VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: Dresden in Los Angeles and our Confederacy of Dunces

By Victor Davis Hanson

LA is burning. And the derelict people responsible are worried that they are found out as charlatans and empty suits.

The leftwing voters who enabled them are getting angry over the inferno that their chosen politicos green-lighted—as if they are shocked, shocked by the consequences of their voting.

The dam buster Nero Newsom made his accustomed fiddling appearance and then split—when the media began pointing out that he prohibits new reservoirs, sends precious water out to sea, blows up dams, prevents precautionary gleaning of forests and chaparrals, and then usually blames “Climate change” or “Trump” when called to account.

Poor Karen Bass was DEI-ing in Uganda after being previously warned that lack of rain, record winds, and kindling-like hillsides put her city in existential danger: Out of sight, out of mind.

Why Can't The U.S. Navy Stop The Houthis?

Remembering:

• Navy Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Christopher J. Chambers
• Navy Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Nathan Gage Ingram

May God Hoist them on Silver Wings and Keep them in the Bosom of His Heart…" --@Eagledriver

Link: Naval Special Warfare Operators Lost Near Yemeni Coast Identified – Search Status Changed to Deceased. RIP.

In what world does a U.S. president give Iran -- the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism (according to his own state department) -- billions of dollars? And let Hamas mint a few new billionaires? And let the U.N. build more miles of tunnels under Gaza than the Paris and London Metros combined?

I ask you, my beloved readers and bots: why would a president do this?

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: How To Start A War

By Victor Davis Hanson.

Wars often arise from uncertainty. When strong powers appear weak, truly weaker ones take risks they otherwise would not.

Sloppy braggadocio and serial promises of restraint alternatively trigger wars, too. Empty tough talk can needlessly egg on aggressors. But mouthing utopian bromides convinces bullies that their targets are too sophisticated to counter aggression.

Sometimes announcing “a new peace process” without any ability to bring either novel concessions or pressures only raises false hopes—and furor.

Every new American president is usually tested to determine whether the United States can still protect friends like Japan, Europe, South Korea, Israel, and Taiwan. And will the new commander-in-chief deter America’s enemies Iran and North Korea—and keep China and Russia from absorbing their neighbors?

Joe Biden, and those around him, seem determined to upset the peace they inherited.

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: Coronavirus Backlash

By Victor Davis Hanson

As the coronavirus outbreak begins to reach its zenith, it remains unclear whether the measures taken to stem its tide will prove sufficient, insufficient, or an overreaction. What is certain, however, is that a number of individuals and entities have behaved shamefully and demonstrated no capacity for leadership or usefulness in this moment.

Nancy Pelosi: Gone are the mythologies that Nancy Pelosi was a pragmatic liberal voice of reason among the otherwise polarizing American Left, honed after years of paying her dues to the Democratic Party, as the mother of five dutifully ascended the party’s cursus honorum.

It does not matter whether her political and ethical decline was a result of her deep pathological hatred of Donald Trump. Who cares that her paranoia arose over the so-called “Squad” that might align with socialist Bernie Sanders to mesmerize Democrats to march over the cliff into McGovern-like oblivion? All concede that very few octogenarians have the stamina and clarity to put in the 16-hour work-days and transcontinental travel required by a Speaker of the House.

Instead, all that matters is that for a nation in extremis she is now puerile, even unhinged—and increasingly dangerous.

CHEAT SHEET: Helpful #WuhanVirus Timeline for Democrats and the Media, But I Repeat Myself

Presented for your review. Feel free to copy and circulate to those who need it.

It strikes me as extremely odd that the open borders kooks, who did nothing as the administration was being criticized for "xenophobia", are now lecturing us about the Wuhan Virus. [ Hat tip: BadBlue Uncensored News].

Pelosi Democrats: No Money to Fight #WuhanVirus Unless We Get Voting Rights for Illegal Aliens

As workers around the country lose their jobs, please remember that Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Invisible Joe Biden want illegal aliens to vote. Because that will fix the Wuhan Virus.

AS TRUMP MOBILIZED AGAINST CORONAVIRUS: Democrats Focused on Impeachment

By Julie Kelly

On January 15, House Democrats delivered two articles of impeachment to the United States Senate. Democrats knew the Republican-controlled Senate would not have enough votes to convict President Trump. But that didn’t deter House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) from wasting government time, resources, and attention for months in a doomed effort to remove Donald Trump from the White House.

Six days later, on January 21, the first known case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19, or the Wuhan virus) was reported in the United States.

While the Left and NeverTrump Right predictably gather steam to condemn Trump for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, congressional Democrats have escaped any accountability for ignoring the early stages of the outbreak. And, with no sense of irony, the very journalists and pundits who cheered impeachment are the same folks now blasting the president for “not doing enough” to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The Democrats’ Bloodless Assassination Attempt Has Failed, At Least for Now

By Conrad Black

This most absurd and irresponsible of all assaults on the presidency in America’s rich history of low political chicanery is now down to a desperate gamble by the Democrats.

Democrats cannot possibly sustain the argument that they should have witnesses, whom they failed to call among the 17 they had in the House of Representatives (which they control) but the Republican Senate majority cannot call witnesses on behalf of the president.

Peggy Noonan, the most believable of the media Trump-bashers because she is such a generally fair-minded person, proposed on January 25 in the Wall Street Journal that the Democrats call John Bolton, who they know would be a hostile witness against the president, and Mick Mulvaney, who could continue to explain his unforgivable butchery of an answer to a reasonable press question about political influence on foreign aid. In return, Noonan offered generously, the Republicans could call Joe Biden—who would then complete his flameout as a candidate or make a brilliant defense and clinch the nomination—and Rudy Giuliani, so the Democrats could try the Lev Parnas case for their own delectation. (Parnas is an indicted former associate of Giuliani negotiating his plea bargain.)

