THE HILLARY PAPERS: Why Now?

Guest post by Lee Cary

Why are Diane Blair’s private papers archived at the University of Arkansas Special Collections Library just now becoming news?

The Washington Free Beacon article dated February 9, 2014, entitled “The Hillary Papers, Archive of 'closest friend' paints portrait of ruthless First Lady,” was featured in the Drudge Report this week.

While the title is sensationalized by attaching the word “ruthless” to Hillary, the timing of the piece is more puzzling than sizzling.

Consider the key paragraph that summarizes the content of papers that have been available to the public since 2010:

“The records paint a complex portrait of Hillary Clinton, revealing her to be a loyal friend, devoted mother, and a cutthroat strategist who relished revenge against her adversaries and complained in private that nobody in the White House was ‘tough and mean enough.’”

So she’s loyal, devoted, cutthroat, and critical of wimps.  Does that sound “ruthless – for a Presidential candidate?”

Then there’s her alleged reaction to Bill’s philandering.  She’s portrayed as understanding and realistic by “putting his actions into context.” Blair writes, “She thinks she was not smart enough, not sensitive enough, not free enough of her own concerns and struggles to realize the price he was paying.”

In short, Hillary was a victim, but was/is willing to claim some degree of culpability.

“‘It was a lapse, but she says to his [Bill’s] credit he tried to break it off, tried to pull away, tried to manage someone who was clearly a ‘narcissistic loony toon’; but it was beyond control,’ wrote Blair.”

So it was really all Monica Lewinsky’s fault. Both Hillary and Bill were victims.

On the other hand, the physical intensity of the episode was/is discounted by Hillary, according to Blair.

“HRC insists, no matter what people say, it was gross inappropriate behavior but it was consensual (was not a power relationship) and was not sex within any real meaning (standup, liedown, oral, etc.) of the term.”

Suppose the timing of all this has anything to do with Senator Rand Paul having recently called Bill Clinton a “sexual predator?”

The “Hillary Papers” cited have been available, apparently, since 2010. Why highlight them now?

Well, maybe the Clinton camp knows that, if she runs for the Presidency in 2016, her role in Bill’s Tales of Adventures will re-emerge. By framing her explanation early, using the papers of a deceased close friend, Hillary gets ahead of the issue. When it comes up, she can say, “What’s it matter now?”

All this is reminiscent of the elusive Rose Law Firm Billing Records that, on January 5, 1996, suddenly appeared before a congressional committee investigating the Whitewater episode.

According to the New York Times,

“The newly discovered documents are copies of billing records from the Rose firm, where Mrs. Clinton helped represent Madison Guaranty, a savings and loan run by James B. McDougal, the Clintons' business partner in the Whitewater land venture. The originals are still missing. Investigators have been seeking the documents to determine the role Mrs. Clinton played in the firm's representation of the savings and loan.”

“The Clintons' personal lawyer, David E. Kendall, said tonight that the documents show that the work Mrs. Clinton performed was limited both in time and scope, as she has repeatedly said.”

So, in both cases, papers suddenly surface that exonerate Hillary – once in a shady land deal in Arkansas, now in the Tales of Bill’s Adventures that led to his impeachment.

All Hillary needs to do now is return the furniture she took from the white House, the "W" keys from those computers, and the FBI files she pulled on her enemies. I suppose it's too late to pull back the bullet from Vince Foster, restore the life she stole from the McDougals, or settle issues with the girls Bill raped. Why did she put porn in the stacks of copy paper on the way out the door (?), and refuse to acknowledge Bill's mulatto child?
