Federal prosecutors are currently trying to put away Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) on corruption charges, but in the world of the mainstream media, the trial isn’t even going on.
If found guilty, Menendez’s replacement could increase GOP control in the upper chamber of the legislature.
However, despite the high stakes, broadcast news networks have barely even mentioned the senator’s name this year, let alone the trial:
Per @theMRC, last Bob Menendez mentions:
— Phil Kerpen (@kerpen) September 1, 2017
ABC: Jan 15, 2017
CBS: May 2, 2017
NBC: Jan 12, 2017
None of those even about his criminal case.
The Media Research Center’s numbers show that it’s been at least 4 months since one of the three major broadcast networks discussed the Democratic senator.
The media’s obsession with Republican President Trump has dominated coverage this year, but coverage has been absent when focused on a corrupt high-ranking Democrat.
Menendez is in legal jeopardy over his relationship with ophthalmologist Salomon Melgen, and prosecutors are accusing the senator of engaging in a bribery scheme with Melgen. The trial begins Wednesday.