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: Progressive Self-Immolation

By Victor Davis Hanson

Since at least 2016, CNN has mostly ceased being a news agency, but that hasn’t stopped it from being an active participant in #TheResistance. The network is so caught up in the fervor of this movement that many of its guests and regular hosts have been fired, reprimanded, or apologized for threats to the president or general obscene references (e.g., Reza Aslan, the late Anthony Bourdain, Kathy Griffin).

Many of its marquee reporters have resigned, were fired, or reassigned for fake-news bias (e.g., Thomas Frank, Eric Lichtblau, and Lex Haris), or came under fire for false reporting (Jim Sciutto, Marshall Cohen, and Carl Bernstein) or have had to offer retractions and/or apologies (Gloria Borger, Eric Lichtblau, Jake Tapper, and Brian Rokus.)

Its anchors have apologized for obscenity (Anderson Cooper) or simply making up false statements (Chris Cuomo), while analysts have been caught in a number of contradictions about their own role in on-going scandals (James Clapper).

The common denominator has been the new journalistic ethos that aborting the Trump presidency justifies any means necessary to achieve such noble ends.

POOPACABRA: Here’s How Bad San Francisco’s Sh** Problem Got In 2019

By Peter Hasson

San Francisco residents reported more than 30,000 cases of poop to authorities in 2019, city records show.

As of Monday afternoon, the city’s Department of Public Works responded to 30,136 cases of “human or animal waste” this year, easily topping the 28,353 cases the agency handled in 2018 with a week still to go, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation analysis of publicly available city records. The liberal city is averaging more than 84 poop reports every day, the DCNF’s analysis found.

Pictures showed a man defecating in a San Francisco grocery story earlier in December. Pictures from the scene showed a man doing the deed in a Safeway aisle and then opening up a store package of toilet paper to wipe himself.

California’s Homelessness Crisis and the Impeachment of President Trump

How the Golden State's Devastating Homeless Problem Relates Directly to Impeachment

In a secret investigation, Los Angeles Fox 11 TV sent reporters undercover to Skid Row, accompanying Los Angeles County mental health team members on their mission to help the riskiest individuals.

Their job is overwhelming and depressing, given 60,000 homeless on L.A.'s streets versus their scant numbers.

One of L.A.'s homeless team, accompanied by a camera crew, asked a pointed question: "People say, 'Why don't you do something?', but with what resources?"

Well, at least your state made the wise investment in high-speed rail!

LENINISM: The Highest Stage of Progressivism

By Ken Masugi

Everyone knows the universities are on the political Left. Political science is part of that problem, though it isn’t nearly as corrupt as some other disciplines. While many professors hold their partisan biases close, those inclinations all too often appear in curricula and scholarship and inevitably reach the classroom.

A contrary example both of the theory and practice of politics, because its focus is on advancing the principles of the Declaration of Independence, are the panels and scholarship sponsored by the Claremont Institute—recently honored at the White House with the National Humanities Medal.

So Claremont has its work cut out for it. How far will the Left take political science? We all know as well, when the political Left wants legitimacy, it does not turn to the people but to academics, as it has in the impeachment inquiry. Factions within the political science profession, bored by the dominant behaviorist and quantitative approaches to the discipline, have agitated for more connection between scholarship and its policy implications.

AMERICA’S CHOICE: Abolish Elections or Disband the National Security Council (NSC)

By Daniel Greenfield

Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the latest star of the Democrat effort to undo the 2016 election, is still at work on the National Security Council. While Trump supporters on the NSC like Rich Higgins and Ezra Cohen-Watnick were forced out, Vindman won't be. NSC staffers who criticized Obama holdovers or sought to expose their misbehavior are gone, but Vindman is still there while undermining Trump.

And that’s the SNAFU of things on the NSC.

The National Security Council has been ground zero in the campaign against President Trump from the beginning. General Flynn’s appointment as National Security Advisor had touched the third rail because the NSC had been used to coordinate anti-Trump operations in the Susan Rice era.

I Just Have One Simple Question for @AdamSchiff

The man who supposedly instigated the "impeachment" inquiry is -- amazingly -- no longer a concern.

After weeks of promises the "whistleblower" would testify, the Media-Democrat Party and their ringleaders -- Pelosi and Schiff -- now claim that said testimony is unncessary.

Which spurred the following graphic:

DiGENOVA: An "Impeachment" Constructed of Lies

By Joseph DiGenova

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) has been trying to overturn the 2016 election from day one, and he isn’t about to let something as trivial as the truth get in his way.

Schiff has pursued that aim relentlessly for the past three years, jumping from one conspiracy theory to another—from Russia to Ukraine, from tax returns to absurd “dossiers,” from Robert Mueller to Michael Avenatti, and back again. All the while, he has revealed his naked partisan motivations and portrayed himself as some kind of defender of truth.

In reality, everything about Schiff’s still-fruitless crusade against our duly-elected president is built on lies. The dishonesty runs back to the very beginning of the Trump presidency. Just one month after Inauguration Day, for instance, Schiff was gleefully reading juicy tidbits from the blatantly fraudulent Steele dossier into the Congressional Record.

Handy "Impeachment" Cheat Sheet

It's all about fairness, don'tcha know?

Oh, yeah, there's that other little matter. We can't quite name the crime Trump has committed either.
