TRUMP ON TRADE: More Sanders Than Reagan

By Mark R. Levin

The Trump media surrogates have a quandary. They're not sure whether to compare their man Donald Trump to Ronald Reagan, distinguish him from Reagan, or dismiss Reagan. It depends on the day and the subject. So they spin, and spin, and spin.

One area in which Trump can be nailed down is his overall view of trade. As I explained at Conservative Review, when it comes to Trump's own financial dealings, he is an unrepentant globalist, from which he has made a fortune. But these days, as he runs for president, the billionaire is a radical protectionist who has repeatedly declared his intention to impose massive tariffs aimed at the economies of other countries, such as Japan and Mexico, and a forty-five percent tariff on products from China. Such broad tariffs would most certainly result in retaliation by the targeted countries. This is a sure job-killer that would also drive up costs of everyday products to low- and middle-class Americans. The net result: economic misery, not just for those hard-working, tax-paying Americans who work in industries that rely on international commerce and trade, but mostly everyone.

OBAMA LACKEY: Yeah, We Lied to Sell the Iran Agreement to Congress

By The Tower

President Barack Obama’s deputy national adviser for strategic communications admitted that the administration’s fundamental selling point for the nuclear deal with Iran was false, according to a profile written by David Samuels and published Sunday in The New York Times magazine.

Ben Rhodes, described as having a “mind meld” with Obama, spoke about the pair’s contempt for “the Blob,” or the existing foreign policy establishment.

QOTD: "Donald Trump says taxes on the wealthy could increase if he's elected president, and that he supports an increase in the minimum wage. Both positions are departures from where Trump stood in the GOP presidential primary.

On taxes, he said he'd be willing to bargain away those cuts in negotiations with Congress.

..."We're going to submit the optimum," he said of his tax proposal. "That's what I'd like to get and we'll fight for it. But from a practical standpoint, it's going to get renegotiated. And in my opinion, the taxes for the rich will go up somewhat."

He said the points in his tax plan he's most intent on keeping are tax cuts for the middle class and businesses -- particularly those that have refused to bring profits earned overseas back into the United States. He'd like his plan to incentivize them to return the profit to the U.S." --CNN

President Death

By Bill Whittle

Well, President Obama has just returned from an overseas visit, trying to convince Britain and Germany to sign his trade deal and generally butting into European politics in a way many had not expected when President Peace Prize descended from heaven to give the world the new, improved, “Smart Diplomacy.”

The latest international disaster occurred in Great Britain, when the President gave a speech urging the UK to remain in the European Union. Despite warnings from many quarters that such intrusion in the idea of the Brexit – the British Exit – would be less than appreciated, President Stupid went and did it anyway, prompting this reporter to ask the following:

REPORT: Apple Music Now Finding and Removing Your Personal MP3s

By Karl Denninger

Companies come into your private property and destroy what you own.

Seriously, that really happens today, and there's nothing you'll do about it.  You signed away your right to sue, and what's worse you still buy products and services from firm that do this sort of thing.

Apple Music is a new "subscription" music service.  But it has a twist -- when you sign up it will root around your hard drive (and, presumably, any network-attached drives) and any music it "thinks" it has in the "cloud" that it deems to be the "same" was what you own it will remove from your computer entirely.

MARK LEVIN: If International Trade is So Bad, Why Has Mr. Trump Spent His Career Engaging In It?

By Mark R. Levin

Attorney, author, and radio host Mark R. Levin
One of the major planks in Donald Trump’s campaign platform, if not the top priority, has been a stalwart insistence that voluntary commerce and trade with other countries weakens America’s economy and costs American jobs.  Moreover, he insists that he knows best how to manage it all in the best interests of America.

Indeed, Trump has not only proposed slapping a 45 percent tariff on all goods made in China, and massive tariffs on other countries like Japan and Mexico, but he repeatedly declares that he will personally impose punitive taxes on Ford Motor Company if it follows through with plans to build a manufacturing plant in Mexico.  He has also threatened punitive penalties against Apple Inc. if it continues making iPhones in China.  It would seem, like Barack Obama, Trump has his own autocratic pen and phone.

Some cheer at these proposals, believing that Trump will, as he puts it, “Make America Great Again” (a campaign slogan lifted directly from the Reagan campaign over thirty years ago).  Of course, these populist/nationalist/protectionist proclamations and policies are nothing new.  The Progressive Republicans a century ago, including Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft and Herbert Hoover, all embraced them.  Even earlier, they were central to the short-lived People's Party, which was eventually swallowed by the Democrat Party’s progressive movement.  However, the times of greatest economic growth and progress in America, resulting in the creation of the vast American middle class, grew not from government control and management of the economy by politicians and bureaucrats, but market capitalism.  Perhaps I will delve further into this another day, but back to Donald Trump.

BUMMER: Hillary to Face FBI Interrogators Within Weeks

By Tyler Durden

As we reported yesterday, just when Hillary thought the email scandal was behind her, and she could shift her focus to the newly minted GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, an order by Judge Emmet Sullivan of the U.S. District Court decided to lay out ground rules for interviewing multiple State Department officials, and ordered at least six current and former State Department employees to answer questions, all in an effort to finish the depositions in the weeks before the party nominating conventions.

