State treasurer of MA absolutely shreds RomneyCare, which "has nearly bankrupted the state" and is surviving solely because of federal aid

The level of economic illiteracy required to believe that a one-sized-fits-all, individually-mandated, government-controlled health care system could somehow succeed is really quite stunning. Which says a lot about Mitt Romney's belief in free enterprise and the market system.

“If President Obama and the Democrats repeat the mistake of the health insurance reform here in Massachusetts on a national level, they will threaten to wipe out the American economy within four years,” Cahill said in a press conference in his office.

...[T]he state’s health insurance law…Cahill said, “has nearly bankrupted the state.”

Cahill said the law is being sustained only with the help of federal aid, which he suggested that the Obama administration is funneling to Massachusetts to help the president make the case for a similar plan in Congress... "...I would argue that we’re being propped up so that the federal government and the Obama administration can drive it through” Congress.

Commonwealth Connector, the independent state agency established to help residents find the health insurance, has “totally failed,” to create competition and connect people with affordable insurance, Cahill said, pointing out that 68 percent of the residents it serves receive subsidized care.

“We haven’t done anything about driving down costs,” Cahill said. “We haven’t helped small business. We haven’t changed the way we pay for health care and the way we deliver it.”…

Look, if Romney somehow wins the nomination, I'll support him without question against Barack Obama.

But we need to elect a conservative in 2012 who is 100% committed to the eradication of Obamacare. For if it isn't wiped from the books, I fear this country may not survive.

Romney things the only problem with ObamaCare is that it violates federalism principles. It does that, but it also violates the conservative view of the relationship between the citizens and their government. We go from being citizens with a government to a rancher with cattle that must be fed and kept healthy until they're ready for market.

RomneyCare is an issue, although I believe the intentions were what team Romney says they were, not what ObamaCare does to generate more taxes.

I like Romney, I'll vote Romney in the primaries. Others on the GOP stage may be more conservative, especially in matters of social issues, but they can't hold a torch to Romney's ability to look at the numbers and make some solid decisions.

HOI DOUG.

DESPITE MY BA AND MA I MIST BE A MORON.

BECAUSE I DON;T GET HOW RIMNEYCARE IS ONE SIZE FITS ALL.

PLEASE EXPLAIN.

AS I UNDERSTAND IT, THE MASS LAW REQUIRES THAT EVERYONE BUY A MINIMUM AMOUNT OF COVERAGE FROM PRIVATE INSURERS.

THAT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE ONE SIZE FITS ALL TO ME.

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY YOU CALL IT "ONE SIZE FITS ALL".

AND SINCE ONLY 8% WEREN'T BUYNG INSURANCE, HOW IS THAT NEGATIVELY EFFECT THE FOLKS WHO WERE ALREADY BUYING INSURANCE?

THANKS

SOME STATES MIGHT WANT TO MANDATE HEALTH *INSURANCE* RATHER THAN HAVE THESE UNINSURED FOLKS GET THE HEALTHCARE AND BE PICKED UP BY MEDICAID - IOW: TAXPAYERS.

BECAUSE - AS I AM SURE YOU KNOW - FEDERAL LAW REQUIRES ALL HOSPITALS THAT TAKE A PENNY OF MEDICARE OR MEDICAID MONEY MUST TREAT EVERYONE REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY.

SHOULDN'T PEOPLE WHO CAN PAY FOR THE CARE OR THE INSURANCE BE MADE TO PAY FOR THE CARE OR THE INSURANCE RATHER THAN HAVE TAXPEYERS - THIRD PARTIES - PAY FOR THEIR CARE?

Massachusetts gets federal aid to take care of completely predictable cost overruns of RomneyCare.

Where will the U.S. get money for the completely cost overruns of ObamaCare? The U.N.? No. Just put it on our kids credit cards.

We had the RINO lose to Obama. The RINO Romney will lose to Obama as well.

hi con man,

obama ouspent mccain by 8-1.

and there was a CRASH.

i think these two things had more to do with obama's win than mccain's rino-ness.

OBAMA WON BECAUSE CONSERVTIVES STAYED HOME. (I CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH A LINK TO VOTER TURNOUT ANALYSIS THAT PROVES THIS.)

IF YOU STAY HOME RATHER THAN VOTE MITT, (ASSUMING HE GETS THE NOMINATION - ASND HE MIGHT NOT GET IT) THEN YOU YES YOU WILL HAVE RE-ELECTED OBAMA.

THASNKS CONMAN.

