I recently received via an unsolicited email the following article authored by an alleged historian named H.C. Richardson. It begins:

Lots of folks are finally paying attention to the rise of authoritarianism here in the U.S. They are right to be concerned... Scholars have seen worrisome signs all along. Trump has dismissed nonpartisan career officials and replaced them with loyalists. He has fired the independent inspectors general. He denies Congress’s right and duty to investigate members of the Executive Branch. He has used the Department of Homeland Security and other law enforcement officers of the Executive Branch as a private army.

I responded to the sender as follows:

Thanks for sharing this article, which really made me chuckle. If I had been drinking milk when I read it, it would have come through my nose from laughing so hard.

Just to highlight a few particularly amusing references.

NOW, MORE THAN EVER: "Our Police", by Jack Levin

Given the situation that many -- if not most -- children are being educated in the home, it's imperative that regular Americans use this rare opportunity.

I have a variety of recommendations for kids of all ages, but especially important during these times of Democrat-funded anarchy and terrorism is a basic respect for the institutions of our civil society. Our police, our firefighters and our first responders have enormously difficult jobs to do, even in the best of times.

These are not the best of times. To fight the insane demands and instructions of the teacher's unions (not all members, mind you, but certainly the leadership of Communist front groups like the NEA and AFT), I would suggest reinforcing that sort of respect in our kids.

Our Police, first published in 2018, is intended for ages 4 to 8, preschool to 4th grade, and should be required reading for all kids in this age group. Bestselling author Jack E. Levin, father of multimedia pundit and superstar Mark Levin, both wrote and illustrated this invaluable contribution to the civics education of our youth.

It's inexpensive and compelling. Some kids will want to read it 30 or 40 times with you. If you don't have kids of that age, buy it for grandkids, nieces and nephews, or simply donate it to the local police station or library.

The most important evidence regarding pediatric transmission of COVID-19 comes from Iceland, and their study published in The New England Journal of Medicine.

Be suspicious of any expert ignoring this paper and discussing anecdotes instead.

The data for the study come from Iceland’s systematic screening of its population.

It was based on a population-representative sample (identified without respect to symptomatic status), and a sample based on presence of symptoms.

The study isolated SARS-CoV-2 samples from every positive case, sequenced genome of virus, and tracked the mutation patterns.

This analysis, along with contact tracing, allowed the authors to identify definitively who passed the virus to whom.

Consider, if you will, McGraw-Hill's Our Democratic Heritage, a textbook designed for third-graders and published in 2010. If you'd assume that it was intended to teach kids about America's founding and its institutions of government, you'd assume wrong.

OUR UNIVERSITIES: A Force For Evil

Many of the nation’s colleges have become a force for evil and a focal point for the destruction of traditional American values. The threat to our future lies in the fact that today’s college students are tomorrow’s teachers, professors, judges, attorneys, legislators, and policymakers.

A recent Brookings Institution poll suggests that nearly half of college students believe hate speech is not protected by the First Amendment. Of course, it is.

Fifty-one percent of students think that it’s acceptable to shout down a speaker with whom they disagree. About 20 percent of students hold that it’s acceptable to use violence to prevent a speaker from speaking. Over 50 percent say colleges should prohibit speech and viewpoints that might offend certain people.

The school in Hampton, Georgia managed to make national news twice in one week. 

A sixth-grade teacher from the school was caught on tape ranting against Trump’s slogan of Make America Great Again. “Maybe he’s talking about it was great during segregation in the ‘60s. Is that what he’s talking about?”

“He must be talking about when it was great for Europeans," Johnetta Benton sneered. "Because when it comes to minorities, America has never been great for minorities."

2. She has never told the whole story as to why she listed herself as a Native American for nine years (perhaps because she used it to get ahead at law schools that were desperate for minority professor representation at the time.)
3. In 2012, she was forced to backtrack on multiple explanations for why she did it, and to this day still hasn’t provided a clear answer as to what exactly happened.
4. She has never provided any documentation proving she is a Native American (and most independent analysis also says there is no proof).

I speak on dozens of college campuses every year, so I have first-hand experience with the anti-First Amendment activities that have been taking place on some of our college campuses. I’ve encountered anti-free speech measures, administrative cowardice, even physical violence on campuses ranging from California State University at Los Angeles to University of Wisconsin at Madison which is driving the legislation that Ms. Demings was talking about, to Penn State University to UC Berkeley. And I am not alone.

In order to understand what’s been going on at some of our college campuses, it’s necessary to explore the ideology that provides the impetus for a lot of the protesters who violently obstruct events, pull fire alarms, assault professors and even other students — and the impetus for administrators who all too often humor these protesters. Free speech is under assault because of a three-step argument made by the advocates and justifiers of violence.

The People of the Bubbles

Imagine you are flying over an American suburb in Middle America, say in Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, or Pennsylvania.

You hover over a cul de sac, where kids ride tricycles and Moms share a glass of wine after work and chauffering their charges around to soccer practice.

In fact, you can see that most of the homes are inhabited by two-parent families. If you asked the parents' primary motivation for living in suburbia, most would tell you they've moved for the K-12 education the local school district affords.

These families have also moved for a certain quality of life, mobility and access to grocery stores and malls. Life for many is relatively easy. Certainly there are worries: how to pay for college 10 years hence or how to fund the roofing contractor who says he can fix the worsening leak in the family room.

For good or bad, these families are living in a bubble of our society's creation. Problems in this bubble are those of the First World.

Because progressives always get it wrong, I'll repeat. The market is the only arbiter for media. The marketplace of ideas dictates who wins and loses.

Based upon a simple comparison of ratings, MSNBC and CNN are considered very, very fake news when it lines up against Fox News. And which means National Public Radio is also faux news.
