
Importantly, Mandel observes, "You cant grow employment when you vilify success."
And Sherrod Brown cast the deciding vote for, well, Mandel doesn't call it Obamacare or the ludicrous "Affordable Care Act". He calls it as he sees it: a federal takeover of healthcare industry.
Why would we want the government running health care? Just look at the Post Office, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Amtrak? Amtrak is a perfect example: why are citizens of Ohio having wealth confiscated to fund train rides for investment bankers riding between Boston and New York City?
Changes are needed in the health care system, first and foremost related to medical liability and tort reform. Mandel's brother is a pediatrician, his sister-in-law is a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic, and he has four other close relatives who are physicians. Yesterday, he said, at his family's Labor Day picnic, all of the docs in the family discussed how goverment dictated a smothering system of defensive medicine.
Health care can be reformed with free market principles: allow companies to cross state lines, stop suppressing physician-owned hospitals and facilities. Encourage more choice and quality goes up while costs go down. It's something easy to understand for anyone who's run a business, which excludes the entire Obama administration (that last bit was my description, not Mandel's).
When it comes to energy, Mandel believes that our natural resources are assets, not liabilities as Democrats would have you believe. Our natural resources are blessings -- force multipliers that strengthen our national security posture and simultaneously boost the economy.
When it comes to fiscal responsibility, Mandel asked the rhetorical question: could you family or company go three months without talking about a budget or finances? It has now been three years since Democrats last passed a budget.
One of the reasons we have $16 trillion in debt -- with Social Security and Medicare spiraling out of control -- is that we have no roadmap. Democrats and the old guard GOP are both to blame. That's why the Balanced Budget Amendment, supported by Senators DeMint, Rubio, Johnson, Lee and Paul, is so important.
Mandel closed by making a commitment to the audience: there will be a day in DC when someone powerful puts a hand on my shoulder and says, "You better vote for this bill" if you want that committee assignment, or that endorsement, or whatever.
He promised to look that lobbyist, politician or journalist in the eye and tell them, "Sorry. I don't serve you. I serve the people of Ohio... and when I tell them that, I'll mean it."
The mask slips at the DNC: government is all that matters
The exact quote of the opening video at the Democrat National Convention?
"The Government Is The Only Thing We All Belong To"
In all of America's political history, you could probably not find a single opening statement at a convention more at odds with America's founding.
Democrats do not believe in the Declaration of Independence, a universal proclamation of individual sovereignty for all times.
Nor do they believe in the Constitution, the most elegant system ever created in order to constrain a government from growing too large and encroaching upon the rights of the individual.
History teaches us that the decline of a society and the demise of a government comes with the institutionalization of corruption and a wanton disregard for the written law. Such is our situation today, wherein the states have become puppets of an all-powerful federal government that confiscates more and more private property while exerting increasing control over every aspect of our lives.

Light bulbs, car bumpers, student loans, mattresses, refrigerators, gasoline, personal computers, toilet tanks -- every aspect of our day-to-day lives now suffers from some extra-constitutional intrusion by the federal government. In fact, little you do, say or touch each day could be construed as out of government's control.

And now, it has grown so enormous it threatens to capsize the fiscal stability of our society with trillions in deficits and unfunded entitlement programs, with no plan by Democrats to repair any of this hemorrhaging mess.
If we are to protect our society from decline and despotism, whose counsel should we then cherish? Should we honor thousands of years of human experience and the wisdom of history's greatest philosophers -- Polybius, Cicero, Aristotle, Montesquieu, Locke, Jefferson, Adams and Madison among them? Men who understood how governments have failed throughout all of human history and sought to construct a system to counter it?
Or should we disregard their guidance and instead follow the Fabians? Are these philosophers and founders to be replaced by the likes of Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Richard Trumka?
The greatest bulwark against tyranny in America has always been the Constitution, which instantiates our exquisitely designed system of private property, God-given individual liberties and free enterprise.
This is our generation's fork in the road and the stakes of our decision could not be higher. If we are to protect our society from the inevitable decline and despotism that has infected so many societies since the beginning of time, in whom should we trust? If we are to shield our children from the tyranny against which our founders fought and so many Americans shed blood, in whom should we put our faith?
In this single video, the Democrats have revealed their true face: and it is the face of tyranny, decline and despotism. It the face of failure, writ large through all of human history.
Which path will you choose in November?

Are you an attorney enjoying the riches of the Obama economy? Have I got an opportunity for you
My brother serves as both a lawyer and an attorney (to quote from Gilligan's Island) and he recommends Lawyers for Romney.
In all seriousness, its mission is an important one: to protect the integrity of the ballot box against, uhm, some of the more nefarious elements of the Democrat Party. You know, the felons, the illegal aliens, and the walking dead that somehow manage to vote Democrat in every election.
If you're an attorney and looking for a way to help protect this great country, click on over.
And tell 'em Doug sent you.

Congratulations, Democrats! On the eve of your convention, you've hit the progressive trifecta!
1. The national debt just surpassed $16 trillion, a level some experts believe is past the point of no return.
2. The number of Americans on food-stamps just hit another record high.
3. Last month, three times more Americans entered poverty than found jobs.
Let me repeat: three times as many Americans entered poverty than found jobs last month.
By every conceivable measure, things are getting worse under this president, not better. And why anyone would vote Democrat under these circumstances is beyond me.

Exhibit A: why Colin Powell must be excommunicated from the GOP
I know that Powell likes to appear on the Sunday talk shows from time to time, marketing himself as a Republican or a demi-conservative. He's neither, as evidenced by his incoherent and bizarre endorsement of Barack Obama in 2008.
This picture -- found on Twitter during the London Olympics -- demonstrates just how outrageous a personality Colin Powell has become.
Socializing with the loathsome Louis Farrakhan?

QOTD: "Aides say [Valerie Jarrett] never uses her private time with the president to relitigate decisions. Even so, the White House is organized around the principle that the president’s time is an administration’s most valuable commodity, not to be spent on low-priority matters or those not fully vetted. Yet several officials say that is what happened with one of Ms. Jarrett’s pet projects, Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympics.
Based on her assurances that his personal appeal to the Olympic committee could clinch the deal, the president flew to Copenhagen. During the flight back, CNN reported that Chicago had not survived the first round of voting.
“There was total silence,” one official recalled. “It was a long trip home.”
...she can also be imperious — at one event ordering a drink from a four-star general she mistook for a waiter — and attached to the trappings of power in a way some in the White House consider unseemly for a member of the staff.
A case in point is her full-time Secret Service detail. The White House refuses to disclose the number of agents or their cost, citing security concerns. But the appearance so worried some aides that two were dispatched to urge her to give the detail up.
She listened politely, one said, but the agents stayed." --Jo Becker (hat tip: JTT)