WE POSTED THIS BEFORE ANY OTHER BLOGGER:

One of the MAJOR reasons Obama beat McCain was the black turnout; they need to repeat this to have any chance of holding the House and the Senate.

Here's the back-story:

NYTIMES:

In last year’s presidential election, younger blacks voted in greater proportions than whites for the first time and black women turned out at a higher rate than any other racial, ethnic and gender group, a census analysis released Monday confirmed.

As a result, in the election that produced the nation’s first black president, the historic gap between black and white voter participation rates over all virtually evaporated.

Total turnout in 2008 was about the same as it was in 2004, about 64 percent of voting age citizens.

But with Barack Obama on the ballot, the makeup of the 131 million who voted last year was markedly different.

While the number of non-Hispanic white voters remained roughly the same, 2 million more blacks, 2 million more Latinos and 600,000 more Asians turned out.

Compared with 2004, the voting rate for black, Asian and Hispanic voters increased by about four percentage points.

The rate for whites declined by one percentage point.

CONT'D

THE MARGIN OF VICTORY FOR OBAMA WAS THE BLACK VOTE.

REPEAT: THE MARGIN OF VICTORY FOR OBAMA WAS THE BLACK VOTE.

AND IT WASN'T AN ACCIDENT; POLITICO - 10/6/08, JUST A MONTH BEFORE THE ELECTION:

As Barack Obama trekked through the Philadelphia suburbs, Northern Virginia and Greensboro, N.C., in recent days, his campaign was ramping up a massive parallel effort in big cities like Detroit, Cleveland and Miami.

In the largely black precincts of those metropolises, radio broadcasts blast constant reminders to vote for Obama, field organizers swarm, and megastars including Jay-Z, Russell Simmons and LeBron James have led massive rallies, working to reach not just the substantial portion of the black community who regularly come out to vote but also the younger people and others who have never before cast a ballot.

Though the rallies are publicized, much of the advertising directed at black voters isn't. Get-out-the-vote ads on radio and television aren't released to the media, and the number of new voters Obama has registered is a closely held secret. He is, however, leaving no stone unturned when it comes to registering African-American voters. The campaign has, for example, a major initiative aimed at turning barbershops and beauty parlors into voter registration offices. This week, Kimora Lee Simmons' E! Network reality show, "Life in the Fab Lane," carried a campaign ad at the bottom of the screen reminding citizens to register to vote.

Monday morning, the deadline for registration in several key states, Obama appeared on two of the most widely heard African-American radio programs, where hosts implored listeners to register to vote and Obama directed them to his campaign's registration website.

"The African-American vote can be a game-changer in all sorts of states," Obama told host Steve Harvey. "In Florida, in Indiana, in North Carolina, in Ohio. I just want people to look at the numbers."

Little of this targeted outreach has produced images of Obama addressing black crowds or mingling with black officials, and most has gone unnoticed by the broader electorate.

"If you didn't notice it, then you probably weren't the target," said Obama spokesman Corey Ealons of the targeted advertising. He described the campaign's general voter registration drive — which has focused heavily on young voters, as well as African-Americans — as "a very extensive effort and that's been one of the highlights and major focuses of the campaign."

IN 2008, THE LEFT HAD A BLACK MAN ON THE TOP OF THE TICKET, AND TOOK ADVANTAGE OF IT. (THEY ALSO LIED, AND TOLD THE ELECTORATE THAT OBAMA - THE MOST LEFTIST CANDIDATE EVER NOMINATED - WAS A CENTRIST.)

IN 2010, THEY DON'T HAVE A BLACK ON TOP OF THE TICKET,

THAT'S ONE EFFIN' HUGE REASON THE GOP WILL SWEEP.

ANOTHER REASON IS THE FACT THAT INDEPENDENTS WHO VOTED FOR OBAMA BECAUSE THEY BELIEVED HIM WHEN HE SAID HE WAS A POST-RACIAL POST-PARTISAN MODERATE NOW KNOW THAT THEY WERE LIED TO, AND THEY'RE ANGRY AND GOING TO VOTE GOP.

ADD TO THAT GOP ENTHUSIASM AND WE HAVE THE MAKINGS OF THE GREATEST SWEEP IN USA HISTORY.

Democrat Showed Up, Republicans Stayed Home

“A downturn in the number and percentage of Republican voters going to the polls seemed to be the primary explanation for the lower than predicted turnout,” the report said. Compared to 2004, Republican turnout declined by 1.3 percentage points to 28.7 percent, while Democratic turnout increased by 2.6 points from 28.7 percent in 2004 to 31.3 percent in 2008.

