"Politicians Prefer Unarmed Peasants" has been a bumper sticker since at least 1992. I researched this for my etymology website, and it appears to be quite a story. In 1990, Lithuania wanted independence from the USSR. Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev demanded that the Lithuanians disarm; there were several Soviet attacks on unarmed Lithuanians. One person's sig line in April 1990 was "Politicians prefer unarmed peasants. Ask the Lithuanians." It would be nice if more people knew this story behind the bumper sticker.

Not an original, but my favorite:
"TED KENNEDY'S CAR KILLED
MORE PEOPLE THAN MY GUN"
