What is a ‘free press’?

What is ‘journalism’?

Perhaps we can all agree that some of the goals of journalism are:

• A commitment to report the verifiable truth to the citizenry

• To serve as an independent monitor of those in power

• To report comprehensively and accurately issues of interest to the free and civil society

In his latest bestseller Unfreedom of the Press -- already number four one on Amazon’s list even before its release -- Mark Levin traces the lineage of American media from the early Patriot Press to today’s disconcerting situation.

I call it disconcerting because, as Levin outlines in stunning fashion, it is clear that half of the country simply does not trust the ideological echo chamber that today makes up 95% of current media outlets.

Surveys indicate that few Republicans trust the media, while the majority of Democrats do.

In other words, today's media has abandoned the interests of half of the entire country. So how did we get here? And how can this situation be addressed? These critical questions are the subject of Levin's Unfreedom of the Press.

Straight out of the CCCP (i.e., the invaluable People's Cube) comes this handy set of figures illustrating the official caste system of the Democrat Party.

The first chart depicts the historical hierarchy of ancient Egypt.

The second portrays an eerily similar caste system enforced by the post-Wilson Democrat Party, reinforced by FDR, LBJ and BHO.

Remember when the Supreme Court actually put a judicial chokehold on fascism in America?

There was a time when the Supreme Court of the United States defended and upheld the Constitutional protections for economic liberty in America. This year marks the 80^th anniversary of one of the Supreme Court’s finest hours, when it overturned Franklin Roosevelt’s agenda for economic fascism in the U.S.

The trend toward bigger and ever-more-intrusive government, unfortunately, was not stopped, but the case nonetheless was a significant event that at that time prevented the institutionalizing of a Mussolini-type fascist economic system in America.

On May 27, 1935, in a unanimous decision the nine members of the Supreme Court said there were constitutional limits beyond which the federal government could not go in claiming the right to regulate the economic affairs of the citizenry. It was a glorious day in American judicial history, and is worth remembering.

FDR’s Broken Promises for Smaller Government

When Franklin Roosevelt ran for president in the autumn of 1932 he did so on a Democratic Party platform that many a classical liberal, free market advocate might have happily supported and even voted for.