IF CONSERVATIVES WHO HATE MITT STAY HOME, THEN OBAMA WILL BE RE-ELECTED.

IOW:

PEOPLE LIKE YOU, CONMAN, WILL REELECT OBAMA IF YOU STAY HOME RATHER THAN VOTE MITT (ASSUMING HE WINS THE NOMINATION).

THANKS!

WE EXPECT CANDIDATES TO SUPPORT WHOEVER WNS THE NOMINATION.

I EXPECT CONSERVATIVES TO DO THE SAME.

BECAUSE DEFEATING OBAMA IS JOB #1.

ABO!

@RP:

If Mitt gets the nomination, I will work harder than anyone to support him.

But he's not the nominee, nor do I think he is most deserving of the nomination.

We need a 100% rock-ribbed Republican, and failing that, we need the closest person possible.

Michelle Bachmann
Herman Cain
Rick Perry
Rick Santorum

With Cain and Perry my current frontrunners.

Because they had the guts to propose a dramatic change to the tax code.

Hell, if Romney came out in favor of the Fair Tax, he'd cinch the nomination in a heartbeat.

Reliapundit said...

HI DOUG.

I KNOW YOU ARE NOT AN IRRATIONBAL MITT HATER BUT JUST WANT A TRUE ONSERVATIVE NOMINEE.

I THINK THAT'S GREAT. THAT'S WHY WE HAVE PRIMARIES.

AND I HOPE WE DON'T PICK A NOMINEE TOO FAST. I WANT THEM ALL VETTED.

AND YOU HAVE STUCK TO THE ISSUES, MAINLY WITHOUT GOING OVER THE TOP.

(THOUGH I THINK CALLING ROMNEYCARE A ONE SIZE FITS ALL IS WRONG.)

I JUST WORRY THAT SOME ARE GOING TO FAR.

AND THAT THIS WILL SUPPRESS THE 2012 GOP VOTE.

AND REELECT OBAMA.

ORomney is Clorox dipped Obama. The only thing electing him will do is let socialists have "bipartisan" cover.

If ORomney's the nominee, I vote straight D, because obviously this country needs to get it "good and hard."

Reliapundit: LOSE THE ALL CAPS. It is obnoxious. I don't read any comments with all caps. I wouldn't have read your comment to me if you hadn't started in normal font.

Conservatives stayed home because the RINO McCain didn't inspire them. True. They will stay home again if the RINO Romney gets the nomination.

Everyone outside Mass. should know that State Treas. Tim Cahill ran as a "spoiler" candidate for governor in the last election, drawing votes from the GOP nominee and thus ensuring victory for the egregiously inept and fatuous lib "Cadillac Duval" Patrick.

Since then, everyone's wondered what Cahill's pay-off would be. I guess he hasn't got it yet; apparently he still has to serve Duval and his fellow Obamanoids by taking gratuitous shots at Mitt Romney. Better buy some heavy-duty kneepads, Tim --- they're going to make you degrade yourself for a long time! But console yourself; someday reeeal soon you'll get that coveted no-show sinecure on the Mass Turnpike board of directors!

NO conservatives will NOT stay home this time around if Romney is nominated, anyone who says that is a fool and anyone who does that is Obama's secret agent.

I cannot stand Romney, I want an in-your-face conservative constitutionalist, but to give the National Socialists 4 more years to rule over us and ruin us is unthinkable.

I stayed home from McCain in 2008, and he deserved it. Obama fooled everyone and conned his way in. I did not realize how destructive and evil he was until he began and escalated his reign of terror and put his hate for America into practice every day, against us.

now I'd do anything to get this Fascist/Marxist scum out of our govt and so will millions more like me.

we need to flush Obama like the turd he is, and all his gang of thugs too.

staying home only guarantees he solidifies his hateful grip on our dying nation and can finally kill it for good.

IDIOT CONSERVATIVES.
THANKLS SDN AND CONMAN FOR RE-ELECTING OBAMA.

The definitions of "asshole" and "ignorant asshole" default to the assclown typing in all caps...always. What are you, 11-years old? Are you too lazy to hit the shift key a couple of times in an effort at effective communication? It's illiterate, lazy assholes like you that got Obama elected in the first place. Learn some decorum and maybe people would take your screeds more seriously, because I agree with ConMan in that I'm not going to read your grammar-rife pabulum.