Despicable Weasel Harry Reid (Which Is the Term He Prefers, I Hear) Finally Breaks the Hypocrisy-Meter

By ARsquared

In advance of Harry Reid’s press call on the Supreme Court this afternoon, AR2 thought it was important to again point out his past hypocrisy and his tendency to play politics with this issue.

Remember, in 2005, Reid said on the Senate floor that nowhere in the Constitution “does it say the Senate has a duty to give presidential nominees ‘an up or down vote.’”

OH, MY: More Hillary Emails That Were Hidden From State Department Probe Uncovered

By Judicial Watch

Judicial Watch today released new State Department emails (one batch of 103 pages, the second of 138 pages) that again appear to contradict statements by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that, “as far as she knew,” all of her government emails were turned over to the State Department and that she did not use her clintonemail.com system until March 18, 2009.

Judicial Watch recently released Clinton State Department emails dating from February 2009 that also call into question her statements about her emails.

And Trump, like no one else, pushes back against the Left’s efforts to suppress free speech, which usually go under the too-generous rubric of political correctness.

QOTD: "The most important criticism to be made of the welfare state is that it protects people from the consequences of their bad choices and therefore fosters and encourages those very choices, which generally follow the line of least resistance or favor instant gratification over longer-term desiderata. The welfare state undermines the taking of individual responsibility, especially where the economic difference between taking it and not taking it tends to be rather small, at least in the short-term.

Moreover, charity given as of right, for that is what the welfare state does, favors the undeserving more than the deserving, in so far as the undeserving have a capacity and even talent for generating more neediness than the deserving. (They also tend to be more vocal in their demands.)

The welfare state in fact dissolves the very notion of desert, because there is no requirement that a beneficiary prove he deserves what he is legally entitled to. And where what is given is given as of right, not only will a recipient feel no gratitude for it, but it must be given without compassion—that is, without regard to any individual’s actual situation. In the welfare state, the notion of a specially deserving case is prohibited, for it implies a distinction between the deserving and the undeserving. In my career, I was many times startled by the unfeelingness of welfare bureaucrats in the face of the most appalling, and non-self-inflicted, suffering." --Theodore Dalrymple

...An astonishing 66% of female voters have an unfavorable opinion of Trump. That's two thirds. Now, if Trump wins 75% of the male vote, he may still be able to win, but that's not going to happen. The electorate is simply too divided for him to do so." --Michael van der Galien

OUR FEDERAL HOUSING VOUCHER PROGRAM: The Poverty Creator

By Kathryn Watson

Federal officials spend more tax dollars on Section 8 housing vouchers than they do on cash welfare, and the program often perpetuates poverty rather than alleviating it, according to an urban housing expert.

“Its incentives are completely skewed,” Howard Husock, vice president for policy research and director of the Social Entrepreneurship Initiative at the Manhattan Institute, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“You’ve ‘hit the lottery’ and you’re set for life,” said Husock, referring to those who receive housing assistance for decades, a lifetime or even generations, while others wait for years on a waiting list. “Not only do you hit the lottery and you can sit back and have a housing unit for life, but remember, your deal is you pay 30 percent of your income in rent, but what it means is for every additional dollar you earn, you pay an additional 30 cents in rent,” he said.

The Wall Street Journal Falls for Pathetic Pallywood Propaganda

By Yaacov Ben Moshe

This is another classic example of Islamic “fauxtography” (Ed.: also known as Pallywood). The picture is so obviously staged that I feel embarrassed for the photo editor who selected it. To imagine that a toddler could be pulled out of the wreckage alive is fanciful enough but, okay, miracles do happen.

But look again. How could the grimy “rescue worker” possibly have dug the baby out of the rubble. The kid doesn’t have a spot on his clean white tee shirt and socks. And don’t tell me that the dust on the rescue worker is light colored and wouldn’t show, I’ve raised six kids and I know that a white tee shirt shows everything! That kid’s mother must have known he would be starring in the latest promo shots for the Jihad and put him in a brand new outfit. Anyway, the child’s pants are dark blue and nothing shows there either.

CONGRESS? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING CONGRESS! Rogue Obama EPA Stashes Billions in Slush Fund Accounts

By Ethan Barton

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials have accumulated at least $6.3 billion in more than 1,300 obscure spending accounts akin to slush funds that are essentially beyond congressional, media and public scrutiny.

The accounts – which were created through EPA’s Superfund program – are not technically secret because the agency officially acknowledges their existence. But getting concrete details about deposits and expenditures is extremely difficult.

The EPA deposited more than $6.3 billion into an estimated 1,308 special accounts between 1990 and 2015, according to the agency’s website, and has spent more than half of the total. The agency doesn’t publicly report individual special account balances or expenses.

RAMIREZ CARTOON: If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Join ‘Em

The brilliant Michael Ramirez of Investors Business Daily illustrates the stark contrast between Constitutionalism and Populism.

And, with a sigh, this post's author intoned for the 828,000th time: "And for you hardcore Trump-supporting readers, I would vote for Trump in the general over a Democrat because I would vote for a used Kleenex over a Democrat. But, to be perfectly honest, I have no idea what Mr. Trump's real positions are and neither do you."
