Which Economy Car First Manufactured 25 Years Ago Could Be Sold Today as a New Model?

Care to take a guess which economy car could still be sold as a new model today? I'm talking looks alone, not CAFE standards, airbags, and all of the other regulatory crap.

To whet your appetite, consider some similar cars manufactured in 1989 that wouldn't make the cut:

1989 Ford Escort:

1989 Buick Electra Park Avenue:

1989 Dodge Colt:

1989 Mazda 323:

1989 Chevy Celebrity: (is there a more misnamed car than this one)?

1989 Honda Civic:

1989 Pontiac 6000:

Give up?

I'm thinking it's the:

1989 Nissan Sentra 240SX:

I happen to think that's a damn good-looking car.

  1. I would say -without looking- VW Golf/Rabbit, as timeless a design as I've ever seen

  3. Crap. Pacers weren't still being made 25 years ago.

    I can't imagine why.
