Epic fail by analytics company Sitemeter: forgets to renew domain name

Tens of thousands of websites rely upon Sitemeter to provide tracking capabilities: to find out who's been linking to their sites, to count the number of visitors, and so forth. Well, it would appear that the folks who run the service forgot the first rule of Internets:

Nice home page!

  1. I think they finally just gave up on the service. It would have been nice to get some advance warning so we could grab a few stats before it died.

  2. I'm sort of with R.O. I was getting nothing, before they "forgot" to renew. I emailed them, tried several minor tricks, nothing. I just started with them, again, recently since I had time and fixed my machine so things worked. It kept showing zero visitors and wouldn't respond to a single input. (Contrary to my other two sources and empirical evidence beyond question.)

Any decent stat services out there? I'm using google analytics for now, but... yeah... Looking for a bit more. A bit better. It seems about as good as Sitemeter, back when I used it previously, but that wasn't all that great. If too I think some tech is making these services a bit misleading. Visitors, return visitors over weeks, stopping in for 0 seconds? I am guessing they pull down the site and view it at their leisure, perhaps offline, for security/privacy? Dunno. Anyway...

  4. I checked sitemeter's domain data this morning on domain tools and it shows the domain is still owned by Site Meter Inc and does't expire until 03-APR-2014.
