The summer season has ripped off the thin scab that covered an American wound, revealing a festering disagreement about the nature and origins of the United States.

The San Francisco Board of Education recently voted to paint over, and thus destroy, a 1,600-square-foot mural of George Washington’s life in San Francisco’s George Washington High School.

Victor Arnautoff, a communist Russian-American artist and Stanford University art professor, had painted “Life of Washington” in 1936, commissioned by the New Deal’s Works Progress Administration. A community task force appointed by the school district had recommended that the board address student and parent objections to the 83-year-old mural, which some viewed as racist for its depiction of black slaves and Native Americans.

As a refresher, I recently met a Congressional staffer and we were discussing which TV series about Washington were most realistic.

He stated, without hesitation, HBO's Veep.

During the course of the series, Jonah Ryan -- tall, geeky, socially awkward, and (weirdly) also possessing delusions of grandeur -- makes the transition from low-level White House staffer to... Congressman.

The staffer I was schmoozing with said that Ryan's unlikely ascendancy, through a bizarre series of events, was entirely plausible. He said most Congressmen he knew were complete dunces and made Ryan look like Einstein.

The series is very funny and one of the best parts are the nicknames other members of Veep's staff call Ryan.

We observe cultural shifts. This is one of the things that I spend a lot of time doing, and I’ve noticed some things. I didn’t watch the Emmy Awards last night, but hardly did anybody else, either. We may have a record low viewership for the Emmys last night. I don’t care what you say, if you did watch it, if you’ve heard about it, sure, it was a three-hour -- or however long it went on -- bash-, humiliate-, embarrass-Trump fest.

But that’s not the way to look at it. The way to look at it is Hollywood, in its most prestigious awards show for the television industry, devoted all three hours to Donald Trump.

LAST MAN STANDING: Hollywood Leftists move from burning books to burning TV scripts

The cancellation by ABC of Tim Allen’s hit comedy “Last Man Standing” comes on the heels of CBS’ Stephen Colbert’s obscenity laced rant against Donald Trump and underscores how far the media thought police have gone in their war on conservatives, conservative thought, and even conservative comedy.

Allen’s show, in which he play the manager of a sporting goods chain, features Allen’s biting and genuinely fumnny witticisms poking fun at all things liberal. It’s humor is balanced, with the show featuring a Canadian liberal son-in-law who gets his points across. But it is a rarity among sitcoms, in that any conservative viewpoints are represented at all. In its sixth season, Last Man Standing is doing quite well in the ratings. As the entertainment website Deadline noted:

It was 77 years ago this week that Orson Welles struck terror into the hearts of Americans with his live radio broadcast of the HG Wells classic War of the Worlds. The broadcast began at 8:00 pm on Mischief Night 1938. As I was searching for anything of interest to watch the other night on the 600 cable stations available 24/7, I stumbled across a PBS program about Welles’ famous broadcast. As I watched the program, I was struck by how this episode during the last Fourth Turning and how people react to events is so similar to how people are reacting during the current Fourth Turning. History may not repeat exactly, but it certainly rhymes.

While this new report covers all aspects of this year’s “Up Your Alley” fetish street fair, I pay special attention to a bizarre fad sweeping the gay underground: “puppy play,” or pretending to be a dog during sadomasochistic group sex romps.

Up Your Alley was teeming with men not only dressed as dogs (or a least a fetishistic approximation of caninehood), but also behaving as dogs.

The important message sent by the depraved crimes depicted in Game of Thrones and Outlander

The last couple of weeks on cable television's most popular shows have featured a smorgasbord of stunning violence.

Heiress to Winterfell Lady Sansa Stark is brutally raped on her wedding night by the psycopathic Ramsay Bolton.

Preteen Princess Shireen is lashed to a stake and burned alive -- by her father, Stannis Baratheon.

Highlander Jamie Fraser is viciously tortured and then raped by Captain "Black" Jack Randall.

The outcry from each fictionalized incident was as predictable as it was pathetic.

Not because the depictions weren't shocking and cruel: they were.

Because true outrage should be reserved for the very real, very depraved actions that are occurring not in some mythical setting but on our planet, now.

In today's Middle East, crimes against humanity are occurring on a daily basis with nary a murmur from Hollywood, the Democrat establishment, the feminists or the progressive movement.

In the ongoing Muslim civil war, children are crucified on a regular basis.

Girls as young as eight years old are routinely raped and sold as sex slaves in open markets.

Other children are buried alive or beheaded.

An estimated 30 million human beings around the world are currently living in slavery.

In its ongoing civil war, Syria employs chemical weapons on a routine basis. The death toll from the Syrian conflict alone is approaching a quarter of a million. Another four million Syrians have fled the warzone and are living as refugees.

The left may be capable of marshalling a Twitter campaign in a show of short-lived, faux outrage (remember last year's #BringBackOurGirls?), but when it comes to real action they are AWOL.

So the faux outrage over Hollywood's treatment of Sansa Stark and company rings hollow.

Truth is indeed stranger than fiction.

And for the left, fiction is more real than truth.

Media Dimwits Celebrate "Courage" of Caitlyn Jenner While Ignoring True Hero Chris Kyle

One gets the impression that if Amir Hekmati, the former United States Marine still imprisoned in Iran were gay, transgendered or a deserter, President Obama, who tweeted to the former Olympic champion and now Vanity Fair cover girl Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner: “It takes courage to tell your story.”

BizPac Review noted how quickly and for what reason President Obama sprung into action after Caitlin’s cover:

“It takes courage to share your story,” the president tweeted in response to Jenner, who broke the president’s record for fastest new Twitter account to reach 1 million followers.

Never on to miss an opportunity to push the progressive agenda, Obama tweeted three minutes later, asking other lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders people to tell their tale (because they’re not in the news enough these days).

“Your story matters in the fight for LGBT rights—share it here:” Obama tweeted with a link to a page on barackobama.com.

As Investor’s Business Daily noted, courage is defined by people like Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, who languished in a Mexican jail after serving his country for taking a wrong turn after being confused by traffic signs in a construction zone, ignored by his Commander-in-Chief who takes time out to congratulate gay basketball players for their “courage”:

Jill Tahmooressi, Andrew's mother, has never been invited to stand by the president on the White House lawn. Nor has she ever received a phone call from President Obama, as she testified Wednesday before a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee. Presidential calls of support are reserved for basketball players like Jason Collins, whom Obama called to say "he was impressed by his courage," according to a White House spokesperson, for announcing that he was gay.

AMERICAN SNIPER: Gary Sinise Destroys Lying Crackpot Howard Dean

Perhaps we should give Howard Dean a break. He is a serial liar and goes off on unhinged rants based on "facts" with no more connection to reality than Disneyland. His behavior can often only be described as lunatic. So perhaps we should just pity the obviously deranged man, say a prayer for him to be restored to sanity, or at least the proper balance of meds.

Anyway, feeling it necessary to weigh in on the great American film, "American Sniper," Dean said, “There’s a lot of anger in this country, and the people who go see this movie are people who are very angry.” He added, “I bet you if you looked at the cross-section of the tea party and people who see this movie there’s a lot of intersection...”

Now before we react, let's remember that "American Sniper" is a movie about the heroic acts and hardships faced by Chris Kyle, our nation's top-rated sniper. It accurately portrays his anguish about duty to country vs duty to his family. I can guarantee you Howard Dean never suffered such conflicts. Dean, like most Democrats, is only anguished when not getting his way - and collapses in episodes of screaming and temper tantrums when this happens. He's a spoiled, selfish yuppie without the charm.
