QOTD: "Will the GOP be willing to turn around? Not unless we have conservative leadership, and the only way to change the current leadership is if some State Committeeman challenges Reince Priebus as RNC chief, and gets in, yet I do not think we have a majority of conservatives in the RNC to pull that off, and every conservative must publicly get an answer from every Congressional hopeful to the question, “Will you support John Boehner as Speaker?” If they answer yes, they have chosen poorly.

As to the complaint that we will be ruled for a very long time with Democrats in charge without any hope of reprieve if a third party forms, we just lost the biggest, most winnable contest this nation has ever seen, and with the current leadership silencing conservatives, we will be ruled for a very long time with Democrats in charge." --Jen Kuznicki

The story claiming "14,000 abandoned windmills" is so full of flaws I don't know where to start. There's no citation for that figure. It could have come out of thin air for all the documentation provided. A Google search turns up hundreds of stories, all citing each other, with no independent confirmation that I can find. I suspect those numbers have been vastly inflated by including the ancient American Multiblade windmills you see rusting on farms these days.

Worse, the Altamont wind farm in California is the one cited most often in detailing problems with wind power. That project is over thirty years old, using technology that has long been outdated and certainly should be allowed to go fallow. That those towers stand crumbling is a testament to another California project that no one thought out to the end.

Compare your computer to one that might have been produced thirty years ago. The difference is stark, just as it is with wind technology. The problem of noise has been dealt with effectively by redesigning blades. The threat to birds is substantially reduced by slowing the speed at which they rotate.

This knee-jerk condemnation of the most promising energy producer we have is infuriating. Unlike solar panels, windmills don't require poisonous chemicals in their production. They don't leave radioactive waste like nuclear plants.

It's as if conservatives are instantly opposed to wind power simply because liberals support it. Well, I have news for you. Windmills are providing a huge number of jobs here in Iowa and our local power company is now producing thirty percent of its power through wind turbines.

This is not some hare-brained scheme to fleece the taxpayer. Wind power works and the cost is coming down daily.

Linking to undocumented, emotionally charged posts like this does nothing to advance the discussion, Doug.
