I have to say, the alleged report that they gave UBL a chance to surrender reminds me of a true story from NYC's stake out squad (early 70's). After shooting several hold-up men one of the two Cops was asked if he gave the robbers a chance to surrender before they were shot. The response was, 'yea, I sure did, but I don't think they heard me over the gun fire.'
However, the real thanks and development of this opportunity goes to the US Military and Intel - as well as the Bush Administration.
The irony is, this was not 'smart power' at work. This was a Unilateral Military Action on foreign soil within a Sovereign Nation. This is exactly what 'smart power' - the Obama Doctrine rejected, rebuked, vilified. All of the Democratic Partisan hubris and ugly demonizing turned out to be wrong. The one positive of the Obama experience is when these pathetic Democrats chose to continue aspects of the sound Bush Era policies in fighting the GWOT.
The offering of Hillary and Obama is a fiasco in terms of foreign policy, with Iran, Yemen, Libya, Bahrain, Somalia, North Korea, Egypt, Pakistan, Palestine, etc., burning out of control - rushing away from 'smart power'.
Democratic Partisans actually boasted their "talking" wonders - their brilliance would end the GWOT. Some of these Democrats actually said that terrorism would go away as soon as GW Bush was removed from Office. It only grew far worse, with domestic and international attacks on the rise.
It is a bitter sweet victory. Obama and his Party's selfish, ugly, incompetent Partisan embrace makes it hard to enjoy. If they had their way, as they once cried, their policies would have actually ruined any chance of getting Osama Bin Laden. It was the exact policies the Democratic Partisans demonized that provide this positive.
And now we will have to watch these unethical Democrats try to sell this to keep their power. In reality, we should simply think about reelecting GW Bush for the job again. If we went back to his policies, even on the Domestic side, with his vision to reform Social Security, Fannie-Freddie, etc., even going back to the Bush Era levels of spending, we would not be in this mess.
It is all a big joke, a huge contradiction. Osama Bin Laden gets his due, thankfully the US Military handled the job. Obama gets a little lucky - and should be thanking GW Bush.

It is really tough, mixed feelings...
ReplyDeleteSo pleased to see Osama Bin Laden eliminated.
